iTunes Exclusive Episode Tomorrowland

The following is a sooner orgator production.
Oh, it's supposed to do special addition, but I'm the only one here. Boys were
here a minute ago. I mean, the chairs are spinning. I can't be good. I mean, it's not like
the fans that powerful in here. There's this thing on my desk. Looks like a big tea
I'm put there. I'll just move it out of the way because it's sitting right on top
of my keyboard.
Okay, they weren't here, but now they're here. And I'm really, really confused.
Because it was Tuesday, and now my computer is saying it's Friday, May 22nd, 2015,
which means either I've slept for a really, really, really, really long time, or I
traveled through time into the future. This is really, really weird. I guess I'll try to do
this thing. I'm very, very confused. Welcome. I guess I tuned exclusive 103. I guess I'm, I'm,
I'm sorry, I'm a little thrown off right now.

I don't, very, very confused right now. But the boys are at least here to figure out what
just happened in my life. Across the desk for me, his beard's a little fuller.

Yeah, well, I'm used to you wearing pop culture t-shirts, and you're dressed in like this big white
outfit with what looks like an atom on it. It's very fashion forward. Is it not?
Well, I mean, if that's it, the kids are calling it these days. I don't know.

I mean, is it working?
Yeah, I was just sitting at home there, and all of a sudden I, this orange and blue pen, I touched it.
And from the holy inn, I'm sitting right here with you.
Here in the studio, it's three days later. Yeah, I'm very confused right now.
Which is the premise of the film we're going to be reviewing today.
See what I did there?
Irving it around is what that's called.
We are reviewing tomorrow land.
Brad Bird does live action.
Not the first time he's done live action, but it's the second.
If you know Brad, I mean, when I hear Brad Bird, I think of one thing.
The Incredibles.
That's one of my all-time favorite cartoons.
But I think I am giant.
It's the first thing that pops into my head.
Brad Tattooie.
But as far as directing, I think this is a mission impossible.
A mission impossible goes protocol.
Which you think Brad Bird, you don't think mission impossible.
No.
DePaul picks our stuff.
But he goes out on a limb here.
Did you know that he did this instead of episode seven?
I forgot about that.
I do remember that being mentioned.
George Clooney, Brett Robertson, Hugh Laurie,
Rafi Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Catherine Han.
You know what I love about Disney?
What besides everything?
You know what?
We're going to take one part of our theme park and we're going to turn it into a movie.
And they did.
First off, we start this futuristic review.
We got to think our good friends at Susan Jacobs and
Corporated Nicholas Susan and everybody at Disney
For inviting us to the screening of this thing.
We're assuming that they get this in time.
Yeah, I don't know.
But yeah, we got to think our new friends there.
They're incredibly nice people.
So thanks to them for inviting us to the screening.
How long am I supposed to hold onto this thing?
Because I feel like if I let it go, I'm going to be back.
And it's going to be Tuesday again.
You guys aren't going to be here.
I'll just wait for it.

Okay, yeah.
All right.
So here's the bit.
Brett Robertson plays Casey Newton.
She's a kid who's dad, played by Tim McGraw,
is an engineer at NASA who's getting real close to losing his job.
So she's kind of maybe causing some shenanigans that would cause
his job to go on just a little bit longer.
And she winds up going to the Who Scal.
It's the kids like to say.
Do they?
The kids like to say that?
I've never heard a kid refer to jail as the Who Scal.
So when she makes bail to get out of jail,
she's collecting her personal items.
And there's this pin that we're all holding on to right now.
And she grabs it.
And when she grabs it, all of a sudden she's in a completely different place.
She thinks she's just, you know, weakfield moral.
Yeah.
And then she turns around and sees this huge city for lack of a better term
that nobody's ever seen before.
It was completely different.
So she decides she's going to investigate this deal.
And in doing so comes across a young lady named Athena,
who tells her that what she saw was basically where she comes from.
Where Athena comes from.
And the only way they're going to get there is to meet up with a gentleman named Frank Walker,
played by the great George Clooney.
Yeah.
I got the name wrong on the written.
Oh, did you?
Yeah.
I got the last name, right?
But not the first.
Well, once you let go, if you go back to the past, you can just fix it.
Yeah, true.
Yeah.
Give me a pen out.
Yeah.
Right away.
There.
Okay.
And what they find out is.
Frank has been banned from this far away place for building something that he shouldn't have.
And in doing so, he's not a lot of course he's banned so he can't get back in.
But Casey wants in because she wants to see what the all the hub of is.
And the adventure begins because I don't really want to give away too much of this film.
Because I kind of win in cold.
I watched the two trailers and that was it.
Yeah.
Me too.
That was about it.
Outside of that, I didn't really.
I wanted to do a lot of things.
We got to add that there are some evil forces after them.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah.
Wouldn't be a Disney film, but there wasn't an evil force involved.
So let's begin where we begin.
This thing is two hours and ten minutes long.
I'm going to go ahead and say it.
Did not feel that way.
No.
To me, it kind of bogged down a little bit during the driving scenes.
I know it was kind of necessary to get that dialogue out of the way.
Well, let's talk about the script itself, Chad.
Go.
Like you said, it's.

