me anymore.
I'm losing it as I'm getting older.
But I'm not alone for this particular episode, Jordy me across the desk as he tends
to do is a man who plays video games that I like to watch him play because he's much
better at it than I am.
He is Chad.

Also, joining us is the official fact checker of this show and a man who will shoot
on you if you need him to.

Not like people because that's just wrong.
But maybe they will all bad, so I did there a little bit.

What ever we do, one of these bad boys, it is to review something this particular
episode is no exception.
Today, we are reviewing a film for you.
It is my first time director in an indie rocker, Ilya Nyshuler, good luck with that.
It is called Hardcore Henry.
Before we start this whole thing, we have to think Ashley and our best friends allied
ally in a great in marketing.
What's up?
Yeah, it's the price actually was there after this last week, but she's brave to
doubt for us.
So thank you so much Ashley for inviting us and ally for this thing.
Thank you, guys.
Again, it's called Hardcore Henry, it is directed by Ilya Nyshuler.
The only other thing he would have directed was a video short for his band, and I can't
say the name of it on our show.
But if you know what Samuel Jackson's wall it says in Pulp fiction, the same thing.
Now, that's the name of the song.
It's not the name of the band.
That's the name of the video.
Okay.
The band is called the biting elbows.
He did what called the stampede as well, but it follows a similar formula as the aforementioned
film we're about to talk about.
It is called Hardcore Henry, and it's a little bit different than your average action
film, because the one say it's a little different, but what it does is it gets you
into the action, if you will.
The entire film, all 90 minutes of it, it was shot using GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition
cameras, which means the entire thing is what's called POV or point of view.
And for any of you that's played Halo or Call of Duty, that's what it looks like.
Yeah, I mean, it's pretty much it.
It looks like a first person shooter.
No, Grand Theft Auto is more of a third person thing.
You see over, yeah, you see over the shoulder of the guy.
I'm just, I'm really just liking the song so much.
So really, you can't say who plays Henry, because you're Henry.
Yeah.
Does that mean I can sad benefits now?
Maybe so.
We all have a black person in that.
But Henry wakes up not much of a memory, no voice to the view of his wife, a stealth
played by Hayley Bennett who you would know from the equalizer.
She is a scientist.
He's lost a couple of limbs, and so she has made robotic parts to put him back together.
As he's getting used to what he is trying to call his new arm in his new leg, the entire
deal is basically broken up for them.
Yeah, everything goes, goes pear-shaped as my wife likes to say relatively quick.
It all goes downhill from there as the kids like to say.
I pick really good music.
I'm sorry.
It's like focus my brother, focus.
I have no focus, you know that as well as I do.
What's kind of cool about this film, I mean, you know it's set in Russia, because there's
a lot of Russian scenery, a lot of Russian names in this thing, a lot of Russian actors
or Russian names, and one of them is actually his wife, who also scored the film.
Her name is Daria Charyusha.
She played the the Biker Dominic.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's just why.
They haven't referenced their Russia a couple of times.
Yes, so once Acon, not Acon, Acon was an Acon, because Acon is a singer.
We might need to re-emphasize it, but the emphasis on the other syllable.
It may be Acon.
Acon.
Played by Dinoa Coslovsky, he's the bad guy.
He wants to build an army of super soldiers, sorry, copyright marble, for his evil
biddys.
And this dude looks like a character in a Capcom fighting game, like bigger than life,
he really does.
And so Henry escapes his clutches and goes on the run, finds out that he's getting some
guidance from Jimmy, played by the great Charltoe Coppolae, who manages to pop up everywhere.
Yeah, I don't want to go too far, I don't want to ruin anything.
There's a reason.
But it's Charltoe Coppolae.
I mean, if you remember him, he was Murdoch in the 18 movie.
He was a district nine, the main character, district nine.
Big fan of the sky.
Yeah.
So, I mean, do we really, do we really do go too much deeper into it?
Tim Roth has a very small part in the film.
And you really can't go too much deeper into the plot, because you're going to give
so much away.
Exactly.
I put it perfectly.
I think in my written review at www.well, I can speak to you, share, sir, which is our
website.
I just have never heard that say, I think I put it perfectly.
They can pretty highly of yourself there, don't you think it's where the movie
cranked meets, cranked, cranked, with Jason State.
What meets Call of Duty, basically, basically, you're getting his point of view of the
same thing.
Well, and I say, man, who basically, and I think Chad actually, I didn't put this
in my review, which is at www.theclothhousebikeass.com, because I thought he, because
that's our website.
So, the one person that normally doesn't get it is a one person that's taking
a vote of our slack.
Chad actually put it a really good way too, and I thought you were going to put it
in your review, and you didn't, because I didn't, because I thought you were going to
be sorry about that.
It's like an hour and a half of the church scene from Kingsman, done video game.
Like, you said, like, Call of Duty, because there is even a couple of points where I swear,
I kind of saw him do, you know, when you change weapons in a game, you kind of looked
like that.
When he was putting a new clip in, I'm like, I'll keep on wanting to hit the B button
on the Xbox controller that I wasn't holding.
And also put on there, that's kind of like a video game comes to life in a B.
That's what it, you know, what it basically, and at one point, there's a roof top scene,
and I'll like it, doing those silent scopes, the whole time, but that's not a knock on it.
That's a cool thing.
It's like a video.
It's a compliment.
This is a completely different take on the action film.
I mean, we've all seen, you know, them take several swings at the plate, it game is
based based on films and films based on games, and it's a real mixed bag.
It doesn't, it doesn't tend to work well.
I would say it's a success rate between the two sits around 60%.
Yeah.
It's better than half, but not nearly what it's right.
And you, and you may be being generous with that, but I love the idea that they've taken
the basic concepts of a high-Octane action film and given us a first-person perspective
in it, much like a first-person shooter, which is what this film, that's the audience
that they're appealing to.
And that's why I went nuts during this film.
I had a great time.
I lost track of how many times I heard people go, oh dear God, it was normal even me.
I mean, we have to learn the impact.
This is graphic, biotely, do the thing, everything, I mean, it is not for the kids
at the least, but it's rated our for a reason.
My personal thing, though, is I tried following the plot and I thought it was okay
through the first half and the second half, I just thought they threw the plot.
No, hold on, hold on, hold on.
All right.
I just thought that they threw the plot out the window and just put a bunch of violence
of killing.
And there was no realistic real plot.
After the second half of the last half of the movie and that's the thing.
That to me is your fatal flaw because you tried to find logic in an illogical act.
I've never had that much.
You're absolutely right.
I don't know if I read your view.
You can't leave your brain at the core of this thing.
That's what this film is nothing more than a...
We've used this phrase before.
An old TV show that our spike, that was called movies for guys who like movies.
That's what this is.
This is not a movie.
You're not going to get emotionally involved.
Apparently, ESPN agrees with me.
God.
But it's not a good date movie.

