Special Edition The Oscars 2016

The following is a sooner orgator production.
Good morning my name.
It is 702 on the East Coast. It is 402 on the West Coast. It is the 28th of February in the
year of our lower 2016 Leap Day Eve. It is season 6, Episode 28, somewhere in the 330 mark,
sequentially. It is time for the Clubhouse podcast live every Sunday, 9th, 7 Eastern, 4 Pacific,
normally your one-stop shop for all things sports and entertainment. But tonight we're going to be
a little focused. It is Oscar Day. And who's going to sue us for saying that? Nobody.
So we decided we do some a little bit different, something we've never done before,
which many would ask why we haven't done it before now. But you know, it is what it is.
So we decided to do for the first time ever in the history of ever,
do an Oscar pressure. I mean we do a lot of different pressures. Why not that too?
My name is Rob. I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast. And I am prepared to rock
the party that rocks the pinata on this thing. But I'm not alone because that would be really boring.
Joining me across the desk is my co-host. And a man that can tell you a thing or two about filmmaking,
because he's just as much of a student as I am. He has chat. Welcome sir. Good academy award evening
sir. And to you as well. Also joining us is the official fact checker of this show. And a man
that may have brought Chad some presents tonight. Because I know what he forgot. He's got
out in the green room, Maine for me. You may know I was fun, don't go, but it's a moment
even done for him. I'm going to call him done for the welcome. It's his fault. I got it.
What did you know? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But I have to say one thing since you brought
up, you know, the 29th of February. I knew a girl from Montana. Sadie Hawkins Day that she was
actually born on February 29th. Her name's Athena from back in high school. So does she celebrate
normally on the 28th of the first? Yes, both to 2018. Okay. But actually she turns 11 years old
tomorrow. Even though she's been right here. I'm going to talk about women's age on the show. But I'm
just saying, but yeah, I happy birthday to her because it's not very often. She actually gets to
sell. Actually has an actual birth. Yeah, exactly. It is kind of a blessing and occurs to be born
on February the 29th. So there is that. What we're going to be doing tonight after we do
some corrections last week. Hope you guys enjoyed the paper view done. Was out of town. But he
did so get to watch the paper. And I was able to listen to show after the fact. And it was the thing.
It was a joy. I enjoyed it. Yeah, it's a good show. Rather than next night kind of overshadowed
everything. You think? But we'll talk more about that next week on the next week. Show. I still
stand by my seamless rating on that show. Understandable. Yeah. But I didn't hear anything that was
off-kilter for your your totals for the year. Don is still ahead. But the narrow the margin
got narrowed a little too. Those wrong last time. So you're undefeated streak. I think I'm still
bringing up the rear on that deal. But there's like one point separates each person. Okay.
So there you go. See not chance getting in on the act. It's so good for him. All right. So what we're
going to be doing tonight is we're going to be talking about officers. We're going to give you
our prediction. Because we each in front of us have the ballot courtesy of our friends at
therapy in the studio. Yes. First of you, our friends at fan dango, which is not fun
don't go with completely different. That's me. But we have our official ballots in front of us.
So we're going to get started. We're going to kind of go from the bottom up. We're going to go
from the end of the ballot up. Because you know, you got to bury the lead. You know, we got the
big 24 here. The Skinner don't start with the free person. Do we have a Drake song to play at the
end of this thing? No, I do like that song. I do enjoy that song. We'll be we'll be
instrumental intensive tonight. So
I have to excuse me. I'm still trying to get my voice back. So all right. So we're going to start
with best sound editing. And remember kids, not a lot of this is going to be real scientific.
And how ironic is it that we just started our predictions and my boss just sent me is.
So let's start with best sound editing. You're not many is our Mad Max Fury Road, the
Martian, the Revenant, Sicoria, which was kind of surprising to me and Star Wars The Force Awakens.
Chad, let's start with you. Yeah, you were going to do this to me. I always go last.
This is such a tough call. A lot of great films in this category with, you know,
people think most, well, who's so about sound editing. We pay attention to stuff like this. Yeah,
you kind of have to. And there's so many instances here where my heart tells me one thing
but my head tells me another. Indeed. And remember, these are who we think will win. Not necessarily
who we want to win. And God knows it's hard for me to say anything but Star Wars and a category
where Star Wars is nominated. Agreed. But as phenomenal as the sound field was in Star Wars,
there's two other films on here that I think might have etched it out with the Martian and Mad
Max Fury Road. Okay. And it's just a process of elimination there. You got to pick one and that's the hard part.
