Do you miss that?
That was good.
Do you miss that little little signature intro?
That's great.
That was great little intro.
It seems like it's so long ago that they used that.
Welcome to the very first special edition of the clubhouse podcast.
We're open in the clubhouse for a very limited audience today.
Right now it's an audience of two.
Again, I'm Rob always joined by Cody.
Greetings.
It is our SummerSlam preview show.
We are going to do this for every major.
At least.
We have agreed to do this.
SummerSlam Survivor Series.
Royal Rumble.
Wrestling wrestling may be the big one.
That's the big one every year.
We're going to talk about SummerSlam itself.
This is not going to be a full blown episode of the clubhouse podcast.
Or the clubhouse with Robin Cody.
We haven't decided what we're going to go with yet.
But it's going to be just a quick deal.
We're going to talk about SummerSlam.
It's hard for me to call it a major.
Yeah.
I'm here.
The card here is extremely, extremely weak.
I think for a major paper.
Yeah.
Right until last night, we only had three matches on the card.
Because I went to the SummerSlam website on Monday afternoon.
And the only matches that were on there where the tag was the 14 man and the two title matches.
But we're going to go down the card as we see it.
I've got one match listed here as I think.
It hasn't been announced, but it's almost a guarantee that it's going to happen.
And then I've got one that I'm not sure how it's going to work.
But let's start at the top.
Team Nexus versus Team WWE right now.
It is a 7 on 6 because on Raw Monday night.
As somebody so eloquent where it is.
So eloquently put it.
Because we still don't know that all 60 guys are together.
Yeah.
He moneyed up the water.
I'm so glad.
Well, you even said that off the bat.
That was something that was going to be said.
That was real weird.
I just, I don't know.
Now it's Edge Jericho.
Archruth.
Morrison.
Cena.
Who am I missing?
Brett.
Brett.
I don't really count.
Brett.
He's not going to do anything in this match.
Let's be perfectly honest.
Yeah.
I mean, and you have that TBA.
The TBA, which we talked about.
If you listen to the August 10th episode of the Clubhouse podcast.
We talked about who the 7th man is going to be and how this is going to work.
I have my theories of Triple H.
I think that.
I'm buying that theory.
I think it looks a lot.
We're getting up to.
The two fat Laurels bashed the beach.
1996 in the NA boa bit, I think we are getting extremely close to that where.
We haven't had us a good old-fashioned Wrestling Swirb in a while.
That'd be pretty big.
That would be like.
I wouldn't go hogan because I don't think Triple has ever, that Hover is face.
He's played.
He's.
Right, now.
face with the DX bit for a long time. I think that would be, I think that would be pretty cool.
And I would be surprised if that happened. I'm sorry. I was in mid, uh,
sip of my water when you're just the one, two, three kid if you're looking for that. Um, but yeah,
at that, it'd be fun. It'd be fun. I think Nexus wins regardless. Yeah, you have to keep them on the
floor. You gotta push them. You gotta push them. Because this thing has to go probably until at least
survivors. Yeah. WWE title match. Shameless Randy Orton. Sorry, distracted. Um, you know, I could,
I think it's time for Randy to have a little belt run. You know, uh, how long has it been since
he held the belt? It's been a while. I mean, sure. Well, no, towards the end of, um, the, the, the,
the, what is it? The group he was in. Legacy. Legacy, gotta escape me. Um, that's right, because
didn't take cost him the dollar or something. You know, but, and I've always thought, I've always thought that
Randy was a great champ. He played, he'll be play face champ once. That was his first row. And I
did the youngest champ. Yeah. I thought it was a kind of corny. I think he's a good champ. Wrong
belt for him. But you'd put the world belt on. Yeah, I like the big belt on him. I think him being the
WWE champions perfect for him personally. I mean, it is what it is. Get it off Shameless.
But she, here's my thing. He's transitional though. And remember, when he wanted TLC, I believe
I had that. You call him everybody laughed at me. I'm to the point now where the, the roster
so depleted is he really a transitional champion in this roster. He's almost the guy.
Right now. I mean, it's kind of like he's getting better on the stick. The one thing is the accent.
And I think if Barrett ever becomes something, that's a problem. He's going to have is the thick.
Oh, it is his way to like, regal is at least understandable way. Barrett's got to learn to
announce the eighth. And plus Shameless has the double whammy of the accent and the whispers.
