It is Chad's turn Well since my computer just crashed I've got a reboot but I did take some I did take some notes and this is something I think that we can all get Get involved in We are all part of I think I can very easily make this statement that we are all part of the MTV generation Okay, we were all raised on it. We we we we have not known a a day in our adolescent lives that didn't include MTV in as part of the discussion And we've also often discussed on the show how Far over the shark MTV has jumped in the last oh who knows how many years to the point to where I I don't even bother looking at MTV much less. You know, I can't breathe past it quick enough But in it I didn't change the name of it.

I do too. I didn't because this got nothing to do with it But in it's heyday I can mean we can we you know admit that the 80s and 90s was the 80 a day of the 81 baby right So I would kind of like to discuss the two decades that we were fondest of That we have the fondest baby, huh decade and a half well. I mean you know like you just said it started in 81 right And then it kind of started to spiral in the late 90s.

So let's discuss The MTV programming of the 80s versus the MTV programming of the 90s. Well, but when you talk about programming MTV really didn't have Programming per se until the late 80s. True Because that the late 80s is when you got headbangers ball and you've got your MTV wraps and you got club MTV Before that it was just Videos all the time and ain't nothing wrong with that But I think for programming I would start about 89 I go back to 85 okay These are the these are the the primary examples that I did I picked up on for for the 80s Club MTV started 85 believe I was a fan.

I was a fan 120 minutes started 86 wasn't a huge fan of that show because They probably really wasn't your genre music It was but I could watch that on normal MTV like and it came on like really late at night on like Friday nights And I was just or maybe it was Sunday nights. I can remember when it aired but It was just like out of my normal routine TV watching but it had its following. I mean, oh, yeah, absolutely.

I mean, it was around MTV too. Actually revived it for a while It was around for a Or let's see 14 years Dial in TV Which was the precursor to CRL current started 86 Could you have to call 1800 dial MTV exactly head bangers ball the aforementioned head bangers ball start in 87 Which was on Saturday nights? Yo MTV wrapped which started 88 every day at four o'clock eastern and Because I watched it every day and MTV unplugged began in 89 Unplugged to me is one of the most revolutionary television shows of the last 50 years Because what I love about unplugged is it showed you the musicianship of your favorite art Because they had no processing even though Mariah Carey had some reverb It was all acoustic for the most part like everyone saw you had somebody that had an electric guitar Which didn't make any sense One of my one of my when I talk about unplug one of things that six six out to me do you remember when LL cool jaded unplugged no and They did I want to say it was mama said knock you out And they were using the the piano riff from Hard to handle they're gonna do it Interesting I that's one of things I love doing unplugged because You could see your favorite artists even turn their own songs upside down like Cheryl Crow unplugged when she did all I want to do She like she did it like half speed and turned it kind of moody it was kind of interesting or when Let me crab it's did are you gonna go my way?

Actually, I may have a clip of that hold on and and I mean let's not forget how how Eric Clapton totally revitalized Lala On it on unplug yeah here's here's Lenny crab it's doing are you gonna go my way Russ talks about remote control True which friend of the show Devon Pike and friend of the show Clay Harrison Are doing an homage to with universal remote which by the way will be performed at all kind I believe it's a week from Saturday Might have to check that out But this yeah, this like We all know are you gonna go my way this is this is the unplugged version. This sounds like they got Steven Ray Vaughn to do it But of those of those shows that I listed off Unplugged is the only one that's still going Barely and it's and it's even not what it used to be and you know you may have Like whenever you clicked over to the 90s some of these shows evolved into a different like like for instance Like club MTV ran from 85 to 92 and then turned into the ground and 90 to Eric niece from the original Real world so let's so let's discuss the 90s You had alternative nation and ran from which was the pre the the contemporary of 120 minutes well is according to According to this list 120 minutes lasted until 2000 right, but but I don't know Alternation was another version of it because it was the same basic format. Um, then the grind from 92 to 97 Beaves and butt head from 93 to 97 That you have you forgot to mention liquid television.

