My name is Rob, I am the executive producer of the clubhouse podcast, and I am a car.
It's true story.
Not a load for this particular episode, during me across the desk as he tends to do
from time to time, is the official fact checker of this show, and a man who is so fast,
they don't even call him Lightman.
You may know him as Fondongo, but his mom and name him Don Ford, I am going to call him Don
Ford.
My first car in Montana, in 1978, in 1978, Mazda GLC hatchback that was orange with
the black plastic seats.
But it was a car.
See I was surprised that you did make a bestie of the cow joke on that.
Time to speak.
That was a prime moment for you to do a bestie of the cowbid.
Well, I took her on my first date, I had thrown her to hatchback, fair.
Whenever we do one of these things, it is to review something, and this is no exception.
It is summer movie season, and what would summer movie season be without Pixar?
It's time to talk about cars three.
For when we start this whole day, yes, sir.
We got to think Jenna, Susan, Airbase, Susan, Jacob, everybody's fans, thank you so much
for giving us the opportunity.
We love those ladies to check this out so we can review it for the Empire.
I mean, we can go through this.
It's the third in the series.
Lightman McQueen's back played by Owen Wilson and Lightman is a couple of championships
in, but he finds out that there's newer, faster cars that are being used on the pistol
or the piston cups circuit, and he starts losing because these cars are bigger, faster
and stronger.
Well, unfortunately, this is not a spoiler because this has been all the trailers.
He does get into a wreck, and because of any kind of goes into hiding for a while.
But he decides he's not done.
He just needs some more modern techniques to train.
So he finds out that he's got a new owner of his sponsor named Sterling, played by Nathan
Phillyon, because Nathan Phillyon has to be an everything, and I have no problem with that
because I'm a huge fan.
But he wants lighting to be more of a face of the brand than a racer.
So they make a deal.
If lightman can win the first race of the year in Florida, then he can keep racing.
But if not, he has to retire and sell mud flaps, so this was based on it.
Other voices in this, his trainer, Cruz Ramirez, is played by former sitcom star of
named after her, Kristella Alonzo, Chris Cooper is in this.
Larry the cable guy, of course, returns his major army hammer is in this.
You've also got Tony Shalub in this, returning as well as Bonnie Hunt, returning carry
Washington is in this.
Bob Costa's Margo Martin Dale, Daryl Walltrip, Isaiah Whitlock Jr., I mean, the list just goes
on and on.
It's Pixar.
Yeah, they got a few skins in the game on this one, yeah.
And this is Brian Fee and the director's chair taking his world at it.
Let's just start off the way we talked about it in my written review, which is currently

I never saw the second one.
You never did so much.
You and Chad both have the same thing.

I was worried going into this, or having not seen the second one that I might be lost.
And Chad said, don't worry about it.
The second one's kind of a non-secret or anyway.
Yeah.
So I went to the Doosie Wikipedia page and read up on Cars 2 and went, yeah, I don't think I missed
much.
You did.
So I went into this thing.
We got to see it in 3D, which is very well documented on this show, my opinion, on CGI
3D.
I'm a big fan, because it gives depth to the picture.
This is no exception.
This movie looks phenomenal.
I liked this movie a lot.
I really, really did, so did I.
I was surprised.
It's got a, there's a, there's a bit of an uproar when the trailer first released that
it was going to be too dark for the younger kids.
And I can understand that when you see the original trailer because it shows the wreck,
yeah.
And even in the poster, you see lightning upside down that says, at this moment, everything
changes.
So I was a little interested going into how this is going to work.
This is a very well told story.
There's a lot of some great messages to it like empowerment and believing in yourself
and mentoring.
And we were in a very, very full theater.
I mean, this theater was busting at the scenes.
And it looked for most of it like the kids that were there didn't have a problem with it.
No, they only heard one or two scramble, but they were very, very young.
Those kids are into this thing.
Yeah.
So don't let that turn you away if you're looking to bring your kids to see this.
This is a great film with a strong story.
And it also has the, has the, the uplifting message of, you know, just because you might
be getting up there in a few years doesn't mean you still don't have something left
in the tank, pun intended.
Walk, walk, walk, walk.
I mean, this is a really well done film.
I, I was surprised.
I was worried because the first one was very good and he got to figure the first one
came out in 2006.
Then the second one came in 2011, which was more, some people have said that Disney
wrote it just for the big check.
It's pretty well documented.
Yeah.
Okay.
We love Disney though.
We do.
We're big fans.
Oh, that's dumb.
Um, so then you fast forward six more years.
And this one, I think they learned their lesson on the second one, because after this
film, I was, I was worried before coming in, is this going to turn into another Ice Age.
And that is a concern of yours.
Yes.
And after the second one, it's like, oh, please, this is starting to get cold outside.
Or starting to see mammoths and all that.
And then this one, I saw.
Some of my expectations, I was kind of mixing what to expect coming in.

I put on this visually, I was blowing away.
Looks great.
Looks amazing.
Picks are does what they do.
It's starting to mean.
Well, we first got blown away on visually was the wreck, because when he goes up an
air, and it shows the car, kind of on its side, and you see the underside of the car,
and the air, and that smoke coming out of the car, visually beautiful, and they did that
scene.
Only couple seconds long, but it looked visually beautiful.
Then, where I went into overload, was the scene where they do the training in
the mountains with smokey.
That is, we'll document it in your written video.

