Red River Madness, NFC East Shambles & Arena Football War Stories | Three Wide
Three Wide at Scout at The Statler covers college football's Red River rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas, analyzed alongside NFL Week 5, highlighting the NFC East's struggles (especially the Eagles' loss to Tampa Bay), the Cowboys' narrow loss to Tampa despite strong quarterback play from Dak Prescott, Jacksonville's emergence as a Super Bowl contender, and debates over quarterback safety, practice intensity, and the future of tackle football.
About this episode
Key takeaways
- Red River rivalry is unpredictable—record and rankings are irrelevant; both defenses played well despite the high-scoring game
- NFC East is weak with only one team over .500; the Eagles and Cowboys are inconsistent despite offensive talent
- Jacksonville has early 1990s Cowboys DNA: accurate QB (Trevor Lawrence), explosive defense, reliable kicker, and complementary running game
- NFL quarterbacks lack full-speed practice reps and game-readiness due to no-contact practice rules, contributing to decision-making errors in crucial moments
- Youth tackle football participation is declining sharply; flag football will likely become the international standard within 30-40 years

Q&A
Why shouldn't bettors favor either team in the Red River rivalry?
The game is unpredictable year-to-year; unranked teams frequently beat ranked opponents, and records don't matter in this rivalry—you have to throw the records out.
What makes Jacksonville a Super Bowl contender?
They have an accurate quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, a fast and violent defense, reliable wide receivers, a strong running back, and a kicker—matching the formula of early 1990s Cowboys championship teams.
Why did Jayden Daniels' late-game decision hurt the Commanders?
With the ball in overtime, he held it too long instead of throwing it out of bounds to stop the clock and let the kicker attempt a game-winning field goal, costing them the game.
How does lack of full-speed practice impact NFL quarterbacks?
Quarterbacks rarely get hit in practice and don't face live-speed scenarios, so their bodies aren't prepared for game-day impact, leading to poor decisions and missed reads in critical moments.

Hello, Internet. Holy cow. It is that time again for Three Wide.
My name is Rob. I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse Podcast right here at Sunset Lounge live every Thursday night, eight Eastern five Pacific. We are live at this.
This is a scout at The Statler. If you've never been down here downtown on Commerce, one of the coolest spots that we're gonna talk about here as we do Three Wide every Tuesday at this time until two days after the Superb Owl in February. But we don't call it Three Wide for no reason.
I am joined on either side of me by absolute greatness. To my left. Oh, thank you.
Hall of famer. A man who is not afraid to let it fly, and if he ever held back, it would crush my soul. The hammer Greg Williams is here.
How are you, my friend? I am doing good. How are you doing?
You know what? Any better. I might be twins today.
Yep. It could be. Because it's time to talk football.
Yep. You are. And you are got TCU baseball out.
I'm digging it, my friend. Yeah. I just thought I'd throw this on.
Okay. It's alright. And to my right.
Horned frog. Another all star here at Lounge DFW. My dear friend.
Not a hall of fam. Guy who is in for the long haul every Tuesday because he'll be hosting beer thirty sports o'clock just after we get done. He is Ziggy.
How are you, brother? I'm good. Hardworking.
Hardworking. Celebrating. What a wonderful weekend.
You did not have a bad A wonderful weekend. Thank you. Well, let's just...
Thank you. We get to the NFL, let's talk a little bit of college. Oh, yeah.
Because Please. This past weekend in this town is it's a... I I can't call it bedlam because that's a different game.
No. But the Red River rivalry, which you have to see Nah. I call it what it is.
It was absolutely a shootout. It was the shootout. Even though both defenses came to play, it was the shootout.
And the reason it was called the shootout is because everybody was almost scored 30 points each. Well, plus the fact that this is the game The over under was 39 and a half for Christ's But the... But this is the game that both teams circle on the calendar every year.
Super Bowl. You cannot... If you are and you are a betting man.
Oh, yes. But if you are a betting individual, Greg, go, I think you can back me up on this too. I would never bet on this game because these teams, there's just something different about this past Saturday's game.
I've seen this same scenario many times. Many times. You know, an unranked...
One of the teams will come in unranked and and win the game. Win the game. That's it all the time.
But it it just one of those... You know, I I hate that old sports adage, throw the records out, but you really do. Yeah.
In that game specifically. Absolutely. You really do.
And the the way they set the stadium up and, you know, it's neutral field. It's in the state fair. I mean, it's...
You know, they've been playing it for a hundred years. Yeah. It'd be crazy to play.
There's nothing like that overhead shot right before kickoff where one half of that stadium's crimson and the other half is burnt orange. It's the best time to go to the fair because nobody's doing anything at the fair. Yeah.
