night, it is 8 o'clock on the east coast, it is 5 o'clock on the west coast, it is season
two episodes six, on the 19th August in the year of our Lord 2011, we welcome each and
every one of you to the clubhouse with Robin Cody live on you stream or in the archive
or in your portable device, wherever it is, my name is Rob, the electronic voice you're
about to hear is that of Cody, hello greetings, once again from a undisclosed remote
location in East Texas, oh are we in East Texas now, a lot of stuff going on, definitely
for sure, if you're a Miami hurricane fan, you may not want to stay here around an hour
to, well I know we've got one at least in our viewers, our listenership, I don't know
he'll be checking in tonight or time, but it has been very, very quiet from the hurricane
nation today as it were, but again we will get to that later in the show, if you follow
us on Twitter at clubhouse WRNC or if you could follow our Facebook page, you know
that tonight we're starting things a little bit differently, so wrestling fans, we hope
you're in the room now because we're going to cap off the show, not cap it off, it started
off with that after we do what we normally start the show with, little corrections,
we do have one, like we technically have two, but the other ones more of a revision than
a correction from our breaking sports or a new standard from last week if you know I'm
talking about, but the only real correction we have this week and this came from somebody
that was at our remote on Sunday, we want to thank everybody that was at Fox and Hound
in Richardson for SummerSlam Sunday night, we will do it, it was one of the guys at the table
just to my left is your face in the crowd, we talked about Kings one day title run
being at their SummerSlam 97, that is incorrect, he won the title and I thought I was wrong
on this, but I threw it out there anywhere because that's how I roll, it was actually
him winning a title in the first blood match at King of the Ring, oh yeah, 98, was that's
the member when wasn't too long after this, that Shivani had the quote, what is this
strange red substance falling the new blood, the new blood, yeah, so yeah, because the
right, strange red, red liquid because they could hold blood, yeah, I'll never understand
it, but remember when four nonjigs were international objects too, I've never, I've
never been able to put my finger on why we put that belt on cane way back when I never
understood, he did it in the last 24 hours, but there's that, but that's our only
charisma's correction we've had in a while, so, you know, I've done this break the
straight, but the the streak of what now, 57, 58, 52 and 658 straight Tuesday night, slowly
approaching 60, distance, technology and nothing can handle us, that's just what we do,
but we are, like I said, we are going to start with wrestling talk today, so let's jump
right in, couple of big headlines that the one really big headlines that's come down
in the last couple of days, we found this out last night as silent rage Andy Levine winner
of top enough has been suspended for a wellness policy violation, what is this kid
thinking?
Uh, we, we see the thing about, the thing about some of these, these wellness
things is we really don't know what the violation is, you know what I mean, it's up to
the superstar to actually disclose that and if it's nothing, if you've got nothing to be
ashamed of, then tell us what it is, yeah, that's my whole thing with some of these
wellness programs, we really don't, it's tough to really figure out right or wrong, okay,
this was something a little bit out the ordinary, because everybody automatically thinks
cocaine, they automatically think steroids, there's other different situations this
could have been, but either way, not a good way to get your career kicked off, brother,
I'll tell you that, absolutely.
Also being suspended, referee, my kioda, this guy is your senior referee in WWE right
now.
I always remember him for getting into an on camera in character altercation with Jeff
Jared, it's summer slam, but he kept yelling, you're screwing me kioda, you're screwing
me, but this guy's been around forever.
So that's why you saw a lot of Scotty Armstrong and Little Naked last night on wrong, because
kioda's out for 30 days, talk a little bit of impact, who told Mickey James it was a
good idea to wrestle in full blown cowboy boots, she's pulled it off, man, I can't walk
fairly in cowboy boots, if that's what you call what she's doing, but yeah, I don't know,
man, obviously, no, there's, I thought there'd been some other performers in the past
that should maybe try that bit once or twice, but I mean, you've seen dusty do it or
dust in or what, but, but the thing is, users usually in gimmick matches or matches
where they're not doing a lot of work, you're knockout division is carrying your
company right now, so you need the quality of those matches to be better than they are,
and it was, of course, her wearing these cowards was real monkey, oh, of course, very
monkey, and I love Mickey James, also the other person we called this for the last two
weeks on this show, Angle does go heeling, says that Hogan was the guy that's been telling
him all the things that have been going on because Hulk Hogan's the only person that has
his best interest in heart, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
I just, this is the best you've got right now, it is, it this is just what the business
is at, you know, it's where it's at, you know, Hogan will always be there, be name,
it's what he is, you know, Chad also letting us know that Jenny got a WWE try out under
their old name as the young bucks, so here's another tag team, Vince can destroy, congratulations.
I mean, I like the kids, but they're, to me, they're prototypical hearty boys back in the day,
that's weird for me to say hearty boys back in the day, but anything older than 10 years
and that's old school and they were talking 98 99 for them. Let's talk about what happened 48
hours ago, sir. As summer slam, we were live from Fox and Hound, we thank everybody that was there,
you were there, I was there, what did you think over all the paper?
Um, I thought the opening match was ridiculous. Why, see, we found out that there was a dark match
where Ziegler wrestled Alex Riley, but for the opening match of a major, we get an unannounced
six man tag. It was like, okay, if you're not on the card and you're interviewed, we'll
put you in this six man tag match. That the face is why it was Morrison, Ray was involved in this
thing, Del Rio, Archruse, who were the other two, do you remember? Oh, Kofi Kingston, Kofi and Morrison.
Now there was one more heel. It was Del Rio, it was Morrison, Ray and Kofi versus Del Rio,
Archruse. Archruse. Well, because his big, his big, his big, uh, his big, uh, awesome thing was already
up there. I'll tell you this right now, you had to get, you had to get, uh, you had to get some of
those guys on the, on the, on the deal. I mean, you get them, you get them a major paper if you check,
but do the divas get a check for dance and around seal of green. I don't know. That was, that was
law. That was way too long for me. And well, what's the reason that we brought in Stephanie? I see,
and you and I had this discussion Sunday night after the paper view. Are we setting something up
for down the road? Are we going to, as we'll talk about it, when we talk about raw, is she behind
this whole thing trying to make triple H look behind this whole thing? That was just a weird bit for
me. And as, as, as great as she looks, she is now starting to age. Yeah, but it was very, very,
very, very, very, very strange the way that she, all of a sudden, jumped on the scene and then
was leaving this thing and this thing and it just, I don't know. Very strange, bad booking. I think
once again, I think when this script was written, nobody knew what the hell they wanted to do.
Well, you and I talked about a couple of weeks ago how there were six different versions of raw
written before they went on the air. Is this the same? Are we just writing multiple versions
and, and working in the WWE like a choose your own adventure book from when we were kids?
Yeah, it was very, very strange, uh, booking. And I think this was very evident at the end of this
paper view when you had Kevin Nash come out. And as you know, the Sam punk wins with a foot on the
rope. And then it was, it was just very weird. All of a sudden, all the people in all the
world to be standing in the middle of the ring would be Kevin Nash who comes out power bomb
CM Punk. Next thing we know, Alberto Del Rio's cashing into new WWE champion.
What I liked about the follow-up though was how John Cena and CM Punk was said, like, we're not
mad at each other. We're just mad at everybody else. I kind of like how they played that. Yeah.
It wasn't you screwed me or you tried to screw me. It was like, I know you didn't do this.
But I also want to talk a little bit about the world heavyweight title match. Orton, Christian,
no holds barred, but last time I checked, no holds bar didn't mean no deq. Well, that's,
nowadays that's commonplace. That was weird for me. I'm like, should these guys have been
counted out by now? But nowadays that's booked is commonplace. But I'm sort of matched that was
better than it had to be in my opinion. Yeah, in my opinion, I agree with you. It went a little too
long. I think you knew from the get-go when Edge made appearance that Christian was going to win.
We'll see. I thought that at the edge would end up, you know, somehow screwing Orton over. I
thought by him not coming back. It was a weird bit for me. Of course, your dad is saying Triple H
asked him, but he could get on the plane. So that's good news. It's good. I just, if you don't have
the momentum of CM Punk Cena in that angle, this match is your headliner. Yeah, you're right.
Because, again, it was better than it had to be, it's just like, but it's SmackDown is just
getting buried by two guys right now. And their names are CM Punk and John Cena, which if
ever there was a case for getting rid of the brand separation, what Roy is doing to SmackDown
right now is it? No doubt in my mind. Well, then, and then you go into tomorrow night.
Tomorrow night. Or to last night. Okay. Okay. You go into last night to where
I kind of think Del Rio needs a little bit of a run. You know, you and I talked about this
earlier today on the phone and I absolutely agree with you. But the problem that we're going to
face. And I said this, if you remember, when the paper view went off the air, I said,
here's what's going to happen. Night of champions, this turns into a triple threat. Yeah.
Because after last night, of course, Rey Mysterio gets his title shot that apparently he demanded.
I didn't even know that until you told me that on Sunday night. Yeah. Um,
because he demanded on www.com apparently. But with these with with that match ending the way it did,
Rey Mysterio loses his shot. We think now officially he may be written on television.
But we're not sure we thought that last week too.
Now you're setting up both of these guys have a legitimate complaint to get their title shot.
So I think night of champions. It's a triple threat. Yeah. One quick note off of
Raw. We know we both noticed that our truth now has steam music. He does. And it's his
old theme music slowed down a little bit with no vocals and a guitar. And Chad actually pointed
this out to me last night that it starts with him by saying the truth has set me free. But the
Titan Trond still says the truth shall set you free. So I don't know if we haven't, if we forgot
to update the video. And then we let us follow week we go later on to where we have the miss
barring with Jared from Subway. I mean, my first thought and I wrote this in the run. She is,
who has this guy hacked off? But the more I thought about it, and you and I talking in pre-show tonight,
maybe this is the way we keep him on TV until we think you're out. What we're going to do with it?
Yeah, I just don't think they know what's going on. No, what's going on?
Anything that goes that that's not a world title or a WWE title is backwards for him at this point,
unfortunately. So do that. Just send him to SmackDown and maybe we have a miss Orton feud.
Yeah, you've got that going. So you've you've so built him up touring down
within a matter of four three or four months. It really has to me. It's poison the well a little bit on the
miss being on roll. So I think it's just there's two stacked. We finally see something. I didn't think we'd
ever see it. Well, we do have a question in the chat room as we go into this next point about Chad saying
he's worried about a new McMahon Helmsley era. I'm starting to wonder if it's not going to be a
McMahon Helmsley era. If it's going to wind up to be a McMahon versus Helmsley era.
I could be. I don't know. It's it's too soon to me to really know what's going on
with any of it. And like we talked about earlier, too. Maybe they don't know.
Yeah, maybe they're just kind of throwing stuff out there and see where this thing goes.
As we go down into the deal and we go further into raw. I see something I didn't think I'd see ever again
is. There's to Kevin Nash and a WWE ring. And not as diesel as Kevin Nash. He's showing the age.
I just I don't know if they have a place for this guy. No theme music. Okay, I just I don't know what the
the strategy with Kevin Nash is going to be. And I don't know what that's going to be.
And he comes out. Of course, see him punk. I think CM Punk's new video looks great, too.
Yeah, it waste his old stuff. One thing I noticed, Nash apparently now is going to the
Scott Steiner School of Promo's. It's very short sentence. It's very short bursts,
vocally. It was very weird for me to see a guy who I've always regarded as one of the great
promo guys in the business to absolutely get run around by CM Punk. I mean, CM Punk rents
circles around him. Nash is going to do it every night. Just having always had a different
style. Yeah, no matter who he was in in there with, it has a different style.
