And whatever we do one of these it's usually to review something and today is no exception for you
We are going to be reviewing the brand new film from first-time director
Dustin Marcellino
Called the identical

newcomer and I mean newcomer Blake Ray
Basically this is kind of a what if story
As we all know or maybe you maybe you don't feel you and Elvis was a twin
But his twin passed away very early on
So this kind of takes a different spin on that story

a man to crew
There are there are a young couple in Alabama in the 30s
Basically they have twins and they can't really afford to keep both of them
So what they end up doing is
William goes to a
Tent revival and sees a preacher played by Ray Leota and his wife played by the Ashley Judd and
They mentioned that they're having problems conceding a child
So they come up with the plan of to give one of the babies to them to raise
with the stipulation is that you don't tell the kids
until
Both of them have passed on both of the birth parents have passed on
So they're raised in completely different areas
You know one one kids days in Alabama the other one moves to Tennessee
have no knowledge of each other and then one day
when Ryan is
You know
He's trying to be groomed by his father to follow his father's footsteps, but he just loves music and his father is a priest
preacher the preacher completely to do with this
He's in a record store and sees a record by Drexel Homesley
And he realizes they look a lot of life and so a lot of people start mistaking what him for him and and he can say a little bit
You know and
His lady friend convinces him to enter a
Impossent impersonator contest for Drexel Homesley dream and
He wins it and as a result of it he goes on the road as
Drexel's impersonator
And so they they constantly their lives constantly, you know, they they're they're they cross over each other, but
You never they they never really truly need and that's really really where I want to leave it because I really want
I don't want to spoil too much of the film
I'm gonna kind of bury the lead on one of the things I want to talk about because I did a little homework on this today
So don't let's start with you
First time director Dustin Marcellino very first thing. He's ever directed period end of state now
Or written or written or right the only thing he did was a submit a photography that on on one of the prior film
So he's basically new in this thing. What do you feel about his exhibition for the film? I really liked it
I really
I loved it
For being a rookie director. I mean the only thing he did basically was editor and cinematographer for the last train in 2011
So this guy is stepping into this kind of role of being the writer and director and this kind of big film
I think for first time and he did incredible on this. I I like the look at
Let me start off. I say I went to this film knowing nothing
Okay one thing about this film when it came down to it and as I'm watching it's going on and on
I'm really getting into this. I like to look at the beginning where you see and let's face it
Basically this is kind of like based off Elvis you know the big they just can't say Elvis but
This film was seen this guy's Elvis but we can't say it legally
That shows him going through the cotton fields and then goes to black and white with the parents during the depression and
See how they could go through these timeframes and keep like the cars current for the time and everything like that in all the products around there
I think this director had a ton of detail and I love the look of the film. I Andrew
I'll agree with he did a great job for his first time and you don't you kind of hit on what I want to say is
Yes, he did have a lot of detail and it took an incredibly long time for us to get all of that detail before
Something like the ball actually started rolling and then characters were intertwining with each other. I felt
There could have been a little more movement on actually what was going to happen towards the end earlier in the film
My feeling was it it looked great
For especially as a guy that's never directed anything. I thought the look of the film was very slick very well produced
I think his vision for the story was he hit it dead on he knew what he wanted the story
He wanted to tell and he told that story
Very impressive for a first time director
But I want to talk more about
Blake Rain because I did a little little hold of it. I yeah, I didn't know he was a
Studio musician in Nashville. He was actually an Elvis impersonator. He he entered an Elvis impersonator contest on a dare from his mom
Really and somebody came to do in a studio and was like look
I've got this movie. He's never acted before ever ever ever ever ever and he looked in the credit to the film
His acting coach has a credit in the film really yes
Because when I saw that we saw the film. I was like
Did I just see okay fair enough
Did he sing during this thing? I mean was there's no, no, that was him singing
I'm singing and he did his own singing because I watched through the credits. Okay, that's one thing
I got to look back on everybody did their own singing in the credits
I thought
His performance was amazing
because to play twins
It can be very very difficult because
You have to know that that subtle art form of
Okay
This is one person. This is another person
But I think he nailed it like I was impressed that he treated them like two different characters
You could tell you know when Ryan was on the screen and when Drexel was on the screen
There was never any confusion of which one is this again?
Like they he gave them different mannerisms. He gave them different styles
And I really was impressed with that especially for somebody that's never done any form of acting before
Except act like Elvis

Find it interesting
on how somebody does on their first role or some a kid by the could play two characters in the same role
I mean two different characters in the same film
In this guy for the rookie is do not he's doing two things at once, you know, which I
Really have to give it to him for it. I mean, this is his first film, but he's playing two characters
A lot of actors don't do that even in their whole career in this guy's doing it on his first film
I like to he's acting his mannerisms
He plagued Elvis but not too much to the extreme right?
I've said in my review that it's just enough Elvis to maybe be Elvis but just enough
Not Elvis to not be Elvis or get sued
I was so impressed on his saying this is his first first film and he's seen like he's been on film for 10 years
I mean, he was also in great hands. I mean, if you look at the rest of the cast
Yeah, and I I got to give it up to you know the other one's here saying like the Yoda
I think plays the preacher incredible Seth Green, you know
I really you did your god love just character net enough film. I loved his characters little's it was
I still love my name. My thing with Leo to was and maybe it's just because I've watched
Look at because I'm a huge really out of here. I enjoy his fine work when I first saw him playing a preacher
I was like okay, so wouldn't the other shoe drop, you know when he'd find out he's a crooked preacher or he's and he's not like
There's no other shoe. He's just a preacher who wants the best thing for his kid and you're just like
Who are you and what have you done with Ray Leota? Yeah, you know
That was amazing. I love that it was a good film or maybe you feel good but it got a lot of good comedy
I thought with green and also Joe particularly only him. It's this great show even I mean the serene
He seems in all that with the cops. I mean, it's just if there's a lot of good laughter, but it was in the comedy
But the comedy I think with back to the directing is this guy had a very very good balance of a feel good emotional
Singing music and comedy

