You've probably heard the opening song
and said to yourself,
what in God's name are you guys reviewing this week?
When you see the film, you'll understand.
We are reviewing X-Men days of future past.
It is upon us, children.
By the time you hear this,
it is in a theater near you.
Because I believe they are doing Thursday night screen.
Thursday at 10 is when it opens.
So.
First thing we got to do.
Now we have facts.
Big thanks to our friends at Allied integrated marketing for letting us be in part of this screening.
It was.
Well, that's it.
It wasn't a scene there.
They had a thankful.
We can't take them guys enough.
They're with other great people.
There were some of our favorite people in the world.
Brian Singer returns to the X-Men franchise to direct the film.
You can call it the sequel to X-Men first class.
You could also call it the fourth in this X-Men series.
Because really this is the merging point.
I don't even call them both franchises.
Because they're both technically X franchises.
But basically, unless you're.
Unless you've been through geek 101,
let me explain.
20 20 is the 20 23 is the year.
And in that year.
Sentinels, which are robots.
That are sent to kill mutants.
But unfortunately, they're not just killing mutants.
They're killing anyone who has the potential to kill birth mutants anywhere in their bloodline.
Well, what we find out.
Is some of the X-Men that are scattered amongst the globe.
Mainly Kitty Pride and Bishop.
They find out where these attacks are going to happen.
And then Kitty Pride sends Bishop back in time to warn the team so they can move to a different location.
And they've been doing this for years.
Enter Professor X.
Play about course the great Patrick Stewart.
And he says, well, why don't we fix this once and for all?
And somebody sends somebody back 50 years to 1973.
To fix this.
Once and for all, because the reason that the sentinels come to be.
Is because.
Ah, I'm sorry.
Because of trash industries headed by Dr. Bolivar trash played by the great Peter Dinklage.
Mystique in the past played by Jennifer Lawrence kills him,
which motivates the government to let the sentinels happen.
They capture her.
They use her DNA to make these super sentinels.
And I can basically adapt to any situation.
And they're just killing everything.
If you thought sentinels were bad before.
Right.
So Kitty Pride who handles the time travel.
Says.
There's nobody that's got to.
I can I can send them back maybe a month ago back that far.
There's not.
It would fry their brain.
Enter Wolverine who says, I have a healing factor.
I can do this.
And his brain is pretty much already for a.
Brother bin through some things.
It's all I'm saying.
So she sends him back to 1973 where he has to reunite both Charles Xavier and Magneto.
Played from Peter from Xman 1st class by James McEvoy and Michael Fassbender.
Because together the only they can.
Make this thing right.
And we go from there.
First of all, I would like to say the following.
Brian Singer.
I forgive you for Superman returns.
Okay.
You went off and you had your little fun.
Now it's time to come home and do business.
And you came home and you did business.
We will start there.
Singers direction.
Chad.
We will start with you.
Oh, return.
Yeah, return to form.
Thank God.
Oh, absolutely.
I mean, because he's, he's had a string of.
Not so good films.
The Superman debacle notwithstanding and his.
Miss step last year of Jack the giant slayer that landed with the thud and went nowhere.
Thanks.
We're not looking good for Brian Singer.
I was, I was afraid he was going to turn into the next Shamalon.
Well, you're looking bad for him right now.
It's different from that.
This is true.
This is true.
I'm trying not to even think about that.
But.
This was a huge, huge.
Very storied.
Well, story to take on.
For lack of a better word.
I mean, it's, it is a beloved story in the X-Men canon.
You, you would not get both agree on that.
Again, it's geek 101.
Yeah.
You know, if you're, if you're any form of comic book geek,
you know, you at least know what this story is.
If you know this, as far as the X-Men goes, you know this,
you know God loves men kills, you know executioner song and dark Phoenix.
And then the dark Phoenix saga.
And that didn't get handled so well.
But then again, that wasn't necessarily singers fault at that point.
It was in somebody's hand.
It was for it.
Yeah.
So since we say, and we're not going to revisit it.
I hope I could only hope.
But we need to have one of those reboot moments.
And I think this film does that.
Oh, yeah.
If it's the bad taste of X-Men united out of your own,
no, why stand?
Last stand.
Yeah.
And X-Men united with shaky too.
Yeah.
But I agree with you.
