And I'm gonna be real interested because we're about to talk about a movie I haven't seen yet.
But that's why I have other people in the studio in the co-host chair right now.
Is the newest member of the cast.
And a man.
Sometimes he walks solo.
Sometimes he doesn't.
You don't know. He's Alex. Welcome sir.
Mostly I just limp and waddle.
I understand it.
Also joining us is the official fact checker of this show.
And a man who in the year 2000 thought he could buy the Millennium Falcon.
And found out that he couldn't.
You may know him as fond don go but his mom and even don't for it.
I'm gonna calm down for it.
Hey, I had that Millennium Falcon when I was a kid that when it came in the box.
It's because you were rich and we weren't.
No, that's all I wanted for Christmas.
And I told my family chip in and get me all that.
I tried the same thing as 18 for luggage and all that.
I mean for bomber jack and he got me luggage instead for Christmas.
Back up. Back up. Back up.
The Mac map and a bus ticket.
Whatever we do one of these is to review something.
This is no exception.
Time to talk solo. A Star Wars story.
For when you start this whole thing.
Yes sir. We got thank Delaney everybody at Levinson for the invite.
Thank you guys so much.
We love our vendors. They give us the opportunity to check out films before they're released.
So we can talk to you about them.
So let's get into this thing.
Oh the mind.
Okay so again this is a minefield because we pride ourselves on this on this show of being spoiler free.
So you're gonna need to stick with us for just a bit.
Because I don't know and all I know is this is the it's a prequel of a prequel that falls between two movies.
And it's about a young Han Solo who is trying to find his way to become who he's supposed to be in the galaxy.
That's about as far as I want to go.
Oh boy.
Spoiler. It's about Han Solo.
Or in Lando.
Boy there's a low echo in this room in it.
So.
Gentlemen you saw this film.
I have not seen it as of this recording.
Let's talk.
I mean what are your thoughts?
You know it's it's Ron Howard is directing originally Florida Miller and they had to leave it and come back.
We're talking about two hours and 15 minutes.
So what I do include in my review that you can find at the clubhousepodcast.com.

And you don't need the WWE.
It will still be there.
So what I do include in this is I did break my own rule when writing the review.
Because I could not understand when I went to just make sure to fact check certain things on IMDB.
Other critics are not liking this.
They are wrong. This movie is great.
Okay.
So I can't say anything else without getting excited and probably spoiling.
Okay.
Why are they wrong?
Because of the reason that you took issue.
Oh no. I won't put it this way.
I did include that in the review.
But I feel like it came from a non-Star Wars fan perspective of somebody who says,
I know where this is going.
This is fluff we didn't need.
There's no interest for me because I already know where we end up.
And it's like the journey is the fun with something like this.
Yeah. And that's what I don't think people understand.
If yes, we know how it's going to end.
We know what's going to happen.
I just enjoy a movie.
Can I live?
As Pat McAfee would say, can I live?

I put on there that we know it's Star Wars.
And here's my question.
Wait. Hold on. Slow down. Star Wars.
Star Wars. Okay. So I'm not sure.
Yeah. So I said Star Wars.
Are you sure it's not just anthology?
Yeah. That's an arrested development reference Don.
That's an arrested development time for you.
You haven't seen it.
As I was saying, as I was saying, I'm listening.
I'm ready to talk to you in my review.
I put that intro paragraph that what made Star Wars so special
is that they were a few and so far between.
In the first three trilogy,
they were about three years apart.
I mean, the first three films, they're about three years apart.
Episodes four, five, and six.
As we're one, two, and three.
Wait, 16 years. So these things were special.
Now that Disney paid the four billion and all that,
they're trying to milk up for all it's worth.
And it's going to get to that point.
Will this Star Wars stuff get ice-aged
and where it's just quantity over quality?
Now, on the split.
Four, four billion.
Was it four billion they paid?
Okay. I thought it was four billion.
I heard that the total they paid for the.
That was a little bit higher than that.
