My name is Rob.
I'm the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast and my spare time, I do officiate weddings.
That is a true story.
I'm going to get ready to do one here in a couple of months for good friend of the show.
But I'm not alone for this particular episode, join me across the desk as he does
from time to time.
He's the official fact checker of this show and a man who's going to reveal to you a very
interesting fact about himself in this particular episode.
You may know I'm as fond on go, but his mom and even don Ford, I'm going to call him
Don Ford, welcome sir.
But before I do that, when I ever get hitched, I'm pretty sure I want you to do my part.
I will be more of an abysouser.
All right, I'm a seasoned veteran at this.
I'm a seasoned veteran of that sort of.
I'm a bachelor and also I'm over about to talk about, hold on, hold on, don't make
him want it.
We got to make him want it.
Whatever we do one of these things, it is to review something this particular episode
is no exception.
Director Jeffrey Blitz, two teams up with the duplast brothers to bring a brand new film called
Table 19.
Before we get into this whole thing, yes sir, we've got to think Austin and everybody
at Slyfox, see no need, see no need, see no need, we're such fans of those guys.
We love Slyfox.
And we love that they actually like to see us when we show up this time.
We just kind of the nice scene.
Now they treat us nice and that's good news because they let us see movies in advance
so that we can tell you about them so you can make good decisions with your heart
or in money.
Let me tell you what's going on here.
First of all, Anna Kendrick, how you doing?
That one girl, up in here, we might have a Kendrick alone.
She plays Eloise.
Eloise is deciding whether or not she's going to go to the wedding of her oldest friend.
And there's a reason that we're calling her her oldest friend.
Because until two months before the wedding, she was the maid of honor.
Until the best man who also happens to be the bride's brother dumps her over text and goes
with a different maid of honor.
So she decides to go to the wedding and we reluctantly reluctantly, because you want
you know, there's the whole thing going on there.
And so when she shows up, she's realized she's been relegated to the titled Table
19, which we, as you find out in the film is reserved for people that they really didn't
think were, they were invited to the wedding but they didn't think would actually
show up.
Or the people are kind of like, well, we kind of, that's it, that's what I'm saying.
They kind of have to because they responded.
Also in this cast, Lisa Cudro, Craig Robinson, Steven Merchant, the voice of Margo Martin
Dale.
Tony Revallori and it's June Square.
Round up your main cast and why Russell got to put him in there.
Oh, why Russell?
Yes, I'm sorry.
We have to put him in there.
Because he's the X.
It is hard in this day and age, yes, to come up with a story that's original, because we
talk about Hollywood's always been out of ideas.
They're remaking things.
They're rebooting things.
This is, you know, this is die hard on a plane or, you know, it's so
wonderful to see a film that can put an idea on its ear.
And to me, that's what this film does.
I loved this movie.
And if you want to, we equate it to something.

Surprisingly, which is our website.
This is the breakfast club at a wedding.
Yes, that's what this is.
That's what I was trying to, you put it in the end.
It's the breakfast club at a wedding reception.
And it works so well.
And what I really dug about, first of all, the duplast brothers writing this screenplay.
They're very, very good at what they do.
I know Mark Duplast used to be on the league.
That's how I knew of him and he and his brother were screenwriters.
They've done a lot of films that we've reviewed.
They've done a lot of TV, HBO loves them.
They take this premise.
And when you watch the trailer, you're like, OK, I see what's going on here.
But you get into it.
And you're just like, OK, this is going to be some sappy romcom about a girl who's
for loan.
But it's actually more than that.
It is that on a certain level.
But it doesn't rely on the sappy emotions to get you through 87 minutes.
That's what I love about this film.
This is the first great date movie of 2017.
I'm putting it out there right now.
This is a movie that people can go to together and nobody feels alienated.
As a guy, I'm okay seeing this movie by myself.
I would love to go see it with the lovely and talented Mrs. Irvin.
But if I was at the theater and this was the goal, I wouldn't feel like I got
to leave my man card with the ticket taker because I'm going to see this film.
And conversely, if my wife wanted to go and see this with some of her friends, they could
do that too.
Yes.
Well, we could go together and it's still the same thing.
There's a lot of really neat little subplots in this film.
There's a lot of, there's a couple of nice little turns it takes here and there.
It keeps you interested.
It keeps me interested.
It kept me interested for the whole time.
Watch cage.
You really want to know?
Yeah.
35 minutes.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's a record.
If I'm not mistaken.
I think you said 45.
