up before we get rolling to Team Boobalicious with a big fundraiser last night out at Red Rock
in Carleton featuring the go-bows, played an hour set, had a great time last night, Dave
Scott, often guest of the show is there, friends of the show, Phil and Shane Amar were there,
friends of the show, Jim and Monica Bragel were there, had a great time.

We've had a firestorm kick up in the NFL over the course of the last couple of days.
I just means it's some time between August and February, right?
With one player in particular being a lightning rod.
And a guy who by all accounts up to this point,
maybe up till about six months ago, held in very high regard in the league.
And a guy that I defended in some cases when people were given them grief.
We're talking to course about one Colin Kaepernick.
Or Kaepernick, or however.

You had a right to first time.
Who decided at the preseason game with Thursday night?

Because according to him, he refused to represent a country.
Or refused to show respect to a flag whose country allowed the mistreatment of a particular group of people.
And allowed them to be murdered in the streets.

And why is this all of a sudden a problem for you?
That was weird to me.
How that just kind of happened.

I know that in light of the past several months with the Black Lives Matter movement,
taking such a front and center stage spotlight in the media,
that opinions have kind of cranked up a couple of notches.
People who become more vocal about their stances on certain aspects of either side of this.
I don't even know what you want to call it.
I don't want to call it a conflict because I don't think we're quite there yet.
But it always fascinates me how celebrities and high profile personalities will put themselves out there like this.
And I'm curious as to who they're trying to reach.
And this is also interesting in the wake of...
I want to say it was two weeks ago on hard knocks,
where they show us seeing where fishers telling them.
During the national anthem, this is how we do things.
This is how we'll line up every person on a half yard line.
You will face the right way.
And that's it.

Like this is what we do if you have a problem with this and you need to be somewhere else.
Well, according to what something that I read,
the Niners don't require them to participate in the national anthem and showing respect to the flag and whatever,

I'm not shocked by that.
But it's encouraged.

But here's my thing.
Because we're going through this in our schools.
We're going through this on different aspects of life.
All I'm asking is that you stand up.

If you don't want to put your hand over your heart, I respect that.
If you want to stand at parade rest,
I respect your opinion.

And by proxy turn on that team.
I get the whole Voltaire thing.
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend your to the death you're right to say it.
But there's also, there's also a line.
There's better ways of doing it.

There's a much better way of going about if you want to make a statement.
There's better ways of going about making a statement.
If you've got that kind of money, build a youth center in your neighborhood that you live in or where you grew up.
And again, you don't have to put your hand over your heart.
You don't have to face the flag.
Now don't face the way purposely from the flag.
Right.
But if you want to look down or whatever that's fine,
but respect the tradition at least.

Because I mean, you've got 80,000 people in the stands.
And it means something to them.
It means something to me.
I know it means a lot to you as well.
I got into it online last night with a guy.
Did you honestly feel like you defended a piece of cloth and a line in a song?
And I'm like, once you've served in the military,
you realize it's more than just a piece of cloth and a line and a song.
And I didn't serve.
And I'll be perfectly honest.
We've talked about this before on this show.
It was never really, really a personal thing to me until 9.11.
That's when a lot of people are taken.
On a certain level.
Like, I still stood and I still put my hand over my heart.
But for me, for that, it was more just because I'd done it my whole life.
In a post 9.11 world.
And you've seen this.
If I'm in my living room and the national anthem happens, I'm on my feet.
Right.
Whether I'm in the stadium or in my living room, I will still stand.
And I will still put my hand over my heart.
And I will still take my head off because it's our national anthem.
Right.
Like you remember, whenever carrying those little flags on your, on your driver's side window,
the door frame became so popular right after 9.11.
And at that time, I was working for terminates.
And I did nothing but drive all day every day from stop to stop.
And I would find these things that had fallen off of people's car doors.
And as soon as I saw one, I don't care if I had to double back to do it.
I would stop, get out of my car and pick it up.
Because I didn't want anyone to run it over the flag.
Agreed.
So, yeah, the flag is important to me.
And I know it's not, and I'm not the only person that feels that way.
And for a call and to do something like this, it's basically spitting in everyone's face.
It feels this way.
And I don't think that I'm being all the fashion.
I think I'm just being.
And my other question is, why now?
Yeah.

What now did something happen to him personally that triggered this?
If I expected any kind of frustration, not even to this level, but just frustration
and people that are dying and whatnot, if I'm going to expect that out of any athlete right now,
it's going to be one doing weight.
Who's cousin was gunned down this past week in Chicago, right?
And I know that the saints are wearing a sticker on the back of their helmets for Will Smith.
Not the actor.
Not the actor.
They're the former player, right?
But that's also what, that's another issue that's kind of caused some derision because
you had good el saying that the cowboys couldn't wear a sticker on the back of their helmet for the police.
This is supporting the fallen police officers granted they didn't play for the Dallas Cowboys,
but it's something that the cowboys believed.
Let's see, that's a whole other POI for a whole other time.
Maybe so.
Because we're kind of getting away from what the root of what we're talking about.
Well, I mean, the root of what we really ought to be talking about is how political statements
and sports can sometimes, you know, muddy the same waters.
And they don't always have to decide.
I would rather talk about that in a separate POI.
And I'd rather otherwise, it's 730.
And we're still talking about that.
I mean, you know, it's a very hot button issue.
It's very polarizing.
And normally, I know we try to avoid things like that because it can become very polarizing.
We don't want to step on anybody's toes.

The reason we're not gonna be on the air in two weeks

But I get to spend time with my niece and nephew

but getting chance to see them

You can still surprise them just don't tell them they're coming tell them that no effect tell them that you're not coming and then show up anyway

But I'm very very I'm I'm looking forward to it more this year than I was last year
Really just because they know I'm coming well and it's because the anticipation because didn't it like almost like got like sprung on you from out of nowhere about

In this year it's more about the event because last year is more about seeing it was more about the trend than it was the event
