Joining me in the studio for iTunes exclusive number 81 is the official fact checker of this show.
And a man that does not have blades for feet.
He is, he is, you may know him as Don Ford.

Well somebody in Texas did.

I got robbed.
Normally when we do...
And I tuned six clues of...
It's usually to review something and this particular episode is no exception.
We are here to review for you today.
The latest movie from director Matthew Vaughn you know him.
Most recently from Xman first class.
He's got skins on the wall. That's all I'm telling you.
It is called Kingsman the Secret Service.
It is based on a comic property simply called the Secret Service.
Colin Firth Samuel L. Jackson Mark Strong Mark Hamill.
Do I need to keep going?
I'm just saying.
Basically here's the story.
Colin Firth is a member of Kingsman.
Who are a very Uber super secret spy society.
The basically keep the world from falling in on itself.
They all have code names since it's the Kingsman.
Colin Firth's character is Galad.
They're all night to the round table.
We're near Arthur.
Played by the Great Michael Cain.
That's my Michael Cain.
Yeah.
We started 1997 during a mission where Galahad and his compadry Merlin played by the Great Mark Strong
are on a mission with a brand new member of their society and something goes horribly wrong.
Colin's character, Galahad has to break the news to his family.
In doing so, he gives his friend's son a medallion says,
You ever need me?
Just call this number.
Well, fast forward to the kids that young adults.
He was about six at the time.
Yeah.
So he's now young adult.
Yeah.
And has basically taken on the life of a hoodlum as the kids like to say.
Maybe they don't.
And gets in a little trouble calls the number and finds out about this Kingsman thing.
And so Galahad brings him in as a possible member of the Kingsman because they've lost another one.
That's how it works.
When they lose one, every member of Kingsman nominates a person to replace them.
They do a recruit in a process and all that knowledge.
While all this is going on,
there is an internet billionaire by the name of valentine,
or valentine, depending on who you are,
who is basically secretly plotting to take over the world.
Ish.
Play by Samuel Jack.
Correct.
So basically you're dealing with
the young man whose name is eggy or egzy.
Trying to become a Kingsman,
and you also have the storyline of valentine in his evil plan.
Yeah.
So he's a recruitment training in there.
In the end trying to stop this plot.
Okay.
I don't think the longest movie explanation we've ever done in this show.
But you kind of have to really understand the plot of this film.
Matthew Vaughan.
I mean, what do you will start with him?
But what do you say about the guy?
Go ahead, darn.
We got to think Josh and our best friend.
Our best friends at Allad integrated marketing.
They did a great job with this screening.
You know, fun time.
And Matthew Vaughan has the director.
He's been a producer in a lot.
He's only directed a couple things.
Directed five films.
Yeah.
Examine in the X-Men first class.
Yeah.
Kick ass, star dust and layer cake.
Layer cake, if you haven't seen a very underrated film.
Very much enjoyed that.
Never saw Daniel.
Daniel Craig isn't that.
Okay.
So I'm on the direction and the look of the film.
I like really like the look.
There's some good nature shots.
There's some good city shots.
They did it.
There's some CGI throughout the movie.
But you can't really tell a CGI.
They did that well.
Which is a compliment.
Oh, absolutely.
The effects were great.
The effects were great.
So the look was good for what they were doing at the time.
The plot and storyline.
I really liked it overall.

I put on there.
This is like a spy, a man's film with etiquette.
Okay.
I can see that.
It's a gentle man's film.
Yeah.
You can say it's a spy film.
It's a man's film because a man we're going to, you know,
we're only love this plot.
It's a guy flick.
But it's with a lot of etiquette.
So it's the, you know, the formal James, you know,
like the James Bond.
I'm formal with the Tux and everything.
But there's a lot of comedy through this film.
You can really tell Matthew Vaughn's stamp on this film.
Because if you go back and you watch X-Men first class,
there's a lot of the same kind of sweeping shots.
The violence works a lot the same way.
Although the violence here is a little, I wouldn't even see it.
It's a lot more over the top.
Yeah.
Then X-Men first class.
You can also tell, especially in the fight scenes.
Matthew Vaughn earlier in his career did a lot of work with Guy Richie,
who did lock stuck to smoking barrel snatch.
Okay.
You can see that style and the fight scenes in this film too,
which is not a complaint by me.
Or in any way, shape or form.
I loved, I just loved the way he shot the film.
It gave you that spy movie feel,
but it kind of had its own spin on it, which I absolutely loved.
Yeah.
There's a great balance in story and pacing for me.
I mean, this movie is a solid two hours and ten minutes.
But it was weird as you really felt the time,
but it didn't bother.
No.
You knew you had a lot of story to tell,
and when I looked at my watch and I went,
okay, we're an hour in.
We've got an hour left to do this.
It was nicely pasted for me.
Yeah, I thought the only small critique I could say
was a little bit of it was predictable.
But that's, that's, my only critique I could really find about it.
Yeah.
I loved the balance of the comedy and the action and the general
manist, the etiquette.
This, I put it on, on my written review also.
This is kind of a new spy film and it's in a new category.
They had that Mr. Bean, one that just flopped.
Oh, Mr. Bean's a whole different issue.
Yeah.
But this is something where they try to do James Bond with some comedy
and etiquette.
And I think the mix was incredible.
A good mix of comedy where it's the right amount of comedy,
not too much.
And a poor storyline with the good amount of violence
and all that and brutality.
Yeah.
I just, I just loved how,
yeah.
Sorry, I had to jam for just a minute.
Yeah.
What I love is that it does give an homage to the spy film genre
but still can stand on its own.
For me, one of the things that really shocked me,
this was originally supposed to be released in October,
but the film wasn't finished yet.
When I walked out of this film at the end,
my first thing was you could make this a summer release
and it would still make a money.
Oh, yeah.
But then I realized the genius behind it