It was kind of like singer went, oh, man, I shouldn't have done that.
Yeah.
This thing really got out of hand.
I got to get control of it.
Yeah.
Well, he had to redeem himself on multiple levels.
And I would say he succeeded on multiple levels.
I mean, not only were you able to write the ship with your original franchise,
but you managed to tie it in with a brilliant reboot if you want to put it that way.
I mean, how would you define first class?
First class.
See, here's the thing with first class.
And we'll get to that in a minute, because we've got other guests in the room.
Don, I want to go with you on singer's direction.
I was kind of afraid with this B Terminator part two.
And in some aspects, it kind of is where it's just another go back in time and try to change time.
But the story is so much more than that more in the depth of that.
I like the look of the film, the special effects were incredible.
And one thing I love, which this movie did, that I was wondering is going to be like a Star Wars film.
There's a little bit of action up front.
A bunch of talk, blah, blah, blah, blah to the big action at the end.
There was action, action, action, action, action all the way through.
You saw mutations using their powers all the way through.
The mutation is the process.
But the mutants using their powers all through this movie, which some of the
X-Men movies have liked in the past.
Also, they had a great feel, I think, with action.
Great, some great comedy.
All I'm going to say is this is the Pentagon kitchen.
When that hits, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Great comedy, but I think the direction was good start to finish a full
film of people who want action.
You will not be disappointed people who want to see mutants, just
their powers.
You will love this.

I guess I want to touch on point.
I think there are a lot of good subplots in there that really drove the movie to
where there's a lot of what days of future past is.
There's a lot going on there.
I think you just open the doors to where the next one's going to be even better.
But overall, yeah, I think the direction of the film.
Perfect spot on.
He almost couldn't miss though.
The story lends itself to just follow the story.
For me, days of future past is one of those things that there's no doubt in my mind when
he announced this.
That this was going to be the next film.
I believe the San Diego Comic-Con two years ago.
Yes.
He had to be dealing with a lot of.
Dude, don't screw this up.
Yeah.
Don't screw this up.
And because it's one of those stories.
If you're going to take it on, you better be full-born.
And he did.
You know, he ties everything together.
I wouldn't call this.
First class for me wasn't a reboot as as much of it was.
Let's have a little bit of fun with this.
Because I've said a million times.
If you've never seen X-Men first class, do yourself a solid.
But leave your geek brain at the door because it will fry.
Because it's so far out of continuity.
It's almost back in it.
However.
But I think singer did a great job because for those of you that haven't done the research.
One of the writers on this film is Matthew Vaughan who directed first class.
And one of the consultants on this was Chris Claremont.
So wrote the original comic story.
So you have everything in place.
However, I saw first classes more of a sidestep.
I wouldn't say they did it with the intent of setting this up,
but I could see how they would have.
Right.
The performance is you can't.
You almost couldn't go wrong.
Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy,
Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence,
Holly Barry, Anna Pacquan, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage,
Sean Asmore, Omar Sai, Daniel Kudmore,
I mean, it's the list goes on and on and on.
For me, a couple of the standouts,
Boobu Stewart playing Warpath.
Dead on, perfect.
Being being fun to play little blank.
Tell me 20 years ago, I'm going to see blank in a movie.
No kidding.
And I'm going to tell you, you're out of your fracking mind.
They even worked the minor characters in.
So well, it was just, it was,
you couldn't go wrong.
Oh, played.
Again, for those of you that don't know really this into our show,
I'm the responsible for the music bed and no one else in the studio knows what's coming.
But, you're welcome internet.

It just, the way the movie flowed,
the performances virtually flawless.
And one of the things that I said in my written review,
which will be featured on www.theclubhousepodcast.com.
Jennifer Lawrence owns Mystique.
Yes, she does.
And if you don't believe her, she will show you.
She was incredible in this film.
Not only from just,
you can tell that there was very little stunt work use
at a lot of the fight scenes were her,
but she sells the anger.
Like, you believe she's fixing to take somebody's head on.
She can get a look at her eye.
And even those eyes are wearing black and yellow contacts.
You're fixing to lose orgasm.
You know what I'm saying?
You see rage boiling behind those eyes.
My, my standout.
Peter Dinklitch.
Game of Thrones.
This guy, I haven't think could do any wrong.
The reason I don't give him a standout,
is because with Dinklitch, you know what you're getting.