A few billion. I think he's right on that one.
They paid a lot of money. They paid a lot of money.
Now, with this film, I understand.
And I like, I did like the story.
It was kind of interesting.
Here's the minor, minor spoiler.
He meets Chubake that shows how he meets Lando.
So they show that in the trailer.
So you're good. You're good.
I'm trying to avoid the minefield here.
No, I believe me. I appreciate it very much.
That's the only spoilers I'm going to give.
But it basically tells this story from this kind of like the
teen years or late teens to through this events that happen.
It shows him how he meets these people.
And you see what they talk about in the regular films about
how he won the Falcon and all that.
Okay.
Which I enjoyed.
Well, there was a lot of elaborating on things that we've
heard in other movies where it's like this happened
and they go into it.
Yeah, which I enjoyed.
So it was kind of cool to see that perspective.
Here's my problem.
They added one or two events where it's going to say,
okay, it made when these one or two events happen.
I heard one guy who was sitting in the row front does go.
It's like, really?
They are going to melt this.
I heard there's going to be a three film deal.
No, no, no, no, no.
Okay. He has signed to play the role in three films.
That doesn't mean we're getting three Han Solo films.
If they they left it open where I think there's going to be
at least another one or two.
I think this film is great.
And I liked it.
The CGI is incredible.
The story is good.
The Times about right.
It kept me interested.
It was kind of great to see the story of this person we love.
I think this is where they need to end it.
And not leave these little teasers because we're going to make parts two, three, and four.
Because the way the film ended,
it's going to leave it open where they're going to have to do another one or two.
In a way, that's how I see it.
Alex has a stand up.
I don't think it's going to be more Han movies.
I think he's going to appear as Han Solo.
But I think it's going to be other anthologies that connect with this one.
Okay.
Without giving away too much, there were things for, you know what?
I don't know if it's too much spoilers.
I'm going to mute the mic.
Go for it.
Okay, we're back.
So for the sake of continuity.
And since there were questions about an occurrence,
I would say that the cartoons are required watching the Clone Wars or Rebels.
Yes.
Okay. There are no.
There's some to both that would explain certain situations that, you know,
because I know there were people in the audience who shall not be named
that watched something and went, that can't be right.
Okay. Fair enough.
So at the same time, it's very interesting.
But if you don't know stuff from the cartoons,
it completely throws you out of the story because left turn.
Okay.
So Disney has always said,
Well, Disney has always said that they don't,
they don't beholden themselves to the EU,
but they're a lot, they're giving themselves permission to borrow elements from it.
So obviously this is where we're going with that, which is fine.
But do you feel like with that statement that
this is not necessarily a film for a mass audience?
I do worry that there's a lot of the things that would draw
myself in. Unfortunately, Chad's not here. He was drawn in as well.
We had a very good discussion after the movie.
About select things that are kind of spoilery, but only if you know Canon.
Okay.
There's a lot that lends to that.
That may go past people that aren't obsessed.
There enough?
But I do feel like...
But do you feel that I would take that out, take them out of it?
In a vacuum, I think people would still enjoy this.
Because it is a fun movie.

Is there are times where you kind of don't realize that Alden Ehrenreich,
I believe I'm pronouncing that correct?
I think you're in the ballpark of this.
You don't see him as Han Solo.
You see him as kind of almost
a kin to Captain Mao from Firefly.
But you don't see him as Han Solo because Harrison Ford is so tied to that in our memories.
But one thing I'll give him on the acting is that
he tried to do all those characteristics.
The mannerisms.
The mannerisms.
Everything that trust me or that.
Oh, it's going to work out.
So it kind of had that same...
He's trying to play...
He has to do something.
He did very good in that.
Same with the Lando character too.
Very Donald Glover.
Great acting in this.
I'm the first to say it.
The acting was great.
The CGI was incredible.
I love how they had a lot of nature shots
and weren't just pure 100% CGI
where they had the CGI added to a lot of real-world shots.
You practical effects versus the CGI.
