My name is Rob, I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse Podcast and stuff is going
to explode because it's time for another HOOOOOOH SHOOT.
Kind of dug a little deep on that one, you'll understand why here in a minute.
But I didn't see the movie we're fixing to talk about, so I need the other two people
in the studio to help me out to my left because this is the theater of the mind.
Is the lady of the house?
She had a couple of reasons she wanted to see this film, she is Jen Rowan, welcome friend.
Running out the day is the official fact checker of sooner or gator productions and a man
who is, he loses life a quarter mile at a time.
You may know him as Igboonu but his mom and name I'm Don Ford, I'm gonna call him Don Ford,
hey brother.
True story, in 8th grade, I ran track and when we did the long distance running because
I didn't actually the half mile, guess what, actually I put the quarter mile excess
faster but we always practice on half miles, we do 12 a day and they kill this.
You know what you run now?
You run me ragged, is what happens now.
Whenever we do one of these, it is to review something this is no different, by the way,
this is home show 475, wow, big milestone for us, big time.
We're about to hit almost a thousand total episodes of this show, I can't believe that.
But it's now time to talk about Fast and Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw.
Before we start the whole thing, yes or if we got to take Mary and their baby and Marock
for the invite, we love our vendors and in this one you could say you could smell what
the Marock is talking about.
Our vendors let us see movies early so we can talk to you guys about them so you can make
the best possible decisions for your entertainment dollars.
So, doing Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, you're not getting doubt and nabby, that's
coming in September.
So a biological weapon is on the loose.
It is on the loose inside the system of Hattie played by Vanessa Kirby.
It is wanted by the surgically and technologically altered Idris Elba, who plays Brixton.
I mean, again, you put Idris Elba anything, I'm interested.
That's Stranger Bell.
One of the greatest villains in history television.
If you've never seen the wire, you're a communist.
Now this is a spin-off of the Fast and Furious franchise because that's where both of these
characters come from.
Not exactly the best of friends, but a team that just might work.
You guys saw this movie, we were dividing and conquering that night, I was at a different
film that we're going to be reviewing much later down the road.
So let's talk about this movie because reading you guys's reviews currently located at

General, you are the lady that has to start with you.

I love action movies.
Who doesn't, though?
I have an affection for them.
They are one of my guilty pleasures.
But see, I don't think it's a guilty pleasure because a guilty pleasure would be like me
saying I can't get enough dust and it's creak.
That's a guilty pleasure.
Everybody loves action movies.
No, but I mean, I'll take a weekend and watch the full chain of all the Fast and Furious
Back to Back to Back to Back to Back to Back.
That makes you a red-blooded American and you and Clay Harrison, friend of the show,
are very like-minded.
Yes, but as a female, it's not a typical normal.
It's becoming more normal because action films are getting better, but it is still poll
walker.
Yeah.
Well, and it's not just the cast.
And Joe Roman Reigns' Analyze, as he is called in the credits, just calling Roman Reigns.
They did.
Okay, so I got asked the other day where I ranked this among the franchise and the original
Fast and Furious, the first one, will always hold a special place because it was a new
concept.
It was a new way of doing things.
I really liked what they did with it.
Visually, I will definitely agree with you.
It's one, this would be one A, if I have to group it.
If I have to group it with the family of them.
You don't have to be familiar with the franchise other than as you said, these are characters
from the franchise, but you're still given enough clues to pick up.
You could watch this independently of having seen any of the others.
So it's a true spin-off.
It is.
It's a true spin-off.
And I am hoping for more.
I was so pleased with how they did this.
The chemistry between the Olympian, or the former Olympian known as Jason and the
Rock is amazing.
I don't know how they got through some of those takes.
And the looks they're giving each other, I'm like, I'm glad I'm not on the opposite side
of that look.
And then with the character of Hadi, she just seamlessly came in and joined them.
And it was definitely suspension of disbelief, suspension of reality.
Well, this is a franchise that had the rock punching a torpedo.
Right.
So once you've reached that level, you kind of have to expect it.
And they did.
And the way they filmed it, it looked realistic.
You couldn't totally tell where CGI was involved, where movie magic was involved.
It looked like you were actually watching something happening right in front of you.