Give me Orton. You think Orton wins the throw it out there? Let's see. What's that? Nine of
champions is next up. Yeah. I think I think that's what it's on to it. Yeah. And then you lead. Well,
you know, could you have a three-way dance? Could Orton want? Now, didn't they say something
where I was not on Raw about if Orton loses. He doesn't get another shot. There were some
stipulation about the interferes. And then nobody can interfere. And the person that
interferes on the behalf loses the belt. And the email from the mysterious general manager.
I don't know about she, but when I get emails, my lights don't flash. I'm ready. I'm ready for
that to be unveiled, too. So yeah, that's something we're going to get to on a normal episode of
the clubhouse podcast or theories on that. I still think that the WWE doesn't know who it's going to be.
It's just, it's a mess. It's a total mess. World heavyweight title. Again, heavyweight title
can rain mysterious. I'll be honest with you. If this is a SmackDown, this is a, this is a
match you go to the bathroom in. And it's a title match. Yeah. If I'm, if I'm American Airlines
Center or I'm at a Madison Square Garden or I'm in anywhere at a house show. And this is on the
marquee that night as a match in the midcard. I'm going to the bathroom, probably grab the beer.
And this is a title match. Yeah. I just don't, I don't understand the logic here.
There's no, but we couldn't have had at least had some at least swagger. Give me him.
I mean, you're going to do this. You're going to do this casket match that was supposed to be the
return of the Undertaker. Weird. Has he not, has the orbital bone not healed well enough?
Could we not put the mask back on him for this thing? Oh, no, no, no, no, no. It is what it is.
I mean, I think Kane keeps it. He almost has to. And you know what, Kane is Kane, Kane is owed.
I think he's been very deserving to, to had him a little decent belt run. I mean, he's had that
gimmick for. I'd say give it to him at least to survivor series. Yeah. I think he's earned it.
He's earned him a little belt run. And I'm on board with that. I, I just think this match cannot go on very long.
Exactly. This is probably going to have to be. Maybe that's a 45 minute mark of the paper view.
Yeah. Because it's, it can't be. Orton shame is it's going to be before the before the 14
you think. And did we, did we determine that that 14 man is in a elimination match? Or is it just regular attack?
It's a elimination match. Elimination rules, which basically is survivor series.
Exactly. So we've got that going on.
Davis title. Alicia Fox versus the returning malina.
Nothing. I just, I don't, you know, there's no build up to. There's no build has been a two-week program.
I've never thought that Alicia Fox was a great women's division champion on granted.
Let's be perfectly honest. Dixie's got the corner on the women's division right now. The knockouts
take the divas to the wood shed. Let's be honest. And I, and I think if you got Vince off the record,
he'd say the same thing. Yeah. You know, wind vents start writing that.
Couple of him. He'd have to pony up because Velvet's guy didn't really love just sign huge contracts.
And I mean huge contract. So, I mean, I guess, I guess the bigger question is when does he
party, right? I mean, yeah, I mean eventually, eventually he's going to have to put some money in this thing.
I just think that the, the divas division is just, it's hard to watch right now. The outside of malina.
Who does that diva Beth Phoenix on the shelf? We don't know. We have, I haven't heard word one about
her come back. Man, it's just a whole roster. Vince is whole roster. The whole is just completely
depleted right now. Yeah. It's, it's tough. It's, the business in you and I talk about this quite a bit.
The business is in a rough, rough place right now. And I don't know what the future holds for the
business. Yeah. If, if this TNA thing doesn't work out, and of course, we're getting a little bit
off the beaten path here. But if TNA can't stay at least viable, what else? I mean, if Vince
ends up getting a hold of that, my God, call it a day. Man, I just, nobody do anything anymore. Yeah,
just be, be local. Be over there. Six flags, Mal and Arlingtoner. Mal, the Americas are going to
bring. We're going to do them shows out there now. Those guys are done, too. That's all MMA.
Anthony. This next match has not been announced, but it's got to be inevitable. Last Friday on
SmackDown, Dolph Ziggler beats Kofi Kingston with a little help from Vicki Guerrero to win the
Intercontinental title. And then subjects himself to about a 10 minute beat down from the, from the
Kofi Kingston, the yellow and red clad. That's, this color is using it right now. I don't know why.
The green thing I got because of Boston. Life's I don't like coffee. Kofi,
like coffee too, but I use a cup right now. I think you got to put it on a face because I think I
want to see Cody Rhodes with that belt so bad. I think Kofi gets his belt back. But I like that belt
week run. I like, I love that belt changing hands. I think young guys need to be around that belt.
I think Ziggler holds it till night of champions. Give him a month. Yeah. I'd love to see
Rhodes. And then maybe do that like a four corner, three way and Kofi. You know what?