It's 45.
The record.
Yeah.
And that's a good thing.
For those of you that maybe listening for the first time, what we're talking about
the watch of the show, how long into the film before I looked at my watch the
first time.
Another week ago, the better off the movie is because I'm not worried about it because
I'm very time conscious.
I'm not afraid to say that.
But the first time I looked at my watch, we were over a third of the way in.
And part of it, a big chunk of it is the way the script is written, but the other big chunk
of it is this cast.
I make no bones about the unhealthy crush I have on the end of the Kendrick.
And have since put its perfect.
Really?
What?
Yeah.
Putting that aside, she's really, really good in this.
She's a role mate for her.
She plays it just well enough that she plays the role well, but doesn't overdo it.

What a shock.
This is far as I know.
This film had the comedy, it's a comedy movie, but it had a great build of relationships
of underlying.
It's got a great heart in it.
Yes.
Great.
This really dives deep into relationships.
And it was a good mix between the two.
Right.
And it's different kinds of relationships.
Yes.
You know, with Eloise, it's her dealing with her ex.
Lisa Kujo and Craig Robinson play a married couple that have been together for a while.
So you deal with that.
Steven Merchant, who is one of my favorite awkward actors in the world right now.
But it this part perfectly.
He's actually in two different iTunes exclusives that release on the same day.
Hey.
And you also got to give it.
You've got, uh, Reft Glory Tony Revolori who's got that awkward teenager thing going
on.
June, squib, who's dealing with being older and not necessarily in romantic relationships,
but within personal relationships.
If you look who I liked on this, you really never saw Martin Dale.
I see.
She's one of your favorite.
But she.
And like I said, it's the voice of Margo Martin.
She plays Revolori's mother.
No.
If you want that voice, you can't just say that voice.
But what she said.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
The different style of parenting.
Let's just put it very much.
But everybody brings a really cool thing to the table within their own storylines.
But they still recognize that it still eloases story.
And they have to feed into that.
And I think the given take here with the entire cast.
I'm absolutely wonderful.
And I'm going to say it.
Again, a couple of things in here.
I kind of didn't see coming me, too.
Okay.
Oh, I see what you did there.
Very nice.
I really have that really predictable man.
I don't think.
What you really expect, because you expect this to be very formulaic.
And on a certain level, it is.
But it's also not enough that it keeps it fresh.
All right.
Now, can I give a shout out to the band?
Oh, yeah.
The Oh, hello.
Yes.
It's a three piece band.
All they do is play 80s tunes.
And they might be in their 20s.
So they might not have been around when the 80s happened.
But I want this soundtrack if they're on it.
And some of the stuff that they perform, although my favorite performance in the film,
musically, and I'm not even going to tell you what happens.
But it's when the Bride's Mother sings at last.
That is my, that, that moment in the film, I was just like, I've kind of seen that
before, because I was at DJ for 21 years.
So I've DJed a lot of weddings in my day.
I've seen a lot of things, and I can't say that I haven't seen that, because I've also
done weddings where there was karaoke involved.
And let me tell you something, Brother, a seven hour wedding reception with a full-blown
karaoke show.
I don't wish on anybody.
Yes.
But I've done it.
But, but you also have a background in this juice.
So you see it from a different angle than a lot of people will as well.
I literally, I worked at the Four Seasons and Dallas for about six.
Now, just the one in Irving or the end downtown.
Well, there's only one.
Okay, the one that's in Irving that's right on my car.
It's right in the street from where I work at.
Yes, yes, because I have to have a day job.
Trust me, yes, just doesn't pay the bills.
Yeah, we wish it did.
In the perfect world, someday we'll, but I will say this that I, I literally, and I mean,
this, when I say this literally, worked hundreds of weddings, and right there with you, you're
not.
And that sounded, I've definitely lost count myself.
And I have seen it all.
And you know what, this is like someone, if you ever waited tables,
it's like the movie waiting.
If you ever seen, you know what, that's an excellent pair of all to make.
It's the waiting of wedding reception.
If you work backwards, because it can, can I just say something?
What's it?
I will give you 20 real dollars if you stand up right now.
And that part is actually in the trailer.
And I had forgotten about it.
And would it happen?
Oh, I did.
Oh, and then of course, if you know what I'm talking about in the trailer,
that's not a one shot deal.
That is a thread that works itself through the entire film.
So, but yeah, that, but it's, it's literally, I know the staff comes in.
They start sending up the tables and I've done that.