It's so cool because they only have one tunnel. Yeah. So both teams have to come out the same tunnel.
Come on down. And it... The...
Since they they split it down the 50 yard line. Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
The end zone where everybody comes out is the OU. Yeah. Yeah.
And so Texas players have taken some serious abuse over the years. Barry Switzer told a great story one time. He said that he was standing there with president Gerald Ford, and he was talking about that, you know, the the rednecks at Oklahoma, how they'll embarrass you.
And so he was standing there and the team was about to come through and he was talking to president Ford and some redneck stood up and goes, hey, who's that son of a bitch out there talking to switch her? Boomer. And both of them looked right at the guy.
You guys interviewing Barry was one of my... One of the highlights of my week in those days. I love when you guys would have him on the show.
And We did a show with him for a couple of years. Oh, yeah. I loved it every week and just tremendous.
You wanna talk about just leave the wheels in the garage because you're not gonna need them. Oh, he But then we get to Sunday. We'll skip the Gators, but we'll get to Sunday.
No. No. No.
No. No. We're not moving past that because they cost me money because unlike you two, I bet on Saturday, I bet the over because 39 and a half is disrespectful.
Vegas was trying to trap bet some of you fools that took the under. Yes. These defenses were great.
Yes. Everyone expected Arch not to have a great game. Well, everybody on the OU side.
All the Texas fans that believed Arch was the next coming. You wanna tell people what you texted me after I texted you there? Well, look at that text.
Your response to me was March is his daddy's son. He is daddy's son. I keep telling y'all that.
He is his daddy's son, and I don't care about athleticism for shit. He wasn't a quarterback. His uncle was.
His other uncle was. Man, you are your daddy's son. Sit your ass down.
He has lost so much stock because of the last two games. Ohio State put him up on a pedestal when he came back in the fourth quarter. I gave him props for that.
But Tennessee, he looked like ass. OU, he looked like ass. I'm just saying.
Well, this week, they... I think he'll be fine. Because even though...
I mean, they're hosting Florida. Yeah. And and my Gators can't win their way out of a paper bag now again, and I can't figure it out.
But I don't understand what's going on in college football right now, though, because it's like every single time we have LSU, Ole Miss, boom. Then Ole Miss shits the bed against Florida. Then Florida beats Ole Miss, and now they shit the bed from Against Mizzou.
Mizzou. And then they... Who lost to the Gamecocks this week?
Oh, it's Oh, no. It was Florida last last week. They lost to Mizzou.
Mizzou. Yeah. And then they lost week was got all these transfers coming in.
Yep. You know? And you've got six weeks of of camp.
Right. And so the first three weeks of the season, nobody's playing anybody. And so that's basically your preseason.
We're just getting into football season now. Yeah. There have been some good upsets.
There's been some But I mean But the belief has always been for college football, the season starts the first week they announce who the playoff teams are at that point, which I believe is next week. Yeah. When we get the first rankings of the playoffs.
The best rankings. That's pretty much irrelevant right now. I mean Really?
Yeah. Because you're gonna get the best teams in. I mean, there's gonna be...
You know, you're you're gonna get some boys But do we know who do we know who the best teams are? Have not I don't think Boise State's gonna be left out. I actually have them making I just use making They're just my whipping.
They're just my whipping boys. Like that. Because they...
Because they're Boise State and they're they're irrelevant. And it's teams like Boise State that hold college football back. Hell, no.
They gave us Ashton Genti. Yeah. And and to have stayed for and It's not like he won rookie this year last year.
Not like he rushed for a thousand yards. Listen. And He was on the fucking raiders.
I have to sing from this conversation. If he's this great, he... No.
I'm saying right now, it's... All it is, it's minor league football masquerading, carrying You're not wrong. Carrying the school names.
Yeah. That's all it is. That's why I don't understand why these teams just don't sell out.
Sell your football program to a huge They can't because basketball can't do. Because basketball still has a chokehold. March Madness is crazy.
We had this discussion the last time we got They're they're gonna sell that too. Yeah. Maybe.
Now if they No. No. They're gonna sell that too.
Steal it in. But then that that And your and your volleyball and your swimming and your diving and your golf is gonna go away. I don't know about golf.
Golf is golf is a rich man sport. They're not gonna let that ride. Well, let's get let's get into Sunday because that's why we're here is to talk NFL football.
Oh, I mean And we'll start with Thursday night. I I have deemed this week in the NFL is the week where defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory. Listen, man.
Because that was the that was the pattern. The NFC East is a joke, and this shit was the greatest week to see it on display. The Eagles are in shambles because they are not the real Eagles that we've known for the past ten, twelve years with the maulers that they had in the front and the great wide receiver core that they had.