I know I always mess that up.

I'm just I'm just an observer.
See, he's ahead of us because he's in the future.
Yeah.

Disney started this trend with first they built a film around.
A theme park attraction.
A couple of films actually.
You had.
Pirates the Caribbean.
Mr. Toto.
And people thought they had.
The.
The.
The attraction came from the movie.
Yeah.
Okay.
People thought they had lost their ever loving mind.
They're like, are you really that out of ideas?
And then pirates the Caribbean hit and it's a huge hit.
And then they tried a couple of times.
I did the haunted mansion, which I heard they're actually going to do.
They're going to do that.
The rebooting that.
Yes.
It did not do well.
First of all.
It's done the rides.
Let's just do a whole section of the park now.
And I think they chose the right area.
Because it's it's it's right for the picking.
I like how when you look at the.
The skyline of quote unquote tomorrow land in this film.
You see space.
You see.
You see recognizable.
If you're if you've ever been to a Disney park or even if you have it.
If you've just seen film or video or photos of it.
You recognize architecture from this thing.
And for those of you that don't know where space mountain is.
When you look at the one sheet for this and you see Clooney looking at the city.
It's on the left hand side and the corner.
It just looks like a.
It's different like a cylinder of that's kind of slanted at the top.
Yes.
It's not a space mountain.
It's not a steakable.
There's no.
There's no doubt.
That's what it is.
Done.
On the plot.
I thought it really overall flowed well.
I thought a little bit at the beginning right after the.
It's sabotage of the tear down with the cranes and stuff.
That kind of laid a little bit on the storyline.
I thought that was a little too much of what they're trying to produce at that point.
But beyond that, once after that point where she goes on her little mission.
It flowed well.
I like to plot a lot.
There are some points where you have to fall along really good.
And or you might miss something which would be, you know,
get you out of whack and have to, you have to go back in time and you know,
try to watch this thing again.
But overall, I really did like the plot and descriptive it.
I knew nothing going in except from watching the trailer.
And I was really, really surprised and I really did like it.
And I was really into it.
And like you said, it didn't feel like it was two hours and ten minutes.
See, I really disagree with you guys on the pacing here.
I thought it the pacing was perfect.
There was never a time where I was like, okay, where is the chase and how can we cut to it?
Like, I was really thoroughly engaged for the whole film.
But what I think a lot of people are going to have issue with.
And I think this was done intentionally.
We're so used to films build up build up build up huge climax.
This film doesn't do that.
Or it doesn't.
This film tells a story.
It does it need flash bang as much as you might think it would.
The visuals compliment the story, not the other way around.
And the reason I really, really dug this was because it reminded me of those old school Disney movies that we watched when we were kids.
Talking like, which amount?
Yeah, I would.
A huge fan of both which mountain films.
I even liked the newer one.
I didn't love it.
But I liked it the one that that Dwayne Jeroc was in.
Oh, don't get me wrong.
It was only about 10 minutes where I thought I'd like a little bit.
I loved it.
Not for me.
I thought it was it was well-paced the whole way through.
I'm not saying it was bad.
But for me, it was that perfect blend of that old school Disney story telling where they would tell you a story.
And there didn't always have to be the big showdown at the OK Corral.
But there was a lesson there because that's what Disney does.
Combine with that new style of technology.
You're welcome internet.
I thought it was the perfect blend of the two styles.
And I mean, there were times where I just found myself just smiling like I was seven years
all with that sense of wonderment all over again.
Especially when you look at in the first act where they actually tell Clownie's characters back story.
They nailed the style.
Who does the Brad Bird hitting the nail on the head consistently through this old style?
What you said, you were just waiting for Mr. Stark.
As I said, if Howard Stark shows up, I may walk out.
Do they even do that anymore?
Do they even do it?
Will it's fair anymore?
Not that I'm aware of.
I want to why.
Because if they don't, I want to worry about the future now.
But still on 1964.
I mean, because I remember them doing it up and up through the 80s.
I remember them having it.
And I'll shoot where was it?
Well, they did it in America because they did it like it's kind of a very odd cycle.
I don't know, like how often it happened.
It was every decade or every eight years or something.
It was a very odd cycle that they did it on.
But I don't remember the last time.
One thing I want to get into because you kind of have this a little bit.
First off, the action in all that flowed well.
It was throughout.
It was a great mix.
Yeah.