You open this against 50 shades of gray.
So guys can still have some of them to go see
on Valentine's Day weekend.
Genius, genius.
I think I said this to you after the screening.
There's going to be a lot of couples who can get spats on saying
which one are we going to see first.
Well, I think you'll get a lot of, I'll go see that with you,
but you have to come see this with you.
Yeah, but they're going to see which one do we see first.
You know, I think there's going to be a lot of people going,
no, I don't want to see 50 shades.
I'm going to go see this and you're going to have some,
but I think that's genius.
Which leads us right into the performances themselves.
There is not a performance in this film.
I did not enjoy seeing Colin Firth
and as I was doing my research for this particular,
I told him to close you.
Colin Firth went through a six to eight month training regimen,
learning the fighting skills and working out,
so he can prepare himself.
Oh really, four of this film.
Absolutely.
But you're German.
This is kind of in the King's speech.
Oh yeah, you know,
and to see him play this Uber spy,
that's just awesome.
Like his fight scenes,
he did 80% of his own stunts in this.
Oh really?
Yeah.
Like the little bar scene and stuff.
And there's a big fight scene right in the middle of the film
and it's church.
Yeah.
One take.
Oh really, one take.
That was one take.
The whole thing, one take.
That shows you,
that alone,
and this fight scene is probably what a solid five minutes at least.
Yeah.
You mean what the,
Yeah, you did.
All one take.
That's what I read on on on IMDB.
Wow.
It's Colin Firth in this kind of a role.
I would never say that Colin Firth could be James Bond
because I think he's a little,
little too rugged,
but he's great in this role.
Oh yeah.
Absolutely amazing in this role.
Another,
Samuel Jackson.
I said he has that Mike Tyson kind of list.
But that wasn't,
I remember we talked about this.
But if you watch this film,
just think Russell Simmons.
He is doing Russell Simmons.
There's no doubt in my mind.
But I just say what comes to my mind.
It didn't think as he just,
you never thought,
seemed to do a role like that.
Well,
and he has a list.
Yeah.
He has a list.
He has something to sayζing to see him do that because he was a stutterer
and had a list when he was younger.
Oh, I didn't know that.
He had a mentor who pushed him into drama
and that cured him.
Really?
Yes, that is a true story.
I've never thought it seems like that.
I've never thought that.
Like the very first take they filmed.
He did it with a list.
And Matthew fonts had cut.
You want to just,
you look at it and just keep that.
I like that ар.
Yeah,
and just the mind games,
that Valentine and Gala had play with each other.
Oh, yeah.
Just when they're both sitting on the screen.
It's really, it's just, it's so-
But they have a lot of money during that dinner.
And it's so much fun.
What would they get for dinner?
Yeah, exactly.
They don't want to give that away because that's not what I'm just saying.
But that, yeah, I'm not giving that, you know.
But if I have to give a standout a shout out,
mm-hmm.