They are not the same. Well, let's let's start there. Let's start there.
Let's start there. Okay. Because we gotta talk about the Cowboys too.
Are in this town. I'm coming to the Cowboys for Thursday. We'll go to Sunday morning.
Next week. Yeah. Let's start let's start with Thursday.
We'll go to Sunday morning. Alright. At last week.
It's weird. Allow Tampa Bay to come in here and roll. Well...
And it's weird to me. Do that. I I don't care who you are.
If you've got any aspirations Hold on. You don't allow that team See, this is hot. This...
But hold on. I think he's got a point here because I said last time I was here At home. The NFC South is the American League West of the NFL this year.
No. Because a team with a losing record is gonna win that stupid division. No.
Not this year. But Not this year. But the way I saw this team and a team especially coming into this game barely at 500, it felt like they were looking past a winless Tampa team when this team, in my opinion, does not have that option.
You have to play full throttle who's in front of you, especially now that we're almost... We're past the quarter pole, boys. Well We're past the quarter point in the season by week and by number of games played.
So here's my point about that. Right? So so I watch everybody.
I try to watch everybody not for the sake of just because I... Beer 30, but because I just love watching football. Shout out, Red Zyla.
Literally, it... Shout out to the Sunday ticket too because they got me too. But I literally watch everybody.
And I went to Tampa to watch Tampa play Green Bay. Love that stadium. Tell you that stadium is crazy because they have no type of cover from that sun.
My face is still sunburned. So when I tell you that Tampa this season was one of the only teams that have lost by six or less points this season, you wouldn't believe me because they're o and four or they were o and they're o and whatever. Right?
But when you watch this team, one, their quarterback, he couldn't... He can run. Right?
Jalen Daniel or Jalen Jalen Daniels. I don't wanna say Jayden, but he can run. He couldn't...
He was nervous the first round if you wanna say against Green Bay, but he could ball. He can throw the ball. And on top of that, their defense is still pretty good.
They're not great, but they're not horrible. They're not cowboys. Yeah.
But that's the prettiest girl and ugly party in this division. Hold on. Hold on.
Because unlike the cowboys whose offense is carrying the torch, because all this trash talk y'all have about Dak, he is carrying his damn team. Carrying his team. Dak is carrying this team.
Right. Not the offense. Dak Prescott's pickin' is Pickens is a beast.
City Lam is a beast. I mean, Jalen Williams, y'all done found something with the running backs. So here's what I'm saying.
I think that you are correct. They overlooked this team because of record. They weren't paying attention to film that these boys come to play.
These men come to play. And Tampa came in and said, look. We are playing with house money.
Nobody thinks we are good game. There's a team with nothing to lose. You're right.
Nothing to lose. But still, you shouldn't... This team can't look past that team especially In the NFL.
Grego, when you're going now, you're going to the frozen tundra. And I looked at the odds before I left the office to come here. Oh, yes.
Right now, the Cowboys are only getting a point and a half at the frozen tundra? They shouldn't be favored at all. Hold on.
I I let let Greg go have you say here. Who knows? A point and a half?
I mean, who knows when it... Well, first of all, you get three points for being at home. Thank you.
And so you're you're almost just always swing. Talking about the four point swing. Mhmm.
You're almost to a pick up, which to me, looking at the way Green Bay played this past week, I finally got to say, you know what? I can say Zicky's team did something as they opened a can. Hey.
Listen. It's the bears week, man. Bears week.
We hate the bears. Ben Johnson opened up a can of worms and wrote a check that his ass can't cash. You cannot say f the packers after a playoff loss that we had in our hands, in our grips.
We had that win, and we let it slip away. You did nothing. You didn't do anything.
We lost that game. You didn't win that game. We lost that game.
I appreciate you censoring yourself. So... Yeah.
But So But but what what do you see out of this team, Greg, after Thursday night and then having to go almost polar opposites of the teams you're playing? It's it's it's very simple. I mean, the...
This team, they they made a lot of moves during the off season. They brought in a new defensive coordinator. You know?
And you got three rookies starting, four rookies now. You got eight new people in there, a defensive coordinator that's 34 years old that everybody says is gonna be a great coach, is the next hot thing, and it hadn't happened yet. But when you look at the Cowboys, there's...
I always look at two stats at the end of the game, and it almost always tells you the story of the game. And that is third down conversions and time of possession. Yep.
And cowboys are getting eight up on both of them. Yeah. And you combine that with a nonexistent cal...
Pass rush. Yeah. Yeah.
I don't know how you You're averaging one sack per game. Here's the here's the thing. The Cowboys offense this year is averaging 27.6 points per game.
