The Clubhouse – Episode 12

Checking sound levels they look good and we are on the air. It is 8 o'clock on the east coast. It is 5 o'clock on the west coast.

It is Tuesday. You know what that means. It means it is time for the clubhouse with Rob and Cody.

I am Rob as always. I am joined by Cody. It is the last Tuesday of the month.

So you know what that means coming up here in a little while. We have some dear friends joining us. What are we calling this our fall premiere?

It is what they call it. In about a month. I haven't decided what I am going to do at this year.

Devils holiday out. You have never been put in the same sense that the word devil in your life. In Bryce Halloween.

It depends. I have worked so many Halloween in my lifetime. Last year's costume failed so miserably.

Monkey is what we were going for. Nobody got a bear. I got bear.

I got mouse. I got weasel. I got churbo.

He never freaking tailed. You and his bobby heen in last year. Weasel.

I still can pull that off. Die the hair blonde. Why didn't bear?

I had to open with this this week. I got to see these guys Sunday night. You've never seen Rush live do yourself a solid.

That's all I'm saying. It's my second time seeing them. Alright let's get into this thing shall we?

Well hold on. Oh. Some people can consider this part of that.

But we always start with mistakes. I have to be honest. Full disclosure.

I did not listen to last week's episode. So I don't, I'm going to willingly say that we were clean. Now.

And I don't know. I'll probably won't be listening to this week until this weekend because I've got a trade show for the next three days. Did you, did you hear anything?

I didn't hear anything. So we're clean. As far as I know nobody sent me anything or called me or okay.

He was a great George Blandaugh. You don't hear guys that are quarterbacks and kickers. 90th of 48.

They always showed George Blandaugh on a sideline about, looked like he was about 80 at that time. Yeah, but you know, he just bought him for 100 bucks. Wow.

Couple of great documentaries about that. 60 and 61 with the Oilers. And then he was bought actually by Al Davis.

And sent to the Raiders where he played mostly kicker. But did come in in some quarterbacks. I'm telling you this.

You've been involved in that. You've been involved. But very minimally.

Jeff Garcia is playing in this thing. Man, I don't know what happened to that guy. I always thought he was a fairly decent quarterback.

Or do you have to be completely retired? I doubt it would. So technically, he's retired right now.

Because I'm not ifing anymore. When this lockout happens. You and I have talked about this.

I don't know if we talked about this on the show or not. But we are both an honest agreement. That ESPN is going to go Hey Texas.

Hey Colorado. Hey Oklahoma. Hey Florida.

How'd you like to play out of Monday night? Yeah. And NBC is going to call a Notre Dame.

And they're going to say, hey guys. How'd you like to play a couple of games on Sunday night? We've got the airtime anyway.

And I don't know that the NFL understands that. That they will get hurt by college football. Exactly.

I think there's enough... enough people that like... The obviously light college football does monster ratings.

The rivalries. The pageantry. The passion.

That is college football. It just blows the NFL game away. And then if you take that away for one year or two years.

People forget all about it. In my opinion. I agree.

But now could the UFL be something that's a viable option? Could be. I like it.

You know, I like the XFL. Events had never shown his face or put his name on it. We were in agreement on that.

It would have worked. Events could have had his name on it. But if he hadn't tried to mix his other product.

We didn't need JR in the booth. You know what? I had no problem with that.

It was when the undertakers on the side were. Yeah, that's right. And the divas are hanging out with the cheerleaders in the locker room.

I don't find that intriguing, you know why? Because if I gave Washington a paper bag, they couldn't win their way out of it right now. They're terrible.

One, they destroyed Buffalo on Sunday. But the, on the other side of it, they destroyed Buffalo on Sunday. Yeah, and then Buffalo, you know, they cut their, they cut their quarterback.

The great Trin Edwards. I was starting two weeks ago, Bench last week. And it was picked up by Jacksonville today.

Um, they ran up a tab of a tune of $54,000. Well, and you have to preface this. They were taking wine home.