And I think this the smart movie is probably going to be to go with the Martian. All right,
Dawn, I'm going to go with this other one. I'm going to go with this other other other
other other top two. I'm going to take Mad Max. I actually think they have to give something to Mad Max
agreed, but I agree with Chad and this. I think the Martian just from a sound field standpoint.
How you can master that kind of a sound field in an environment you're trying to create like that
where you're literally creating a vacuum and you're completely selling it. I mean, agreed.
At some point you're like, did they do a documentary on Mars or, you know, it's it's it was just
like patting to don't know how they found it talking bare, but they did. Best short film live
action. Your nominees are Ave Maria. Day one. Everything will be okay. Also in this
Alice weird. Good. Shock. S. H. Okay. And stutterer. Dawn. I did a coin flip. I picked day one.
I haven't seen any of them. I hate to say it. Which one did you pick? Day one. Okay, Chad. I'm the same way.
I mean, we didn't get chances. There's going to be some categories where we're just kind of kind of
pick on point faith. And that's that's almost anybody. There's very few people if any that I know
that I've seen every film on this list. I'll go with. It says it's S. H. Okay. Shock. Shock.
I'm taking Ave Maria. So all three of us, something different there. Best short film animated
bare story. Prologue. Sanjay's super team. We can't live without Cosmos and world of tomorrow.
Chad. The only one I've seen on this list is Sanjay's super team courtesy of Pixar. That was
on the good. Good. That was one correct. Don. Even though I saw Sanjay with Chad there,
I think they, they've go for the cute Kettle. I'm gonna pick bare story. The little upset that the
animated feature attached to inside out that love is not. Love is not. Yeah. So I would pick that in
hard. But I'm sticking, I'm also sticking with Pixar. Sanjay's super team. You guys did enjoy that
quite a bit. Did you not? I love you. I didn't get to see it, but it's really hard to bed against Pixar.
Yeah, but the volcano one, I think was better. I love it. Love it should be on the list.
Maybe it was on there last year because I remember that thing making the rounds on YouTube two
years ago. Could be. So I might have shown it earlier. Best sound mixing. Bridge of spies. Mad
Max Fury Road. The Martian, the Revenant and Star Wars, the Force Awakens Dawn.
So many times and over the years, the cadmete gets one film and gives him a ton of them that year.
Agreed. I think that this is the Revenant's year. I'm gonna pick the Revenant.
Chat. I'm going with Mad Max on this one. I agree with you here. Mad Max for your
run, it just sticks out to me. And I'm really trying to put my Star Wars bias to the side.
And my heart goes ghost with you guys and happened. My head's seen the Revenant.
And you have that right. Best makeup and hair styling as we go through this Mad Max Fury Road.
The 100 year old man who climbed up the window and disappeared. Which is an indie film. I've heard of it.
And the Revenant. Only three nominees in this category. Which is the Rod. Very odd.
So on this one, Chad, we're going to start with you. Max again. Dawn. I'm going with the Revenant again.
I agree with Dawn. There's just something about the way they stylistically did this film with
makeup and hair. Oh yeah. I mean Leonardo after the attack. And one of the two of us is going to win
because if it's not going to be the Revenant, it's going to be Mad Max Fury Road in my opinion.
Moving on to best visual effects. Ex Machina. Mad Max Fury Road. The Revenant. Star Wars,
the Force Awakens and the Martian Dawn. They have to give something to Star Wars. People will
write it. Some of you can fix Star Wars on this one. Star Wars or we write it? Yeah. Chad. This is the one
I definitely want to give to Star Wars. But a big chunk of me is wanting to lean towards Ex Machina.
So are you going? I've got to throw Star Wars about at some point. So they'll go here.
This will be the I agree with you. Machina comes in a very close second. This will be the first
clean sweep of the evening. I just I can't not. When it comes to visual effects, you go back to the
dogfight on the ground to the in the air to on the ground again. That scene alone breaks it away
from the pack. But I wouldn't be shocked to see Ex Machina win this. You got to dance with
the wanted to bring you out. I agreed. And you can't discount Mad Max Fury Road either with
the whole number of practical effects they did in that film to blend with the VFX. I mean,
good Lord. If they had an Oscar for Best Stunt Work. Max gets dead. I don't know. Best
original score. Bridge of spies. Carol. The hateful ate. Sicario again. Or Star Wars. The
Force Awakens chat. The one we're listening to. Force Awakens. Yeah. Don. They have to give
something to Tarantino. So I think the hateful ate. That's what the one it's going to get tonight.