I would. Rhodes come out with the belt. That would be a great match. The three of them together
in a triple threat. I don't think that's going. And then yeah. Cody and, and you know,
Intercontinental is perfect for him in my opinion. U.S. I don't, I think he's, I think he's at a certain
level. He's above the Intercontinental belt right now. Correct. I mean, I'm not, I'm not the
Intercontinental, the U.S. belt. He's above the U.S. belt. He's been a tag champion. So he's got that
covered. I don't know that he's, he'll ever be ready for the big belt. No, he never knows.
His old man was barely enough for the big. And I never liked Dusty as the, as the head,
as the lead dog. I don't, I don't know what's going on there. Here's a little diesel for you.
And you know what, but you know what, we're missing.
Tag match. Every, I will say this again, every single belt needs to be on the line in a major.
I, you and I are in full agree. And why can't we make a new one set of a tag belt?
I don't know. We still having people walk around with four belts.
Heart guidance. He's still got him. Yes. Because I honestly, for a minute,
there, I forgot why are we still walking around? And what happened to Nadie?
She can't get into an Adiva's match and win a title. Yeah, we can't win. What happened to her?
What happened to her? What happened to her? The day where you had the, you know, the lead edge thing
where they both had the belts or the McMahon Helmsley arrow. Yeah, they both had the
Stephanie as women's champ. So that's just that she ever actually wrestled on what she did there. Come in. I'm
vaguely remember how that went down. But I saw a picture. I was, we were doing the research for this.
I saw a picture. One of the Wikipedia pages of Edge with the title and lead it with the women's title.
And I was like, what? Different era. Different time. Different time. Different place. We'll see.
And it wasn't that long ago. It was amazing. It was amazing. It was amazing. But right now,
as it stands when we record this on Wednesday night before summer slam, that's your whole card kids.
There's nothing else going on. Are we now? Does Miss Cashin? Let me ask you that. Because we've
been teasing that forever. I'd like to see Miss Cashin on the SmackDown champ. I'd like to see
Cashin and be the first money in the bank winner to lose. And yeah, then there's that. And then
maybe you put that WC that WC that WC that will, it might as well be the United States title.
May you for that? I always like the tournament for the belt.
Well, especially since we've lost King of the Ring. Exactly. I miss I miss King of the Ring. I liked
but I like not a champions. I love that concept. I love the concept of not a champ. It's the
non-made. It's it's like the, uh, what do they call it and go? The fifth major. That's a, I love the PGA.
The Tournament. The people's major. The fans major. Great. Love it. Great idea.
I didn't hear her here in Dallas a couple of years. See the versus trip. Yep.
Trip guys win back. Love. Love the 90's. I'm looking forward to that next month.
Trip finally got his win back on Cena that night. And then what's the, uh, are we still, we're
not doing to cyber Sunday anymore? No. Are you cool cocky and bad sir? Is that what's going on?
I like this. Great. It's a little champion of all time. Talk about summer slam.
Yeah, you talk about summer slam. You gotta talk about the hockey talk, man. Because he's a big
part of that. Speaking of which we had to get the hockey. To drove him to the ring.
It would be Diamond Dallas pay. It was his Cadillac. Yes. What was that, uh, rhythm and blues.
Rhythm and him and eaten. Was it eaten? Yeah, him and eaten. Oh, with him in valentine.
I thought it was him and, uh, it was him and a big blonde. No, I think it was valentine.
Was it? Check that one day under right now. But rhythm and blues. Rhythm and blues, sir.
Lawler's cousin. What we've done is if you listen to the clubhouse podcast and if you
don't and you're starting here on a little confused. Thank you for listening. We do a list every week
and usually the pendulum swings back and forth between the two of us for the pendulum.
For these additions when we do these, we're actually going to do
different sides of the same coin in the list. We're actually both have done a list
where we've done the 10 best and 10 worst summer slam edges of all time.
For those of you that are keeping track, this is summer slam technically. This is summer slam 23.
88 was the first one. What? 22 and one is 23. I mean, you think about that. It's been almost a
quarter of a century. Yeah, that was, um, MSG. Summer slam 88. Tell this whole thing got kicked off.
And then did you like two of the first three or something? I mean, they did. They've to help
it. They've done a lot of that. They did 88. They did 91 LA's carried now two in a row. Uh-huh.
That seems to be the deal now. I mean, it's tropical at summer time. It makes sense.
All right, man. You first are me first. All right. Um, I guess I'll go first because it's the top and then
it's the bottom. I will start with the bottom of the top, if you will. Number 10, 2003.
Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar. If I'm not mistaken, this was the match with the botched moon song.