Feel that I'll perfectly throughout the film. I thought as your performances. Oh
Well, I'll start off with Seth Green his performance or his role will spot on and he shows up in the most random things
Yes, that's what I like about it. That's what I'm about it. Yeah, and
At the beginning of the movie, you know that about the whole church and kind of like the whole Southern Baptist thing and how that was
That's how I grew up so it hit me spot on. I mean I was hooked from the very beginning because wow
I can relate to one room church house a little middle south. Yeah, I'm like this is me
These are the exact same things I've heard
So as far as that that really made me want to listen like it's more to the movie and I guess the singing
I didn't know that you know
I didn't know anything about it, but no one that was him and this is his first time acting
That's amazing and I loved how they didn't try to make the music Elvis music. They made a very generic
50s and 60s pop and I I kind of liked it better than I like the one of the Elvis and some of them
I know one thing I really the music on this was incredible, but this one that stood out was city lights
Especially at the end there when he saw that stage singing that from the huge crowd as his own that was just like this
This music is incredible in this film. Yes, I was really very much
There's this is a great family film
You know, and another performance that I think was incredibly understated is actually judge performance as
Louise Wade not huge not huge, but but she knew exactly where it had to be and she stuck the landing
There's no other way for me to say it
She nailed this role very great job
And I hope this this film gets the recognition it deserves by some of the bigger academies because this is a small independent film
You know, I didn't recognize any of the studio names when they came up before the film
So you know, hopefully that an order mouth could get this out
I already I'm already putting a word of mouth at all
It was right. I really really enjoyed about this film is again number one the family aspect of it. Yeah, you can take your kids to this and
Dell enjoy it
You'll enjoy it and then you can go kids. Let me tell you about what music was music
You know, let me let me give you the education
Let's put you little one direction to decide
Miley Cyrus
Let's let's put a little mom was in poppies in here and you know, maybe a little crouchy we'll teach some things about music
You know, because I think that we've talked about on this show how a generation is defined by its music really is and
This film harkens back to a time when rock and roll was in its infancy
You know, one of this scene one of the major storylines comes from
From Ryan going to a honky to what they called a honky song
But that was where, you know, people would gather to play rock and roll music because there's no place to do it
And I thought that was portrayed really fairly and and very respectfully
That was the historic part. You look into bar everything was old the cars of the cop cars
I'll do as it went through he was very
You know, my answer on the props and everything like that
So I and it I would I would love to see what the budget on this thing was because the budget was 12 million estimated
That's not bad for a 12 million dollar film that looked beautiful. Yeah, everything was in its place
You know, it's not like I was looking for something wrong with it, but I
Couldn't find it even if I wanted to and I think if I've got to be critical of anything
It's gonna be I felt like we spent too much time
Um
Leading up to everything. I felt that the last third of it was a little rushed
I think a lot of the first time it took a little too long, but it was still entertaining
Right, but I kind of felt like they got to a point that scripture like we've got to finish this thing up. Okay. Do this this and this and it's
It's the worked, but it wasn't a little rush to the end of the time
They tied it up too fast. Yeah, to me. It really the movie really started again
When the hospital scene when he walks into the hospital. Yes, I'll agree with you there
That's where things start to pick up, but you know, you're 45 minutes in a tap. Yeah, and so
You know, it's like I said it's just enough Elvis that you can see Elvis in it
But it's just enough not Elvis and not be Elvis and I love it was a black and white
During that time during the depression and how the look of the film changed over with the yarn too
You give you for this very smart voice from a visual first directing this guy you really know the line in the film was
I mean it was phenomenal. Yeah, I can't say anything
I really can't say it's like you said a little bit rushed to the end of your mind
I can't think of anything bad and it's good for the entire family you get music you get comedy
You get emotion you get good times bad times and it's not over cheesy acting
It's not rushed. It's not drug out. I can't think really anything too bad
It's a about this thing. Well, then gentlemen, let's do the final analysis show me the way we do a final analysis on this show
We don't give you thumbs-up thumbs down. We don't give you a letter gray
We don't give you a ranking because we think audience deserves a little better than that
It's a two-prong question question number one is would you see this film again at the answer is no
Then we're done here
But if the answer is yes it becomes how would you see this film again?
Would you be willing to pay for price? Would you go out of twilight matinee early morning second run
Blue-ray or DVD
Broadcast cable or broadcast television don't let's start with you. Would you see this film again in a heartbeat?
How much would you be willing to have you watch the film again for the life price at nine nine and nine
Which is the full ticket of price? I would say full you could take the whole family to this and
Not be disappointed at all. Let's say full run for the whole family
Andrew would you watch this film again? Yes, I would and I would actually play full price for this because this is something that you can get like not just like your family
But you know your
Answer knuckles and cousins and everybody can just go and enjoy it have a great time
I would love to see this film again. I would be willing to pay full price, but you know how I really would be cool
Get a bunch of people and go see this at a drive-in

Yeah, there's one just about 30 minutes south of where we were our studio is
You know if if somehow this winds up in a drive-in near you go see it there
I think you'd be really kind of fun to see at that
But the problem is the sound with that little thing
We're not be too good. No, you do it through your radio in the car. Oh, do you?
Yeah, you actually the one that's near us you can do either or
Yeah, they they they broadcast it through the radio in your car or they had the little junction box or two
Which is kind of cool. It's called the galaxy drive-in. I haven't been there in a long time
I don't really enjoy going one thing we got to do is thank our friends at allied for letting us see this film