The hateful ate here is my dark horse. Part of me. Any of you. Any of you did such an amazing job.
I'm going a completely opposite direction of the both of you. And I'm going bridge of spies.
Part of me want to go hateful ate. The only thing that pulled me away from that is
it's more a county pulled a lot from the thing score back from 82. So that that was the one thing
that can't be from doing it. Because I said that the academy gets to know weird patterns. So I
know I hear where Don's coming from. And again, to me in this category, the hateful ate is a bit of a
dark horse. But I just I don't know why Bridge of Spice pops to me like this. It's Spielberg. It's
thanks. And Williams did this, did he not? Bridge of Spice? Yes. No, remember we pointed that out.
Oh, that's right. I want to say this was Thomas Newman. So I'm going to go a different way.

As much as I like Mad Max on this, the Academy gets real flu flu so I'm going to pick the Danish girl.
Chat, same here, same reason. I'm going Mad Max Fury Road. I hope you win. I'm just thinking
what my head and my hand just everything visually about that film. We forgot the original song
on this version. Oh, did we do we just want to let's go back and do that there?
Best original song. Honestly, this is what I'm surprised that Danish girl didn't wind up on make-up
and hair styling. True. Really kind of surprised with that. Best original song earned it from 50
shades of gray. Monterey from racing extinction. Simple song number three from youth.
Tell what happens to you from the hunting ground and writings on the wall from Spectre Chad.
I've only heard one song on this list. So I guess I got, I got to get if it just got to give it
to Spectre. Dawn, you've seen a couple of these films. Yeah, I'm going to tell it happens to you
from the hunting ground. Yeah, I'm with Chad. As much as Spectre to me as one of the weaker themes
in the context of the film, it works a lot better. And I just, you know, call it my bond bias.
Best production design. Your nominees are Bridge of Spies, the Danish girl, Mad Max Fury Road,
the Martian and the Revenant. Chad, we're going to go back to you again. I gave this into the
Martian. Dawn. Me too. Yeah, give some to it. So we've got two clean sweeps because I said the Martian
as well. Again, you watched this movie and you go, how did they get to film on Mars? Yeah,
but still trying to figure that one out. Best film editing the big short Mad Max Fury Road
The Revenant Spotlight and Star Wars The Force Awakens Dawn. I think they have to give
something to Spotlight so we can give the Spotlight fair enough, Chad. I gave it to the Revenant.
We all in different ways in this because I'm good. And I think Mad Max Fury Road, I think they're
going to have a bigger night than a lot of people realize. I hope so because I adore that film. Because
really, I mean, you had your hardcore fans of this film, but so much just came out of nowhere with this
film. And I think you're going to see that again tonight that so many people had so much great things
to say about Mad Max Fury Road, I think it's going to pick up a couple of more statues and a lot of
people will expect. And I don't know what the biggest odds are and anything because I'm just too
lazy to look it up. Best cinematography, Carol, the hateful eight Mad Max Fury Road, the Revenant,
Sekario, Chad, hateful eight. Dawn, Revenant. I agree with Chad. I think if the hateful
it's going to get something technical, this is going to be it. It's a toss of a two-in-a-hateful
eight Mad Max. Just because this movie was so brilliantly shot. Like, I actually felt cold in the
field watching this film. Of course, you can check out a lot of our reviews of these films if you
subscribe on iTunes because we do have iTunes exclusive episodes where we review a ton of stuff.
Plus, it also didn't hurt that we saw a really good print of this thing. So that we did.
I really hope they put that version of it out on Blue Ray as well. Me too. You got to admit they'd
have to. You're just thinking they'd have to. Best documentary short subject.
Body team 12, shall be on the lines, Claude Lansman Specters of the Shoah,
a girl in the river, the price of forgiveness, and last day of freedom, Dawn. I'm going to do
child beyond the lines. I like child. It's a sound of these. All right, Chad. Again, there's another
case that we didn't see any of these. And initially I put down last day of freedom, but once I
got a closer look and saw the Specters of the Shoah, I think I'm going to lean toward that. I
actually agree with you. There's something about that that just sticks out to me when I read the
list of nominees. I don't know it's because it's the longest title on the list. As we know,
that's how Charlotte tends to pick her March Madness picks. But when you read the word Shoah,
you know, you're dealing with the the Holocaust. So that that always kind of gets my attention.