I mean, you also have Woody Harrelson in this.
The voices of John Favreau and Linda Hunt.
You have the great Paul Bettany in this as well.
Oh, Paul Bettany crushed it.
The Glover and Paul Bettany.
I don't think I've seen better work from them to it all.
Oh, wow.
But Paul Bettany was really good.
But the interesting thing is,
his character got accented by CGI
that really took his ability to use it to the next level.
Okay.
I mean, Harrelson,
he is really stepping up too on this thing.
I really enjoyed...
I didn't think of him on the guy from Cheers
or Larry Flynn or whatever.
He had his own character in this.
And with that Woody Harrelson style,
which was really good.
Kind of like that zombie land in a way too.
Kind of thing.
So acting was good.
Again, the plot I really didn't enjoy.
Now, I could see some people saying,
you know, this reminds me of episode three,
how they rushed the last half hour.
You know, this was basically the last half hour of episode three.
Put into a film where it's just
let's just do something to make some money
and call Star Wars and make a few bucks.
Some people think that.
Me personally, I still enjoyed the story.
It really made me think of the childhood
when I was watching the Star Wars.
And this is how this guy came in about.
So I think this is...
But I just don't want to see two or three more films
or I don't want to see the saga of Jar Jar Banks.
Okay.
If they do a Jar Jar movie, I'm out.
Okay. I mean,
I'm being honest.
That's fun.
There's someone in Disney who's probably thinking,
you know?
I kind of get where you're coming from.
I kind of get where you're coming from with the,
it felt a little quicker at the end.
But they had already established so much
by that point that for me,
I felt like it hit the notes
that it needed to hit at the end
and then gave you some you didn't expect
and learned to love.
And can I just say for the record,
Amelia Clark, how you doing?
And one thing I will say about...
She might have been the worst one in this movie.
There's a lot too much,
in too much in this film I saw where it's
on the edge of the scene in a,
escaping it just in nick of time
or they're able to get this done in a nick of time
or it's like the car that's about to go out.
It's an nature of the beast.
I mean, but they didn't wait too much in this film.
I thought this film had a way to love to have this discussion
off air because we can't get into it
without spoiling it.
Yeah, I know.
I felt like that happened once
and the way they did it made the scene.
I didn't enjoy one of the minor things.
Again, I enjoyed that the plot was good.
The action was good.
But it was really interesting to see
Aaron Reich and Glover
be the younger versions of the characters they portray.
So you kind of see them being
say less cool under pressure
or being more immature
or not knowing how to deal
with certain things.
And it's very
character age appropriate
for the audience appropriate.
Anything else you guys want to talk about?
We'll get to the final analysis.
Now with that spoiling everything.
I want to talk about everything
but it is going to spoil it.
You didn't do that.
But I do highly recommend to read the reviews.
I very much enjoyed going into this one.
The way we do the final analysis on the show
we're not going to give you thumbs up thumbs down.
We're not going to give you letters and numbers.
Question number one is would they see this film again?
If the answers know them we're done here.
If the answer is yes, then the follow-up question is
how far are they willing to go to do so?
Here's the best of the best of the worst of the best.
Full price at a theater.
Twilight showing.
Matinee showing.
Early morning showing.
Second run of the dollar theater.
Actually leaving your house to get it from red box.
Streaming it on Netflix.
Waiting for it on cable.
Don, let's start with you.
I'm just going to say a Twilight showing in the theaters.
So you're right there on the edge but not one to go full bore?
I just saw the end.
We'll do another film and add two or three things from the first one
to keep it going and keep it going.
That's my worry.
But it's still good.
Most Star Wars fans who is a kid who loves Han will like this film.
Alex, would you see it again?
Absolutely.
The extent I'd be willing to go to.
I'm currently looking to see if there's already a pre-order on Amazon.
There is not unfortunately.
I guarantee you I will be paying full price because I believe
I will wind up taking you and the sensational Shawnee to see it in D-Box.
Maybe not this coming weekend but maybe next.