True. The defense is giving up 27.2. You have no margin for error.
A field... A missed field goal here. Yeah.
You are. A fumble here. But you ain't know.
Hey. Get back here. Yeah.
And you and you lose the game. Thanks. Or win the game.
Which they had opportunities but couldn't capitalize. But then we go to Sunday morning where you sound like every time I'm done, which we have eight injections before the game even starts. Hey.
Told you about Jacksonville the last time you won beer 30. Jacksonville is a violent contender. They are here to fight.
They are not here to play nice and let's play foot... No. They are ready to kill everything on the field.
Move. Get hit. Move.
Get hit. And nobody plays overseas more than Jacksonville. Yeah.
Because Jacksonville is But until the last couple of years, the joke was they were visiting their new stadium. Yeah. They they go online soon enough.
Years, the Jacksonville Jaguars have have started to open the throttle a little bit. I'm... They didn't dominate that game.
Let's be real. It was a feeling that Chiefs should feel. Had a chance to win that game.
I mean But other teams where things got nuts. Minute... We live in a world where Minnesota's five and o, But their next five...
Let's look at their next five for a minute because I did this with both of your undefeated teams left in the league. They're on the buy this week. Mhmm.
Indy, Detroit, Buffalo, Packers, Niners. That's... For the most part, that's a gauntlet.
Would you gentlemen agree there? Oh, yeah. But who knows?
For sure. So here's my... The only reason I don't think it's a gauntlet, and I hate giving credit to...
Because they're the NFC North, and we all know I'm a Packers fan. And I am here strictly to to talk about my Packers. Okay?
I had a great weekend out. Got those white helmets. Yeah.
The rivalry shirts, you know, they aight. But, anyway, the difference between them and the other undefeated team, the niners, and everybody else is that damn defense. Dallas Turner is a monster.
Dallas Turner cannot be blocked. He is... Think he's averaging almost two sacks a game and a whole lot of pressures.
So I just think that, like we talked about last time, I think that the Vikings defense is real. The niners are definitely for real, and they proved that against the Well, I said on this show two weeks ago, there's two teams I believe in right now, Buffalo and San Francisco. I don't know.
The first one I hate saying because, you know, I'm a doll fan, and that's a whole different section for a whole another time. Right. But these are still the two teams I believe in because one thing that the Niners seem to have that not a lot of people are understanding is depth because everybody wanted to talk about the injuries that the 49ers have had coming in.
But you know what? They're still winning games. And they...
That that game was my favorite game of the week to watch. Mike Evans is a Hall of Famer. Forty niners Seattle was insanity.
Yeah. And I was fully here for it. Oh, yeah.
MVP. Black party. On the other side of that coin, they...
We had Cleveland and the Jets. Ew. Who wants to talk about the toilet bowl?
I... But we have to talk. I mean, we're gonna talk about quite a few of the games.
But my but my question for you is this, and this is to both of you gentlemen. Because one of these is your team and the other one is your absolute rival. How much do you trust...
We'll start with Green Bay. Because I've been riding with the packers all season in our in our picks on our show. Yeah.
Sunday was great. For sure. Great job.
Two weeks ago was not. I hear you. So how much do we trust Green Bay?
And I'm gonna go to Grego first because it's it's... That's a homer pick for you. Greggo, how much do you trust the packers at this point to be who, as a wise man once said, who we thought they were?
Well, they're gonna have they're gonna have have to run the ball against the cowboys. And that's been their trouble this year running the ball. Yeah.
You know, I mean, love... I've I've never been really sold on him, but he had a good game Sunday. Yeah.
He did. And they're pretty athletic. But, man, if you put that coach in a coaching decision late in the game, he'll he'll gaff you out.
And so will Schottenheimer. Both of them will. So do you see this as a war of attrition?
You know, the cowboys, they traditionally play pretty well in Lambo, but weird things happen. Ziggy. So It's not the frozen tundra yet.
So. Right, here's We're we're getting close, but it's not the frozen tundra yet. So the cowboys don't have to worry about weather.
I'm a say this. If we're talking for season, do I trust them? Not really.
I think they're still figuring out this offensive line. I think that on defense, they have they have caught lightning in a bottle, with Gannon as the defensive coordinator. And I think that Zaire Franklin was a great add.
I think the secondary is coming together. The rookie that they drafted, Brandon Seis or Cece, he Not gonna have Micah. He's he's No.
No. Micah's not playing. And I honestly He's not playing.
Honestly, I I I kinda I kinda don't want him to play this game. We don't need to We don't need him yet. We don't need to They need him healthy.