Oh, I haven't forgot. Okay, so it's on the list. Yeah, it's on there Celebrity death match From 90s coming back allegedly and it had a brief return After it's original run from 90 to 02 in 0607 Then liquid television from 91 to 94 which gave us beaves and butt head and a on flux And the only still running show on this list That started in 92 is the real world and Don't ask me how Because to me this is where the problem really started the real world definitely started the reality TV quote on quote revolution And I watched probably the first three or four seasons of real diet.

It was kind of fascinating for a while and you know if you're there's another one You forgot sandblast It was a game show that was hosted by summer sanders and Remember of Christian band Dakota motor company Peter King It was a game show that took place on the beach and on a lake So they were like different events that teams would go through and there was an obstacle course at the end So this is kind of like the gauntlet that they're doing now the no cuz the gauntlet is real world versus Right this is just regular contested But I'm just saying the the format of the contest is based so weird. I was just talking about somebody else about this the other day The announcer on that show who was the wacky guy And I'm up here in the tower guys and things are crazy out there was a then unknown Kevin James Really yes Go but I'm I guarantee you can find some of this stuff on YouTube look up MTV sandblast you're gonna see Kevin James and go Wow cuz I'm told you everything's like this guys and I can see everything from here on the contestants are going crazy Thank you has regret I wonder if anybody had plays those episodes for it was a but it was a fun show to watch it was mid 90s I really enjoyed Sandblast was a lot of fun. You know he gets an email attach from there around there Oh, yeah, you got jokes today I'm the funny one stop emailing me But I don't understand I mean we've got palladium now But it but the palladium is a lot of like full concerts and stuff which you know I'd take that over the crud they're cranking out on MTV now agreed You know get back to what it once was I mean I I appreciate the fact that they wanted to get into original programming because that's how a that's how a network grows Look at Netflix and am you know all these right all these subscription based companies that were just Basically showing what was given to them and they said you know what we can start blazing a trail You've lost your way Agreed everything that you do is just the derivative of the exact same crud and if you want to watch music videos You either have to watch it like early in the morning same thing with VH1 or you go to palladium But even access TV does some music video shows But It's real hit or miss I just I just understand how they can even have a video musical award show anymore because You know yeah, yeah, I don't get the VMAs like Is it all you think that's they shouldn't YouTube sponsor that or or Was it Vivo Vimeo no Vimeo's like the like short films and something it's a Vivo yeah VBO yeah, and they've got their own app now.

Yeah, they I know they have their own Their own a channel on YouTube. Oh, they've had that forever, but they just recently unveiled an app just for their their videos But just just looking at these examples of of seeing Where it started and then where it headed and then now it's where it's at It's painful just It seems like we just can't only keep coming back to the same conversation of just how much MTV sucks now And and you look at how when they started going into their own original programming It's at least held on to what the channel was about right? I mean they they split the time Like I get that like okay, maybe you want to show the real world in prime time.

I get that But one of my things when I would come home from school every day was get home MTV wraps would come on I Believe that that and club MTV were back to back And then you could still watch the countdown show on Fridays because they would do top 20 on on Fridays And I'm sure you kind of lived for spring break MTV spring break absolutely because there was some we would again We were just talking about this the other day I remember in the in the mid 90s They were doing MTV spring break and the Gavin Rossdale lead band bush I'm gonna put it out there so you can laugh now They played at Daytona Beach and it started to rain and the whole band let this stage except Gavin Ross That will who sat out there with an electric guitar and just played glycery and it was amazing wow And I don't understand Russ says that pallidia is now MTV live Really changed names. How did I miss that? Because I was pallidia heavy there for about six months when I actually could get my DVR under control And I would record all kinds of stuff out there because they play some really cool concerts And they actually play a lot of the the more current unplugs.