And you're going, no, wait, oh my gosh, that's so cool.
And yeah, I wanted to sit and watch it again right after it ended.
Here's my Jason Satham, ready?
Do you know what I mean?
That is dead on.
That's a little Australian.
Yeah.
But that's it.
I'm not dead on.
I'm not dead on.
I'm not dead on.
So, Don, this thing's two hours and 15 minutes long and to give you guys, to give
the people at home a little bit of background to two hours and 15 minutes.
As we said, we were dividing and conquering that night.
The movie I saw was, it started a half an hour before y'alls.
Okay.
When I got done with my movie, I looked at my watch and I'm like, they've got 45 minutes
still to go.
Talk about this movie being this long.
Okay.
Now, let me go into my spin off on this.
Well, that's what's going to tie to it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I've seen the whole series, including Tokyo Drift, if you wanted to fail the Tokyo Drift.
I mean, I saw it.
I own it.
I mean, it's, here's the thing about this film.
It's an action film, like you were saying.
It's a spin off, but the thing is, you take out the characters of Hobbes and Shaw and
call them Chuck and Joey.
It could have been a totally different, just to play an action film by itself with nothing
to do with the fast and furious.
Well, I think that's what General was saying, that it exists outside of it, but it's still
the same thing.
But the thing is, yeah, they're called fast and furious, fast and furious.
It really had nothing to do with the fast and furious, except the names of the people
and the characters.
Again, that kind of got me.
Why are they calling it fast and furious if you just changed the character's names and
showed it as an action movie all by itself, it would tie nothing to the series of the
action films.
Well, let me ask you this, because it is very well documented.
You're feeling about sequels in franchisees and remakes.
Yeah.
You haven't ever really talked about spin-offs as a thing.
But my thing was, is they could have called this an action film without a password.
No, totally.
Yeah, that's right.
But did that take away from it for you?
A little bit in the end, because I was watching this go and there were some car chase scenes,
there were some action scenes, but not the racing and stuff that you get more from the other
films.
Well, and I think there was specific wording.
We talked about this show, my feeling about Marvel films, that it wasn't Civil War, it
was Captain America Civil War, it wasn't the Infinity War, it was Avengers Infinity War.
And I think the wording here is very specific, that it's fast and furious presents, not
the fast and the furious presents.
And I think that's where they were kind of going with it.
I think they put it on there to get some more PR and more people just to come.
What's fast and furious and they could have been any other film?
No, go ahead.
I think they pulled enough from the characters in Hobbes and Shaw and had enough things that
tossed out to them and their specific characters that it was part of, it was a spin off of
the franchise.
There were things that tied into and their background and their stories have all been
created.
But again, not enough on a level that people that work familiar with the franchise would
be thrown off, right?
Right, right.
It's not so much that someone would be lost, but I got a much deeper out of it because
I know the storylines and the characters so well from having seen the movies multiple
times over and over, probably more than Dawn has seen them, including Tokyo Drift, which
didn't have any shout outs.
But it was, I say the Tokyo Drift.
It was there.
I didn't love it, but it made it so I didn't watch anything after it.
That's how bad that movie was, which, and Clayke, you've told me, dude, you just got
to fight through Tokyo Drift to get to the fourth one.
Yeah.
And it does, there is tie back eventually with the ending of the time I drew it into
it.
Right.
So, but, and then there were also some fun little shout outs for some other characters
that these two actors have played in the past.
Okay.
But I will see, when it comes to the acting, let me get to my point on this.
Absolutely.
I had no major shout out role where somebody blew me away in this film.
It didn't happen to me.
Okay.
And this, what do you expect?
It's a blockbuster action film.
So would you say that nobody knocked your socks off, but it was, it was what it was
supposed to be.
Exactly.
Yeah.
And it was the same kind of acting style you got from some of the other films with the,
I can call them a rock and state them in the other films.
But I will say this, the thing I loved, especially the big silver lining is like she referenced
earlier, those monologues between the rock and state them where they did the insulting
and stuff like that.
That was good.
That was really good.
That's my big shout out when it comes to acting where those monologues where they were
just literally insulting each other back and forth.
I found that enjoyable.
That's the one thing I really enjoyed.
