I just, I'm always astounded by the numbers, I really am welcome.
My name is Rob and yeah, I'm a geek.
I'm afraid to say it.
Why do you add a fight about it?
But I'm not alone for this particular episode, Jordan, me across the desk as he tends
to do from time to time, is the official fact checker of this show and a man that knows
that we're all just molecules and then one part of a bigger out of known as this galaxy.
You may know him as Fondongo, but his mom and I name him Don Ford, I'm going to call
him Don Ford.
Well, there's only about two things I got out of my chemistry class in college that I remember
to this day.
Well, you know what, I'm going to have you switch that other microphone.
All right, because we're having problems with that channel, I got to try to see what
we got going on there.
Much, much, much, much, much better, much, much, much better.
Whenever we do one of these things, it is to review something and this particular episode
is no different.
This summer, movie season is upon us for 2017 and the Marvel Cinematic Universe does what
it does and they're going to kick it off big with Guardians of the Galaxy volume two.
For what's up, this whole thing?
Yes, sir.
We got things Susan, Janet, AirBate, Susan, Jacob, Tim, Disney, we're such fans of those
guys.
So great to us.
So great to us that we got to see, I got to see this when I screened it and I'm
X3D.
And I got to see in 3D.
What's up with that?
Hey, we're, they treat so special.
We love them.
Here's the deal.
If you remember the first one from, I believe 2014, 14, 14.
So it's three years later, but in the movie, it's three months later after the original.
Okay.
Actually, we're at that in an article the other day.
All right.
And the whole cruise back, of course, let's go behind the camera, writer director James
Gun who has already announced that he is writing and directing volume three.
So that is going to be a thing.
So you've got the whole crew back.
You've got Star Lord, also known as Peter Quill, played by Chris Brad.
So we saw Donna as Gamora, Dave Baptista, we know we love Baptista, we're such a huge
fans of him.
As Drax, the destroyer, Vin Diesel voicing baby group this time around, that full-groom group,
if you're really into the first one, spoiler alert from three years ago.
Bradley Cooper voicing rocket, don't call him a raccoon.
Michael Rooker is back as Yondu, Karen Gillin is back as Nebula.
We've also got adding to the cast as well, Karen Gillin, who you might remember from Dr.
We actually, she is back as Nebula, palm, clementif.
Well, I hope I got that close.
She plays mantis, Sylvester Stallone is in this, Kurt Russell is in this, a lot going
on here.
Vin Diesel had a hard time memorizing his lines.
Probably not memorizing his lines, but they do actually do it a bunch of different ways
and even with different inflections for the different international versions of the film.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
No, it's he works.
He's just walking to go.
I'm group and then we're done.
He puts in full work.
Oh, I believe.
Yeah, yeah.
Because there's different inflections for the different things group says, and he has to do
it differently for the international versions and other languages and things like that.
So you would get, you know, soy group, you know things like that.
So here's what you really need to know, because there's a lot going on here.
But your main plot is Peter Quillash, you probably see in the trailers, this is not a spoiler
because it's out there.
Peter Quill does find his father, probably my Kurt Russell, my Kurt Russell, my Kurt Russell.
Snake, stick, pluskin, but not in this film, he goes, but while, so he goes off with
his dad with half the team to find out, you know, about his lineage, the other half
of the team stays behind on a planet as they're being hunted by Yondu, played by Michael
Rucker and his band of Mary Men.
After they've kind of upset another race, yes, thank you, rocket.
And you also get a little bit of more of an understanding of the relationship between Gamora
and her sister, Nebula.
So there's a lot going on here.
Your run time is about two hours and 17 minutes somewhere in there.
I'm just going to say this up front, don't drink a large soda for you going, because again,
like I just said, there's a lot going on here.
So if you go to the bathroom, you're going to miss stuff.
That being said, the weird thing for me about this film is it's about 15 minutes longer
than the first one, but it feels a lot longer than that, yes, it does.
Because there's, I don't want to see there's too much going on here because I was able
to follow along all the threads, but there's is a lot going on here.
And it does some of the storytelling does tend to bog it down a bit.
I think that maybe there were too many unanswered questions in the first one, and they tried
to answer all of them in this one, knowing there was a likelihood of a third one coming.
But it was still a good film.
It's just, it feels like one of the longer films.
I agree with you.
Overall, there's a lot of things in this film I loved.
If you go into my written review at www.clapassplacast.com, that's the CGI's incredible.
It really is.
You know what CGI, but you get to the point, you don't even think it was CGI.