Well, here was the thing. But here is the thing with that. Offense goes to dinner together.

I am hearing strong rumors coming from the worldwide leader. Well, people inside the organization saying this is done. This is a done deal.

Now, we're assuming they're playing next year. Exactly. We don't know.

We don't know. I assume they're not playing it. I think it is a good idea.

I think five preseason games is beyond ridiculous. Yeah. That was getting stupid.

You know who your team is by game three. Exactly. You know.

That fifth game is nothing but guys getting a chance to be on TV. It's 45 guys fighting up about four spots. Yeah.

Yeah. I'm just... You know and I...

I think it's... It's going to... To me, it's going to freshen up the league now.

You'll have a lot of players still try to pull their stuff where they won't want to play first couple of games of the year. I still think you're going to have some guys. Yeah.

I still think you're going to have some guys try to pull some stunts and not play. I still think that's a huge, huge, huge possibility. You haven't...

But, what if you still... No, I was going to... I was trying to do the math here.

the math here you still couldn't start it you still have to start early yeah you still have to because you only get that one weekend because I was in the Super Bowl but the other side of that coin too is you put that week back in you take away the buy true yeah because it is the buy really that important I maybe see if I'm somebody like the Cowboys or the Buccaneers and I get a buy in week four I would rather have my I'd rather have the bottom of the year that's what I'm saying I'd rather have the buy in about week eight or nine because that way I know where I'm going now maybe for Dallas and to see my Tampa Bay after such a getting crushed by Pittsburgh maybe that's good for them but to me if I'm a team like that when I want to get my schedule I'm like give me Halloween week off let me have the halfway but I'll think it'll be fun I'm just kind of curious how they're gonna determine are we just gonna take two at large teams I'm kind of curious about scheduling I want to see how they're going to schedule it yeah that that happens but I think it's a great idea but you're gonna have a lot of you have a lot of stubborn horses out there with those players I just I just don't think it's gonna be this one okay we're gonna do it you know Roy not Ray Lewis has come out and said something about it Tom Brady's come out and said something about it the players are not on board with this I'll tell you what let's make a deal with the players you come work for my pay for a year I'll work six months for your pay a year and let's see how that works out oh exactly yeah the crowd maybe a millionaire I think that bit in the United States is getting old I think that's what's why college footballs come on to be so big people are tired of the people are just tired of the the millionaires crying about wanting more money and I want to work more and take a pay cut I agree it's ridiculous I agree before I'm making of them Saturday boys well don't we have oh this after this I I write the run she think I would know what was on it I'm just saying let's talk a little college football let me let me get some college football music ready for you sir if I may like an old friend getting ready to meet again oh I probably cut that off a little too quickly that's okay we're gonna talk about these boys here well they got smacked it is time it's for college football talk if you live in this region of the country or if you pay any attention to college football you know that the next two weeks are critical and we're gonna start with a game on a local front that in my opinion is not getting the national coverage that it should and I don't even have a horse in the race yeah the thing about it is you know this this oh you Texas I've been man I can't remember the last time I've missed this game just I can't remember I've got a buddy who's gone to this game for like thirty thirty I think it's thirty and twenty straight this game it's got a very extremely different feel this year it's not for the national title game I don't believe either of these two teams will be in Glendale Arizona well one of their fan bases yeah I like Oklahoma I'm obviously a lot of people know that I just don't know if this team with this young players can do it but you but you can say that on either side of the oh yes incredibly young and this is just one of them years where I just I don't know if each team is better than the other one but it's an old rivalry the cottonball and Dallas they just put two million dollars into that joint and it's it's still OU Texas it's still that rivalry started in 1900 as a practice game you're not even count and you know Oklahoma won a state till 1905 1907 so they started playing this game what is what does that do for me I all of a sudden we've gone to American history yes and I'm it's my 10th grade year it's Mr. Downey's