It's not like, I mean,
I've watched, I remember when this guy did a movie called The Station Agent,
which is brilliant.
I've been a fan of this dude for the better part of two decades.
So to meet, I mean,
I respect your opinion.
I'm going to respectfully disagree because
when you put his name on something,
you know you're getting greatness from him.
You know he's all in,
and you know he's all over it.
When you, when I first saw him,
I was like, okay,
and then he did not,
does anybody could have a bad movie?
But this guy,
no matter what he's done,
his track record in this movie,
he is a standout character.
You think you could get,
you know, real evil in the game of Thrones,
and you know,
kind of been people backwards and doing this guy
was just,
I think,
the government's villain to the T.
I was impressed.

I think the on screen,
I guess,
camaraderie between Jackman,
McElvoy,
and Jackman,
and,
No, no,
well,
fastmen are in,
the old execs.
Oh,
Patrick Stewart,
Patrick Stewart,
I think that is just,
it's just phenomenal.
I mean,
you see that student teacher,
mentor,
protege relationship with the two of them.
I agree with you very, very well.
And that's gone back to the,
if you can believe,
X-Men was 14 years ago.
Exactly.
Yeah,
that throws me a return,
I think about it.
You know,
Kevin Smith said something on Fatman on Batman recently,
when they were talking about Captain America,
the winner soldier.
I am so happy that I lived to see this.
Yeah.
That,
you know,
when we were kids,
we all sat around,
and we said,
well, if you didn't X-Men movie,
who'd you have in it?
Well, first of all,
you've got to have a billion dollars,
because you got to pay all these stars.
But, and then,
and, but it makes me wonder,
because I'm almost afraid to go back
and watch the first X-Men.
Because I never knew that tonight.
Two was shaky.
Three was terrible.
But so it makes me think,
where we so starged for X-Men at that point,
that anything would have made us happy?
No,
or will that movie hold up
the better part of 15 years later?
I can let you know whenever I see you again,
because I'm going to watch it again,
and I've actually got X-Men 1.5 there.
There,
kind of,
Oh, with the extras and stuff,
the rest of the stars,
I was going to watch that tonight.
I actually was going to watch it last time,
but I was just dead.
I think you should watch first class,
before I don't have the first class,
or later night.
Because first class,
first class was so good.
And,
well, first class is still fresh in my mind,
but the original X-Men is kind of,
you know,
there's a little distance there.
Right.
And I actually saw a recently a picture
of Jackman posing as Wolverine in the first X-Men.
And when you look at him in this movie,
you're like,
good.
God, what is this guy doing?
Yeah.
To be that,
it was ridiculous.
His veins had veins popping off of them
when in that scene where he wakes up at 73,
I was like,
God.
And I thought,
It's ridiculous.
I thought framing the film
in the time that they did,
the 73, they sold it.
Good as does his hairstyle worked well
in the 70s.
But they're right in.
But those sideburns, especially.
Any stand-up performances for user?
Jackman.
I want to throw out Evan Peters.
Quicksil.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Let's be clear on something.
That it's quick silver.
You're going to see in days of future past
is not the quick silver.
You're going to see an Avengers age of Ultronix summer
because one's Fox and one's Marvel Studios.
And that kind of hurt my heart a little bit,
not to see Marvel Studios just to see Marvel.
But Fox has to make their money too.
And I also want to say this.
A friend of the show Dev and Pike,
who were huge fans of.
Once made a statement of 3D never made a movie better.
Never made a plot better.
The 3D in this film worked.
It's worth it.
Because it wasn't.
Ooh, there's stuff coming at you.
Ooh, there's stuff coming at you.
It was used for setting scenes and for ambience.
So there was depth to the picture.
Again, the Pentagon kitchen scene.
Exactly.
It's incredible.
It's incredible.
We were really can't go in a detail about it,
but you'll understand when you see it.
And you will never hear time in a bottle the same way again.
What is it with my entertainment ruining songs
from my childhood?
You know, W.W.E. is doing something in the background.
I'm ruining it.
I wouldn't his hand.
I wouldn't come hereay to that.
This movie does it with time in a bottle
and the first time I ever saw your face,
I should every time I hear time in a bottle
I'm going to think that scene.
I'm going to want soup.
Because you know me.