You know, that's just how he was. But if we're going to do this triple threaded night at
champions, do you just kind of do this bit until then? Yeah, I think so. Because I'm very confused,
excuse me, uh, you're almost overbooking in two angles. Because you've got the CM Punk wants the
belt, but then you're putting it with this Nash thing in the middle of it. But then the lack of
there has it, you know, it's been so bad. Yeah, this is just very, you, if you're WWE creative right
now, and I agree in the chat room, grow the full stash or just shave the whole thing. The John,
John Waters thing freaked me out. Uh, if you're WWE creative, you have to be very, very careful,
not to book yourself into a corner to borrow a phrase. And I think that's what they're dangerously
close to right now. Did you watch this Jack Swagger match? No. Jack Swagger is doing his deal with
Alex Riley with a Ziegler and Vicki at the, at the broadcast table. Swagger botched the finish twice
before he got it right at their time. Go back and watch this match. It's terrible. God has had a kid,
got that on his mind. I hope that's what it is. I'll give him a deal on that. You're giving me a
emoji. I'll give him a, yeah, I'll give him something on that. And you know, I like the promo he
cut afterwards. Tell him, tell him, Vicki, hey, all the great managers had multiple clients.
True. But hey, that's a good thing for her if she can get more than one person she's managing. Yes,
but we would love for you to join us live at Fox and how next month on September the 18
can't wait for it. Not a champion. It's the fifth major. At a champions,
champions will be their live, pre show as usual starts at six. And we will be on the air,
sixish about that time. Could be in a new room, could be the old room, had had a bunch of people
show up up on Sunday and had a really, really good time out there strong crowd. Thank you,
everybody who came out and joined us on Sunday. We appreciate it very, very much. And look forward
to seeing you. Make sure you join us. We like to be, we like to interact. We like to meet the people
that we don't normally see on a regular basis. Yes. And if you're in the chat room right now,
I noticed that there's a lot of people viewing the show or listening to the show right now.
Jump in a chat room, ask us some questions. Don't overload us. But ask us some questions.
And we will answer your question on the air. As best as we can, as long as it's pertaining to
what we're talking about. Yeah, I mean, don't ask me the meaning of life because I'll tell you
it's 42. But you are listening to the clubhouse with Robin Cody. We're live each and every
Tuesday night on you stream at eight on the East Coast five on the West Coast. If you miss any
part of or the entire show, they are archived immediately after we are off air. It's up and running
within probably about five minutes. You could also have our show in your portable device,
go to our website at www.theclubhousewithcoady.com and click on how to get the show in your portable
device. It's kind of a roundabout way. We are working on getting iTunes straightened out with this thing.
Ready to move on? Ready, sir. With we go into a segment that starts off with one of my favorite
songs we play on this show. It is time for NASCAR talk. Kind of a late kind of a kind of a
we actually had NASCAR on a Monday, which is something he don't just see a lot of as something we
need desperately here at Dallas Fort Worth area hit up state in New York. As a lot of rain,
rain enough to wash out the event, held at Watkins Glenda Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon.
It also strong enough to rain out the Yankees and the Mets, those scheduled to play at home Sunday as
well. Mark, what I got to, what I got to, to Foxon Hound on Sunday and I was getting us set up with a
free show. It was raining cats and dogs at Watkins Glenda. But Marcus Ambrose is your winner at this
road course. Like we explained, if you listen to the show last week, this one that you're oval,
roundy, roundy, roundy, top racetrack. This was a road course with turns and bends and sharp corners.
So a little bit different racing as far as you think of Talladega Daytona here at Texas Motor
Speedway. You're kind of getting a different style of racing. A lot of different racers showed
up in the top 10, but some of them that we like we told you, there were going to be some household
names that historically done well. These tracks, Marcus Ambrose, a course your winner, Brad
Cowslowski last week's winners in second. So he's put to back back to back weeks of very
decent runs for a guy who had struggled from the getting of the season on Kyle Bush, followed by
Martin True Ex Jr. Joey Legano, Kevin Harbick, Juan Pablo Montoya. AJ Almadinger, Jeff Burton,
Jimmy Johnson. Another weird thing that came out is we have a little bit of a frackess going on.
Yeah, you had it got you had a biffle for a set. Why you don't know the name for a set.
Boris said is what you call a road course specialist. All he does is race road courses. That's
what he does. He's kind of what you call a hard gun. Might be the better way to say it on this.
Yeah, hitting Greg Biffle got a little chippy. To me, it looked like they were both in the wrong.
I think to me, if by first glance, I thought Biffle might have been, I don't know,
rub its racing. We all know that I thought Biffle might have been a little,
I don't want to say a little out of control, but I thought to hit the way,
the way he ran the race at that point was a little, was a little over the line.
In my opinion, but let me ask you this. If you're Greg Biffle,
and he comes out this set, this set guy comes out and says, well, he was giving me the bird.
What not? Give me your address. I'll be at your house. If you're Biffle,
aren't you happy to go? You know what homes? You want to run your mouth? Let's do this thing.
Yeah, and you know, that's one thing about NASCAR is the nine times out of 10,
the emotions are so high with these type of races. It's unbelievable. These guys, it takes a little
bit to get tipped off. Also at a sponsorship standpoint, when you're talking about driving around
at a $5 million or $10 million piece of equipment with some of these NASCAR's run,
it's just, it's unbelievable. Some of the pressure on these guys, speaking of pressure,
Dillard Hart Jr. was adamant that he finished 14th and said a 15th and Monday
sprint cut race at Watkins International. NASCAR didn't agree. Dillard Hart Jr.'s 15th place finish
will hold up in the record book. So, Jr. appealed. NASCAR said, no way. So, Jr.'s 15th place finish
will hold up. Can I go off on off the page on you a little bit here for a minute?
Uh, some that you thought of, and it's not, it's a question I have. I don't know if you've
done the homework or not, but you're going to know better than I. We talked about Watkins
going to be a road course as you've explained. Is there a ratings difference on a normal
track, and there is, are you more people tend to watch the road course? I think for the NASCAR
purists, I think NASCAR fans are NASCAR fans. I think they're going to watch,
whatever. Okay. I just think that's, they're just going to watch if it's racing,
we're racing, because you also hear NASCAR fans are in a drag race and in a motor cross
into anything that's got an engine and two or four wheels brother. They're involved in it.
They enjoy it. They like it. So, for me, because as a casual, you know, if it's on,
I got nothing going on. I'll watch, but I try to pay attention because that way,
it's not just you talk it through the second minutes. That's interacting as we do on this show.
I think I would be more inclined to watch a road course race. It's different. It's different.
If you, like I said, if it's a picture cup of tea, it that's
deal. For me, I don't like it, because I'll be, I'll be, I'll see, I like the, the
pure, the racing aspect of it. I'm really not into the, so you're more of a NASCAR
purist. I like, you grew up on the sport too. I'm also big into, I like the classic tracks.
I like Daytona. I like Talladega. I like Bristol. I like Richmond. I like some of the old NASCAR
tracks that the sport really flourished on and really became a big sport on the circuit track.
Because they're actually talking about this on the ESPN news right now.
Weird. It's really nasty. But I'll always to ask you, just to put in a proper
framework that people that listen to this show. How old were you when you watched your first race? Do you
remember? You know, I, I got into it later. I wasn't a kid that just grew up on it. My dad,
and my dad kept up with it just, just a little bit. Probably, I was probably in high school when
I really got into it, because let's be honest. You only had three races that were televised.
ESPN televised Daytona. And they televised Talladega, which at one time was called the old
Southern 500 NASCAR. Now saying they are not anticipating penalties for either Biffle or said.
So, so that's coming down on on the news right now. But current right now, sprint cup
standings as we speak. You've got a tie a top of the leaderboard as Carl Bush and Carl Edwards and
Carl Bush, excuse me, are both tied at number one followed by Jimmy Johnson, Kevin Harbick,
Matt Kinteth, Kurt Bush, Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr's move up to move up
for the first time in about seven races. He's moved up a spot to ninth in points. And so that 15
points finished in turn. Yeah, you had some guys ahead of him that didn't do so hot. So it helped him.
Hey, nothing on that. Yeah, Antonio Stewart now in your 10th place, which is that the cutoff
clip warrior is your 11th car in the sprint cup right now. Getting kind of, you know, we're
getting time to really start watching where these top 11 drivers at in your standings for the
chase because it starts extremely extremely soon. And that night at Bristol Motorspeak, for
some reason, they picked one of the craziest tracks to start that on. As actually, I take that back.
We're going to start it in Chicago this year. Okay. Okay. Sunday, September the 18th, as we're
at Fox and Hound, NASCAR sprint for the chase will start in Chicago land. But next week,
we're at Michigan for the pure Michigan 400, the last place, Dale Earnhardt Jr. won a race with
at this track. Michigan kind of a run of the meal, oval speedway. Okay, let's play flashy. Don't
expect a lot of the, there's going to be a wreck every Sunday. That's just NASCAR.
Don't expect a lot of your, let's all get five wide here. Let's start drafting or let's, that's
not one of these tracks. This is kind of your typical roundy, roundy, brist cookie cutter tracks.
I don't know who, I don't know who's going to win. I think Jr. and I'm talking Jr.
you got to have a top 10, Tony Stewart. If you want to stay in the chase, which I think Tony Stewart
missing the sprint cup would be a, would be a bad omen for that team that he owns. He's got to
get in the chase. Tony Stewart missed it last year. He's got to get in the chase this year.
I think there's more pressure on Tony Stewart making the chase than Dale Earnhardt Jr. in my opinion.
Those two guys, but from here on out, from from August 21st to September 10th, as we go from
Michigan to the Richmond International Speedway. He cut off night, Saturday night, under the
lights in Richmond, Virginia, you're, you're last night to get in the chase for the cup.
From here on out, if I'm Jr. Top 10, if I'm Tony Stewart, top 10, because you're going to
four good racetracks for those drivers. Michigan, Bristol, Atlanta in Richmond. Junior's one on
all, Junior's one done well in those tracks. Tony Stewart has won it all those tracks.
Those are two guys I'm keeping my eye on as we get closer. So you're saying not necessarily
start winning races, but at least get that single-digit finish. Yes, I just, I think I'm not going
to say win the race, but you at least want to be one through 10, because you're not killing yourself
really a one through 10. You can at the end, if you can not have at the end, if you're Tony Stewart,
are Dale Earnhardt Jr. These next four weeks are crucial to those two guys making this chase.
Like I mentioned, once again, Sunday, noon on ESPN here in Dallas, and if you're in the central
time zone, pure Michigan 400. This is when these next four races are going to be big races.
You'll see a lot of rub and a lot of race, a lot of guys where fifth place means something
over sixth, third means more than fourth. You're going to start, that's placing themselves
in order to make the chase. True. Great segment, sir. Well done. As we, we're going to move on and
do a little bit of music talk right now. I didn't realize this until this first point until
later in the day, today 34 years ago, tell him baby. Elvis passed away 34 years ago today is also
Madonna's birthday, which I think is weird. That's a strange combination for me. But it's hard to believe.
I guess, yeah, that was four. I think I said this last year when this about this time.
You know, there's a lot of people. There's a lot of singers. There's been a lot of bands.
There's only been one Elvis. That is true. Debate it. I mean, it's, I'm looking it up.
Guys, I was the game changer in the 50s. I mean, he was. He changed the game.
First one with a plane. First one with a big house named after somebody.
He was just Elvis was one of those guys. He revolutionized music forever,
movies, music, and the guy still is today. He's been dead 34 years. And kids, my son,
those of those who Elvis is. And I think generations to come, although he was, I can tell that
if you look starting in the 50s, there was that one person or that one group that revolutionized
everything. He was that guy in the 50s. If you don't have Elvis, you almost don't have
everybody that comes after him. Yeah, I'll even go 60s to you with you.
Said to me, the 60s, the Beatles. Yeah, the Beatles were the game changers in the 60s. But Elvis
carried that career into the mid 70s. So, I mean, yeah, it's like you said, debate it.
You can't. You can't debate the greatness of Elvis. I know there's a lot of people don't like
Elvis's music. I actually am an Elvis fan. There's certain errors of Elvis. He, I don't like
1950s Elvis. You don't? You're a hero. Oh, I don't like, you like the gold lemme suit?
Yes, I like Vegas Elvis. I like 60, 68 come back special. And you know, that was pretty good.