Sophia Putello who plays the-
Exactly.
Because it plays the hint to woman of Valentine.
She was incredible.
She's only been in a couple things, not really anything big.
Well, a lot of stuff overseas.
Yeah.
I think watching her, I think that kind of reminded me of that-
I mean, and naming this character, Gazelle, yeah.
But really, because she's so graceful, her character,
instead of, like, legs from the knees down,
she has these blades that are literally blades,
not like in the Oscar-pastories in one way.
Well, kind of like that, but they're actually,
and they're incredibly lethal.
And she does the fight scenes with such grace.
And very, very well though.
The thing I looked at her once,
she could be this silent,
the entwomen, silent, the lethal lady.
But then she could joke around and get on Valentine.
That's what I looked at.
She had that sense of humor too.
You know, I thought Terran Ederton as Exie was great.
Yeah.
Oh.
And I shy away from saying it,
but I'm gonna go ahead and say it.
I really hope they franchise this.
I really hope this becomes-
See, it's a part of the room of films.
I would really like to see that
because these characters, they're so well written.
And they took some liberties from the comic book series.
Yeah.
Because in the comic book series,
the character of Exie is actually Galahed's nephew.
Okay.
So there's a little- there's the liberties they took.
Mark Hamill is in this movie,
who actually plays himself in the comics,
but he actually has a character in the film.
Yeah.
He's been recognized about first.
Oh, I knew exactly that was, brother.
You know what I was like, oh, I never realized I hate that.
That's gonna be so-
Well, the very convincing British action as well.
Yeah.
There's just nothing about this film
that I can't say great things about.
I mean, this film, like I said,
could be a summer,
they could have released this in June or July,
or even May, and this thing wouldn't be in my pocket.
It's that good.
My thing that the characters
do not overdo the roles or overstep her balance.
Agreed.
They flowed what they had to do in there,
which I really, really enjoyed.
And with the character of Valentine,
that could have been really easy to do.
But Samuel Jackson just knows how to walk that line
between believable and over the top.
And he walks it so well.
Yeah.
And this is not for the kids.
There's a lot of violence.
There's a brief nudity in there.
But I will say that,
the one that seems I loved,
I'm just gonna call it the macho man scene.
Ooh, and you won't talk.
Because the macho man music,
yeah.
The whole theater was laughing.
I'm just gonna call it the macho man scene.
Pump and circumstance.
All out of violence in that brutality,
but it was just.
And it's comedic violence.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Some of it gets a little graphic.
Yeah.
Again, there's a reason this is rated R.
Of course.
I mean, the difference between a PG-13 and an R
from a language standpoint is blown away
in the first 90 seconds.
Yeah.
You only get two F bombs.
Yeah.
The P.B.P.G. 13.
We were way past that by 90 seconds.
And then you have the so the violence.
Right.
It's so, it's not violence for violence.
Yeah.
It contributes to the story.
Some of it makes you laugh.
It does.
No, like you don't see coming.
You're talking about is very, very huge.
It's the timing of it.
Of course, there'll be people that see certain things
and go, yeah, like they did in the future.
I really love this film.
And so the only drawback I could think of
is that the plot was a little predictable,
but that's what spy movies are.
Exactly.
That's the only, that's saying a lot for this film.
There were a couple of moments that kind of took me off.
Yeah.
But I love the twists and turns.
And the last thing, this is going to be released in 3D.
Now, we did not get to see in 3D, but we're not complaining.
Okay.
And certain areas will have it in IMAX.
Yeah.
So I think watching past 3D movies with the macho man scene and the other stuff.
Oh, there's going to be worth the 3D opening title sequence on the wall.
Yeah.
They're doing on the mission and they're throwing bombs.
And as the pieces of the castle explode, it turns into the title on the screen.
I'd say the 3D would really enhance it even when we were reading.
But we're not complaining.
We're not gonna know.
We have a great time.
Exactly.
So I really, really, I can really find my trunk with this film.
I can't either.
I mean, I find it hard to find bad things to say about this film.
There's it, well, there are some things that kind of wish the trailer hadn't given
away.
But nothing that made me go, oh, those were the best parts of the movie.
Because there's so much more to this film than just what's in the trailer.
And these characters, like the girl played Giselle's going, is that the lady from the
fast and furious?
You know, the girl just kept looking like her.
But it wasn't her.
You know, you can see the resemblance, by the way, and that's not her, but it looks like
her.
But she was one of my favorites because she was just so quiet.
It could be laughter, tough, everything.
She had the whole ray and played it right for me.
Absolutely.
Like you watch, you know, the gold figure, the little guy with the, the, the, yeah,
ten say nothing, just evil boom, she could do that, but she had the comedy and she
get on Valentine's.
All right.
So let's get to the final analysis.
The way we do the final analysis on this show, we're not going to give you thumbs-up
thumbs-down, we're not going to give you stars, letter grades.
Our audience, the empire is better than that.
What we do here is a two-prong question.
Question number one is, would you see this film again?
If the answer is no, then we're done here.
And if the answer is yes, how far would you be willing to go to see this again?
Would you pay for it full price, twilight, matinee, early morning, first run, would you wait
for it at red box?
Would you rate for it on Netflix, or would you just wait for it on cable, Don, would you
see this movie again?
Oh, definitely.
How far are you willing to go?
I, somewhere possibly in the theater, because I would like to see it in 3D, but I will
recommend it as either 3D is either matinee, I mean, it's twilight or full, full, full,
for first run.
I would see this again, I would pay full price, note that I would even blink twice, because
this movie is that much fun.
I'd say 3D, I'd say either first run, and if you can see it in 3D too, because there's
so much cool stuff that I think will be in the 3D version.