Yeah, this match was a mess. It was badly booked. I thought it was badly wrestled. You had to get
to God. I thought it was great wrestled because Angle had to work to make. He did. And this to me
was one of the matches early enough in Lesners. Did you put the likes expressing here? Really? Wow.
Summer slam memory. Your hero. Good lord. Um, and this is four and a half minutes long,
but the likes express are here. Come that bus after he slams soon up. I'll be here. We're going
down the road. The big tour bus. Be here here. Uh, our Angle. I mean, this is post invasion.
Angle was really at the top of his game at this point. And he was and to make to work with Lesnar.
And if you watched that botched moon song, Angle almost tried to move over to get there,
but man, Brock landed badly, kind of changed the course of his career. Yeah, that was just a
weird weird match. Uh, and remember there wasn't a whole lot of build up to it. There wasn't really.
Number nine, Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, 2001, the latter match for the hardcore title. In this
era of the business. If you're going to have a ladder match, these two cats, you can't get much
better. And then there's another one coming later of a different style. And they straight ladder
match in this era. These two guys. Oh, yeah. That was great. I mean, and it was RVD, right? When we
were kind of getting ready to see what he was all about. A lot, I love it. And a hardcore title. Miss
miss it. Yeah, miss the 24th of always been between ECW guy after they got there. I kind of thought
when you had a couple of these guys holding it was kind of quirky. I thought the ECW guys gave it
a little bit of legitimacy. Yeah, absolutely. Number eight. One of your favorites. Oh, because of the
aftermath. Undertaker Brett Hark 1997, Sean Michaels is your special guest referee. We actually
referenced this match. Uh, in episode one dash four, if you will, of the clubhouse podcast,
where we talked about this match, where at the end gets kind of weird. Everybody does a run in
Sean ends up hitting Brett with the chair. Yeah, it's a real weird deal. And it was the predecessor
to DX. The Loukey hurt around the world. That was kind of Sean went full blown, undisclosure,
heel, and there's another story that people I know is he cut the infamous Undertaker overseas promo
on Raw for your members. Aren't you going to explain that to the people who don't know
not too long after this. Once they, um, the Undertaker and Sean had net this point on, and I'm
saying television. Not a house show, not a, um, they'd never touched. And on a Raw, the Undertaker
was with a group that was overseas, and Sean goes out with JR in pretty much cuts this huge
berating Undertaker promo, knowing he's not there. Not even the same continent. And when he
got back in the locker room, there was some wrestlers pretty upset with him, and Mark was also
very upset with him. And when he got back in this continent, there was a big sit down about that,
and things got a little sideways. They're a little sideways, but they never touched. I don't think
they ever had a problem with each other. But Sean did apologize. They're okay. That probably wasn't cool.
It happened this lead in the hell in the cell, which that's a holder show. But yeah, this was a decent
match. All right. Number seven, and there's a reason I put this in. I'm good. And I watched this,
this next survivor series live. I have it on video somewhere. I taped it as I watched it.
Edge and Sable versus Mark Marrow and Jacqueline, 1998. And the reason I put this on the list
was because this was the in-ring debut of Edge. He'd been doing the sting thing where he'd be
seen in the crowd. And he never said anything. And my wife, my wife has a great quote about this.
She loved Edge until he opened his mouth. Once he started talking, she was done with it.
Yeah. I mean, this match happened. And if you remember this match, remember the finish of this match,
where she jumped up off the mat, put her legs around his waist. He picked her up in the air and dropped her on
Marrow. And I thought, I was like, it was meant to me for that. And there's another match from this
card late coming up later on. Number six, Stone Cold Zeev Austin versus the Undertaker. Exactly
the same summer slam. That's how about there's one coming up. This was highway to hell, brother.
This was also MSG. Yes, sir. This was a great match. Not the best match on the card, but
but the magnitude of this match was why I put this thing. First time they never done anything to
that point to my knowledge. Yes. Yeah. Great match. You also held that same card. Had Triple H in the
Rock and a ladder match. Yes. Which was a great. And I did not put that on here. Just I, it just
wasn't to me. This was the match on that card because this is the one you remember seeing the poster,
the highway to hell thing or Austin standing on the road. And that was the one you wanted to see.