No, rock it alone.
Oh yeah.
Rock looks amazing.
Baby group.
Great.
And that's not even getting into the rest of the CGI.
And yeah, we're talking about backgrounds.
There's some beautiful scenery with CGI and this thing.
The opening of sequence.
There's a good 360 shot of them on this planet.
So getting ready to fight this inter-dimensional being that they're protecting this planet
from or this race from.
Exactly.
Speaking of group.
Oh, they're getting a market him.
We're going to see group dolls.
Oh, he already is.
Oh, he is everywhere.
Just give way.
But I am a group.
Yeah.
The acting, it's the same week, except from the last one.
But no, no, Oscar nominations aren't seeing anything like that coming up.
But visual effects.
Yes.
Possibly.
But it is what it is.
Yeah, it's not bad.
It just is what it is.
Yeah, it's weeks from last one.
Exactly.
It's good.
But don't expect an Oscar, not bestill good.
Now, my issue with this is the lake.
Okay.
Felt long.
I did read this.
Everything else about the film.
I really did kind of like.
But the thing is, and for me, here's the thing that I like about doing reviews with
you and me.
You say, I don't have the great cred you do.
I do.
And I can come in with that view as the normal person who doesn't follow comics.
Who wants to come and see this thing.
For me, I thought the pot in the way was kind of simplistic at its basic core.
Okay.
Just he meets his dad, goes to the planet, and they're being hunted.
Right.
And then in a nutshell.
Okay.
And making that two and a half hours was just, if it had been just that, then I would agree
with you.
Yes.
But because I've, I've said the same thing.
I've said one of the brilliance of having Dawn on the show is Chad and I tend to be
the higher standard for all things.
Yes, because of how in trench we are, you're more of the every man looking in from
the outside.
And it's a good balance.
Yeah.
And that's why I really like about this.
But coming in, it's just as the guy without the great cred, it's like this film was too long.
I felt was too long.
You knew was too long.
Like I said, if that was the only plot line, I would totally agree with you.
And I'm not saying that it didn't feel like that.
And I know you guys really follow this stuff like Batman, you could tell me about everything
about Batman to the team.
I could do all right.
Yeah, to how many TV has and how many hairs he has on the top of his head and everything else,
but I mean, a noble person, you know, there's a lot of things that we don't catch that
you do.
Right.
You know, so, but still, everything else was good.
It's just too long.
That's my biggest concern.
I mean, yeah, it was long for me, but to me, I just accredited it to the amount of plot
lines going on.
And I will tell you something that I thought was a spoiler, which really isn't because
it shows us in the posters, Yondu's Finn, it more fits the way he looks in the comics.
But in the comics, he has more like a, he has like a loincloth that he wears.
It's different.
But I was happy to see him get the big fan.
Of course, it has the little mixed little jokes and quirks about pop culture.
Like, there is, but there's all the language in this is a little saltier than the first
it is.
And the one thing is, is that I think that it has a good mix of
emotional, there's some emotional stuff.
I really, there is some emotional.
Oh, absolutely.
I mean, first of all, let's talk about Soundtrack.
You put people's father to son and just about anything.
Oh, yeah.
And I'm going to get a little misty.
Yeah.
I'm going to because that's all about that song.
It in, in my written review, I'll also put their www.colleva.com, so I'm website.
I put the soundtracks incredible.
The soundtracks is incredible, but I like the mix of the comical, with the emotional,
not one, two, not one out.
Is it good, yes, great balance, great balance.
But going back to your pacing thing, I'm really going to confuse you now.
Okay.
I'm ready.
Yes, it felt long, but the watch meter for you, 45 minutes, tied the record.
So it's a weird dichotomy that yes, it felt long, but at least for the first 45 minutes,
it was paced really well because I wasn't worried about the time.
Yes.
But I just, I think that they tried to do too much with it.
It still works.
I still loved the film, so I really enjoyed it, and it's, like you said, it's got a lot
of the comedy and the drama is balanced well with the action.
There are five scenes in the credits for during and one after.
So be prepared for that, you know, as the old meme says, one does not simply leave during
the credits of a Marvel film because there are almost all of them,
and deal with something within the film.
One of them talks about something that's coming, but from what I remember, and I mean
you to go back and watch the first one again, there does screw up a little bit of the continuity.
And we can talk about that out there.
Well, one thing I want to give about, when it comes to acting, Pum, Clevincy, yes.
Her character, I, she gets my shout out role for the non-leading.
She, I, I really like her character.
You put Mantis, who is Ego's sidekick for, for lack of a better tone.