Him as a leather. I like the Elvis when he got, uh, got out was he does the army bit,
and he kind of matured a little bit, not only as a man, but as an artist. The the
hell dog and all that stuff was gone, uh, suspicious minds. Son, we can't. That's a great song.
You're not going to hear me. That was, that's, that's the the era of Elvis that I like.
So, sad day. Yeah, I'll agree with you there as well, except, I mean, wow, just the way he was
found though. Yeah, that was that. I just, I don't know, it's kind of a weird. It's, it's like they say
either Elvis guy or a Beatles guy. I'm kind of a little bit of both. My wife's huge Beatles fan.
I'm good. I recognize greatness as it is. The thing about the Beatles and I don't want to be a
dead horse here. I'll just mention this move on. I think the Beatles also, you know, Elvis and the
Beatles did did two things that that they a lot of artists can't do or what do, or as afraid
to do was they were afraid. They, they, they, they changed their bit. Yep. You know, the Beatles went
from the mop top to Sergeant Lonely Peppers. You know, the motion peppers only hurts club
band, but that was their own choice. Yeah, and then yeah, but no, no, and nobody made them do it.
The record label didn't make them do it. No, that was conscious choice and I thought it was a,
if for some artists, it works. And for some, it doesn't. Elvis went from jailhouse rock to,
you know, opening up the Las Vegas. Now, the Las Vegas Hilton, at the time,
yeah, I kind of lost my track on Sergeant Lonely Peppers. I don't know what I was doing.
But, uh, yeah, as Elvis opens up at that time, the Hilton International.
At that point now, I'll state in that hell, so that's a great hotel, by the way. Yeah, both
those little two artists to me that was able to change the bit and they never lost momentum,
they just kept going. So, I like that chapter, Sergeant Lonely Peppers sounds like a text
mixed place. Funny, and open it. And then Thursday, or I'll come drink in your bar if you open
Thursday, night's flash Friday morning. We find out that the death of warrantly singer Jayney
Rain found dead in his hotel room Friday morning. As of an hour before show time, we still do not have a
cause of death. Want me to sum it up for you? Does it have to be said that? Because I think we all,
we all know what's probably got potential for what actually happened. I was talking to my wife
about this the other night. It's kind of like the 80s are now catching up. Yeah, it's weird because
you know, and I'm wasn't a big fan of warrant. I mean, let's be honest, cherry pie, not a lot.
Well, yeah, I thought they had some great hits, downboys, Uncle Tom's cabin,
the aforementioned cherry pie. I saw red, heaven, got somebody in the in the heartroom of
chatroom says as heart stopped. But that, that one person I believe would be your dad, sir.
Yeah, man. But yeah, not a big on that. The warrant was decent. There was just so many
bad bands in that 80s era. There were so many bad bands. I mean, let's be honest,
outside of the crew, and I know Metallica was doing different stuff in the 80s. Bond,
Joby. Bond, Joby's changed the whole game because they had certain metal into something
happy, and which nobody was on board with. It's a warrant. It's just another rat. They're just
another white snake. They're just another. They recorded the album after cherry pie. Two blocks
from my dorm of college. No, they were a doggy dog. So, good bye, Janie Lane. Then we had this incident
this past weekend at the Indiana State Fair. For the second time in two months, we had it happen earlier
with Chief Trek in Canada. Now with the Indiana State Fair Sugarland gets ready to go on stage,
60 mile an hour winds go through the Indiana State Fair. This stage collapses. Have you seen the
footage of this? Oh, man. Could you, I mean, that thing just grumbled. That was, and supposedly that
was a local contractor that built that in a local inspector who inspected it and actually cleared
it to be able to be on the stage. Well, I don't know if you read this article that came out
earlier today. They interviewed Sherlock's road manager right before they were, that they were
cleared to take the stage and play. She held them back for 60 seconds. That 60 seconds is when
everything happened. So, she lets them go on stage when they were cleared to go. We might not have
them anymore. For the five people dead 40 injured, four of them died instantly at the scene
the fifth one died later on at the hospital. This is a horrible thing, but let me ask you this.
Now that this has happened twice in a matter of two months, is this going to lead to change or
I mean, is this an industry that needs to be regulated more the state fair performance
staged? Is that an industry? The state fair to me, the state not the state fair, but I mean,
let's be, I'm going to take it to what I know. I don't want to get real local on people that
might be listening or listening an archive that aren't from Dallas. You know, that stage that they
have it fair park, but they do that usually it's one last year it happened to be Chevrolet.
Yeah, Chevy's had glass couple years. Yeah, where Chevy actually has the stage and people perform
and it's different. I mean, it could be anywhere from hip hop to country to rock to even had some
Spanish groups every weekend. Every weekend, it's not somebody new. That stage to me looks like
it was professionally built. Yep. I mean, this to me, before they have a little overlooked kind of
shiny to me. It looked a little unstable. We do have a question the chat room and this is more
you than me. Did they perform at the CMA event that was Sunday night on ABC do you know? You know,
I don't know the answer to that because I'm not really going to award shows that I don't
consider sugar land country. Okay, so that was not something I would know. I don't, I don't
remember to CMAs were live this year or not. I forgot they were on until Chad said something to me last night.
Okay, they were saying if they were scheduled to appear, I'd imagine they made it. I didn't hear
they did. Okay, so we'll just roll with that again. The speaking of award shows, we are
less than two weeks away from the MTV video music awards. It was announced early Monday morning
that they'll be doing a tribute to Britney Spears. Are we at that point? Next. Yeah, moving on.
And if you watch the trailer commercial for it, or they announce it, it's everybody else's music
they're playing in Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, all these other people but her. So I got nothing.
Also, read this today. If you know what Barney's in New York is, it is a very, very popular,
very, very upscale department store on Madison Avenue in New York City every year. One of the
big attractions is what they have. They decorate their windows. This year, the Sam has workshop display
is going to be designed by one lady Gaga. Big deal for her and they're giving her and not only
the display window but an entire floor. She'll also be selling limited edition items of that show
that of course I said she will be designing that will be for sale and the money will go to charity.
As long as everybody's, as long as they keep it clean in those windows. Well, let's not,
let's not trick it up too bad lady Gaga. Let's not lady Gaga Santa's workshop.
That's all I'm asking. She won't. I've seen some of her videos. That's all I'm saying.
Only one big new release this week and not even a big new release. Very slow time for the music
industry as August. Breaking Benjamin who right now has had two of the members of the band
fired by the lead singer for doing an unauthorized remix of one of the albums off of this album,
called Shella Boy. It's a best of a breaking Benjamin. Their best known for something called
so cold, which I'm a big fan of also having a acoustic version that I'm quite a big fan of.
And that's all I've got for music unless you've got anything you want to answer. I don't.
Let us move on. Yes. Boy. We were, we were having a little bit of a ADD issue on Sunday night.
Where are we not? Beyond we headed, you know, the UFC had a free fight on on during the
thing with that spike versus versus. Excuse me. Now also we are we reported to you earlier in the
month that versus will become NBC sports. We found out that actually we're rolling commercials
for that. Yeah. Great. It's been. I watched this Monday morning. I was trying to concentrate on
Summer slam and didn't want to IDDR this. So it didn't kind of distract me. We now you've been
watch hockey and UFC and that's probably pack 10 or pack 12 football. Well, I'll talk about that here
in a minute. We do want to acknowledge during the broadcast they found out that trainer Sean
Tomkins had died of a heart attack and he was a candidate. It was a heart attack and the
statements came from his brother-in-law stand stout in Ontario. This was a guy that was very,
very popular throughout the industry. One of the guys that does the post show for that UFC
on versus the guy that sits in the middle. He said that when he was just an up and coming reporter
it is very first MMA then he ever attended as a reporter that Sean Tomkins came up to him
do who he was and how to set how much he admired his work. This was a guy that's beloved in
the industry and our deepest go out to his family. This is a guy that's working with people like
Randy Kitsur, Victor Belfor, and Wanderley Silva. He also developed people like Marcommonick and Chris
Horrodeki. These are guys that that people are people know. So this was a guy beloved in the community
and a loss for the MMA community. Yeah, you know, I didn't really know a whole lot about it. I'm
not going to claim sitting here claiming to the guy's resume or anything like that. But I, uh,
man, it was a loss. I read a little bit about that on Yahoo, got some news today from our
MMA correspondent Mr. Ron riot. Yes, I bet though I thank you out to him. Do you see it him on
Sunday night? Yeah. The UFC channel looks like it has received a green light.
Maybe maybe not. I, uh, I don't know. I don't know. I'm shocked that Dana White has beat
Vince McMahon on getting a getting a channel put together. This article that came out late today
from the MMA torch. What we thought was going to be the UFC network now not going to be the UFC
now. The G, the G, the G, the G, the G, the G 4 is off. The UFC has signed a
90 million dollar per year multi-year agreement with Fox.
Basically what this means is four times a year that UFC will be doing events on network television.
Here in Dallas for worth Fox 4, we'll be doing UFC events four times a year.
That's starting this year. Didn't we do this with CBS and it did, that was strike force.
Yeah, it did great ratings. And they did with like, I mean, they call it 39 fights or something like that.
I did, we stopped. Why didn't somebody else just take the torch to excuse the fun?
When that was, when that was done, why didn't somebody just jump up and go,
hey, Dana White, we're going to fill this spot. I'm not saying main event guys.
I don't think you put paper of you quality matches on network television.
But you could at least get some guys that people care about seeing.
Now here's the kicker though. Part of this deal, the UFC is moving. The ultimate fighter
from Spike to FX. Hey, in, you know, Spike better. They better do something with impact then.
And now I'm sure that this season because they're already advertising this season.
So it won't take place until the the spring season for ultimate fighter.
But it is moving to FX. Now what this dominate the male demographic because they've already got
big. They've already got college football debut in this year. FX will do two games, three games.
So do a 230 a night and then a late night pack 12 matchup. Now you're getting now you're going to
get UFC on on FX. And also this also basically breaks down the negotiations of them buying out
G4 because G4 is an NBC property. Yeah. So so that's now we're talking maybe we're going to
go somewhere else with this UFC network. Um, you know, Dana Dana's one of those guys we've said
on this show before probably will say it 100 times. For such Dana right now to me has the
mightest touch. Everything he's touching right now is turning to gold. He's turning to gold.
And network and everything I've read he's a very, very smart business man. Now I mean,
everything he seems to be getting involved in is working. It's making money. It's generating
interest. It's generating fans. That's what a lot of these sports need to look at. To me, that's
what at times. I think how baseball it may be hockey in this country has lost a lot of interest.
But you know as and as that that parlazes into this UFC on versus there's a couple of things
that came out of this that maybe I'm not so on board with. But then again, I'm not Dana White.
We talk about a mere Sadawa loses to delay. Duane will look wig in a welterweight fight on a unanimous
decision. I decent fight, but not great. The cowboy Donald seroni takes Charles all of
there to the wood shed gets knocked out of the night. Did you watch, I mean, this fight where he landed
that shot to the solar plexus. That hurt me and I was watching it. You know what I'm saying?
That was one of the most solid solar plexus shots I've ever seen in my years of watching boxing
and MMA. That was in round one and then Ben Henderson as a lightweight beast,
Jim Miller on a unanimous decision on a fight that this guy dominated. This wasn't even close,
but I do give absolute props to Jim Miller. This guy hung in there. He had a solid first
half of the first round and then after that, I mean, it was just all over, but the crying.
Then you get to your main event as Chris Lido and what we found out was to be his match. His fight.
He now, now listen to this. 20th fight. There's only five guys that have that many or
more fights in the history of the UFC. And he's had almost 50 fights outside of the UFC.
So it's not like this guy just came and went. He was a tap out, Dan Hardy tops out in round three,
got fight of the night and submission of the night. Lido has got more of the fight of the night
awards than anyone in the history of the UFC. Also, here's the thing that kind of makes me go
really, but I'm not saying a lot of people are saying, Hardy has now lost his fourth fight in a row
that they're saying his future in the UFC is in jeopardy. Yeah, you know what, and I think,
I'm not trying to do any of our say, you know, put anybody on the bus here. To me, man,
the bit, to me, he's a bit fighter. The Mohawk, to this that, yeah, there, it's just a bit with him.