These guys on this side of the coin were the two biggest names in the business. The rock was almost
their Triple H starting to gain steam. But you wanted to see the Undertaker and Stone Cold
go at it. Number five, 1994 in the steel cage, Brett versus Owen. Very underrated match. You
don't hear a lot about this match, but Owen wrestled his tail off that night. Yes, he did. Both
blood. That was one where Helen was at ringside, if you remember. And if you read Brett's book,
he talks about how at this point, Vince didn't want people bleeding. And how Brett and Owen
all the guys which figure out ways to explain to Brett why they were bleeding. And made it
like, oh, it was an accident. I hit the corner post and Vince was like, hey, well, I guess it's going
to happen. So, and this is, if you go back and watch this match, I did a few weeks ago back and
watch this match again. It was great match. Brett also at number four, 1991 against Mr. Perfect
for the intercontinental. That was one of the greatest intercontinental title matches. Probably
ever. That was Brett's first single time. And that's another, if you read Brett's book, he
goes into that match extensively about how much that match meant to him. And because he and
Kurt were very, very close. Yeah, I was a great member. He'd remember Perfect Plex. Great move.
Kicked out. And then went forward again and Brett reversed it and rolled into the sharp shooter.
I mean, the excellent execution nickname was born. That not MSG. Another MSG.
Brett was a big player at Summerslam's. Number three, the year of our Lord 2000,
Dudley's, Hardies, Edge and Christian, TLC2. And what was TLC1? That was Wrestlemania 2000, same year,
which I also have a video somewhere. Okay, I just, the bit, I think the bit was repetitive.
Who was gonna, the biggest, he went matter who won the titles. Who was gonna take the biggest bump of the night.
To me, though, any, any combination of those, those three tag teams. Any time you have any
combination therein, it's always gonna be great when you put a ladder involved. Do you talk about
six guys that have taken sick, sick, sick bumps every day? You can't do much better than that.
And when you put them in a TLC match, which really that was just starting to come into its own deal.
I just, that's the reason it's on the last man. You can't go wrong with those cats. You just can't.
Number two on my list, probably number one on your, on your favorites ever.
Although one and two, you, I probably both agree on that. I've seen this man in four years at this point.
Two thousand two, Sean Michael's Triple H Street fight. Unsanctioned to build up to this match,
was probably one of the best jobs that's ever did. At the match told a story, it told a friendship.
It, I don't know. I mean, they really pushed this thing. If you remember, the little back story,
Sean comes back. Him and Tripp want to reform DX. Of course, Tripp hits the sickest pedigree.
I think he's at least. Right after last year, ready to suck in pedigree.
I mean, it lays him out. Perfectly sold, perfect. The next two weeks on Raw, somebody jump,
Sean and put his face to the window of a car, Sean's real busted up. This was back when WWE New York.
If you remember, Sean was there via satellite and Tripp said, I'm looking for who did it.
Everybody's on alert. Yada, yada, yada. And the old parking lot camera revealed it was none other than Triple H.
And Sean said, I'll be cleared or wrestled by, let's say, summer slam.
Of course, Tripp was in. Unsanctioned Street fight. It was a side of Sean. I don't think anybody
ever sitting in the ring. He'd never done hardcore. And he said, I can do this. I can do the chair in the
the belts and the shot of that as when he gets up on that ladder. Tripp's on that table and he
does the circle around his head like he's crazy and just that was the spot of that. And really,
if you think about it, he shouldn't have been able to do any of that. I mean, he went out there.
You talk about a guy who, for all intents and purposes, we should have stopped seeing him in a ring.
You know, there's one thing about that WrestleMania that you kind of go to summer slam.
Summer slam. Excuse me. You know what followed that?
Remind me. Rock, Lesnar.
The place was half empty.
It would have had to have been. I mean, how do you follow that? The place was half empty.
And even if you're those two gentlemen, like, in Rock, go on before. Rock put him over that night.
That was when Lesnar won the belt that night. But yeah, if that was the match that proceeded that.
And if you watch, I bought this paper. I paid money for it all empty seats.
How do you go back? How do you, I mean, both men,
believe me, or Sean had the ringlers. Oh, I mean, I was the first time he wrestled in the
ringlers, too. That's the first time he'd wrestled in. It'd been four years since we'd seen him.
It'd been WrestleMania, um, de-exraided. But would that have been?
17. Yeah. I mean, we were Sean had not been in the ring for quite some time at that point.
Number one on my list of the greatest WrestleMania or summer slam matches,
as well as I always did at that time. Greatest summer slam matches ever.
This is one of the, one of the themes. Wow, that better.
1995 and the ringler.
Ramone Sean Michaels. It'sburg PA. The very first of two. The nominal. This was the rematch.
Two phenomenal latter matches between these two. Sean actually came in as champ and probably had the
second best intercontinental title back drop. He had silver. Yes.
Had the gold plate and the silver back. I mean, just awesome. I forgot. I got the intercontinental.