class and a portable at Coconut Creek High School what did I just miss it's gonna be it's gonna be it's still the passion it's still the it's still that hatred you can take records out of this you can take all this you can take all that of it I think a lot of it is it's gonna be the team that's most physical at the point of attack which is a lot of scrimmage in the trenches on this ballgame Texas looked as bad as I've ever seen a U.T. and we'll talk about that here just they looked bad I'm gonna say something what what's the line now three it's four it's four I'm telling you this game nobody runs away with this so I'm at any point at any point this this game is five points or less yeah I'm telling you I just don't I just don't see now Oklahoma does if you go back to the Florida State game Oklahoma does have a tins to they can dominate you I just don't think Texas has any playmate do you think Bob still got something in the bag yes that he hasn't shown in the loss of Jordan Shipley for Texas has been unbelievable they don't have that playmaker the meal to feel that can make a move on a linebacker and get open on critical plays and their big Mike Davis they're not even sure he's gonna play he's our leading receiver leading receiver on on for four Texas and he's got a knee injury and he's gonna be a game time decision that's not good so Texas down another weapon I just Oklahoma could win this by double digits will they I don't know I think that the four points is about right I think Oklahoma wins this I don't think it's gonna be pretty and I don't think I don't think it's it's gonna be a run on yeah it's I think it's gonna be one of those games that's gonna come down to a miss you a fumble a pick but but to me those are exciting to watch it I'll be by the chair I'm not gonna yeah penalties are always a big player in this game this game tends to get a little chippy oh yeah so a penalties it I think you're gonna have a lot of guys that are gonna want to get chippy yeah they haven't really won Oklahoma got a few seniors on defense who's never won so I think you're gonna have some some chippiness out of that too but always a great game in one of those games that I think is you talk about great robberies Ohio State Michigan OU Texas Army Navy I mean Alabama Auburn Florida Florida State it's right there in that deal with those guys I think it's a surpass some I think it I think this rivalry is a big Michigan and it's I think it's you Michigan I think it's surpassed Florida for state personally yeah because Florida's just been dominating that thing for so long well speaking of teams showing up a teams not let's get to it I don't have a lot this week just because there weren't a lot of great a lot of a lot of teams out there club and baby seals out there real easy opponents nothing really going on oh not that kind of cloud I'm sorry who showed up this week first and foremost you're the champs until somebody tells you otherwise except on the other side of the coin oh didn't get a curvy on that one yeah Arkansas showed up this week they did they did mallet did you see the numbers on this kid yeah but 25 of 38 for 357 yards they put just as many yards on offense as the champs did they were identical what's your missing a stat on there three three picks three picks three picks and that killed them right that untimely pick in the end zone that killed him I mean Arkansas left about ten points on the field that day seven different receivers let me ask you this big day let me ask you this big day from that kid and I may need to go back and listen to our college football preview again could this be a sleeper team in the SEC yeah but right now they need a lot of help you got to have somebody beat Alabama but it's a wide it's a pretty weak field too yeah but you've got to have Alabama lose two conference games and I just don't see them unless Florida gets some Saturday then Auburn shocks the world well then let's talk about Auburn speaking which nice segue and Cody doesn't even know what I have on my paper very nicely done sir Auburn 3527 over South Carolina Cameron Newton Mike it's a beast I haven't seen thing like him since 16 of 21 for 158 yards and two touchdown 25 rushes for 176 and three more touchdowns yeah this kid is a beast is a beast and he's the closest thing I think we've seen from a Vince Young that can really pick an offense up or a team up well I think there's another one on his back old Tim Tebow but I'm talking about another one in college right now up in the great set of Michigan yeah I just I think I see more from yeah I see a lot of that in him but he these these kids can in this kid not only that Denon Robinson I think in order for him to take the the things in the days of Big Ten football especially when Nebraska yeah yeah very slow football conference he just put some meat on him that Cam Newton buddy freight trains on the track brother yeah and I hate you know what I you know in Garcia had those four four fourth quarter turnovers