But yeah.
Again, if you take your lady friend to see this movie,
boys, you're going to over one.
And understand Mother's Day, the movie,
it's coming very soon.
So she will cash in quickly.

roller coaster adrenaline ride,

This is a twitch experience.

You know what twitch gaming really signifies,
you pick up a controller and you just go.

To me, this is like playing a multiplayer level
of a first-person shooter with network play going.

When I said,
you play video games,
and I watched them.
Like, you came over one Saturday,
and you brought in justice.

And I sat there,
and I watched you play story mode.
Because I know,
for a fact,
I will get frustrated and throw something.
Because after the Super Nintendo,
I'm out.
Like, I can't do the 19 buttons
and the four joysticks,
and...
I own an Xbox One.
That's the guy with an Xbox One in the game.
But there's a little reason for me
to own an Xbox One.
Let's give a guitar hero for Christmas.
It really love that.
I think I would.

Remember, I have been on the Wii.
He had real deals right there on the Wii.

Oh, that's right.
You did get that.
But that's what this was for me.
I actually leaned over to chat at one point.
I was like,
how much are you resisting the urge to reach up
and act like you're controlling this thing?
I swear to God,
when he would change a magazine,

It's like a program for him.
This movie is so much fun,
but it's got an audience,
but it's not a mass audience.
Yeah, it's not a huge audience.
And it may not even find that audience.
Like,
okay, just as an example,
when I left the theater,
I went by a video game store.
Okay.
And the subject came up,
and they're like,
there's two guys working there.
They're like,
so how was it?
And I looked and dead in the eyes
and I was like,
you guys are going to love this thing.
Because you are the target audience.
We are the target audience for this film.
And I'll tell you what else impressed me.
I am not one as I am getting older
because I am a man of a certain age.
I'm not one for shaky camp.
Here come the mummies.
It's called revenge.
Okay.
And I really thought going into this,
man,
I don't know how much of this.
I'm going to make it through
because
I don't know,
I might get sick.
You know?
Mm-hmm.
And talking to Ashley,
are for an Adelaide.
She says,
look,
I have vertigo.
And I got through it with no problem.
You're present for an Adelaide.
You're present for an Adelaide.
And so I was like,
okay.
And I had no problems with it.
There was a couple of points.
I was kind of like,
whoa.
Like when he's running downstairs
and things of that nature.
When he was way up high,
I was like the escape scene.
Yeah.
I had to look away because I can't stand heights.
But I was okay.
Like I didn't have any freak out moments.
This movie is just simply plain and right out there.
It's a lot of fun.
It's a fun, fun movie
that if you want to just like Dawn said,
leave your brain at the door
and just enjoy some gratuitous violence.
I mean,
at one point I was like,
it's a very realistic violence.
Some of it.
Hyperrealistic violence.
Yeah.
Some of it was a little overinflated.
Kind of like,
I don't know.
Maybe something that happens close to the end of the film
or someone asks to see somebody else.
I mean,
but it's,
and we did hit a Wilhelm screen.
Yeah.
We did get a Wilhelm screen.
You have anything out on this,
but the dog walking scene.
And you don't want to think about me.
It's,
it is.
Yeah.
That would really happen.
You know, that's, that's, you know.
But like,
I don't know if some of these omages were on purpose yet.
But like the train scene,
I was like,
I'm watching the video game bad dudes on the big screen.
I'm literally watching one of my favorite arcade games,
which I have here as a home version.
I'm watching this on the big screen.
And there's some definite like the credit sequence at the beginning.
Wow.
And the way I put it in my review is
if Quentin Tarantino directed a bon title sequence.