But he's popular. He's very popular, but you got to win. Dana wants winners, winners equal money.
I don't care what sport is, whether to basketball, football, college football, baseball,
people, gravitate towards people who wins. If you're losing, nobody's going to buy the fight.
Nobody's going to watch the fight. And here's my other thing, though. I'm only calling it three
fights in a row that he's lost, because one of them was GSP. And anybody beat him right now. That was
very young in his career. UFC won, well, 13. I believe it's not that wise. So, I mean, this was,
and this is how it went. I thought it was a great show overall. Kind of commercial breaks for
real short. So, I thought it was a well put together show that they're second one. The next one
will be October the first on versus. And that's going to be a good show. I'm looking forward to
this paper. We're doing away from Saturday down there in Rio. That's going to be good. A lot of rumors
about a horse, Gracie, returned that night. I think all those that need to be put to bed. If that's
the case, I agree. Come out and say her down. You are listening to the clubhouse with Robin,
Cody Live, each and every Tuesday night, eight on the East Coast, five on the West Coast. We got
the Imperial March plan, which means it's time to talk movies. Wow. What happened to the Greeks?
Yeah. What happened to Glee? Glee fans. What happened to you last weekend? As the Glee 3D
IMAX experiences grosses a whopping $5.7 million at the box office. Oh, my god. This thing has a
two week run. You know a week. Everybody's trying to do something. The agenda. Okay. Okay.
But you think about that. That made 5.7 million. And I don't know if this is a fair comparison
with this and the article I read. This isn't what they compared it to. When Justin Bieber's never
say never released an IMAX, the opening weekend 30.3 million. Man, baby remains for it's a nature.
Is that a fair comparison though, Glee to Justin Bieber? No. You know, I mean, and then
only doing like I said, they're doing this Glee movie for two weeks. And then that's done.
So you better hope you make a ton of money on Blue Ray with this thing.
I don't know that if it's if it's a sign of what's to come with that show, I think that show
is still a ratings juggernaut. But man, yeah, this was a bad idea.
Kevin Smith, one of my favorite directors, one of my leaders is the kids like to say.
Has decided his final film hits somebody as now going to be a two-partner. This is a hockey film
based on an old war in Zeevon song. Going to feature a lot of the actors he worked with in the
upcoming Red State, which has a brand new trailer out. It is not for the faint of heart.
Red State is not hit somebody. I haven't read enough about the script of trying to keep myself
a little bit in the dark on that one. Starting to worry a little bit about Kevin Smith. I'll be honest.
Is he is he lost? I might as touch. I don't know that he's lost. I might as touch. But I think
he's trying to do too many things at the same time. He's got this internet radio thing,
plus the podcast thing. He's trying to make this movie. He's I understand he wants to stay
diverse and he wants to stay relevant. But I'm worried that he's putting too many irons in the
fire and quality of suffering because of it. I mean, let's be honest, cop out was not an Oscar winner.
You know, and that was at the first movie where he really got a big budget.
No, no, no, no. I mean, for he is the first action film he ever directed. There was time
I directed a film he didn't write. But dogma had to have a huge budget if you see that.
Yeah, visually alone. So, there's that. Also, we found out late. This came down late today,
right before I sent out the the run sheet to you. Bradley Cooper has left the remake of the
Crow as playing the Crow. Yes, sir, paying the title character due to scheduling conflicts.
This movie is being directed by a Juan Carlos Fresno Dio who directed 28 weeks later.
That was zombie flick in it. Yes, it was a sequel to 28 days later, actually.
Possibly replacing them. The two names that have come forward, chanting Tatum,
known for GI Joe and Mark Walberg. Okay. I don't know if either one of these work for me.
Yeah, scrapped it. Chad's right. Jansson, Bob strikeback probably had a pretty good budget on it as well.
New releases in your movie house this week. I'm going to skip the first one to come back to it
because it's the only one that's got a rotten tomatoes rating right now. The remake of
right night, but our friend Devon Pike from RealGenius.com. R-E-E-LGenius.com is seen as we are on the
air. He is at the local North Park theater. See a screening of this film. It is of course a remake.
This has Colin Farrow and Mick Lovin in it. Go figure. This just does nothing for me.
The horror genre has never done anything for me. I'll be honest. Also this week, we have the
newest installation in these Spikids franchise. Spikids all the time in the world in 4D. Because
we're right. You talk about going old school on this. You're right, Chad. I guess that just a minute
I forgot about that. You're going to get a card when you walk in the theater and it's smell
a vision. That's cool. We're kicking it away old school. Joel McHale and Jessica Alba playing
this one. And Conan the Barbarian. 80% on Rotten Tomatoes right now with Jason Mo Moa who was
in Game of Thrones earlier this year. If I got nothing going on, I got to cash my pocket.
I may check this out. Not 3D. I think the only movie right now, but I want to say I will go see
it 3D is going to be Spider-Man next year. Also, Chad's right. We talked about this last night.
Um, I don't know if you read about this, but the the loan ranger is now off. Good deal.
The budget had already passed $250 million and we haven't started pre-production yet.
Good. And it made. Also, couple with that the failure of cowboys and aliens,
they were trying to do the same thing with the loan ranger how the reason he has to silver
but what is because he's hunting where wolves that are part of a Native American curse.
I wish I was making that up. I really really wish I was making that up.
Uh, unbelievable. So, thank you Johnny Depp for not doing this. I this could have been
a career killer for him. I could have really believe this. I just don't know if you can make
the loan ranger relevant to this generation. Probably not. But I bet they're glad that
they got through cowboys and aliens so they learned that. DVD and blue right new releases this week
priest came out earlier this year 17% on rot tomatoes. I may check this out if I got a minute.
I don't know that I'll always maybe I'll wait till it comes on stars or something.
Something borrowed. This was that bride wars knockoff bottle. Your your wife's not going to
make you watch this thing. No. Okay. Also, hoodwinks to hood versus evil 11% of rot tomatoes. I
really thought this might have been cute. But apparently I am into my sword here on that. And if you are
someone who wants to watch what was a great paper view tomorrow or today on DVD and blue right
WWE money in the bank. This year's money in the bank drops today. Check it out. Great paper view.
Great, great, great paper view. Unless anything else you've got in movie news there. How
do not? Let's do it. Let's do it. Just real quick. The Hall of Fame was this past week. Two notable
names. A lot of people would know. Of course Chris Mullin, member of ESPN's in studio group now.
But they had dream change in the golden state where you had. Of course your your
beyond, I guess you would say your your your your super star in this class. Dennis Rodman. Now,
I am ashamed that I am lacking in my being a respected member of the media like we are.
I am ashamed that I neglected my duties and I did not remember to record this. Did you see this?
I saw the speech. You know, it wasn't things, you know, you expected. He was actually not
dressed. He had on a coat. That was cut almost like a a captain's jacket. You know what I'm saying?
Almost like a guy. You might see Captain Morgan in. Oh, like a pirate thing. Kind of,
maybe I'm describing it wrong. But in a had a on each shoulder, it had all the years that he
won titles. One one arm was Detroit. The other arm was Chicago. So it was pretty cool.
Had his piercings in. He didn't look as wild. I think it was a waist coat. Yeah. Oh, it was a waist coat.
Yeah. Okay. Thank you, Chad. Yeah. He didn't think that he didn't think that I think a lot of
people thought he'd come out make up and really he didn't he actually for on for Dennis Rodman. I
thought he looked very modest for dinner trying to Google it. Let's be honest here. We're talking
Dennis Rodman. You know, the thing about Dennis Rodman to in my opinion, I'll be honest with you.
If I had a top 10 all time basketball players, he's on my list. Really? I don't know, a 10 all
time. You got to think man, he was a guy. He revolutionized. I'm looking at a picture of
things. You know, if that's not as as garrishes, I thought it was going to be in my head. Yeah.
Looks like he got a little emotional. Yeah. Looks like a little emotional. He was talking
about he didn't play the game to get money. He's an individual and he thinks the fans were
so good speech course, Phil Jackson inducted him, which I thought was really cool. Dennis
Dennis is a game changer. I think he to me, I would put Dion and Dennis Rodman almost on the
same plateau, same planet on the field. Dennis Rodman revolutionized the the beaten and banging
under the boards for rebounds. He revolutionized doing that. There was nobody better in the game.
Well, he was that guy that if he was near you, you would the other way. Yeah, and I don't mean that
like he's like a freak as well, whether when he was on the court, you were going to get level.
If you had no choice. Yeah, but he found a way to get the basketball off the back of the
rim of the miss shot. What did it do? I mean, he's not a he's not a score. He wasn't going to give
you 30 or not. But if he could give you a 10 with 12 rebounds, nine times out of 10, you had a
pretty good shot to win that basketball game defensive beast defensive player. The bulls
probably don't win as many of that that third day win the first one with without him. I don't know if
they were able to win two more without a player like Dennis Rodman. Because the bulls had gotten
to old and a lot of positions at that point in time. Of course, Detroit, remember the bad boys
him, as they had Thomas, Joe, Joe two bars, Bill and beer. Those guys, I mean, the bad boys.
And for those of you that maybe weren't watching the NBA or maybe maybe just back then,
maybe you didn't watch the NBA. Dennis Rodman's going from Detroit to Chicago was like Johnny
Damon going from Boston to New York. Yeah, it was just a real weird move. But Dennis had also
had a short swim through San Antonio. Yep, right there. Right there. Yeah, he also went from Detroit
to in San Antonio's kind of where the outlandishness started with Dennis. And he's local,
Skyline Husker. Oh, he was the skyline here. I did not know that. That's all I got basketball,
but he had slow. Oh, I just, I'm not going to get nothing but slower. Oh, did you hear about the
China thing? Yeah, I heard about that. Just apparently Kobe offered a million and a half of
month, but they're also trying to put a policy in the Chinese basketball association that says
if any of these NBA players come over, they cannot return to the NBA until their season is over in
mid March. I don't know how, how well that's going to fly that may work out like a
a foreign church, but that's just me. Let's do a little bit of TV news. If we may,
this is the only thing I come up with TLC because we're about to talk about the network
I apologize and advance. Uh, I thought, I'm so sad. Oh, that's why he was briefly a
fabric for that one year. Dennis Rodin, we're talking about Johnny Kate plus eight, which then
became Kate plus eight. Done. Done, but I thought this was done when they divorced. I mean, am I that far
out of the loop? I don't know, this show was even still on the air, but TLC has said,
no more sue for you. Tell them, saying, uh, then there's this stuff. Somebody that we refuse to
refer to by name on this show. And I don't think, uh, I don't think that that's accidental,
but the, the lady who was on trial last month, that was all over the news that apparently has
hidden somewhere in Michigan and TMZ still found her. Her parents are going to be interviewed by Dr.
Phil on September 12th. Justin, and you know what, and he will strike them a big check. The
and what's bad is the victim in this case is slowly, slowly, slowly, slowly get more and more
forgotten about. Yep. And that's whole thing that really irks me. And it's the day after the 10th anniversary
of September 11th, the best time to do that. About her and her family and where she's at,
who's bankrollin her. I'm so tired here about that woman. I could scream because the victim in this
case is a one that's totally getting washed swept under the rug. Travesty, but that's America.
That's kind of what is kind of country we're in now. Sorry. Ugh. So I had to say about that.
And on this next one, brother, I thought you might be the history channel getting ready to do a
mini series. Bill Paxton is on one side of this thing. Kevin Costner is on the other side.
It is called the Hatfields and McCoyes and American Ben Data. And do you have an air date on
this yet with this one? Like, I was trying to find it and that they haven't even put the same
before cameras yet. Okay. So it's a lot. So yeah. So I love Costner and Westerns. I think that's
where he does his best work. Of course, dance with the grass silver rado, open range, love Costner
and a Western love it. And doing one about the Hatfields and McCoyes, this is kind of
a mess. Yeah. And I know you're ready to, you're ready for this if I'm not. I've lived some of that.