Yeah, I do have that. Forgotten. Thanks to you. Forgotten match. Forgotten match.
Great match. Not the built-in on his big is the, I remember that was something that was,
it was a, was if you remember viewers choice. Yes, sir. And Sean was a champ and if
viewers choice was ladder match tube. Not as good as the first one. Still great. The ending spot was awesome.
Super kick off the ladder.
Great. They're both. Climb at those same time. Those, those matches, though,
was a huge one. A contention between him and Brett because Brett claims that he told Sean about the
finish that he wanted to do that finish and then Sean stole it from him. And of course,
there's two sides to every story. Yeah, Sean kind of queues up the mini band on the second
the last wrong and great. Pretty each other over. I do have some honorable mentions, though,
that I wanted to put out there stuff that I probably if I had done a top 15 would have been on the
list. But Texas tournament versus Mr. Perfect. No, that team 90 gave him the world a world tag team
title that night. Yeah. And I think that and we talked about that in the addition of the normal
clubhouse podcast that we did before this show. Yep. I put this on there just because of that run.
You know, again, he was the one that would that made it. Yeah. He was the one that did it the big
time. And I don't I think if if he stays off the drugs, you know, carry on there,
committed career suicide with painkillers. Yeah. He had one foot. Also,
Sean might have got to tell 1992 the stipulation was neither one could hit each other in the face.
Yeah. Genius. I say another funny bit is when they did hit each other, Sherry fainted.
Actually went to double count out. There's a story behind that. That was actually supposed to be
Sean Brett in Washington, DC. This match took place at Wimbley Stadium in England, obviously.
And the deal was, Sean was going to win the ice. He strapped that night. But with the global
popularity, Vince was getting overseas. He decided to take a major on the road like that. And of course,
who put it on a hometown got British Bulldog. I don't know if Davey was a singles champion.
Had a very short run. I mean, Sean got it was good. I didn't give her Sean company.
But the intercutting was done. Sean got the belt about two months later on on the last
the original incarnation of Saturday night's pandemic. It's brother. Yep. Brett Hart British Bulldog.
We just talked about that match in wedley. I mean, that summer slam was kind of neat.
But you know what my biggest memory that summer slam is to Harley's. Yes, sir. Yeah.
Or the undertaker and the old Tommy Hurts. But also the undertaker within the Kamala and a
casket match. Yes, sir. And he came down that old time. Pardon my French just that. Yeah.
And yeah, great match. One of Brett's best in a loss.
I'm going to skip this next one because it's on your list. Yeah. Just say that there's one on his
list that I put an honorable mention just because of what it was. But my last my last honorable mention
is the original elimination chamber. You remember you remember who I was in the Sean won this. Yes,
he did in one of the world title in the brown pants. Yep. Triple H gold bird Chris Jericho,
Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, Sean Michaels. Let that sink in for a minute. Yeah. And what's weird is
at all. All the people to win that Sean Michaels walks out the world heavyweight champion that night.
And hey, Ben's owed it to him. Sean had a run with that gold belt. And that's on the resume.
Yep. And let me tell you something. Best elimination chamber lineup ever. Oh, yeah.
I, I, I, priestly was priestly was priestly. And I'm not even planning this. This is just now.
It's coming up on the list. Great. I mean, yeah. And I forgot gold bird was in that. He that
not to me because of. I mean, that's that's six of the biggest names of the industry.
Oh, it was it was good. It was on. It was on point. It was sure. And it was the first one invented and
it caught on quote invented by Eric Bischoff. Now, there's the other end of the other side of the
structure. McCody's going to give us the 10 worst matches. It's our strength history for a major.
This thing is probably produced more stinkers than in some of these are really I went a little
maybe just a little bit older than my counterpart did. I'm going to start at a match that
I remember sitting with you. Yes, sir. And a girl I was dating at the time at Pogsys library here in Dallas.
And I really thought this is going to be the greatest match in WWE history. And it should have been
for all intents and purposes. It should have been. And I'm talking about Hulk Hogan versus Sean
Michael Summerslam 2005. And you're going to hear me say something about this. And I don't know if I've
ever said this to you. In Hogan. First of all, I will admit, Hogan worked in this Hogan D bag.
Yeah, before he wrote that. And that's what I'm saying. Hogan actually worked in this match.
Even though Sean over sold everything. Sean over sold everything because Hogan had
mucked up the works. Yeah, this match was going to be a run-in and then he was going to be a double
count out. And then in Hogan goes, no, I need to win. I mean, it was so back and forth. I remember
at one time, Sean was out completely. Yeah. One time, Hogan was out completely. They were actually
teasing Piper and Sean. Cause remember Sean was super kicking a lot of the legends. Yep.
