I am the executive producer of the clubhouse podcast and I am not a fan of skiing.
Just not.
I like things with actual brakes, not defying gravity.
When I'm not a low-pist particular episode, joining me across the desk as he tends to
do is my co-host and a man who has a built-in tooth on his head because he's got so much
hair.
He is Chad.

I will ski on you, but I will not.
I will not ski.
But I have not, I have not brave the frozen dough.
Not a water skiing fan.
I don't mind like wakeboarding or whatever, but I don't know.
You will have it.
Will you brave the inner tube on the water?
I will do that.
Okay.
That's a little different.
As long as my dad's not trying to face him.
Also joining us.
And the most important part of this particular episode is the official fact checker of this
show.
And a man who grew up in a section of the country right here until he saw at least one eagle
in his lifetime.
You may know him has fun, don't go, but his mom and name him Don Ford, I'm going to call him
Don Ford.

Snow skiing.
I've been doing it since I was five years old.
That's one thing I miss about living down here is hitting the slopes.
I'm out.
Oh, love it.
What'd you do at once?
I think I'm out of ski lodge.
I'll give you a roll.
But getting up there.
Just fit free to go.
Wush.
Oh, fine.
These, it is usually to review something.
And this particular episode is no exception.
We are here to review.
Actually, one of us is because Don's only going to look at the see this film.
We were otherwise booked that evening.
The film from Dexter Fletcher.
Is this a feature debut?
Well, he had some two.
I'm a two other directing thing.
She could say.
And he has one up coming.
So basically this is his third.
Okay.
But no one was an actor, though.
I mean kick ass.
I mean the whole.
He has a whole array of movies and stuff.
He's starting.
He has Dexter Fletcher in his film.
He's called Eddie the Eagle.
Starring Terran Egerton.
Hugh Jackman.
Christopher Walken.
The, it is a true story of Eddie Edwards.
Not from the wolves.
The notoriously tenacious British underdog ski jumper,
who charmed the world of the 1988 winter Olympics.
But before we start this whole thing,
I really, really have to thank Josh,
Aladdin, a great marketing 20th century fox for everything.
They're so good to us.
Oh, they are incredible to us.
I'm really glad you got to go because I really wanted to go to this thing,
but I was previously.
Chad was helping me say I was previously engaged in track to you.
So, but I was glad you got to go see this.
I'm really interested to hear you talk about it.
Before we start the whole thing,
which I put on my Facebook page,
but we're going to be adding the social media.
It's a little different.
Yes.
We were invited and I was able to cover the empire for
doing the red carpet at that screening,
where I got an interview,
Dexter Fletcher, Terran Eggerton, and Hugh Jackman.
And it wasn't like a Skype thing.
They were right there in front of you.
Yeah, it was a Dallas premiere.
I shook Hugh Jackman's hand at the end of the thing,
but at that way, I mean,
very incredible, incredible event
that I will never ever forget.
And we're going to have that available to you.
By the time you hear this,
it'll be available to everybody to listen to.

social media check out all that stuff.
So, this movie runs about an hour 45.
How did that feel for you?
Was it an hour 45 about right for this?
Yes.
Yes.
I want to get into the plot.
This will kind of be spoiler free,
but this is a true story.
Where you feel for Eddie.
You really do, because it starts some showing off as a young child.
Only a couple minutes into that,
but that's all you needed.
There's a child who had it where the light braces
and stuff very handicapped,
but even as a kid,
he always tried dreaming of being an Olympics.
And he's gheed,
and Britain on these fake snow courses,
and he tried out for Olympic team,
and everybody said,
no, you don't have it.
And they just look at them as this average person.
The guy who might get picked second or third to last,
and he realized that there's no one
in the ski jump for Great Britain.
So he says,
I'm going to compete,
and that makes me eligible,
and I'll be in Britain has to send me
to be in the Olympics,
because his dream was just to be in the Olympics.
He dreamt since he's a little kid,
and that's the story of him trying to get in,
and of course, his history shown he does compete.
And so let's go into that a little bit.
Yes.
Terran Eggerton.
This is the kid that was egzy.
Yeah.
Kingsman in the Kingsman.
Were you able,
because that was a big break out roll for him this past year,
were you able to separate that roll from this roll,
as far as his portrayal is.
If you look on like the trailers and stuff,
you don't see,
you know, guy from the Kingsman.
Good.
He had, they really,
he had his hair out long.
He wore the beard,
the glasses.
He really didn't think of them as the other guy
from the Kingsman with the well groomed spy.
But he was very,
so I really like the look and how they had him in the make-up.
And how they,
you really separated him.
And he, I got to give it to the acting on him,
because he had like that frozen face expression as he talked.
Kind of like Bill's palsy,
but very, very unsevere.
Okay.
It's just kind of talk like,
you knew that there was something just.
Okay.
Very nice.
Exactly.
To the tea.
You didn't think of him as Tehran at all.
That's right.
So he really has range.
He's definitely shown.
Oh, yes.
Yes, he has on this one.
Here, he really showed as a,
and it's kind of like that Rudy feel of the underdog kid on this.
Jackman.
He's done so many different roles in this thing.
And those are the two main characters.
He could say,
who,
he kind of has that,
I hate to say it,
but that Wolverine kind of attitude.
You know,
he's not,
he's done so many different types of roles,
but kind of that.
The rough guy who drinks smokes all that stuff.
You know, and basically he takes him under his wing.
And does he do it begrudgingly kind of?
They start at the beginning.
They really want to do this.
Yes.
Yes, because,
because, really,
they start in the movie that they start training these kids like at age six.
When they want to get them to like the Olympic level and stuff like this.
So this guy's way behind me.
Oh, yeah.
He's, yeah.
He's got a lot of stuff like this.
But he's got some under the wing and all that.
And he does a great job in that.
He's,
it's the jackman he knows to love.
You know, in this role here.
Pleasure role perfectly.