And one thing that Jen Rums said in her written review was that what, if I read it, remember
this correctly, Jen Rums, you, some of it you wondered if it was written or improvised.
Yes.
Did you feel the same way down?
Yeah.
But still, we got this.
Good.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, because that adds to the organicness of it.
Yeah.
One of those, I would be surprised if this was scripted and if it was scripted, somebody knows these
guys really well.
And it had so much, so much, so much that they, it's like how did they work together, but
they knew they had to, because still that inside of them, they're the person that they
are.
No, a question on the acting, because you've said it didn't blow your socks off, which
that's fun.
I wouldn't call it blowing my socks off, but it was really enjoyable.
Would you say it's stronger than you've seen in prior action films?
I mean, is it better than you've seen?
I mean, it's not the same.
It's just kind of there for you.
It was just there like any other action film.
It didn't, it didn't, nothing took you away from it, but that added to it.
There's no rules I hated, but there was no rules.
So it was a break even for you.
Yeah, exactly, except for the monologues.
I'm going to give the punch.
Now, there are a couple of things where I think they try to do the cheap emotional things,
and there are some things where there's some major blunders, the best example, which is
in my review at Douglass.
The continuity issues.

That is still our website is how they start this big fight scene right before dawn in
its pitch black.
The sun's about to come up.
Literally, and I've watched it on the little clock of my wife there.
Two minutes later, it looks like it's high noon.
When the sun comes up at dawn, you don't get from pitch black to high noon in literally
two minutes.
It could have been the Arctic Circle.
You don't know.
Number two.
They were in Samoa.
They're near the equator.
That's it.
And number two is how there's not a cloud in the sky.
They go over a cliff and literally within 20 seconds, all of a sudden it's a pure gray
sky and a monsoon storm is hitting.
It's like, okay, there was this kind of one sky, you know, one cloud in the sky.
But now the sun, there's like 80, it's just like, I grew up in Florida.
It's kind of like.
But not within 10 seconds though, not on a coast right by an ocean, I see where he's
going though.
You're not getting within 10 seconds.
Somebody didn't check the continuity.
Yeah.
And all of a sudden, it's like rocks in his Samoa garb.
And then all of a sudden, a few scenes later, he has pants on and boots on.
No, no, no.
When he was running out, you could see the pants and boots.
Okay.
I'll give him that though.
He has ticked the bottom off.
But I want to go back to my original question for you because runtime is a big thing for
you.
Yeah.
At two hours and 15 minutes, I was like, this is how long?
Yeah.
It was a little long.
I mean, they could have easily cut out 15 minutes, I thought easily.
But it wasn't like, Terence Mel, of course, were 20 minutes in and going, oh my lord, we
still have another hour.
And you guys were at the park of North, if I remember for this, exactly.
Was this any form of premium?
No.
Okay.
So this is just regular 2D theater.
They did film it.
So there are options for that.
I want to go see it that way.
And it probably would add to it because action, explosions, you know, all of that.
And as for me, I would have like, I could have handled longer.
I realized it was a good, it was a good length.
But I'm not against longer if it's going to be stuff like what they put in there.
And an interesting little factoid here, Dwayne actually said at one point, Roman read for
the role of Hobbes.
So that's that one.
And their cousins.
Yeah.
No, of course.
Because it's the wrestling Samoans.
They are all related in some way or another because of the big wrestling families in Samoa.
Yeah.
Anything else you guys want to add?
I'd probably get to the final analysis.
No, I didn't.
It was there.
By far.
Let's get to it.
I don't want to say it's just there.
Because I want to get to you.
I don't be.
I think the Dolby could add to this.
Yeah.
Well, let's get to that point.
And then do do watch and pay attention for little hidden gems that come out.
Any, any mid credit, supposed credit scenes that people need to wait for?
Yes.
Stay till the very, very, very, very, there were a lot of people that missed a lot.
Okay.
Fair enough.
The way we do the final analysis on the show, we're not going to give you thumbs up, thumbs
down, letters, numbers, carbonators, anything like that, carburetors, I think is where
I was actually going with that.
We're going to ask these kids two questions.
Question number one is, would they see this film again?
If the answers know them, we're done here.
But if the answer is yes, then the follow up becomes how far they willing to go to do it.