That think that that was sad the way that turned out. But it's it's it happened. This one's
kind of funny. A lot of people probably, but this was your main event. MSG again. Hulk Hogan
in Brutist of Barbara Beefcake versus Randy Savage. And I'm going to call him Tony Lister. But at
that time, going by the name of Zeus. No, where we is, is that because we were posting
whole no holds barred. Okay. We were post that. Um, I never, ever, ever, ever been real high
on the actor turn athlete or the athlete turn wrestler. I just never worked. It's never worked.
But it's been done time and time and time and time. Again, it does not work. And I think part of
that too. And I think it's kind of, it's kind of, if you think about it, it's Vince telling
everybody else, you see, you can do this. Exactly. It was great. Great care. I thought the Zeus
character was actually pretty cool. Um, this is a weird one. A guy that I have a lot of respect for
or I did it one time. But by the time Vince got him, he was way overweight, weight done,
Vader, you know, Sean versus Vader and Summer slam 96. That was a world title match. Yeah,
but this was kind of, this was also kind of fucked up. I mean, not really for it. And not really
anybody's fault. Sean and Brett was gone. Kevin was gone. Scott was gone. There were Mark, the
Undertaker was hurt. There was nobody. Brett was out. Brett wasn't gone. Oh, yeah. Okay. You're right.
Yeah. Yeah. Brett was out. There was nobody for Sean to wrestle. They throw him in this match two
weeks with they had no build up managed by Harley race at this point. Was he not? No, that was in
WWE managed by Jim Kordnetch. Yeah. That's right. You are correct. Um, at one point, Vader was
working so stiff. Sean actually steps on his face and yells out he do something horrible match. And
it's Sean couldn't even elevate it. He doesn't say what a bit terrible for in your house. And I've
seen Sean elevate some guys who were stiff, Stonecoasty Boston comes to mind. He elevated a lot of
guys who were normally stiff workers, a Kevin Nash. He couldn't even say that I'm looking forward
to doing this show that you and I do every week come February. I had to put CNN here for somebody.
I'm looking forward to when we start looking at your your Hall of Fame nominees for this
year. When we can talk about these guys every week and maybe instead of this week in wrestling
history, which is a feature of the show, maybe we take that time and dedicated to whomever they
reveal that week. Because you and I have some great conversations about these guys and I'm really
looking forward to that. Um, number seven, just two of these guys don't need to be in the main event
for a world title. Jeff Hardy, CM Punk for the world title, SummerSlam 2009. But, but we all know
why this happened. We all know why this happened. Jeff was going to get one more run.
Oh, yeah. Before he went to TNA. I just when I saw that when that was being booked, I was like
well, no, no, no, you remember this was Jeff loses he leaves. That was it. Yeah. And everybody was like,
okay, here's the big sendoff. Jeff is going to lose this man. And then he wins it. And then you're
just going, okay, I just missed a meeting somewhere. Yeah, this was badly badly, but if you remember
this, I mean, ton of failed spots. Jeff's not a nut. And I know there'll be some of my listens
that will agree with this. Jeff Hardy will never do anything to change my idea that he's not
a main event guy. He's a midcard tag team wrestler. Yes. And, and him and him and Matt separately
does not work. It's, it's, it's just, it's hard to watch. Yeah. I just, Jeff's Jeff Hardy's not a
man though. It's now he's doing a lot of work with Kenvy. Exactly. Because, and there's nothing wrong with Jeff.
But he's not a single guy. He's just, and Matt's not a single guy. Number six, the
mounting versus the big boss man. Number six, I'm not anyone. And this was your classic
summer slam moment this week. We didn't have any program. The loser spent the night in a New York
city jail. The mounting. Um, the mounting member, the shock stick. Oh yeah. This was one of your
corkies, you know, back when Kim, the mounting. Yeah, character wrestler. If you remember,
the mounting had a hell of an icy strap run. He really did. I mean, he was a guy that was
shock ruse. Yeah. I thought in the ring as far, maybe not character, but as a skill set,
mounting was a pretty good technical wrestler horrible gimmick. Yeah. And that Vince will do that.