We'll need him during the season. We'll need him during the season. Bigger problems today.
He just blamed Jayden Daniels and... On his... Do you see what he said on his podcast today?
Yeah. About that time, was Jayden Daniels for how do you not know you don't have no... It's overtime.
Both of you have to part in my point about the NFL. If you are an active NFL player, you can't go public and tell another player that he's gonna get his coach fired. He is.
He is. Well, maybe he is. That's not...
Well, okay. Alright. If you wanna do that, speak the truth.
Go ahead. But that'll tear a locker room apart. I've seen it.
Only if. Only if. No.
No. No. Only if.
Only if we start losing. Only if we start losing. Well, it's not like they're undefeated, sir.
You're not undefeated. You're acting like they're they're 85 bears. No.
We're not undefeated, but we won the games that we're supposed to win. We lost. You did?
We we lost. Really? Yeah.
Yes. Have you seen... So, again, I wanna go...
So I wanna... Let's dial it back real quick. What you need?
I wanna let you you're saying. I wanna go to NFC South real quick because we're in a lot better shape if you had running backs that weren't beating women. First off, he didn't beat her.
Well, you know, well, he pushed her down. Is he playing? Domestic violence.
Is he playing? He's not playing because I haven't seen the video. He's letting his team down.
The video. That's why he's not playing. Okay.
I agree, though. He shouldn't be on the team. Whatever.
I'm not saying that. No. I mean, if if if it's domestic violence, you should not be on the team.
You should not benefit from from being able to abuse. What you don't I don't I don't do that. You're like the Green Bay Packers are the best team in the NFL.
They are my team. If I talk trash about them, that would be insanity. I just said I don't trust them for the whole season.
I'm a Bucks fan and a Dolphins fan. Talking trash about our own teams is what we do. The Dolphins might go o for.
So you And I'm a... But I just wanna see the differences. I accept my face.
So here's the thing. Will we make the playoffs? Yes.
Do I think we'll make it far in the playoffs? No. Say that right now?
We're three and two, and we've lost some... We lost a dumb game to the falcons who we were not expecting pinnings. I don't know why not, but whatever.
Might have been lost again. And we lost to the Vikings who are undefeated and who have the best defense in the league. Listen.
Do I think that we are going to be... Like I said, I don't think we're gonna go far. I think it's gonna be a first round out again, and we're gonna be upset, but we're gonna make the playoffs because a lot...
The NFC East has got one slot. One slot. NFC North may have two.
NFC West may have two. And the NFC North is like the SEC, man. Yeah.
No. No. No.
And I agree. I I... Like, I agree.
That's what I'm saying. So you can downplay Detroit all you want, but they score a lot of score. They score, but they can't stop it.
Know what you know what teams do that score a lot of points? Mhmm. They wreck everybody else's seasons late in the season.
For sure. But we only... We play them kinda we play them kinda...
I think we play them, what'd you say, the next five games? Let's do that. Let's let's talk about their next fight because going up to the buy Yeah.
Cowboys at the lions Yeah. Hosting the panthers Uh-huh. At the patriots hosting Minnesota and then the buy.
We got a long and... We got a long I hate that. I hate that we have such a late buy, but And then you got the night before Thanksgiving game because that's when you're hosting the Rams.
No. No. We go to LA.
We go on... Going to LA. Game.
I am going to that game, and I I wanna go to LA Stadium. I don't believe in the Rams. Okay?
So let's just put that out there first. Said that from jump that I I don't I don't believe in Rams. All teams that do this Madden thing where they try to buy every superstar and all this other stuff, they never end up winning it that year.
They always look suspect. Now the Rams look good the other, Monday night, but but I just don't trust them. I don't trust them.
They they You know, I'm not I'm not falling for the rope, though. Yeah. You know why you don't trust them?
Because they don't have the thing that's more abundant than anything in the NFL, and they don't have it. A kicker. No.
They just released their kicker. They fired him today. I know.
My god. Said that about the Jags. That's why I said that about the Jags.
There are backup kickers that can routinely make a 60 yarder. Hey. 60.
Well, hey. We talked about this. But we talked about this.
Get a dome. Well, it's not really a dome. Well, we talked about this couple of weeks ago.
We're now in a time that if you can't kick 60, you can't play this league. You gotta go. That's how come this That's all you gotta do.
That's how come right now. You know, you were talking about Jacksonville. At the beginning of the season, I've got Jacksonville in the Super Bowl.
Yeah. Yeah. There you go, Gruber.
And I'll tell you why. Because I can't tell you how much they remind me of the early nineties cowboys. Okay.
Okay. Stud quarterback that puts the ball on the money and is accurate as anybody. Lawrence is the...