Best documentary feature. I believe we have we have access to at least four if not all five of these.
I've seen all that one. Amy Cartelland, the look of silence. What happened Miss Simone,
winter on fire? You cranes fight for freedom, Dawn. I'm going with Cartelland because I want to
say we had an Oscar winner on our show. Chad, I got to go with winter on fire.
That thing took my breath away. I'm going to create with Dawn.
Because we had the cinematographer for this on the show last year. This is true. I mean,
I watched every one of these. I watched Amy Cartelland. I never good did do the whole
look of silence. What happened Miss Simone and winter on fire in the same day. Wow, you're going
to run on tear. I've been to them and winter on fire just knocking me out. Okay, fair enough.
Best foreign language film in brace of the serpent, which just recently got a wide release.
Mustang, son of Saul, feed, and a war. A war still hasn't gotten its full release,
but it did get released in time for the Oscars chat. Well, since our esteemed colleague reviewed it
and had good things to say about it, I'll go with son of Saul. All right, after son of Saul. I agree with
Dawn and Dawn love this film so much. She got to see it. We did not. I'm going to go. I'm going
to roll with them. So if we're wrong, it's his fault. Okay. Okay. Okay. No pressure. The best animated
feature, anomalisa, boy in the world, inside out, Sean the sheep movie, and when Amy was there,
Dawn. Oh, inside out was I'm down. I mean, that hit my heart. Chad, he's at Mania morning.
I think that's morning. It's a morning. I believe so. I need classes. Uh,
sent here. That's why I've got these on. And since I still think it's a travesty that the
penis film was not even nominated, uh, it makes it easier for me to just go ahead and hand this to
inside out. I agree with you. I really thought that the, uh, the penis movie should have been involved here.
Part of me wanted to go to Sean the sheep just because friend of the show Scott Jackson or the
costume or the costume. But again, how do you number one, how do you bet against Pixar? Number two,
how do you bet against my favorite Pixar movie of all time? I mean, you're speaking of knocking
you out. This thing was a gut bunch. When a movie is so good that it's on a plane where I see it
on a plane after I've seen it in a theater and I don't even plug my headphones in and I still sit there,
watch it and probably break down. And I know what's coming and I'm so like, oh my goodness,
here comes up. I mean, this movie is so amazing. I feel bad for these other nominees because
Pixar destroyed it with this. Yeah, they really did. Oh, inside out is the Vegas odds,
by the way. Is it that doesn't surprise me? I mean, this movie is that good. That's the smart money.
Do you remember that normally we're going to cover all things sports and entertainment every week,
but we're being kind of focused on movies this week because it is Oscars big night as the kids
like to say. Next week, we'll be back to abnormal. This is our first annual prediction show.
Yeah, we don't make this a regular thing. I'd like to. I do. I think we need to do this with some of the
bigger ones. I think we, you know, with Emmys Golden Globes. Yeah. Grammys. That would be interesting.
Okay. Now, thank you. I don't know if we have enough time. I don't know if we have enough energy
or give a darn. I also want to remind you, lot of stuff coming up. For instance, I don't know,
maybe the Dallas International Film Festival. And a very big show coming up next month. And it's
kind of one of those deals. It's a series that I was talking to her. Where it's going to be
locally based, but I think our fans around the world are really going to enjoy what's coming
up in the month of April. The month for us. Yeah, have a nice ripple effect, I think. So stay
tuned. We're not ready to unveil it just yet. We've got some, some, some, some wrinkles to iron out
nothing major. But it's also going to be something completely different for us because of the
way we're going to be doing that show. So it's, and there might be something beyond that. It's definitely
going to be spreading our wings just a little bit. Yeah. So stick around for that. Right now,
let's get back to our Oscar predictions. This is going to be one of the quickest shows we've
ever done. Best adapted screenplay. Now, let me explain for those of you that aren't real Oscar
educated. They do two different categories for screenplay. You have best original and best adapted.
It kind of makes it fair because you don't want to just do best screenplay because you've got
some people that are just basically interpreting somebody else's work versus somebody doing their
own original work. So we'll start with a adapted screenplay. The big short, Brooklyn,
Carol, the Martian, and room chat. Martian, because I've read the work that it was, that it was
adapted from Don, and it was a really good job. As much as I like to see the room win it,
I'm going to go with the probably the big horse, which is the big short. I agree with Don. Yeah.