You're all over. Oh, well, I heard some of that. So I'm saying it on that. But this is going to happen.
This is this is a science hill to deliver. So I'm looking forward to this. Right now,
Chad and I are trying to take some time and get through the John Adams mini series that HBO did a
couple years ago. Great. If you haven't seen it by the way. That's all the TV news I've got.

I'm going to do it. I'm doing a favor. Skip this next one. Oh, really? We're not going to do
any. We're going to hold off on that. Hold off on that. Hold off straight straight to person of interest.
Straight to person of interest. This is a person of interest, but an entity of interest.
You know, and I'm not going to get those little some disclaimers out there on this. If anybody
is a filet with this group. I'm going to let things come as they may. I really have not.
And I haven't tweeted a whole lot about this story with Texas A&M as of yet. I haven't done a whole lot.
I think it needs. Let's wait and see. But I got a question for everybody down there in
College Station. I was going to let you go. Who in the hell do you think you are?
Apparently they think they're in the SEC. Yes, who in the world who does A&M think they are to
strut around an act like two conferences are going to one, beg them to stay, or two,
beg them to come join them. And that's why I put on the run sheet.
A&M jumps the gun again. Yeah. You know, and I'm not, you know, I, I didn't go ahead. I'm sorry.
I think I've got for a second. Yeah. A&M to me is a situation to where we always laugh and
a lot of teams have a little brother syndrome. Michigan State, Oklahoma State.
You see a lay to me does it times. This is the ultimate. I've never seen a little brother syndrome as bad
if I, as, as I'm seeing it now with with Texas A&M and the, the, the whining and the crying,
the complaining about Texas and Oklahoma, and they don't get enough exposure, and they're always
going to be second filled behind. Yes, because you can't recruit. You had one of conference
title since 1998. You, you were irrelevant. You hadn't beat Oklahoma nine years till last year.
I mean, do I need to continue? You've never won a national title in the modern era.
You know, well, I was, I was driving to the other side of town today. I had a had an air
into run and drove by a billboard for A&M. That basically said, still winning championships.
And every, every trophy on that billboard was the women's college basketball trophy.
I just, I don't know what in the name of all things. Good and holy is going on down there.
Well, the thing about cause, the thing about A&M. I'm not debating.
That they're a decent, they're a great second tier football program. They're great. They're a second
tier. You have your A's, your A's, Oklahoma Texas Florida, Alabama, LSU, you have your AUSC,
you have your A programs. Do you got your B programs, your A&M, your, your Oklahoma states, your,
you know, I'm going to say this. I'm going to disagree, your, your Georgia's. I don't believe
Georgia's an A program on the field product. Not right now, but they can't see that. Okay. And then
you've got your seat, your C's, your, your tax, your SMUs. That's college football. That's the
pecking order. That's how this thing goes. I don't make the rules. It's just a way it is. When you have
when you're a Texas, we're in, oh, you and you're a Florida, Michigan. Sometimes you can go into a
recruit house and you can recruit clearly off your name alone. You could walk in, go, hey buddy,
I'm the head coach at Florida. I want you to come play running back and brother. The son of
a gun is going to go. He's not going to central Florida. He's not going to southern Florida.
A&M would get steamrolled in the SEC minus every Saturday except Fandy and I'm going to give
you old miss. That's all I'm going to give you in conference. I'll give you a Fandy and I'll give
you old miss and I've done. Why can't they just be happy with where they are? Yes, and I'm going
to tell you. If you, if you ran it down right now, they're fourth in the west.
Four, that's team. Bama, LSU, Arkansas, then maybe Texas A&M in an SEC pecking order.
I don't know who they think they are. A&M hasn't won a national title in the modern era.
Unbeatableness at Kyle Field. Let me tell you something brother. I've seen teams go down there
and win that. That's wearing off. Kyle Field's a big place. It's not a tough place to play anymore.
I've seen teams. I've seen Baylor roll up in there and win in the past five years.
So let's not make it the big house. Let's not make it the swamp. Let's chill out with how bad
Kyle Field is to play. Let's chill out with all that. You know, I still can tend I'd love to see
a game there, but you get that offer plate passing around here in a minute. To me, I don't know.
I don't know where this comes from. I don't know. It's that syndrome. It's that little brother
syndrome that A&M has always had this weird relationship with UT. And then I've heard some
rumors around UT that they're not even going to want. If A&M leaves Texas is thinking about
not ever playing them ever again, that would be terrible. That's a hundred year tradition.
Yeah, why would you even do that? Texas says, you know what? They don't want any part of our
conference, so they only want any part of us, then the hell with them. We won't play them anymore.
I'm not knocking A&M. I think A&M is a great educational university. I'm not even going there.
What I'm saying is you've got to know where in college sports, worse than in, especially college
football, more than basketball, baseball, any of the college Olympics sports. You've got to know
where you stand. You've got to know where you're right in the grand scheme of these things. You've
got to know where you stand. And right now to me, A&M and the SEC, it doesn't make sense.
And it's just A&M. My problem, I'll say A&M as a person of interest to end this segment.
I'm out, bro. I'm right there with you. You're not going to hear me, are you? So that's my
ruling. Drop the Gable A&M. You're a B team program. Stay in the Big 12. When you're eight
games a year, get Texas and owe you scraps and deal with it, brother. Out, hot gal.
You know what, we might as well just go on campus. We might as well speak it over another
Texas school. The Big Brother in this conversation, Texas long-horned quarterback battle,
not going as planned. You used the thing. I did. I didn't use the phrase. I mean,
I would be said there was anything I said. And I just said this, this QB battle is lacking.
Oh, nobody. It's like this doesn't even make the four letter network. Have you read anything
about this? Very little. I kind of rely on you when it comes to most of my baseball stuff. Let's
go back and get the time of shooting. Go back to the national title game. You're before
last in a row as well. Garrett Gilbert came in, saved and runs a pre-bent defense. The joker throws
a couple touchdown passes. He throws a pick. He gets Texas within 14. He's a legend on campus.
Last year, hands down, I've seen a lot of bad quarterbacks. He was probably one of the top ones.
He was a bad quarterback. Seventeen picks at times, Texas could not get out of their own way at
times. They were so bad. That's Garrett Gilbert. Chase McCoy, the Colt McCoy, the one you always
hear is, well, he's going to be better than his brother when we'll take some jack. He's not. He's,
he's struggling with the playbook. He's struggling with arm strength. He's not going to get the
shot. But I've always said to, it's, if, if, if, if I had a big brother and my big brother
with two university, he was a star at that university. You know where the last place I want to go
is that university. But because living in, especially in college athletics, to live in a shadow
like that, it's almost never worked for anybody in the history of ever. Yes. But the new name
coming out of Texas is David Ash. They're saying he's a true freshman. So Texas has a quarterback
problem. And I think that's what's going to prevent. As we said, when we put Texas on the rollercoaster,
this year are the cliffhanger, this is going to be one of those positions key for them.
But this quarterback battle down there, not going well. I was told, you give one, you give
them each a ball to of them throws a pick. Oh, geez. So it's that bad Gilbert throws four
picks, Saturday and a scrimmage game is where it's come from. 18 days left, baby. Brother,
days left college. But all 2011 will be underway in 18 days. More news here. I want to
I'm going to roll through these because I want to spend some time a little time on Miami. But
the starling, I don't know if anybody knows that name, or keeps up with the makes like baseball
draft. He was drafted number three by the Kansas City Royals offered a guaranteed 7.5 million dollar
contract. And he also was offered a scholarship to play football for free at the University of Nebraska.
Well, the other starling came into the coaches office this morning and he alerted Bow
Palini and all the folks up there linking that. He was turning the equipment and he was taking
that 7.5 million dollar payday from the Royals. A problem is Nebraska only has two quarterbacks
still on campus. So this really put Nebraska isn't West Virginia right now. Didn't their
their coach sent out in jail to every student looking for a quarterback. There's yeah, this is
really putting Nebraska in a bind at the quarterback position because you're going back and you've got
Taylor Martinez a guy that I think's great, but he's not great in Nebraska. Nebraska is turned into
let's try to stay in the pocket and throw the ball. Martinez is more of let's kind of scramble
around and make stuff happen. So Taylor Martinez and if he can he goes down, you've got another true
freshman behind him. So Nebraska could be really in a in a log jam at quarterback real quick.
Want to talk a little Miami if you haven't heard today. But this thing's getting ugly.
Yahoo Sports does it again. If you've got trouble in your program, Yahoo Sports will find
this very well. A university Miami booster by the name of Nevin Shapiro. I don't know if he's
in relation to the great Shapiro in the OJ case, but rather be Robert Shapiro. Yeah, Devon Shapiro
is in now he's an federal president for a 936 million dollar illegal Ponzi scheme. Got that on me
and he got go and he got busted for man that if you read this, if go to if you go to Yahoo Sports
and pull up the story, it's unbelievable. And if John's in the room, maybe he's got some
insight on it being a Miami fan. I'd love to hear it. If you go to Miami story, there's pictures
of him with with people players on a yacht, him and a bunch of players on a boat. He's on a boat,
him and he paying on the boat with him. But I mean, he just is waterfront mansion. Miami was actually
bringing recruits to his house on recruiting trips about crazy this thing. I mean, you name them,
there's pictures of him with Killing Winslow Jr, a Frank Gore. Also, Miami basketball coach,
Frank hate is another guy they're saying could be in the middle. So this could affect basketball
and football. This little deal here that they're saying. You know, but what did we expect anything
more from Miami? I mean, Miami's been in trouble. He's now saying that he gave illegal gifts to
over 90 players or something. It was at 74 or something like that. It's 72 72 that's the number.
John, hey, I know man, I hear you do this. I don't theory is. Good thing brother. This thing's not going
to go away with Miami. This thing is serious. One college, I listen to a national college sport show
every day. Mark, fine bomb correct. That's the great Paul fine bomb. I apologize. Yeah,
excuse me, Galileo. Okay. I'll take that. But Paul fine bomb had a one of these reporters here that
broke this story Charles Robinson who'd actually been covering college football for a long time
and had talked to other reporters and shown them the case. And he said he talked to one sports guy.
He left him nameless. Nameless. He said, this is the worst NCAA violation I've ever seen in my life.
Wow. So we're going SMU. We're going to stuff that happened Oklahoma in the mid 80s and 90s.
We're going USC. We're going Ohio State. Is your Luther Campbell or are you in hiding right now?
You know, I don't know. His nickname was Little Luke. Exactly. My pointer.
And actually, if you go to Yahoo dot com, there's there's photo copies of receipts.
What's weird is this is all a let me get back at you deal because he feels like his
alma mater University of Miami actually turned their back on him when he went through this whole thing
with this case on his Ponzi scheme. So he gave which he willingly gave over all this information
to the FBI in the NCAA to Miami's in trouble. I don't think you'll ever see the death penalty again.
I don't think you'll ever see that again. I'll tell you one thing. All golden will coach the hurricanes for one year.
This is it. Yeah. Yeah. He did this cat saying like a good dairy brother. You got that right.
That's that's I mean that is insane. Huge drop in names coach is this he says this goes back to
Butch Davis. Now is he just going scorch earth or is he getting something out of this?
He's going scorch earth. He can't he he could be out. They said no matter what this isn't going to
shorten his sentence. Wow. So he's just I'm taking everybody. Yeah dude. He is going just I mean he's
going out there. He's butch Davis is one this affects of course Larry Coker. This goes back to
02 that's right. I mean he's he's up on it. But so I'm glad he's in the room. I mean this this if you go
I'm not going to go through the whole story. But go to Yahoo do yourself a read. It's crazy. We're talking
meals entertainment paid for some players to give their girlfriends abortions. Oh yeah.