He's the most accurate passer there is. He can put it wherever he wants to. Yeah.
They are so fast and athletic on defense. Mhmm. Violent.
They've got Love it. They've they've got wide receivers you've never heard of that all they do is make catches. Yeah.
Parker Washington is having a season. Oh my god. Be the best young coach in the league.
Oh, and don't forget about their running back. Their running back to tooting is is tooting or whatever. And he's a beast.
And they have a kicker. Yeah. And now all you have to do is get the ball to to to midfield Hey.
To which to which Trevor Lawrence can do that. And they're much like the Cowboys were equipped to win at the time. Yeah.
I mean, they were... They they had a great running game. They could control the clock, and they had a devastating athletic defense.
That's how they won. That was the recipe then. That's not the recipe now.
But the recipe that Jacksonville has, that's what wins in the NFL these days. Yeah. And And being in that division helps too.
And and you know how the Cowboys Mommy. You know, it was all San Francisco, and all of sudden, who's the Cowboys? How they jump up here all this way?
I miss that rivalry. I do miss that rivalry. Well, that's...
It... It's it's still there. You may have one with Kansas City.
Kansas City and Jacksonville. See, I've got Kansas City picked to win the whole thing in a last dancer. Wouldn't surprise me.
Because Kansas City outside the box. They can't keep getting away with this. They can't.
I hate the seahawks. I'm so glad they lost this Sunday because you deserve to burn in the pits of hell for letting Kenneth Walker go out the door. He was your Super Bowl MVP, and you let him walk to fucking Patrick Mahomes.
And now Patrick Mahomes looks like his old self, and the Chiefs are gonna win the Super Bowl. See, and that's and that's where somebody them. Said to me the other day I about about Kansas City is nobody's talking about the Chiefs.
Well, they don't have to. Right. You've got a hall of fame coach.
You've got a tight end. This is his last season. Hall of Famer.
This team does not look like this next year. This is why I believe this team is on a mission and they frighten me. Now you look at...
They're... They were on the buy this week. Yeah.
They've got chargers who gonna charge her. No. And they're already charging.
Oh, berate. Alright. Over under two games of Mike McDaniels being fired.
Over. They'll let him get to the midseason. Hell no.
They get embarrassed by the Chiefs. He's gone. Over.
He is gone. Harbaugh wants to fire him now with them stupid ass glasses on. Hey.
There's there's talk that Herbert may be on the block. Yeah. Like, it's time.
Well, last year, they said they... There was a time where they were looking at trading. And it's kinda weird that, you know, where they're targeting?
No. No. Minnesota.
Fuck. I'm like, what? Well, when you're starting quarterbacks five three That's true, but he's got them undefeated.
Respect the height. He's got them undefeated. He does have them on...
Well, kinda. He kinda. Yeah.
I was... He didn't play two games, but... Yeah.
No. He definitely. But that's the thing is it's...
That's Hey, man. He looked good Sunday. He did look good Sunday.
And that's another reason why I'm kinda like, you can't sleep on the Vikings, I know they're in my division. But I'm just saying It just goes on and on. I mean, there's there's these quarterbacks, and there's one in every era to where that that's...
The the football world is bound and determined that they're gonna be a star. And they have labeled Justin Herbert that. And the guy is k...
He is KP. He can't play. No.
Facts. He is garbage. Hot garbage.
You know? And and they'll make excuse for it. Yeah.
Well, he's missing all of his offensive linemen. Hey. This is the NFL.
That happened. Right. And no.
And now he... Wait. Wait.
In the beginning of the season, he had all of them. They went o and three with all of them. Garbage.
Okay. You because the way you see it, explained last year. Yeah.
I'm Yeah. Exactly. He's crazy.
He's Then Kansas City gets Seattle. And, again, that you have no Finished in it. But if but if they're Then Denver Oh.
The Jets in Atlanta. Que qual. Que qual.
Well, Atlanta depending on if Pennix is playing. Because see, that's the thing. So back to the NFC South.
Glad you brought up Atlanta. Goddamn it. Because I don't appreciate this shit.
And NFC South has made a step in the right direction. The panthers look good. Can...
Bryce Young can score with... I don't think he can score with anybody. Not buying the rope.
But, Caroline, Atlanta got... Atlanta has good enough defense and a good offense. Drake London...
And with Pennicks. With Pennicks, I got a preference. With Pennicks, they look good.
And we are three weeks from the beginning of the Atlanta meltdown if history has shown us anything. New Orleans, I'm not buying it. Yeah.
I mean, they... They're gonna put up a good fight for everybody, but it's not their time yet. Somebody better get their rear end of gear.