And all the stuff I've seen at these things, and I've seen the awkward table 19, you
know, it's just people kind of like, you could tell you got the, the higher ups and
this thing.
They're definitely a hierarchy, especially when there's, there's a little bit of coin involved
in what these weddings.
Yeah, exactly.
I've never been there in a back table on the corner, you know, and all that.
And the bride and the group get to you and spend about three minutes saying, hi, thanks
for coming.
Gotta go, bye.
Great.
Now, catch up.
This was so double good stuff.
I mean, it's like, I've worked it.
I've gone to, I've worked it.
And there's like, we're delivering the food.
And it's like, there's no one to have the table.
I've done that.
So, I mean, this was so real, but I just love this thing.
I had the mix of the comedy, and it, it works on so many love you won't make you
that you don't expect.
And now, okay, I'm going to make this, okay, took my new sweetheart, faith, you're
new lady for her.
I'm new.
No, I'm care.
She's my sweetheart.
Okay.
Yeah, I'm certain.
She loved this thing.
And I was saying, I'm so glad this is like our fifth date, because this was a perfect
date.
This is the first great date movie of 2017.
Yes.
This was a great Valentine's Day weekend release.
It really would now.
And if you see the original one sheet for this, you think a little bit differently.
I think the one sheet for this, not the one that looks like the Instagram picture for you.
Yes, the four.
That's brilliant.
Yes.
I love this movie.
And I'm not ashamed to say it.
I didn't do.
And even if I wasn't on a date, I would still love it.
Exactly.
And it's the kind of movie that you can go see and enjoy wither without a date.
Now it's a great date movie.
Yes.
You can enjoy this film.
And it's not a chick flick.
It's not a guy flick.
It's not necessarily a couple's flick.
It's just a good flick.
And you should go see it.
That being said, I believe we can go ahead and get to, you know, in this, I'm saying,
there's something else.
Okay.
Yeah, it's PG-13.
It is.
But I would say any teenager, honestly, that would, I think even some teenagers might find
this funny.
Absolutely.
Because they're at that age where they're starting to go to weddings and you have that awkward
thing where you're at a reception.
And all of the people that are older, they've kind of got their own style to it because
they've been doing it for so long.
And then you kind of, I mean, I was a ring bear when I was seven.
Yeah.
And I didn't know what to do with that wedding reception.
And I still, to this day, have nightmares about the ruffled Tuxedo I had to wear.
I've gotten by the way, was like a bluish silver.
Oh, there's photo evidence, sir.
Yes.
I believe, in the end you know what?
I have to read the cake.
Okay.
I don't want to give anything else away in this case, the cake is a character.
Oh, it is.
It is.
And even when they send off and they're back in the thing, I've seen that too where
people just come back and say, you know what, let the Yahoo's, we're just going to
enjoy it.
Better so real than we left this thing, me and faith.
Oh, we loved it.
This was like a perfect, kind of been a better day.
Just go.
And let's get to the final analysis, so we can tell people about it.
The way we do the final analysis on this show, we're not going to give you thumbs-up
thumbs down.
We're not going to give you four RSVB cards or whatever.
Our audience whom we love to call the Empire, they want us to go deeper.
We're going to go deeper.
So there's two questions involved here.
Question number one, is would we see this film again?
If you've been paying attention, you probably know the answer to that question by now.
If the answer is no, though, we're done here.
The answer is yes, then the follow-up question is how far are you going to go to see it again?
Here's the spectrum from best to worst.
We'll price it the theater, twilight, matinee, early morning, second run at the dollar
theater, red box, Netflix cable.
Dom, do you see this again?
Let me think on that.
Yeah.
How far are you going to go?
I think this is the first one of the year that gets the coveted.
The first of the year?
Really?
Yeah.
I thought you'd done at least one more this way.
Well, we're going to start this coveted.
Yeah.
I think this is the coveted.
And this is all priced theater.
Again, this is also not something you give away Willie.
No, no, I did not.
This, you know, the coveted without a doubt.
I would do something.
I did not.
There's nothing.
I did not like about this.
I would see this again.
I'm going to be right there with you, full price, date movie.
I'm going to go even one step further.
I would not only see this in a theater.
This would be a blue right purchase even after seeing it in a theater when it comes out.
And you know, it's time perfectly, it didn't drag the flow with per person.
Great pacing too.
Just, every loved it.
I can't, I can't think of anything I didn't like about it.
This Jeffrey Blitz is table 19 by the time you hear this, it's going to be available.