Yeah did pay yeah crazy. I a stripper at a club had relations with a player. She does what human
nature usually does and you know what's going on there. Go brown chicken brown cow. Access to sporting
have heat games, dolphin games, marlin games. I mean it's it's nuts. It's crazy bro. If you read
this story it's like wow this you kind of get that feeling because I'll be honest. I'm not
wanting to say this ain't going on everywhere. Yeah I'll never I'll never claim anybody's clean
as a whistle. I don't know if there's a a booster with a bunch of money going around and putting
players on yachts and coat you know jewelry clothing, television, rims, cars, cash payments,
bounties on certain players. He had a let's see here I'm reading here. He had if you hurt
a Florida state player you got $200 cash. It's crazy let's see here. He gave certain players at Miami
who rushed for certain amount of yards who did certain things. The thing about Miami this is
serious okay we know this is serious. Here's the deal Miami no matter it could be this dude walked
up shook a player's hand and he got $100 in his hand. Oklahoma godfather style. Oklahoma
and I'll give you come or Oklahoma USC Florida state. Bama. LSU. There there what you call
repeat offenders. You know what I mean? Miami is preparing the worst because they're repeat
a fender. Is it a bad day when Barry Swiss or says Miami's a wax program? Yeah I mean I mean
it's not it's crazy um that's like Donald Trump saying those guys are ready to make some money.
Yeah I mean it's crazy this this Miami was I thought algalland was going to be the guy
to get my any back on top. Look at it but if you start taking away TV you start wandering
down scholarships. You start taking away certain things that you have to have to recruit good
players. Miami is as good as dead as a top 25 program. I saw it happen first hand after
Switzerland Oklahoma from 99 oh you was irrelevant under how we're still in burger Gary Gibbs
and John Blake. Oh you was uh it was because the academic sanctions were so huge on Oklahoma
they couldn't recruit. We saw the same thing in Florida state with Bobby Ballon later in his career
Florida state that they couldn't get that player any more because they didn't have the scholarships.
Bama you know Bama had something where they were they uh had one violation for academic fraud.
Well they was taken hide and test and forged signatures on school books and that sort of thing.
So this kind of thing happens everywhere but there's no way in the world it it happens at this scale
everywhere but go to yahu.com read the story dude it's insane it's insane and it seems to be getting
nothing but worse hour by hours stuff that keeps coming out constantly. I mean this guy is giving
the feds everything they want to hear what's bad is two of the coaches in the not what's
they lawsuit but in the information are now coaches at the University of Alabama. Oh geez.
So I don't know what's gonna happen there but keep listening stay tuned stay tuned for that story.
I wouldn't expect a ruling till the end of next season. Go that long. Yeah this I think
you'll know something about what's gonna happen with this story November December.
I don't think it affects this year at all. This year this year this is a done deal.
I think algalding coaches this year and I think he's gone. And I mean if I'm in the minority there I don't
I'm wrong but algalding's a decent football coach and these guys aren't going to coach under
huge sanctions. All right that's why would they that's just how it goes.
College football preview this week with an OU Alabama last week this week we do
LSU will start with LSU first of course LSU in a lot of people's polls as a number one team in the country
I don't know if I it's they'd have to make some turnaround actually got something pulled up here
last year LSU was a hundred and seventh ranked passing team in the country cheese.
I don't know if you can go from that to top 10 in one off season. I just I don't know if that's possible
they were also 43rd in the country against a run on defense in the country. I don't know if LSU
is gonna have as quick as a turnaround as some people have led themselves to believe.
Um over on offense of course the losses Terence Toliver wide receiver probably what are your
biggest losses on on offense not a lot there on offense last year for LSU. A lot of guys
that need a year to season over on defense different story course Patrick Peterson the quarterback
cornerback who now plays for the Arizona Cardinals and then uh Lezarius Levingston a
defensive tackle who is taken in the second round by the Green Bay Packers. So LSU has a lot of
guys of course Rubin Randall a wide receiver that a lot of people thought big things from last year.
You're probably gonna see those big things from him this year in a Morris Clayborn the
another five star defensive back. So the thing about LSU there's they're gonna be a lack of talent out there
you know Baton Rouge, Gainesville, Norman, Austin, Tallahassee, Tuscaloosa there's always gonna be
talent on those campuses absolutely. Um Jordan Jefferson of course the quarterback he's finally a
senior he's also backed up by cheer at Lee another senior this is one thing I don't think LSU's
very good on LSU to me one of their Achilles heels will be the quarterback position. I'm just I saw
Lee play some last year uh Jordan Jefferson to me I saw him play against Auburn of course the SEC
a lot of the games on Saturdays but LSU played of course the cotton ball here and in the Dallas area
Jordan Jefferson's been a guy that's never really impressed me a whole lot. You see him more than me
what do you think of Jordan Jefferson? I like Jordan Jefferson. I think I don't I don't know if he's
gonna fall under that LSU quarterback curse. The gyme I am now full blown calling that but I like to
kid I think he's got skills I just don't know if he's got enough skills for the next level.
Yeah there's just kind of something about him that makes me uh he uh I hope he's got his grades up
gets his degree I'll put it to that way. Um over on defense of course we mentioned more as Clayborn.
Another guy that's there is deep within Kintrick Adams is another guy you're probably going to
hear a lot about. The schedule will run it of course Oregon off the bat at Dallas Cowboy Stadium here
in Arlington. Right. That's a good game. Yeah at Mississippi State so they go to Stark Vegas
right off the bat at West Virginia. So let's be honest LSU's first four games to me are some
of the toughest in the country right off the bat. Oh yeah. They're not doing that cup cake. No.
Weeks wanted to home to Kintucky home to Florida. That's at night in that it's at night game.
Oh yeah. At Tennessee Auburn at Alabama. I think this winter of this game is your western
division champion. Western Kintucky. I don't know why they cram that BS game right in the
middle of their schedule. And I'll old man said of course they finished at home against Arkansas
for the battle of the golden boot. I'll be honest here man. I elished you to me the diceiness of
their season will be determined by quarterback play. Um if I I think they get bit. LSU gets bit every year.
This year it's at Tennessee. That's the snake bit October 15th. I suspect I think Florida plays
in tough at home. I like West Virginia at home. That's a tough place to play at night as well.
Well they're also playing at night at home hosting Auburn. Which I think that could be that could
be statement for Auburn. I mean you're talking about a tough schedule at LSU at Alabama. I'm sorry.
I like Alabama at home as every time. If Nick Sabons the head coach I'll take my chances with
Alabama at at Bryant Ditty Stadium. Let's be honest with you. Go yeah. So with them you know I think
they're second in the West. I think they're second in the West. I think I see three losses on here.
Give me Tennessee as the upset. I think Arkansas gets them and I think I think Alabama gets them.
See you think my boys are in for a long night on October 8th. I just get the long night.
I think Florida will keep it close because I think they have better athletes than LSU. They just
don't have the experience LSU players have. I'm just not impressed now. They could come out here
and be a house on fire for 13 games and I could be wrong. Yeah. The quarterback position is it for
me for LSU is a question mark. I'm just be honest with you. You can't beat teams doing fake
points over the shoulder every single week. Okay throw that one at me. Thank you. But sometimes
you've got to you've got to come out and cowboy up, strap it up and somebody's got to make a throw.
Somebody's got to make a catch. Somebody's got to do something at that point. Everybody I was trying
to. Yeah. As I was just kind of keeping a cool thing how to do this. I will go with their opening
they opponent as we are now previewing the Oregon Duts. Luzer the National Championship
game last year in Auburn defending the last year of the pack 10. Now the pack 12 returning seven
offensive starters five on defense. Of course the bigger of that is done of a really consequential
it. I guess you could say DJ Davis at wide receiver was a big cog in that wheel played exceptionally
in the national title game. Overall defense of course Casey Matthews, brother of clay Matthews,
made a lot of background for the green bay packers. He is now gone and also defensive and
Kenny Rowe. The Oregon offense stems off two guys. Quarterback, Darian Thomas who's the only real
upper classman in there in their quarterback core. You've got two freshmen in a sophomore behind
it and then of course running back LeBecal James brother. He takes our can of kid from down the
road to piece here where I'm actually broadcasting from but also defensive on cliff Harris.
Now cliff Harris was the one that got in trouble. He will be suspended against LSU. He will not play
in the opener. He's the one if you remember while back got pulled over in a car that was rented
by an Oregon employee. That's right. I forgot about that. Last I heard he is not playing against LSU
here in here in Arlington. I think Oregon is a good team. I like Chip Kelly. I like their coach.
I don't know if some of the offseason things with the illegal this lesson, this west,
this lials, Willie Liles, this recruiter from the Dallas area that supposedly given them game
film on certain guys. Hopefully a lot of this stuff won't hurt them in a long run. I like Chip
Kelly. I like Oregon. I'm not real big on the 20,000 million uniform combinations.
Pick a color, pick a uni, home away, go. You agree? Yeah, but they got that Nike money.
I wish they'd stick to uniforms, but that Nike money is going to win every.
Over on defense, it's a lot of sophomores, a ton of seniors. Oregon to me, this,
if they can repeat as packed 12 champion, this is the year. If they can't play for another
national title in New Orleans, it has to be this year because you got to think,
a Michael James will be running in the NFL this time next year. Michael James is gone. He's
not going to come back to the senior. Darian Thomas, he has to play for years because I don't think
he has it mentally or physically to play at the next level to get a check national footballing.
Over on the schedule, of course, we mentioned as they start off against Louweezy and a state
right here in Arlington on a Labor Day weekend. Home opener against Nevada, fear the Lobo.
Yeah, but Nevada, Yahoo, ranking them at 11. Yeah, Nevada, fear Nevada, at Arizona.
Do you got the hosting misery state? Yeah, okay. At Nevada, I mean, at Arizona,
Cal on a Thursday night, so Cal comes into to you, Joe Biden, their mayor.
Arizona state, then one of the newcomers has Oregon goes to Boulder at Colorado. Boulder can be a
tricky place to play. Absolutely. That's if I put an astrick by game, it kind of give it that
feeling. It's it's Colorado. The buffs, not the best new head coach, new direction. Boulder can be a
weird place to play. Washington state, terrible at Washington at Stanford. So back to back to
tough road games. See, Addle, if if Washington, there's they're making strides every year. Of course,
Stanford and Drew look Oregon beat them down last year. But this time, let's it's in, it's in Stanford.
Of course, USC, then they finish out with the Civil War. What do you want to benefit me that USC
games on AS ABC? And they finished a year out, of course, in the Civil War hosting Oregon state.
Oregon's a fun Oregon's a weird team, because last year, then playing for a national title.
To me, I think it gave college football, kind of a fresh up right there. You know what I'm saying?
A little fresh, fresh air, breathing, you know what I mean? Oh yeah, somebody knew
it wasn't the same old people. It was a new team. That was kind of, it was a new players.
It was a new team on the scene. I don't see Oregon repeating as playing for the national title.
I do see them playing in the roles bowl in winning the pack 12. You had your debate out of me on that.
I think hands down this schedule. I like LSU week one. I like, uh, I might give me Stanford
on the road with a proven quarterback like Andrew Luck. I'm going to say 10 into
I'm going to say two losses, but that's good enough to probably win that pack 12. Absolutely.
So man, that could be another one of those conferences. That's that war of
attrition that we always talk about. I know, especially, and I'm not trying to beat a dead horse
spirit, but they're talking about their ones talked about expanding. Just imagine what happens
that conference if you add OU OSU and two other teams. I mean, that that's going to be a conference
to me. That the SEC, I think they might be kind of trying to play keep away. Yeah. Some of
conferences. So that's it. That's that's on campus outstanding. Let's do a couple of real quick
random sports thoughts. They haven't done these in a while. August 1993 soccer fans in Bolivia are
so excited by their country's three one win over Uruguay in a world cup qualifying match
that they allow their village to burn to the ground. Hey, sucker amid the celebrations residents
failed to notice that 40 houses comprising most of the village are on fire. Freaking soccer,
the blaze was caused by firecrackers that fell on the fact that Jews were in the festivities.
August the 12th 1950. Listen to this. This is wacky. Confusion reigns as the New York
Giants defeat the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League 27 to 6 in an exhibition game
before 15,000 people. Here's the weird part. The first half is played under CFL rules, but the
second half is played under NFL rules. How does that work? Make sure your lines are put in place
at half time to mark the smaller field used in the NFL. And they would do this again the next year.