for South Carolina two fumbles and two picks by the backup that just shot that out of the water my only other team I have to show this week Boise State we said beat Virginia Tech beat Oregon State 3724 and the reason I put them on here ranked opponent I was listening to a national guy that night and I'm gonna tell you they didn't wow me a whole lot Saturday not watching that game I wasn't impressed I just looking at the numbers 469 yards total offense Kellin more their quarterback 19 of 27 that's over 67% passing 288 yards three touchdowns they were nine for 14 on third down six different running back seven different receivers now I'm not drinking the cool aid yeah but I don't I don't remember if you remember me calling you on Saturday and I said let me tell you something as of right now that beeping sound you hear is Boise State backing into the conversation because the field is not so dominated by anybody they can now start the arguments and this is where on one hand I'm excited because I'm all about BCS chaos but on the other hand I'm what I'm I want it I got Albert Fudds syndrome today of I think that she wrote one of the greatest soundtracks songs of all times and all for love from the same thing soundtrack which is the very first soundtrack Friday selection for old school jam if you don't follow me you don't know so far sister aged badly but you know what I'm gonna disagree with you there sir because if you watch some of their newer footage oh yeah I'm talking at one time okay yeah and one and looks better now that she did not for a while but she got the wills back on live still getting it done so she got the wheels back on and we did lose a couple of of big any Fisher who we know is the father of Carrie Fisher uh-huh passed away this week glorious steward not a lot of people knew who she was that that's why I kind of didn't bring this up but she was a very very big star in Hollywood back in the day DVD releases this big one here and I'm gonna hold off on buying it yeah Iron Man 2 drops today great I'm gonna wait till I get the whole Avenger set cuz you know they're gonna do yeah you know once this whole thing usually Bruce from the eyebrows she was rose in the boat um usually these kind of sequels fall flat but if you have not seen that very much see a lot of people had a problem with with the pacing of it I loved this by my favorite of my favorite lines probably should have led with that yeah yeah I just I love that scene I get War Machine I'm happy I get War Machine you know that's all I need also this week I don't know if you saw this in this aired on HBO the 25th anniversary rock and roll Hall of Fame concerts this thing was three and a half hours long and it was some of the coolest combinations of artists that I mean man throwing stones playing with Fergie huh Metallica played with somebody I mean it was really neat I liked it I don't know if I had owned it but I liked it also family guy partial terms of endearment this was an episode they did last season that never aired this is an episode that deals with a very hot button topic that even Fox went new this deals with the a B word also known as abortion oh see and why why they were gonna air it and then they weren't yeah they were and then they weren't yeah it comes on there's seven downloadable songs that come with the DVD yeah I mean they had their season premiere this week I have not watched it yet get him to wore last year I kind of wish that jets would go back to the to the New York Titans I kind of I threw this on here that's pretty recent the Texas Ranger with the three-piece jersey the sleeve the sleeve I like the sleeveless you like that buck show alter brought that in because it gets so hot and text in the summertime where a nice lump both thin t-shirt underneath it and you're going to get that's your Yale West champion yeah oh the situation but that is that's my list little sportsy on you I know some people usually don't do that yeah Chad you're absolutely all right the bucks mascot's nickname is buck bucko Bruce that's more of a cavalier he had more of a cavalier look to him but I like the the Tampa Bay mascot he's kind of fun better than rowdy who's the little nut out and y'alls y'alls uh stands that looks like he needs being the black hole in Oakland maybe look for that where's all the make up you know what I think is the is the creepiest name for a mascot who's got the marlin's mascot's name is what's that Billy Marlin and let that sink in and Billy Martin's a dead he had three different jobs at Steinbrenner yeah the house of Steinbrenner when they named him I just sat in my house like oh Billy Marlin oh no no what rowdy in in a rowdy out anybody in a rowdy out he's been gonna come out yes he's not a lot on the field he's so in the sense he's not a lot on the field at all he's not a lot at training camp at all now that's Jerry Jones junior you know that right is it really I don't think so sir well the pendulum comes back to me now we get any idea I'm not