Did you see what the owner said? That Gail Benson? What?
She said today that that she will not accept this level of play. Oh, yeah. Now I don't know what she's gonna do about it, but when an owner comes out with something something like that.
That pointed Right. We will not accept this level of play. That sounds like a lot of people are about to get fired.
My thing is, though, is you can't fire Kellen Moore because the offense is clicking. Right? So you gotta fire some of the defensive coordinators.
She's gonna say she sounds like she's pretty pissed. Listen. I understand that.
You know? But, you know, listen. Emotions are high when you're losing.
But my thing is is is I feel like the saints are... It's just not their year. Like, they they will end up being a force to be reckoned with in the next two years.
Like, I don't think this year, Shuck is a good quarterback. Olave is a great receiver. Kamari is on his...
Kamara is on his I was gonna say, Kamara is the... He's Kamara clock is ticking. Yeah.
He's on he's on his last legs. But that's what I'm saying. So you get a running back and some offensive line and then a couple young players in there.
I think they'll be alright. I think it's just not... They're not there yet.
They're still in the You ring just wanna lift up the Superdome and slide a whole new team in. I mean... Kinda like Arizona.
Everybody feels... Everybody...... Right in in...
Well, when everybody... We need offensive linemen. We need this.
We need that. We need that. I'm saying, like, little p...
I'm not saying the whole team. I'm saying, like, you gotta add a couple pieces in there. I I just think that the disrespect for the NFC South is is crazy because I think I think it's warranted.
I mean, from past seasons, sure. But I think if you're watching the NFC South, they they can... Again, the Panthers scored in a game that they lost to the Bears.
They put up 40, 50 points. Like, we... What are we talking about?
Nobody has done that this season. But Carolina better stack up some wins. No.
For sure. Because they've they've got about five or six more games with their quarterback than he'll be out for the year. No.
Okay. Well, I don't think... The NFC South as a division is six and nine right now.
Again Six and nine? Again, but one of those teams was o and four. No.
There are no offers in the NFC South. Was. Was.
One of them was o and four, and the other one was on a bye week this week. So that's that's a that's a mute stat because the NFC East... Pull up the NFC East stats.
The NFC East right now Only has one team that is in over 500. In a world where the Giants are in first place. I'll tell you.
Which even Alex doesn't understand, and that's his team. Yeah. I'll tell you how bad the NFC East is.
Right. They're so bad that they went winless and two teams played each other. Come on.
Yeah. What are we doing? Is $10.
That's terrible. Can we go to college overtime? I I love college overtime.
I... Ties drive me to the brink unless it's hockey. Well, you know what?
They don't... They can keep playing. Yeah.
They they don't have to stop that. I think that is perfectly fine the way it is. They've changed the overtime rule.
They changed enough rules. The kickoff rule can be used to be There should never be a tie. You think My thing is that it's it's too good.
All it is. Quarter to score. Is the NFL trying to be like soccer?
That's all they're trying to I mean, making it a mistake. They are making it an international game. This whole this whole game is transferring into...
Taking all the assault out of it, taking all the violence out of it, taking all the hitting. I don't know about all the violence. And and now we we eliminated ties for a while.
Now let's bring them back just like soccer. Don't know about just like soccer because There should be no ties. There shouldn't be.
I don't understand that. Ties. I understand that.
Listen. As as a person who's team tied last year, I thought it made me sick to my stomach. Here's what I think.
When you buy a ticket, you buy a ticket for a competition. There has to be a winner and a loser. So if it's a tie, give everybody their money back.
Well, the world They haven't seen anything. FIFA would disagree. Well, they haven't seen anything.
FIFA would disagree. He said soccer is I mean, I'm just saying. You ain't...
Do you... I dare you to ask people for your money back. I tried.
They they they almost got me. Okay? Listen.
I would have to spend some money with before I can tell I'm just saying If you don't notice in the real story, Greg, I'll pass him after the show. Oh my god. I'm a cuss every three seconds in that story.
But... No. So what I I do think the tie thing is kinda, you know, messed up.
But again, the each team gets an opportunity to have the ball. All you have to do is play to win the game. Just kick the field goal.
You got with fumbling with his concussed dumb self. All you had to do was move over to the right or move over to the left wherever your kicker wanted it. Kick the field goal.
Here's the madness of that ending. My god. I was watching Red Zone on Sunday.
I watched shit live. Okay. It was No.
I mean, I was watching it live for Red Zone. Red Zone played that with the commentary Everybody. Four times.
Yeah. Everybody was like, what are they doing? Like, not just the sequence.
You got the guys in the booth. Yeah. You got the whole feed.
And it's just... I looked up and went, I'm sorry. What just happened?