Believe it or not, everybody, that's our website.
I know.
We never talk about that.
Yes.
But the reason it looked real life, very realistic, very realistic.
I was looking at the going, you know what?
If people didn't know this was a cartoon, people would think that it was real footage.
It looked good.
It looked like it was filmed in nature.
It looked real.
This is not style over substance, anyway, shape or full.
You already have me in an emotional state, because of a great animated short that plays
before the film called Lou.
Well, I don't want to get into it, I just want to mention it's really, really good, so
make sure you don't just stroll in when you think the movie is going to start.
Be there for the animated short that plays before.
You've already, you're already tugging at my heartstrings with that.
Yes.
Then we get to this.
And yes, there is some Wangbang action.
What's that?
I do love that his tires are light, your tires.
That's pretty happy.
Uh, but there's a heart to this, and there's a really good heart to this.
And I don't want to talk too much about it, because I don't want to give too much
away.
But there's a couple of nice little turns that it takes that reinforced that message
of empowerment and mentoring and things like that.
Not only, yeah, respect, it's not just about a car that wants to win.
There's a story behind this and a beautiful message that I really hope a lot of kids
take away from it.
So don't, again, don't shy away from it just because you've seen some darkness in the
trailers.
There's a reason for it, and there's a payoff to it.
Big time.
Yeah, because it really, really, this was an emotionally filled movie where it really talks
about, you know, are you getting too old?
It's for everybody who does any kind of sports.
For me, the answer is yes.
Yeah.
Are you getting too old?
Yeah.
When it, when does everything from a football player to a golfer to a pro wrestler?
When do they, when, when is it win?
When, when is it time?
And a lot of people don't want to admit that, hey, it's that time.
But some people, you know, they face the reality.
And for him, I think how he did that big race and what he did in it, uh, showing, hey,
you know what?
This is kind of kudos to you for everything you've done for me to some other character.
I don't want to give you anything away of what he did, but he kind of just said, hey,
it's your turn.
Right.
Um, but the, the, the, the voiceovers, Larry, the cable guy, he, he makes up part.
Oh, always.
Always.
That, that's what he is.
He is made.
He is made.
Yeah.
And he, there could be anybody in the look of made her perfect, perfect, perfect,
perfect.
Uh, oh, once has that kind of cockiness, but that real suede Wilson, yeah, that suede kind
of thing, but who can still get a little agitated at time, but he still has that suede
great guy kind of thing.
I mean, voiceovers visually great.
I mean, auto, auto, audio was great, great, great.
On the voiceovers.
Oh, here we are.
You.
And again, visually, I'll, I'll give you, I want to get back to this because there was
one scene in Smokey Mountains where they drive by in a hit a little pond.
It's just like, that look like water.
Pixar just keeps getting better and better and better.
On this one, I mean, it kind of reminded me of the good dinosaur.
How it's sort of look almost real life, but this one I think they've been up and up the
game on this.
Mm-hm.
I mean, I, I took, uh, faith to this.
She loved it.
Visually beautiful.
Yeah, my lady friend.
Uh, she loved it.
She thought it was great.
Had a good, a few good last.
And I think I love about it.
Talks about serious, serious, serious stuff, but it also has that comedy put throughout
with the mix of the serious things.
And it's done with the great mix between the two.
Their seriousness, comedy, seriousness, comedy, it's a great balance.
It's a great balance.
Absolutely great balance.
All the way through.
I really cannot think of something of this film that it did not like.
I love this thing going.
Loved it.
And I was a little worried about the runtime.
Dude, because it runs almost in our 50.
Yeah.
For an added feature, did it really nicely.
No.
It goes really nicely.
Yeah.
I thought the flow was good.
45 minute watch gauge.
Oh, that's going to get 45 minutes.
So that's, uh, ties second place.
It doesn't need.
Yeah.
So I, I, I, I cannot think of something of this film that I did not like and something
of this film that they really up the game and put this series back where it should
be.
And I think taking six years to do this film and do it right was perfect.
I agree with you.

No.
All right.
The way we do the final analysis on this show is we're not going to give you thumbs
up thumbs down.
We're not going to give you letter grades, stars, checkered flags, anything like that.
We're going to ask up to two questions.
Question number one is would you see this film again?
If the answer is no, we're done here.
But if the answer is yes, the follow-up question is going to be, how far are you willing
to go to see it again?
Here's the spectrum.
The best of the best to worst of the best.
Full price at the theater, twilight, matinee, early morning, second run at the dollar
theater, actually leaving your house to go get it from red box, streaming it on Netflix
or watching it on cable.
Don, would you see this again?
Definitely.
How far are you willing to go?
You're not going to hear this very often.
The double coveted.
So full price 3D, free animated film, that's big for you too.
But 3D made it.
I really thought this is worth the 3D visually.
I was blown away.
There was nothing on this film.
I did not like.
I left this thing loving it.
I would say I will see this again.
I'm going to go matinee 3D, especially if you get it in the Dolby Cinema because it was recorded
in Dolby Atlas.
And I think that would sound amazing in a theater like that.
But I'm still saying, I mean, I wouldn't be offended if somebody paid full price.
But I think it's to me it's a good matinee showing.
So you can go take the family during the day, go catch dinner afterwards and then do
what you do whatever it is you do.
But if you do dinner before, you wouldn't hurt my friends either.
I'll go take Alma.
Oh, yeah, brother, you might like to combine them both totally.