I'm a big.
Yeah, I'm not I didn't know that actually crotchy fan. Yes, I mean that's one of the reasons I love invincible
So much the opening scene is I got a name by Jim Crotchy. Oh, yeah, oh, I forgot it. Yes, it is
I just count that song because that's that's not indicative of the greatness of crotchy but I'll roll with it
So let's get to the final analysis. I mean
For those of you that have never listened to in
Attunes exclusive before it's a two-pronged question. We're not gonna give you a rating
We're not gonna give you thumbs-up thumbs-down
We're not gonna give you stars. We're not gonna insult your intelligence empire because that's not what we do
What we do is we ask two questions question number one is would you see this film again?
If the answer is no then we're done here if the answer is yes
Then the second part of the question is how would you see it again? Would you pay for full price for it?
Would you pay a twilight price for it?
Would you pay a net net net net net price for it?
Would you pay and first thing in the morning price for it?
Would you wait for it at the dollar theater?
Would you read it from red box because God knows blockbuster doesn't exist anymore?
Would you buy it on blue ray or would you wait for it on table? Or would you wait for it on broad cast
Television and Drew we're going to start with you if you don't mind sir.
Oh, first question. Would you see this film again? Yes, you would okay. So
In what environment would you see this film again? I am interested in seeing this film in I guess the 2D perspective
Okay without 3D just to see how much at what time of day?
Probably around noon because so you would pay for it in an early morning show. Yes, okay

But showing it's to us in the Dolby Atmos
Which this is the third film I've seen in Dolby Atmos
I saw Man of Steel was it start track and this one. Yes, okay
So those are the three films and it's it's totally worth it
166 something speakers in the theater. Yeah, there's speakers in this ceiling. I think they implant one in your
Sproom and walk and it's amazing so you would see it again at a at a early morning show
Yeah, well, that's just kind of what time I go to the movies in general
But let's just let's take that out of it though
Would you pay for it? Would you pay for price for it?
Definitely yeah, okay, because that's that's kind of where we're going with this is yeah, would you be what would you willing to pay?

Yeah, anyway, I can get it. I would take it. I mean I put this up there with with the Avengers is in in my opinion
Wow, I mean this this is a pretty high bar. Well, because it delivered on every level and you you brought
Kind of brought two franchises together it depending on how you look at it done. I think this movie
Gave the old school in the new school the perfect amount of showing in this movie
I cannot say I cannot think about anything really bad in this movie at all so you would see it again
Definitely how would you see I would
I would probably see it in 3D Twilight, but I would recommend it full price 3D you name the showing just like Chad
It is worth seeing the 3D
And no thing to everybody there
Stay till the after the credits. There's a little tag. So to Empire you deserve this awarding
Do not leave when the credits start. It's worth staying till the very end after the credits and like you said earlier
We got to take your friends and out like we can't take them enough. They're they're so good to us
There's no way I'm not gonna make this a clean suite. I would absolutely see this film again
I would like to see it in an IMAX 3D. I'd like to see the difference
If it's showing an IMAX the reality why it wouldn't
I thought that the 3D is the best way to go definitely
I would go see it right now like I'm gonna venture to say of the X films

Like first class this this this days of future fat past and first class. It's one in one eight in me right now followed by one two three
And maybe if I go back and revisit the first X man I might change my mind, but I don't think I will because
This movie I'm not gonna put it on the level of the dark night because to me that is the bar
Yeah, the dark night is the perfect super hero film. It is flawless on every level in my personal opinion
This is close like this is this film is striking distance to the dark night for me
Now my Batman bias probably pushes in a little bit further, but that's impressive for this movie to do that though because there's
So many more characters that they have to be spot on and the pacing was good. I was never bored
I never felt like where is the chase and how can I cut to it exactly action all the way through?
It is it's a solid it's a little over two hours two hours in 11 minutes, but doesn't seem like it
Because they they paced it so well and that's really what impressed me the most
Was the pacing of it yeah because you had so much story to tell which I think is where X3 fell short
They tried to tell too much story in too little time. They tried to do too many story lines
Days of future past stuck to the script stay with was they the course and told the story well
And I think it had the perfect mix of old school characters and the you know the first class characters to the perfect
I can it's so did up really really nicely. Yeah. All right. Let's do the plug gentlemen