Number three worse for your real man's man. Oh, yeah. Okay. Number five,
um, never understood why this went the way it did. Uh, ultimate warrior versus Hunky taught
man at the inaugural summer slam, 1988, Madison Square Garden. Hunky taught man. It had a two
year intercontinental title run. The match was set up when Bruce Barbara Bifkeck, who was actually
injured in a boating accident, and they rode into him, being jumped by Ron Bass. And income's ultimate
warrior. Three seconds later, a two year title run ends to this guy to this guy. And I don't
know why that was. I thought they owed Hunky just a little bit more than him coming and get squashed
in 30 seconds. Yeah. I didn't understand why that was warriors bit, though. Yeah. Is it him and
Hogan at WrestleMania the longest match he ever wrestled in that burn? After that, the warrior takes
off and probably one of the worst probably the if I had a list most hated wrestler he is number one
I hate him about within the industry within the industry. I just didn't I didn't like the get the
bit. Um, I thought it was a Hogan with face paint. It's all it was, but and and a bad Hogan with exactly
and it whatever. Number four, you had the match that was great at the 94 summer slam and you had
the match that had to follow that great ladder match. These all versus King Mabel at the time that
would have been back in Pittsburgh. It was a man on a mission. Yeah at one time he turned on mode
by that point and then became viscera. Yeah. Um, so that was summer slam 95 there in, um, Pittsburgh
didn't need it. I just didn't need it. I think it. Yeah, but I didn't even had to defend the
belt against somebody. The highlight of this match was Nash power bombing. Yeah, the in spot,
horrible power bomb, and he did it. Just not kind of like Lex slamming Yoko Zuna. The deal was
I remember Kevin, love Kevin Nash, but King, your kingdom is soon facing Armageddon. That was his
leak. Didn't unnecessarily. Number three, probably these next to our storylines that
wore me out during the roll is, and I have a point of contention here, but I'll let you say
about it. Number three, right to censor versus with first two sexy. That ended up, what was this
a dark match sir? It was on a card. I don't know if it was dark or not. I think this was actually
either a dark match or a Sunday night heat match. Well, it happened or free for all or something
of it. It happened, um, you know, at this time the two sexy was Brian Christopher
Lawler's kid, Lawler's kid, Rakishi, and Scottie two hot. Scottie two hot. And I have everything
I've ever read very popular guy backstage. And the right to censor was of course, um, of course,
Kamma, or as the godfather at that point, Molly Holly, Steve, Steve, Steve Richards, they kind of did that
bit. What the, the RTC parody exactly. He, T, C, who's all over Vince at that point for the attitude
era. Number two, the oddities versus kind of time. And the oddities we talked about this not too long ago,
one of the worst angles worst bits that this industry has ever seen. Didn't understand it. I did,
I didn't, I didn't, I didn't get it. It was a bit. Usually I go, I get it. This one was just kind of a
weird, very, very, very strange thing. Yeah, I didn't, I didn't try to get that either. Well,
who I was curgen was in that deal. Uh, tenta, uh, Earthquake was in the mask.
Luna Vaishan, the headbangers. Didn't they have, wasn't stable with them for a little bit? Yeah,
like they had one like normal person amongst them. But, uh, number Earthquake was in the mask. And
curgen was, we're entitled, yeah, Earthquake was we're in a Cartman mask. It was just a real
wheels off bit. The last one. And this actually, shockingly enough, was the main event of this
summer slam. It wasn't Brett Owen. Uh, this was one, actually, this was one of my
honorable mentions just because of what I think I'd have liked if, uh, neum leeson what
I got on both in it. Getting right off the neck and gun 33 and a third riding that lit.
I'd Liam Neeson gets in the, not Liam Neeson. Excuse me. Leslie, Nielsen. Oh,
I was wondering where you were going. Sorry, excuse me. Um, was on the lookout for the real
undertaker. And this thing, guys, you drink, drink, drink, drink, drink. Yeah, undertaker versus
underfakers, it's been come to known. This was almost a squash. This thing, this didn't take
go very long. And this was Mark. This was what I did like it was the cartoony undertaker. Yes,
the purple, but at that time, that was acceptable. Exactly. This was the one undertaker head on the
gray. The other one had the purple. Obviously, the purple one, but I'll be honest with you,
this was bad in how Mark ever got around. Maybe it was just your main event of a major that opened
the United Center in Chicago. That's right. The very first event after you,
I remember the summer slam sign actually had flames. Yes, I'm gonna prove it. Yeah, great.
That's actually, I'd like to walk sit down and watch that summer slam in a complete hole.
Yeah, we need to do that. The great call of seeing him home video. Yeah, I'm sure I'm sure it's
available on DVD somewhere. Maybe we'll see if like Netflix can get it to us. We don't have to buy it.
Well, we got through it. Our very first special edition. A little short tonight. Yeah, I mean,
well, these are not not a whole lot. Well, these, these aren't going to be two hours.