And the relationship they have with Drax and that incredible, that great comedy.
Well, you get a lot of a lot more of who Drax is in this, like, but he's to just do a lot
more in this one, and he's hilarious, yes, he is great.
There's one part where Rocket is telling Quill what he's going to do as a practical joke
and references Drax, and Batista's reaction line, yes.
I almost fell out of my chair.
There is, uh, yeah, yeah, okay, you, John was pointing somewhere, and I, yes, yes,
that's exactly what I'm talking, yes.
And it's, you know, but I'm also looking at it from the aspect of what they're doing
with the animated series versus what they're doing, what the film, and it's kind of weird
because I'm going to be interested to see which continuity it sticks to, because they're a little
bit ahead in the animated series of where they're in the films.
Now, here's my thing, and this is a worry, okay, this film was as good as the first, I don't think so.
See, I go back and forth. I, I think it's kind of one in one A for me, right?
Well, for me, as the non-greaker, I thought the little, first one seemed a little more special.
There's a little more different arrays and more, little plots, like you had the present here.
But you also didn't know what to expect from the first, and most people didn't.
Now that you had the first one, there's a different expectation, I think.
I just thought the first one felt more special, there's not more mini plots, a lot more going on.
But here's my worry though, okay, is now they're going to do three.
I'm really going to, would be interested to see how three turns out, because if three
turns out a certain way, I'm worried that's going to be to one of those. Should we make it because we can, like,
or other, other, can I just say to your fears, just a little bit, please.
Volume three will be in phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because right now we're in phase three.
Pretty much, it's been stated that once phase four is up, they're going to be switching a lot of
stuff up. Okay, so I really believe that volume three will probably be the last one.
You can see the guardians weren't always the same line up, the guardians line up change,
just like the Avengers line up changes, just like the X-Men line up changes,
so I would expect to see some lineup changes, after the third one.
Do you think they'll make a four? If they do, it will be with a different group of people.
And that's my worry that's going to turn into one of those series, so I should have made it.
Yeah, they're going to make money, but really, did you have to make it because of the quality of stuff?
Well, I really think that in Disney's hands, we're holding.
I'm positive. I'm optimistic. I'm cautiously optimistic. I think that's the phrase I'm looking for. I'm cautiously
that Disney just doesn't throw themselves at it. They're going to take their time and they're
going to do the research and is this going to work if it's not them? Let's do something else.
Because to me, they haven't, I mean, outside of Iron Man 3, which I will say is not a bad
film. It's just not my favorite of the three. They've been consistently good.
That's my only worry. So, I mean, granted, every street has to end, but
in some art, but I think Disney's also done a really good job of putting these films in the hands of
people who have respect and reverence for the material. Yeah, it's still going to get Guardian's part
seven, like other series and Guardians in Manhattan. Yes, exactly. And I don't know if you know this,
but also featured as one of, as he's a protagonist, I'll put it this way, who has a funny name
that they reference a lot. Okay. He's actually a play by Chris Sullivan from this is us.
Okay. All right. So, a very popular show right now. Yes, kids. Anything else for we go to the final analysis?
No, we're getting, all right, the way we do the final analysis on this show is we're not going to
give you thumbs up thumbs down. We're not going to give you letter grades, numbers, you know,
little alien heads, nothing like that. We're going to ask two questions. Question number one is,
would you see this film again if the answers know them were done here? But if the answers,
yes, the follow-up question will be, how far you will want to go to see it? The
spectrum runs from best to worst, full price at the theater, and we'll throw 3D at and I'm
max it on this. Then we'd go to a Twilight show, then a Matt and they show, then an early
morning show, then second one at the dollar theater, actually leaving your house to get it from
Red Box, streaming it on Netflix or just playing waiting for it on cable. Darwin, would you see this again?
Yes, how far you will need to go? I would recommend it as a Matt and A. I thought. Okay. And
the 3D was great, but I don't know if it's a handset, I don't know if it's worth it. It was great to see it
in 3D. I enjoy the IMAX presentation very much. Okay. I'm going to say, and this is going to be a
weird way to do it. Twilight IMAX 3D. So it's almost the equivalent of full price evening
from a money stamp. Yes. But I don't think you can go wrong. I would caution bringing some of the
younger kids because again, there's a lot more adult humor in this than there was in the first one,
but it's still a lot of fun. Yeah. It's still Marvel. It's still a blast. And I'm going to see it again
because it is what it is because it is guardians of the galaxy volume two. And before I end this,