I wish they play some of the classic stuff but You know To me it's just incredibly frustrating. It is frustrating, but then again We're also we are men of a certain age You know, Russ is talking about MTV should do a channel called MTV classic like VH1 did I like VH1 classic But even VH1 classic started to get kind of nice it really is like a case you haven't watched The first 16 airings of that metal show here it is again But I remember MTV classic was doing Pop a video for a while and I love to do some pop a video. Yeah, you were probably the biggest fan of that show that I knew But yeah, I mean I agree with the Russ to say it MTV has a jaw rule jaw rule reality show that shows you how bad it is because he just turned 40 the other day I don't know and I think it's maybe just because it's old man Rob popping up and telling these kids to get off my lawn But I just I think there's a place I don't know that it's something that you can make a flagship station anymore because of the internet But there is a place for a music video channel especially in high definition Because it's not like artists aren't making videos They're making them and You know, do you still have People of our generation that would still like to go back and watch this stuff every now and if you don't believe there's a market for it 80s on eight serious xm is hosted by all the original VJs They're still getting work kids.

Yep MTV just needs to make an app that's like five dollars a year. Oh, it's all of their content I do it and Russ Russ says the name change happened on February 1 so it hasn't been that so it just happened it just happened Think Russ has got our back. Don is very very he's got some things going on tonight So Russ is kind of backing us up You know picking up the slack for Don not be in with us tonight as he tends to do rushes good people Yeah, I don't know I agree with you I mean, I would love a video channel that I could just stick on and let play But then again, I've got YouTube for that too Because I guarantee you with the Vvo app you can do that.

Yeah, but unfortunately you got your occasional artist I'm not mentioning any names That will not allow their videos to be played on anything You haven't been to a name so it is initials are pretty treasures Nelson. I believe they might be that okay We anything else we want to discuss or if we got this thing. No, just Russ is you know, look at CMT But even CMT's got a ton of original programming out there You know, don't colds got it at not two hours of it a week But that but CMT does show videos MTV not so much Come back around MTV go back to where you and VH1.

Does that take a drink of my tasty beverage I'm sorry, Don's not here for this Whatever we play this song it means we have a major announcement to make And we're about five weeks away from this We are going to do something coming up next month that we've never done before on multiple levels As you may know if you subscribe on iTunes one of the things that we review our stage productions Part of it comes from our friends at the 18T Performing Arts Center which you'll get a brand new one of those this week Also, but from the widely theater and the windspir opera house Which will have a new one coming up very very soon for that But also we review things where our friends at Dallas summer musicals They're at Fair Park who do an amazing job that we've seen some incredible shows there But they do something beyond that So circle your calendar for April the 14th It is a Thursday night which is a little odd for us But we are going to do a live remote broadcast At music college fair park which I'm not sure has ever been done I'm claiming it you think we're playing the flag I think we're playing the flag here Where we will be broadcasting live for the better part of four or five hours From the high school musical awards this is something Dallas summer musicals puts on every year Where they they go they literally have a group of judges that hit every high school musical production in North Texas If you go back and you listen to a show that we did back when was that September Yeah, on North Texas giving day in September listen to the North Texas giving day show We did live from the house of blues in Dallas had a great time at some great people those people had so much fun They want us to come back So next month April the 14th It's gonna be it's also gonna be something not only that we've never done before there But we're gonna be doing this in a way we've never done it before Where before the show will be doing a pre-show live just off the red carpet inside of Music college fair park Then we're also gonna be broadcasting during the show We're gonna be backstage interviewing the winners This is gonna be awesome.

Yeah, we better get some cardio in between now Tell you something sir. I have spoken with some friends of ours Tracy Jordan and our friend Francisco over there at Dallas Summer musicals just had a conference call with them this past week. They're extremely excited We're really excited and not only that You're gonna be able to listen live on you stream just like you listen to our normal show But Dallas summer musicals is going to be broadcasting the show through their website from our you stream feed as well That is so cool.