I totally agree with Don. Betting odds, big shorts, the leader. I just, there's something,
you know how Don talked about. They got it for something to fury road. That's how I feel about this.
This will be the one that wins for the big short. Okay. Because I think it's going to get
shut out other than this. And that's sad to me. But, and I haven't seen it. I'm going with my gut
on this. If it had come out any other year, maybe. From best original screenplay, bridge of spies,
ex Machina, inside out spotlight and the only nomination for straight out of Compton, Chad.
That's the last two is where I'm torn between spotlight and straight out of Compton. Fair enough.
But, I got to give it to spotlight. All right, Don. I agree. Clean sweep there.
I really wanted to check the box for straight out of Compton. I really, really did. Yeah, I did too.
But, man, spotlight was so good. You talk about one of the most riveting films I've ever seen.
One of the films that's kept me glued to my seat more than just about any. And that's, that's
the only edge of cats. Best supporting actress. Now we're getting into the big dogs. We're going
to let the big dog eat right now. Jennifer Jason Lee for the hateful ate, Rooney Mara for
Carol, Rachel McGatams for spotlight, Alicia Vickender for the Danish girl, Kate Winslett for
Steve Jobs, Chad. Boy, I've seen every one of these performances. And gosh, is at a tight race.
But, at the end of the day, it's a very close race between Alicia and Jennifer Jason Lee,
but I got to give the edge to Jennifer Jason Lee. Don, as much as I agree with Lee, should win.
If I had the should win, she'd get my vote, but it's going to be Alicia. My boss actually says
Alicia Vickender. He only gave me the top five. Okay. I'm going with Jennifer Jason Lee.
One, she won the Golden Globe, did that. That's true. Yeah, but Alicia won the the sag,
which is a more of a, that's it's a toss-up. Yeah, it really is a toss-up. Well,
that's the time if they were saying they win the big one. Two, if you didn't know that was Jennifer
Jason Lee, you had no idea that was Jennifer Jason Lee. She was that good in this. And if it's
one thing we know about Tarantino, he will resurrect the career on. Yeah. And he'll do it without
even trying. She played one of the most convincingly repellent characters. The dog or two appear.
Oh, I agree with you. I don't agree with you. If I had who should win, she would get my vote in
heartbeat. Yeah, but Alicia pretty much crushed it as well. So that's, this is going to be a
theory. And now if I, if I didn't go with her, I would probably go with Rachel McAdams.
I think I think she's a dark horse here. I put numbers in my third is the bronze.
Fair enough. Yeah. That's kind of what I am. But I think she's a dark horse here. Best supporting
actor. Christian Bale for the big short Tom Hardy for the Revenant. Mark Ruffalo for Spotlight.
Mark Rylans for Bridge of Spies. Silvestor Stallone for Creed Dawn. First off, betting odds on
supporting actress is Alicia. Okay. Who should win, which I said on my review at the
which is the iTunes Ruffalo for Spotlight should win it. But he won't, they're going to give it to
Sylvester Stallone as a, you've been in here for 40 years. Here's your Oscar final.
Academy. I, I, Ruffalo deserves it, but they're going to give it to Stallone.
Chad, so you don't think Hardy has a snowball's chance? No, I would give, I would give first
of it. If I had to choose in the order, I would give it to Ruffalo, then I would give it to Hardy
right after that. Then to Bale, then Rylans, then Stallone, my ass. But Stallone, the academy is
just, oh, you know, this is like your makeup Oscar. Here you go. I got to give it to Ruffalo.
I'm going Ruffalo as well. I, yeah. That's my shoes. Oh, good. And now, you know that one
scene, which I talked about in our review, which I said that one scene, what they've done, but
no, they're going to show what they're showing. Yeah. Here's the other thing though. This is one
where I'm picking against who I think will win. Because I really believe, I believe in what
Don says I think Stallone wins this. He won the golden one on betting odds to do Stallone.
But I'm picking Ruffalo just because I, I may be hoping against Hope here,
but I really think that Ruffalo wins. My boss picks Stallone as well. That's the safe bet. It
really is. I mean Stallone was remarkable. And I've never seen it put in turn. I'd be okay to be wrong here.