This will is off. A couple of quick quotes. The Phillies Pat Morrell went asked if he could
put a finger on what causes his season long slump in 2003. I don't have enough fingers.
And lastly, Alabama and Hugo Black associate justice of the Supreme Court until the age of 85.
When I was 40, my doctor advised me that a man in his 40 shouldn't play tennis.
I hated his advice carefully and couldn't wait until I reached 50 to start again.
Okay, was that the stand-up you've had in front of the brick ball? Good night, everybody.
You were so drunk. Wow. Wow. Let us talk a little NFL news if we may.
No, baseball first. I can't read. I'm sorry. That's last night in Minnesota.
And I really cut it took me a minute to go. I'd be dang. Jim told me is now hit 600 career home runs.
Jim told me it hasn't been in the league since I was in high school. I feel like it was a fair
week forever. He started as a mariner became an Indian. Was paid a lot of money to go to Philadelphia.
Ended up a white sock now. He's a twin.
You know, and I've kind of been listening a lot of people nationally that said, you know, Jim told me is a guy
that did it the right way. He's supposedly has a real good, a very good reputation around the league. It's being a real good guy.
Well, they asked him. He was on PC today and they asked him about, you know, being in the steroid era.
He was quoted as saying, if I ever did steroids, my daddy would have beat me into oblivion.
Yeah. So on to congratulate Jim told me in Minnesota.
That's all he has to play for right now's records because Minnesota, Minnesota is not going to go to go to the playoffs.
Unless they, they just really get on a roll here in the sand in the hourglass on that,
getting smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller,
predict to make a move, but congrats to Jim told me. I thought it was really cool.
I enjoy my degree. Hey, 600 career home runs. They added debate today on the four-lar net work.
What's more, what's more impressive? The 600 career home runs with the 3000 hits for Geter.
I think the hits, the hits so more consistency. To me, it's one in one eight.
I don't know. 600 career home runs. I think the hits, though. I, and I'm not just saying that.
One in one A may be right, but 3000 hit is that's a big deal. I think it's a show's a little bit of consistency.
Yeah, you know, in my opinion. Because let's be honest, you've got to have 150 hits a year to
even do it. You know, you've got to have that to me. It's a little bit more of a rhythm thing or consistency.
Rangers, President Nolan Ryan announced yesterday that fallen fan Shannon Stone will get a statue
erect of him and his son in the stadium. Creepy or what do you think about this? I don't know how I feel about this.
I know the guy was a firefighter and I think if the association of firefighters wants to put up a statue of
him somewhere, I'm okay with that. Having a statue of him at the ballpark, I don't know how I feel.
Yeah, that's, you know, I'm kind of waiting. I don't know, man. I feel the same way. I respect it.
Agreed, you know, I think it's great that somebody's trying to, you know, to help the family
and do a bunch of things. There's Josh Hamilton and Nolan Ryan and all those guys have to have
done that. The statue thing to me, I agree. I think it's very weird. I just, I don't, I don't know.
It's kind of, it's kind of a constant reminder of something, they really want to constantly
remind people of. Exactly. I guess that's my question.
Actually, that's a weird thing. Yeah. Yeah, but a painting, I'm in on that, a painting, maybe a, yeah, a
I think that's maybe a banner. Maybe a flag up on the, the score. You know, I mean, I agree. There's a lot
of it, but, but a full blown in bronze statues. Yeah. And I've got a hard time with that. But I'm not the
one making decisions. I just thought that throw that out at everybody. Hey, what do you think? Kind of what do you
think? That's just a weird bit. Yeah, baseball. We're getting around the bin here. We're getting closer and
closer, running standings right now. We start out in the ALEs with red socks, lead the Yankees by
at the game. So that is where a lot of people thought it would be in the central division to
Troy now, two up on Cleveland, three up on Chicago. So you're still having that three team power struggle
there. I think ultimately behind Verlander, I think Detroit finally kind of gets, gets in the rhythm
and probably runs away with that. And Texas, Texas has opened up to a five game lead over Anaheim.
And Anaheim pulled ahead and going into the weekend. Yeah, so Texas has kind of, okay,
they've kind of put their foot on the gas again. Over and over in the National League,
Philadelphia leads Atlanta by eight and a half Milwaukee six up on St. Louis. I'm going to throw
out something here to me. The central's done. I'm calling it. I think Milwaukee, you know,
the difference is, did you see that triple play last night? Yeah, I made pretty, the team.
It's good. Filters hitting the ball, Frankie, they're 45 and 15 at home this year.
46, 32 triple play. Yeah, I mean, there are a lot of these teams. I mean, but they're the best team
in the league on the at home at 45 and 15. And Arizona is now pulled to two and a half over San
Francisco over in the west. It's about time. We've been starting to do this a little bit. We're going
to check your current wild card standings right now. Let's start in the AL. Well, wrong,
there we go. Starting the AL will, of course, the Yankees just do the fact of some
games not being played. The Yankees now lead Tampa by 10 games for the wild card. Shouldn't
they just call the wild card race, just the AL. That's a second place in the east and both
least. New York's open that up, too. But Atlanta still sticks up over San Francisco for the
nationally. Well, I get to the playoffs. Got to go to the playoffs. Yeah. I mean, Atlanta,
it's all good. San Francisco to me is in danger of being one of the biggest disappointments
ever as a defending world champion that I think I've ever seen. Wow. The playoffs this year,
ultimate failure on San Francisco. Oh, yeah. But I can't believe it. When I see that, I can
win all champs. Can't I believe that defending champs are probably not going to make the playoffs.
That's baseball. It happened this weekend. Three things that football began and let's get
in the NFL talk now that I can actually learn how to read a run sheet properly.
You know, did you watch a lot of games on this? I've watched highlights. You know me and
preseason football preseason football drives me insane. I want football accounts. If you
if you watch NFL network, they're replaying a lot of the game. They play every game at at some point,
right? They reap. Yeah. Well, what they do, the network has to show them live the first time
they're shown unless NFL network has the rights. I watched a lot of, I've watched a lot of football
over the weekend. Observations, I'm going to start with the obvious. I'm going to start with
the Cowboys as they opened up against the Broncos on Thursday night. You know,
Tibo didn't look bad. I thought Tim looked great at times. I thought Tim looked bad at times.
Orton looked good as well. So I think that's going to be a battle to me that may go on through camp
and on through the season. I still think you've got to get Tim on the field. If you can
get him in some tight end or can you get him in some packages where he's on the field.
Him sitting on the bench to me is stupid. Are you coming to Miami? Yeah, he's too good of a player to
get on the field. Speaking of Miami, I saw them play Atlanta and that Julio Jones, man. If you saw
in the highlights in that game, that kid looks like he may have the hands and the body and the
speed to be able to play in the NFL. And I've kind, I'd know to drop the bat that him and Matt
Ryan. They seem to kind of be on the same page of kind of work in a little bit. If you want,
I mean, he found him quickly. Julio was able to kind of get on the page with his quarterback.
Matt Ryan needed another weapon. He had to have that guy pan out. Cam Newton, of course,
debuted Sunday night against a New York football giants in Carolina. You know, it was a decent
night for Cam. I didn't think Cam really, they really didn't throw the playbook at him. He had a couple
throws in a slant made a decent little deep throw and scrambled for a little bit. So Cam really
did do anything. Man, this kid's going to play at the next level. He had a very basic offensive
package. Well, up until Thursday, he wasn't even going to play in that game. Yeah. Well,
and he, I believe he was either the night before or might have been a game time decision
on what he was going to do that night. But he did play like I said, playing vanilla playbook,
nothing out, nothing to stretch the amount of the imagination. We did see that you had,
there's a lot of things going on. Cult McCoy, I thought played well as well as he did.
So you've released, you've released the loam, uh, cynical Wallace. I look at cynical Wallace.
To me, he's always going to be a wide receiver in Seattle. Yeah. I did. I did a little bit of
order back there. I think it's cult or you draft somebody else next year. I think it's cult or
bust and you just, you trade cult and you try to see what you've got in the draft coming out
as quarterbacks. Did you also see that there, they had a visitor at their training camp today? Was it
farf? Nope. Oh, oh, oh, a trestle. Yes, sir. Trestle. Little weird. Little weird. But pre-season has been good.
I'm going to tell you a team right now that looks really good. And they look like the cohesive
this has happened. I said it in the A. I said it in the preview last week of the South.
Feet watch out for Tampa. Woohoo. I said it last week. I watched him Friday night as they hosted
Kansas City. Or I tell you what, man. Freeman looks good. Blunt looked like it's going to take
four guys to tackle him. I mean, he looked good. Tampa's one of those teams. I'm not saying
Super Bowl, but I think they can get close if everybody gets a little chippy, make the playoff,
maybe upset a team round one. I think Tampa can get there and maybe do something. Okay.
Not going to put the Lombardi trophy there in Tampa. Not going to give it to the glacier family.
But I will say, I will say that they will, you're surprised I knew that. Aren't you? No, I know you.
Other, do I doubt that you know sports? That's part of the reason that you and I do this show
is because we like to talk sports. I think Tampa's a team that can get close. If we were to,
if we weren't at least even key a level, then it wouldn't be on that show, right?
Rumerat Colt McCoy supposedly was tutored by Brett far from the West Coast offense in the
off season. Hey, maybe it helped. Brett played in that offense a lot of years. I've never
dogged that Brett couldn't chunk the rock. I've never, I've never put that on Brett. I think Brett's
a decent player. I think he played a long time. As y'all all know, if you listen to this show,
we did a second person of interest ever was Brett far from. I should, likes it through the rock,
likes to show his stones. But I'm just saying it. But good for good. Good for good. Good for
Colt. I want Colt to work out. I think the kids got heart. I think he's a good kid. He's good kid.
He's good kid. But I just don't want to be bound a bit. Good kid. But I just don't,
I don't want to, I don't want to make you there apparent to anybody. Great. Just just yet.
So I need to see more out of him on the pro level. I mean, I think the kids got talent. I just
need to see what he does with it. This next story, if true, would break my heart. You're, you're
not, not only you. I don't want this thing to happen. But it looks like the thing that a lot of
people's been predicting for a while might and will happen as rumors about that the chargers will
be the team that will attempt to move to Los Angeles at the end of this season as A. E. G.
Got the grief. Yeah, but that was stadium. They're not going to have that city ready for next year.
Are they? I would say, well, the thing about is what San Diego, the thing that's weird is they
off to play it. They would play at the Colt a seal for a year. So I don't know if that's going
to happen or not. But San Diego, if La Jolla, if La Jolla County wants to keep the chargers,
they got to get off their tail. I know times are tough, but you've got to at least either update
Jack Murphy or at least get some plans and at least get something together that shows the chargers
you're even serious about building a new stadium down there. Yeah. The city, it's weird San Diego,
La Jolla County, one of the most expensive zip codes in the United States of America already.
But you've got to make the chargers feel like you're serious about even building a football stadium.
Jack Murphy's old. It is. It's a stadium. It's an older stadium. It was part of an early 90s
90 campaign for kids. I mean, it's an older stadium. I don't know. I'll football on LA.
I think LA needs football. I don't. They've got enough there now. I just, I don't know.
And you screwed the pitch twice on that thing. Well, everybody's saying Oakland to me,
Oakland's the old girlfriend that was on heroin and then got clean and now wants to come back.
It's how I would explain the Raider LA relationship. LA was the toast to the Oakland was the
toast of LA, the Raiders were. Well, they were there. Why they left? Al Davis wanted another big
brand new stadium. And guess what? LA didn't build it then. Sway it was. So LA chargers,
they started there. So the chargers can take the name they started in LA. So the ramps.
That's off in front of the ramps. The ramps. Hey, I'm in. Get sand LA.
That's an earlier AFC NFC West preview. We'll start on the AFC speaking of the chargers.
Kansas City was a team last year that did a lot of things.