So we're gonna have you covered every angle From from the from the high school musical awards This is gonna be awesome. Yeah, I'm I'm as ecstatic as I've been for anything We are so thankful for our partners in business and Dallas summer musicals Is no exception to that they have been they are so good to us. We've been working with them now For almost three years Got it has been now coming up in June and They have let us they've given us so much access to stuff that I don't know that we can ever repay it But stay tuned stay with us because coming up very soon.

We're gonna have a lot more information on this I'm so excited about this Because not only that, but there's that ticks off something else to that we're not gonna talk about yet But listen in the coming weeks April is going to be a very very busy month for the clubhouse podcast and I just want to say The only reason these things happen is because of the empire Because the empire is so good to us. No, that's what a what a relief that it absolutely Interesting there's a lot of things going on right now With people talking about opponents for Kevin Owens at WrestleMania The only rumor that I've heard that I'm gonna be okay with is Sami Zayn Because it's kind of like Any two members of the shield and a match together Because if you don't know your wrestling history Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens Used to be an ROH known as Elginarico and Kevinstein respectively These two were a tag team for years and Then when steam went heal he turned on generico and that that series of matches if you ever want to Educate yourself on the history of professional wrestling go YouTube these matches These two put on an amazing set of matches together I want this for WrestleMania This sounds like it'd be a good pair because right now WrestleMania is looking really thin Which is kind of sad especially given the town it's going to be in yeah Possibly I'm hearing now that loop gallows and Carl Anderson have wrapped up their stuff with new Japan They are expected to be on the main roster in about a month so right after WrestleMania The bullet club will be in full effect Which may end up being the baller club if Finn moves and Finn says he's happy at NXT, but I think if they wanted to do this he'd jump in a heartbeat So would you be happier with him being the baller club than the bullet club? It's like 1984 if it were a kung fu flick it looks very matrixy to me dude.

You're gonna watch this and go this is gonna happen This is like the we're gonna have president come on show This is a self-fulfilling prophecy and the director came out recently and said he didn't realize this film was going to become a documentary He didn't know that Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph wind up in these Chambers that end up they go into cryo sleep for a couple hundred years and they wake up in the future and Everything's jacked up There'll be a lot of current pop culture references that you'll watch this and go.

Oh, that's what people are talking about Because we're way headed down that road. So go check this out Number five is a film that Has a niche audience, but I don't think got enough of a crossover audience empire records I love this movie so much never saw that one either really you've never seen empire records Put this on your lists sir. You would really enjoy it's about a bunch of kids that work in a record store That is in danger of closing down live titlers in this Great soundtrack to if you remember the Actually, I think I may even have it.

So I'm trying to look at that Chip Wilson. Yes, I don't know why they went to straight to VVS Maybe I can Peter trying to tell me something Number three and a an a documentary that might be kind of hard to find But if you can find it check it out it's called heroes of world class Basically these are guys that did a Documentary about world class championship wrestling here in Dallas and really did a lot with the The footage that They couldn't get because Vince had everything yeah, and these guys told a really really great story It's a great documentary make sure you check it out. I can attest to that one because I've got it And I thought about both of those documents both of ones Vince did the both what he didn't I thought really Complementy each other very very well.

Yeah, I was afraid that what they was just gonna be one was gonna be completely overshadowed by the other and no It was like a good companion piece a number two a movie called anvil the story of anvil These guys are a metal band that Like the first 10 minutes of it is People like Lars Ulrich and people that are huge in the metal community. They're like these guys should be bigger than they are It's funny and it's touching and it's depressing and it's joyful all the same time really is I have seen this and number one call it bias. I don't care That kid begins I don't know that a documentary has affected me In years the way this thing did and we talked about it on this show multiple times It is the story of the young man who had a make a wish About year and a half ago now Where he wanted to be Batman for a day and to make a wish not only pulled it off of they shut down the entire city of San Francisco for a day and turned it into Gotham It is If this documentary doesn't well you up You might want to check your pulse.

Yeah, go to Walmart buy a song because yours is broken. It's so good and it's so wonderful And do you have any chance to check us out yet?