Okay.
I love the looks of this film.
There were multiple looks in styles of this film.
You had the nature shots.
You had the futuristic shots.
You had the downtown cities.
There were multiple looks which really blew me away.
I was very, very impressed on that part there.
Big time.
Again, Brad Bird nailed it.
There's just no other way to say it.
He hit this thing on multiple levels.
It's tough when you can make a, make a film that you're, you're clearly.
You're, you're, you're grounding in a three completely different time.
Frames.
And it works.
And it does.
There was even a little dash of national treasure to it too.
That's what I thought.
Just a little bit.
Just a little, just a smidge.
There were, that's weird that you say that.
We, we talking France.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't want to do it.
I don't need, I'm not either.
I don't need it.
That's the first thing.
That is so weird.
We didn't talk about this.
No, no, no, no.
That's the first thing I thought of.
I'm like, wow.
I'm having a flashback moment here.
God, that's weird.
And performance wise.
I don't know that there's anything that I would say was stellar in this film.
But everything worked.
And I think that's what you really expect out of a film like this.
Because when we came home from the screening,
the first thing that the lovely and talented Mrs. Urban asked me was,
how was Clooney?
It didn't become a Clooney vanity project.
And it easily could have.
But I think he's also at the point in his career where he doesn't have to do that anymore.
He gets to play the crumudgently old man.
You know, from my long guy who then turns into the guy that has the heart.
And let's, let's, his imagination take over again.
I thought he was great.
He brought an emotional weight to this thing that, that, that kept it kind of grounded.
And it, it very easily could have gotten out of control.
I'm, did I miss, did they, the big line from the end of the first trailer?
I don't remember him saying.
I don't remember him saying it either.
Okay, I thought it was just me.
Because you never really see him in that position in the film.
Where he's sitting at his desk with the countdown clock.
No, he was always standing in front of it.
I, I thought his chemistry with Britt Robertson was very, very, very, very well.
Well, he stood toe to toe with him through the whole thing.
Uh, Don's been really, really quiet.
He's gone.

You got to stop that, dude.
Oh, sorry.

But I also want to give a lot of props to Rafi Cassidy, playing Athena.
In my written review at the club has fun.
He has a comp.