That's what this is.
That's really well put.
Because that's what this film is.
If Quentin Tarantino directed a video game movie,
this is what would happen.
If Call of Duty ever gets made into a film.
They need to hire this guy to do it.
But my question is,
how many times can you go to this well?
You know what I mean?
Well, I mean, because I feel like if you go back to this well,
you have to take it to the next level.
And I really don't know what that next level is.
Oh, I know.
Oculus Rift it.
Wow.
Well, let's look at it.
Then I would get sick.
Great came out, right?
How many praise have they done after that?
Two.
There's only two.
But I thought the second one just kind of,
you know,
and that's what it were if they do another one.
This is original.
I mean, I will give it to original.
Oh, absolutely.
You know what?
You know what?
I think this would go over well.
And not maybe not so much Oculus Rift,
but that place that they're building in Salt Lake City,
Utah, that the void.
Oh, the void.
This is tailor made for that place.
It's done.
It looks so little confused.
The void.
It's a virtual reality.
Like a playground.
But you have the virtual reality helmet on.
Okay.
And you see the virtual reality world.
But like if you see like a table,
there's actually a table in the room that you can touch.
It matches up with the virtual reality.
Everything you hold.
Yeah.
So everything can work off of each other.
But you can, it's, it's basically for D,
almost as we're calling it.
It's like imagine imagine like laser tag photon,
but you're wearing a virtual reality helmet.
But it's like what they're doing on roller coasters now.
Yeah.
Especially out here at six slides.
Right.
Like you can wear a helmet.
And while you're on an actual roller coaster,
you're going through a virtual reality world.
Like an alien planet where you're in a spacecraft or something.
Like like in this thing.
Like when you walk up to a wall and there's a torch on it,
they've got a space heater in the room that you're in.
In Salt Lake City.
And you hold your hand that you feel.
You feel like you did.
You know, like the alien invasion thing.
More or less.
More or less.
Yeah.
I was totally out on that.
But yeah.
I kind of creeped me out.
But it's totally immersion.
And something like this where it's not like CG,
but it's photorealistic.
Like it's, it's not done on a computer.
It's just done with people out shooting on GoPro cameras.
It's perfect for it.
And nobody outweighs their performance.
Like all the performances work together really well.
If you've ever wondered about the range of Charltoe coply.
Where you don't wonder no more.
That's all I have to say about that.
The guy's got range and he proves it here.
Anything else we want to talk about before we get to the final analysis.
For for those of you that either have seen this thing or plan on seeing this thing.
And you're and you get a little worried because it looks like people really get hurt.
The amount of injuries on this film.
We're almost nonexistent.
Yeah, there was like one person had stitches and five stitches.
One chip tooth.
Yeah.
That's it.
Can you believe that done?
I figured people had to have sprained ankles, broken legs, strain.

I'm like, that's impressive.
That's a good stunt team that you've got.

But for a guy's night out.

Because I'd go see it there.

Because this thing's worth it.
It's a blight.

I would definitely recommend it in a theater either Matt Nay or evening.
I also, if you have a really good home theater system.
This would be a lot of fun in your theater room.
Just have a more confined space.

And it would be great.
It's simply like Studio Movie Grill.
You know, Alamo draft house where you can chuck down beer while you're watching this thing.
And just listen to everybody react to it.
That'd be a blast as well.
I think the Alamo will do a lot with this.

Imagine the pre-show on that thing.
Or just imagine what you could do during the film.