My Non leading role shoutout goes to room,
Temte,
room,
tempte,
who played the,
born who is the Norwegian coach.
Harry, it's kind of like that competition between the coaches.
He was in a TV series called The Last Kingdom Hotel Caesar.
He's on the netfoot show, the Lee Hammer.
He did a couple episodes of that.
Probably be about all you know him from in this country.
But he does a good role as a competitive.
He has the star power under him, the finished coach who has these, you know,
people 25-year-old people have been training since age five under him.
He's like, but they have that, you know, friendly competition.
Overall, in the acting, I was really impressed when it comes to the look of the film.
Very beautiful.
Good.
And it had that look of this takes place in the late 80s, but it starts in, it's more of the training
up to the Olympics of 88 in Calgary, and where they'd have this, like, all your training
facility in Germany, and the look of the film was incredible.
And there was some CGI and stuff like that, but nothing major.
The one thing that really impressed me is you see Hugh Jackman jump on, and this film,
at night, just on his own, just, you know, going back to memories, because the character
in real life was an accomplished, he jumped on him, and that scene how they're able to
make Jackman go down that, that's the huge 90-meter jump, blew me away on that.
But there wasn't too much CGI, but it had that feel of like you're watching something
from the 80s, a lot of news footage.
At the end of the film, which I really enjoyed show real pictures, you know, of Eddie
and stuff like that.
But the look, the nature shots really showed skiing.
You know, it reminded me of back home when me skiing in Montana at Red Lodge, you know,
let's ski resort up there.
So the look was very, very incredible, to the plot in storyline, a lot of good comedy
throughout.
Not too much comedy, because, you know, it's kind of that, you know, feel good movie,
but the comedy was right at the right points, nothing real, adult, you know, humor,
anything like that.
They take a relatively light hearted approach, so yes, they don't be real heavy handed
with it.
And it didn't feel shoehorned at all.
No, no, just those good kind of shots that made you laugh here and there.
It's not like cool runnings territory, which has a similar, but yeah, but yeah, yeah,
totally that, that where the comedy was just right, the seriousness was just right.
Here's the thing about this film.
It's now 45, you know, it's now 45, but it was time to write paste, right?
It did not direct for me.
You know, no, it went by really fast.
I thought the pacing wasn't credible, it just, you were so into the story.
And this was like, I hate to say it, but like, one of those Rudy films, or you just
pull for this kid, and even though you're not, you know, he's not going to get the
gold medal and all that, seeing this kid get his dream of being in the Olympics and you
just feel good for, yes, it wasn't a silly kind of way and it was just a fight.
Just a fight, just to be able to have that dream come true, because that's the thing,
starting out in the movie.
He's a little six year old, because I want to be an Olympics and his dad say, and
I'll forget it.
Forget it.
And here he is now an Olympic athlete, you know, and that is history, you know.
So it had that poor form, feel good, there's a lot of times when this, at this screening
where people clapped and stuff like that, kind of like the karate kid, Rudy, when
he makes that tackle, karate kids, when it's tournament, that kind of thing, you know,
you couldn't help it root for me.
Oh, yeah, everybody, if you didn't root for me, you're coming this.
Anything else you want to add for a good to the final analysis?
Um, something that just really enjoyed there.
Yeah.
The way we do the final analysis on this show, we don't give you thumbs up thumbs down.
We don't give you letter grades or number rankings or stars or anything like that, because
our audience whom we affectionately refer to as the empire, they want us to dig a little bit
deeper, so we're going to.
I'm going to ask Don to questions.
Question number one is would he see this film again, if the answer is no, then we're
done here.
But if the answer is yes, I need to know how far he's willing to go to see it.
Will he pay for full price first run?
Would he wait for maybe like a twilight show, a matinee, maybe early morning on a weekend,
would he wait for it in second run at the dollar theater?
Would he run it from red box?
Would he shoot me from Netflix?
Or would he wait for it on TV?
Don't we just hit this again?
Definitely.
Yes.
And I'm saying this not because I was at the red carpet and met the stars.
This is being totally objective.
Right.
This was one of those feel good, Rudy movies.
I'm getting with the full price.
Honestly.
I've done red carpets for other films as you have rated so highly.
Yeah.
You are an objective review.
Yeah.
And I cannot find anything wrong with this film and this made me feel so good.
Everybody in the theater just left going.
This was incredible.
I can't think of anybody when I walk in, I've talked to other critics and stuff
over there who've thought of anything bad about this film.
And so finally, can we have to think for the red carpet for the screening, Josh,
Algarity, Al, on the Al, I didn't grade a marketing.
You're such an amazing job.
Yeah, the cinematic and of course, you know, everybody up there who let us do this whole
thing.