Yeah, you know what I mean? Same here. So best actress Kate Blanchett for Carol Brie Larson for
Room, Jennifer Lawrence for Joy, Charlotte Rampling for 45 years, and Swarie's Ronin. I'm sorry.
I got that complete. Swarse. I think that I just like completely trivial to that name. No,
not really Brooklyn. Don. You know, this is a,
give me a good one here. And as I hate it, like I love but I hated Charlotte Rampling for 45 years.
She didn't have said it. Oh, yeah, but she now, no, this one goes to Larson after, I even said it on
on my, this goes to room on this one. Chat. There's only one name you needed to read and it's
pretty large. Yeah. I will agree. Brie Larson here. I'm a little confused. Did you see room yet?
Not yet, but I know everything I need to know. Okay. Um, I have not seen Brooklyn. It's the only one I
have seen. Yeah. So I don't know about it. Is Jennifer Lawrence now the new
Maryl Streep? Do we just nominate her in accordance with California State Law? Yeah. Because I really,
as much as I love her, and I think she's an amazing actress. And she did get an opportunity. She did get
what, but was it Oscar worthy? No. That was my thing. No. It's still a great performance, but in a
field that was so deep this year, I don't know that I would have put her in this top five. And for the
year, I really do have to reverse my stance on Charlotte Rampling from our review because I think
she did her job almost too well. Yeah. Yeah. I understand by my, she was so ruthless and I think yeah,
I completely back off on. Was it Oscar worthy? Yes. It was worth the nomination. I will, I will say
what I will admit what I'm wrong. I was wrong on Charlotte Rampling. Yeah. She deserves the
nomination. Yes. I had, I had to 100%. I mean, I don't have to change my stance because that was my
stance. Yeah. But I don't know that she did a better job than pretty Lawrence and in room. No,
what, I still think pretty Lawrence will get it or she should have anyway. Best actor. To see
now we're getting into the big dogs. Oh, by the way, I have to give a Brad's Brad is saying

Don. You know what mine is? Yes. It's what's out of doubt. Is it time? Yeah. And plus, you know,
like I said, they're, he, you're in that film half the time he didn't talk, but he didn't need to.
He was that good. Yeah. This is Leonardo. This is going to be such a close race for me between
the Caprio and Damon. But I do think the, the general sentiment is, it's the Caprio's year.
Part of me wants to believe that the Caprio is going to turn into the Susan Lucci of the Oscars.
Always the brides, but never the bride. But there's so much talk. Yeah. Like, it, it,
if he did it right about almost he deserves it. I'm ready for this show to be over. So I don't have
to hear about it anymore. Yeah. Like, that's how bad it's getting for me. But I'm picking him to win and
picking him to win. Now I'm going to give you a dark horse and really this shouldn't be a dark horse.
But I think that my dark horse pick kind of got screwed by another movie.
Don't be shocked if they call fast-benders name. I won't. Because he, that his film, his
Steve Jobs film had a long way to go to take the bad taste out of people's mouths for the other film.
And I think he's kind of got lost in that shuffle that a lot of people didn't give him the
props he deserved for that film. The wind fluid as well. I think. Yeah. What she, I didn't even know
that it was her favorite betting odds to Caprio, of course. And then Matt Damon is at the worst.
He's the dark horse. Well, yeah. I want to go in a dark horse. He's under it. Don't want
100 to 1. There seems a little generous. That's what they're given him. If you bet one buck,
you win 100. If you win the loss. Even though he won the Golden Glipper comedy musical
performance, explain that one. My boss actually says Leonardo DiCaprio as well.
Best director. George Miller for Mad Max Fury Road. God bless him for that nomination.
Lenny Abramson for room. Tom McCarthy for Spotlight. Adam McKay for the big short.
And Alejandro ineratu for the Revenant. Chad McCarthy. Don. You know, I think I'm, this was a coin
foot for me, but because I think, you know, they may give it two years in a row for Alejandro.
I don't know. That's why I'm not going to pick it because double double the award.
That's why I'm going with McCarthy for Spotlight. We've never had a back-to-back director,
have we? If there has. I don't believe so. Don't get me lying. But I can't check because
my computer just died fair enough. I don't see ineratu winning back-to-back here. I mean,
yeah, I'm going for Spotlight because that thing was, it's much better. That's room too.