She's my standout without a doubt.
She did incredible.
She is in a show that the lovely and talented Mrs. Irvin is all about right now.
Mr. Selfridge.
Okay.
You know her from that.
She was also in Snow White and the Huntsman.
She was the young Snow White.
She was young Angelique and dark shadows.
Which I believe you saw, did you know?
I did.
Okay.
She.
You know her from that.
I thought she was really, really good.
The cast mix will meshed well.
I thought Clooney and also Rafi.
Rafi.
They had good chemistry for being basically a lot of the lead roles in there.
But so I can't really knock the performances at all.
There's nothing really disappointed me.
Like you're saying though, when she played Athena,
she blew me away.
And the only thing that made me go.
It was Tim McGraw.
I didn't realize it was him until the credits were off.
I knew it was him but I was like,
What's he doing here?
Well, it wasn't necessarily him.
It was the character for me.
It was like, we couldn't give him more than this.
Yeah, it was good scene.
He's been by the end of the movie almost about
seven dates of the way through him going.
The dad has not been in this at all.
What's going on here?
Because it's not his story.
I mean, I thought there should have been a little more involved.
I wanted him.
I wanted a little bit more of his character in it too.
Which was kind of weird for me.
But it didn't take away from my pure unadulterated show even in this film.
Which we also got to see in the IMAX,
which was absolutely gorgeous from an audio and visual standpoint.
I just, there's not any bad things I can say about this film.
Chad, I'm starting to have a preference now.
More toward IMAX and a little less for 3D.
I have six of them.
I probably would have.
This may have been enhanced in 3D.
I thought possibly because there were a couple of scenes like at the beginning
and stuff like that where I thought 3D would have put it through the room.
But just wearing the glasses for 2 hours and 10 minutes would have probably crushed my head.
I know after sitting through the Avengers a couple of times,
I'm like, I don't know how much longer I can take wearing these glasses.
And these long films.
Did you also notice who co-wrote this thing?
Yeah.
Who on the huge fan of as well?
Yeah, run down that guy's resume.
Well, let's see.
Got a little something I like to call.
World War Z.
Start trek into darkness.
Prometheus.
Lost.
Do you think he'd go in?
There were a lot of crossing Jordan.
Dude, he wrote episodes of Nash bridges.
Like that sink in.
Yeah.
I'm a huge fan of the dude.
Like, I can't find anything bad to say.
Really, honestly.
I mean, it's it's it's it's a good film with a lot of heart to it.
Um, it's it's a perfect summer film.
Yeah.
I was going to say that was going to be my next question.
Would you actually already answered?
It is a film like this.
A gamble as a summer film versus a holiday film.
Not at all.
I think this would be a good summer film.
My only issue is that it might.
It's good.
I'd say for the fam for the family overall.
But for the six seven year olds, this will be way too confusing.
I can see that.
But the teens.
Uh, the 10s.
The 10s.
This is, this is right.
This is ready to PG.
PG.
Yeah.
But anybody like eight in above.
I think they're really like it.
But you try putting a five year old and try to get them for your what's going on.
They're going to go high.
Oh, that's a gamble for any film over two hours long.
Yeah.
Even if it's fully.
You do have to follow the plot.
You know, in a world.
Little child will have a problem with that.
Even though this film is great for the entire family.
Any else we want to say before we get to the final analysis?
Don't drop your pen.

They were so nice.

Thumbs up thumbs down rankings.
We don't do it that way.

The empire is better than that.
So two-pron question.
Question number one is, would you see this film again?
If the answer is no, then we're done here.
But if the answer is yes, it becomes how far would you be willing to go to see this film again?
Would you pay for price?
Twilight?
Matt Nay?
Early morning?
Would you wait for it to dollar theater?
Would you get it from red box?
Would you show me from Netflix?
Would you watch it on cable?

Absolutely.
How far would you want to go?
However, I had to.
To me, this, this is one of those films that's very, very deeply layered.
There's a lot to it.
There was a lot going on.
I'm sure that if I went back and saw it again tonight, there'd be a ton of things that I completely missed.
That just went right past me.
That I'd be more than happy to sit through it twice.
Dawn, would you see this film again?
I'm kind of in that agreement with Chad that I'd like to see it again because there's
a lot stuff I may have missed and stuff like that.
I would probably see it myself as like a Matt Nay or Twilight, but I will recommend this
for family night night time full price.
This is a good family film that take to the theater.
Go to dinner before it's either movie after or vice versa.
You won't be disappointed.
The teens and stuff are really going to love this too.
So yeah, it's a very great film.
I would absolutely see this film again.
I would say I wouldn't say see it anyway.
You can because see it in a first run theater.
I think seeing a film like this in a second run theater is a disservice to the film itself.
If you have a really nice home theater system, this would probably be worth owning.
I would be curious to see it in 3D.
Yeah, that's what I said in my earlier.
That's what I thought.
I'd be curious to see it.
Because those things are going to be getting with the rocket.
Yeah, you'd be going to be a lot of fun to do.
But yeah, it's more seen like an eye max and stuff.
Big time tomorrow land.

It's a great break from the summer blockbusters that are trying to get all of your money.