And they kept kind of hanging around. They beat San Diego real bad on the opening Monday night
game last year. Yeah. And I was like, man, Kansas City looks good. And that that continued.
They got good running from Jamal Charles. They had decent quarterback play out of, um,
I went blank. Who's the quarterback, a Matt Castle in the, in the head coach. I believe in the
New England shenanigans. The English shenanigans. You're bringing in all the old Patriot GM.
You bring in Romeo, Carnell as your defensive coordinator. So Kansas City to me is set up to do well.
I just don't know if I can see them repeating as the AFC West champions. Oakland's going to be
Oakland. I expect the Raiders to be improved. I'm not saying playoffs. I'm just not sold on A
Clinton, especially in the quarterback department. I just, I don't know if Jason Campbell's
quarterback that can lead Oakland back to the playoffs. I just don't see it. Denver. Hey,
they've got to get there. I don't want to call it controversy. But they've got to get some things
calm down out there. Yeah. They've got to get the quarterback scene under jets. Have to
some jets got to be calm down out there. They got to get the quarterback scene under control,
Denver eight with the injury bug on defense this year. So they've there a lot of guys down on defense.
Of course rookie, fun, Miller. I saw him play against a little against the Cowboys on Thursday.
I thought he looked decent. I don't want to go out and, and crowning the next Bruce Smith.
I'm not going to do that. But I think he looks like he could be a fairly decent player down
eroded. Maybe work out for those guys. San Diego. I'm not sure.
Chargers. Norbs the problem on that team. I don't know if the Spano family will spend a
money. One thing that Philip Rivers has never had. He's never had a deep threat wide receiver.
I like Michael Floyd. You know, I like that kid. I like Jackson. You know, I like the, I like the big
tidy and Antonio Gates. Oh, yeah. I like a lot of those guys. But to me, until San Diego gets a guy that
can stretch the field. Really go down and stretch the field. I still think there are team that's
going to struggle against defenses like the jets and New England in the AFC. Until they get to
mine that can stretch the ball field. Anybody that runs a defense has got tough corners and a tough
safety, they're going to struggle against that team making plays. They can't stretch the field.
John makes a point at the Murph opened in 1967. That's an old stadium. Yeah. That's old.
I'm sure it's been renovated a few times. Don't stay in time. But I'm going to have to go with
can't, here's my deal. Kansas City is a wild card. I'm going to go your division champ is San Diego
followed by Kansas City Denver and I still got Oakland in the rear. Last place again on the west.
That'd be the, oh, the greatest. Yes, you're right. I think this is a division that's
very intriguing because of all the star power of young people. Plus all of the stuff from last year
when your team at Wins the Division is going to have a winning record, which would show me my
dark horse team that made it. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you guys, the the NFC West is a weird division.
Everybody last year was San Francisco San Francisco. They're going to be the team to do it. San
Francisco is going to get over the hump. San Francisco was terrible off the bat. Yep. I single Terry
fired before the end of the season. That's how bad Michael Crab tree finally shows up at game nine.
San Francisco was a train wreck and the train had even left the station yet. Jim Hallball first
year head coach out of Stanford. I think you'll see San Francisco be a little more physical than
they had been in years past. They'll take on. I think a team at times takes on the attitude of the
head coach at times. I think you'll see San Francisco especially on the probably offensive line.
You'll see a lot more physicality there on the offensive line. Michael Crab tree he's got to
show me he can play. I've seen this dude do nothing. Yeah. I haven't seen a lot out of Michael Crab tree.
But you've also got to make a throw from the ball too. Yeah. And you've got on those San Francisco
doesn't want to be wrong on Alex Smith. This is the last year of that experience. I was going to say
how much longer is this experiment going to have to go on before and then go okay we need somebody else.
It just efforts once that justification of taking him number one that year and that draft over
Aaron Rogers. All I know is Aaron Rogers has a ring. That's true. Alex Smith this is this thing
has to end this year. I think San Francisco clearly has to draft a quarterback next year. See
battles in a resting team as they pates Sydney Rikes a ton of money to come there as they also
hand over the reins to another another quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's gone to Vars Jackson's now
your new starter in Seattle. I think Pete Carroll's trying to do too much. I think I'm going to
give Pete. When he got hired I said three to four year window we're in year two but he made playoff
to your one. This might be the Mulligan year for Pete Carroll. He might be able to take a notch backwards
and not make the playoffs and it's not going to be the end of the world. You know I agree with you.
You'll never coach a big college program again after USC. Oh no no no no no. This has to work
or he goes to do an analyst booth somewhere. Oh exactly that's the thing. This that's what's
weird about him is that's where Arizona is a team that's going to be much improved next year just
clearly about a quarterback playoff Kevin Cobb. I think you'll see them get a little bit better next
year for Fitzgeralds over there. They lose the quarterback core Marty and the trade for Cobb
will see. St. Louis you know Sam Bradford played well the other night in a in a preseason game.
They bring on Cadillac Williams to go along with Steven Jackson Walker Sims now the old
wide receiver out of Jacksonville is now in St. Louis. Sam to me is going to be a kid that you
got to get weapons. I just don't know in a 16 game season if I can see him doing a lot of things
with with spare parts. I can understand that. They's got to not mobile. Yeah they've got to get
Sam a deep threat St. Louis has to stretch the field. I could have seen like a repundit thing from
St. Diego but that's what wins ball games. You've got to have the guy that in 38 get to stretch
the field. You know what I mean? Yeah you couldn't hear the music. We've got to have had it for some
sorry. So in the west I don't know. I got to go. I'm going to go Arizona when that division because
I think they're just so much better at the quarterback position and I think St. Louis could finish
sex. It may be get a wild card over in the west. Seattle takes a step back and I think San Francisco
as a first-year head coach is still dead last that division. I'm not sold on Arizona until we get
into the swing of the season. They're one of those teams that they tend to look good on paper and then
they come out. I mean and I referenced the Monday night game against the bears. Where they went nuts
and that first half and what did they blew like a 21 point lead or something stupid like that
in the second half? Something stupid. I just saw Arizona has just got that blue key mental block.
Yeah and they also don't have a proven run-and-back and I think that kills you. Absolutely.
So that's football talk. Also real quick some of the mental draft has been postponed. We
don't know how long yet and the Broncos have released the Lendale White.
We don't want to move 20 minutes to go. So Tennessee lets him go and now the Broncos let him go.
Can't get a break. USC. We got time for this list. Yeah real quick we'll run through. All right let's
queue up to music again. Let it play the right time this time. Yeah we're actually going to
we need to do our list last week. We actually held until Sunday which I thought worked out really well.
Every week we close the show with the list. The pinch of the swings to Cody this week. I
had to change the wording of the title because you put we in this title. And I'm going to
tell you something sir. I've got points of attention. Top 10 things I miss about real football.
To me I think the league changed after 94. Okay after the strike. I don't know that. I
think the players will get a little weak. Contracts got too big. Top 10 things I miss about real
football. Number 10. Stick up. Why stick up? I miss all the things you could miss about old school
football. You start with stick up. Remember some of the old Raider films you would see in the
guys would almost be covered. They had stick them on their socks. Lester Hades. Yes sir.
Yeah. Lester Hades. You actually done job. I mean he would just have stick them on his arms
on his neck on his feet on his socks. Just that was the 70s was a lot of stick them. Now outlawed
obviously. Number 9. Remember these stadiums to me they're all pretty. They're almost all
like casinos at times. I miss veteran stadium. I miss Texas stadiums. I don't miss Texas stadiums at all.
You know I miss some of these old school stadiums. I like Lambo before the re-bottle.
I miss the kingdom. You know I like these stadiums that weren't real. We don't see
at all to miss the kingdom. I like I miss my high orange ball the OB. Yes I miss the old
stadium that were built for the fans in not the millionaire stadiums that would get loud in almost
shake. Now people are too afraid it may hurt their status quo to make any noise in a football
stadium. Would you agree with that? I like the nice big stadiums. I like the comfort
over sitting you know just I don't like the whole sitting size. Shoulder to shoulder with
people on seats that are rock hard and three rivers, three river stadiums. I miss some of
the old stadiums. Not all of them. I do miss the Orange ball absolutely. I don't miss I don't
this is good. That's good way to put it. Buildings with character. I don't miss Tampa Bay Center.
I don't miss a brairo at all. I missed a some brairo. No. Number eight real fullbacks.
Well the next might all stop. Oh the A train baby. I mean we have diminished a fullback
position in college football so much. Tip Tom Rathman. Who's the kid? What about the kid in
Cleveland? He's a run in back. Oh that's right. Pete Hill is running. Pete Hill is
straight in Ellis. Yeah guys like Mike all start Tim Rathman of course Daryl Johnson. A lot of
people claim it what Larry Zalco was a fullback dog. A lot where are we gonna be able to to get
to get these positions back in in football some way somehow. The big man can't touch the rock
no more. I don't know what's going on there. The big man can punch it in. I don't
punch it in. Number seven remember the days of a quarterbacks actually called their own play?
Hey Pete Manning still does. How many times of Pete Manning gone to the wine and called it
audible? Three out of four doubts. I think when a quarterback dog that calls on plays in my opinion
it takes the thinking out of it for him. You make the office a quarter-air fall on the sword.
Why can't we have quarterbacks that have a let's us call a play? You run them in practice.
Let's use your opinion. Now you get these offices of coordinators at week week week. Dawn is
head coaches. Bradshaw on play. Marino on play Montana on play. I want to take that a step further
and say why do we have to have the first 20 plays laid out before we get to the stadium?
Why are we scripting games? There we go. Let's go back put it. Remember the old age of the six
deal barefoot kicker on board with this. It was weird but it was cool. Yeah the barefoot kicker.
Number five remember the the your opponents actually got angry. Something old Raider,
Broncos games or Raiders, Chiefs games or Raiders playing anybody games. Pittsburgh and Oakland
just set with them. I just after playing rivalries for fun. Cutin up in the hanging out in the
hugging and taking pictures and all that. That's what I hate about the pro game right now.
Nobody seems to care anymore if they win or lose at times. I mean I understand you know
shaking hands at what not after the game but get fired up during the game. We were watching
the deal with your house last week with Raid Lewis miced up. We need more guys during a game like
that. Number four nicknames Billy White Shoes Johnson the assassin Jack Tatum the slaring
soccer the Zont Kazan the killer bees the no name defense doomsday the steel curtain
hey killer bees. Yeah the moose Johnson. I mean what happened to the the nicknames
Chris for if he's not Chris Burman it doesn't matter. Yeah dick night train lane.
Not everyone. Number three hey I just said it football in LA. I see I disagree with this.
The third one you screw up twice. What's the old it? Screw me once.
I managed to be right shape on me. Yeah but football says this you're your two
your second major market the world our third market Chicago's two correct. It's New York LA Chicago's
taco okay. But you don't have any football market there and I think that's that's a that's a weird thing.
I'm telling you I will fail again. I'm saying it on the show right now. Number two real grass on board
with this. See the Cowboys Stadium was supposed to be like with Arizona where that's real grass
and they grow it outside and they reel it in. They were supposed to do that with the new Cowboys
Stadium and they did love the real grass like how Miami the real grass course lambo candlestick
arrowhead there's a few out there but this this this turf that looks like grass with these black
beads come on man get a grass thing it's got to play in the mud. Oh you're playing with chunks of
tiring your field. Number one well dressed coaches and see Jack Del Rio tried this and it failed
but landry Lambardi guys with the hater's tram Hank straight up to look at the Kansas City over the
huh always had that real sharp suit on with the black tie and well dressed coaches you don't
and if you don't want thanks Sheila kind of started when he got to Miami the short sleeve golf shirt
I didn't know that that staunchsula kind of started the the polo type coaching shirt that you see
in football and why is it when a guy does it now he gets chastised by every money yeah but that was
the norm I liked that almost go one step forward can a brother get bummed Phillips and the cowboy
had on the side last of the road they go they go felt beef and skin hat over that's the list that's
the list and that means this that means the street lights on and that's gonna do it for this week