Yeah. That's a clean sweep. I think this is for Tom McCarthy. This movie, if you have not
seen Spotlight, there's something wrong with you. It does deal with some very dark subject matter
and we get that. But what you really have to do with this film is you have to pull yourself out of
that and watch this film for what it is and what it is is amazing. Yeah.
Bending odds is actually the Revenant. Mad Max comes in second to seven to one. McCarthy 33 to
one. McCabe for Big Short 33 to one and Aberson for room 101. Is it kind of a glaring omission
that Ridley Scott was a part of this? That's something else got it and Ridley Scott did not
get an nomination for the Martian. It just seems kind of shocking. It is kind of weird.
But I think Miller took his spot and I think just because of the film for what it was.
Did Miller take his spot or do you think McCabe took his spot? I think Miller did.
But it could go either way. All right. So now the big one. Best picture. And thank God there
isn't a 150 nominees this year. We've actually got it down to eight. So I think it's because
the last year was 10 last year. Yes, it was. I thought it was a nine last year. No, there's always
even number. Okay. The big short bridge of spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max Fury Road, the Martian,
the Revenant, room and spotlight. Dawn. Because he also won the best picture last year.
I don't think you'll get the back to back. I'm going to go with the the spotlight. Dawn, Chad,
bingo, same thing. We're going to sweep this. My dark horse is Bridges spies,
just because of who's involved. And you think about the fact that Hank did not get nominated.
Or Spielberg did not get nominated. He's a 250 to one on the betting odds. Who is?
The 255 to 150. Again, this is my dark horse. Yeah. Spotlight is four to one.
Um, Riley is the only other nominee. Yeah. Right. He was great in it. Don't get me wrong.
Oh, and the in the score. By the way, director from my boss. He did pick in a rotu. He is picking
the Revenant. Revenants, the two to five leader right now. But then also the big short seven to one.
Now, if I wouldn't wasn't going to go spotlight, I might go room.
But I think that I just, I think the academy's going to throw a curve ball here and go
with spotlight. I think a lot of people are underestimating this film. Because I just don't
think this film got the promotion that I think it deserved. And you think they just want to create
Oscar chaos and I'm not going to the Revenant. I wouldn't say Oscar chaos. Because so many people
just why would say I would say more checks and balances maybe spread it around a little bit more.
Not give, not give one film every freaking thing. Because to me, that gets a little bit annoying.
When a film comes in and it's nominated for 10 or 12 of them and they get just about all of them.
Stupid, but we'll be well. But there's been movies that we've loved. It's done that way.
Like return of the king. Got quite a few. Return of the king was political. Like for
him getting shut out for the other two. That's what the return of the king was for me.
And the Oscar tends to do that. I mean, we've talked on this show a million times on how
Denzel Washington wins for training day. We all know that's a makeup Oscar for him losing
for Malcolm X. You know, there's been so many examples of that in Oscar history.
This is going to be a really interesting night. I don't think there's going to be a lot of people
that are going to come out of this and go, went about how I expected. I think there's going to be
a lot of people going all right. Yeah. I want to go for it and back. Yeah. I want curveball after
because at least in it, we don't feel like we're predicting this thing too well.
And we would help that if they gave us a ballot. I'd be more than happy if I don't ask
about it. Make me remember the academy. I'm good with it.
This is going to get fun. I think that this Oscar show, it's going to surprise a lot of people.
There's always going to be controversy when it comes to inventory. Yeah.
I just, I have this, this weird feeling that this is going to be an Oscars that people
are going to be talking about for days, if not weeks and months. And I know we probably will because
I think that since we started reviewing films, I think this is probably the best informed we've
ever been. I want to be going into these guys at all. We've seen so many of these things. Whereas
last year, I don't know if we could have said that we've seen nearly as many as the as an
nominees before the Oscars aired. And we, of course, we have to think our vendors for all that.
Yes. You know, we have some of the best people in the world that give us the opportunity
to see films and review them for the empire to help keep them informed. The fact that we can
say that we had access to all but one of the best documentary features that we, that we could
watch without even having to leave our house is pretty amazing. That's pretty awesome.
But definitely some glaring omissions that that have been talked at Nazium. So we're not going
to cover all of that. I don't think that can't warn them again. But there's, there's omissions
in everything every year. Whether it's all star games or award shows or tournaments or whatever.
I'm just, I'm ready for this thing. I'm ready for this thing to get moving. Let's kick the top.

how green my vote was my value. Okay. So it has the one that fate citizen can. Yeah. So it has