What are you doing, Jayden Dams? It is Jayden Dams' fault. I don't care.
I I... Listen. It it is Jayden Dams' fault, but it's also the coach's fault because how did this not come up?
Hey. We got the ball back. Get maybe 10 yards, throw the ball out out out of bounds, and let's let's go.
Let's get the kicker on the field and win the game. We both had the ball. We both had a chance roll.
But At some point, your quarterback has to be the leader, and he's got Thank you. That's why I said that. He has to look over there and say, okay.
The coach, he's got his head up his rear end and doesn't know what the f he's doing. So you know what I'm gonna do? Snap me the damn ball.
Snap me and throw it out and deal with the coach later, but you've gotta save time. And for you sitting there going... Looking at the coach going, hey.
What do we do? What do we do? What do we do?
But let's say they do. But You gotta take But we're sooner or later. But you're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't.
No. Because if they try the kick and they miss, then the discussion is, well, you should have gone for it and gotten the first down and then gotten in the end. Well, this isn't the first time this has happened.
And that's management has been his problem for a long time. Very disorganized team. And let's not forget this dude blew a 25 lead Yes.
In the second half Yes. In the Super Bowl. Super Bowl.
And that should be hung around on his neck forever. That should never be forgotten. But he's always...
That's a disorganized team. It looks like Hey. He he looks like one of those relatable coaches that all the players like.
He's their bro. He wears his cap backwards. He's a cool guy.
He hangs out with them. You know? And, you know, then you put your team out there, and they lay an egg and make you look like an idiot.
But Because he looks like an idiot. And now you're at the bar by yourself because people don't like to hang out with losers. Well...
And then I also think... I I think cowboys gotta be a little... They gotta chill on this because Dak had the same brain fart not too long ago.
Literally, last year or the year before. You know what? And and you know what I'm saying?
So, like You know what the problem is? The problem is these players, they don't know the rules of the game. They don't know the basic rules.
They don't know that. And they don't work enough on this stuff. They put them in those film bays, and they let them watch film for hour upon hour.
They don't work on certain things. You gotta remember. This is the only job where you only have to do your job 17 times a year.
And that's the only time minimum. That's the only time you do your job full speed. You know, if you're a baseball player, you're gonna face live pitching, and they're gonna try to get you You play basketball?
Oh, they'll have some five on five games. You never get that in the NFL. No.
And you and I have talked about this. They they are getting out. Well, plus No.
Because they don't practice. They don't... They Quarterbacks are never hit.
And they're not in full pads. No. They're not going full speed.
You know what when they do go full speed, your body's not prepared for that level of impact, which is... And I've said this for years. That's why they're Which is why we have so many injuries, which is why we the game is where it is because you're not letting these guys' bodies take the actual impact they're gonna take on a Sunday afternoon because I guarantee you, the guy on that side of the line isn't gonna pull up because that's the food off his Now granted, you know, quarterbacks haven't been hit in practice in a long time.
Long, long time. And probably Haven't forget if you put a pinky on them in practice. Now that...
That's gonna get on ESPN because both sides are gonna brawl too. But but I can remember cowboys in practice in the early ninety. Man, they hit running backs, and they hit Emmett Smith and took him to the ground.
Well, Oklahoma trails. And they don't do that anymore. And how many broken tackles are the cowboys having?
Because you don't practice what you do. Yep. It's like a NASCAR driver going all week and doing nothing but being in the simulator and then throw him out there in the Daytona five owner and go, okay.
Now race with the car. Have fun. Yeah.
It's... They don't get to practice their craft. They've gotta be they've gotta be in their element.
And I... I'm I'm not saying you've gotta go full speed all day every day, but you've still gotta have enough full speed that you're prepared for Sunday. Think about it.
When when... Say a team doesn't make the playoffs and their season ends the first week in January. Okay?
That quarterback will not be hit until the first regular season game the next year, nine months later. Yeah. That's the first time he will be hit.
But my question is this, though. Right? How can you get better?
You think Roger Stolen Waterback would have been good if if he'd had never been hit? Well, the game is played different from when Roger Stolen Waterback played. I'm sorry to tell you.
You just said the damn... The the Jaguars can't win like the Cowboys played back in the nineties. Right?
So Roger Stolen Waterback is... Roger Stolen Waterback was a runner as well. Right?
Was he not a scrambler and used to, you know, run through people? Yes. I I never watched the game.
When you weren't allowed to run, but if he if he knee... Roger Stolen Block would be Patrick Mahomes today. Okay.
That's who he would be. I got Fair. So so But he wasn't allowed to play that way back then because nobody did.
But my thing if it is then because the quarterback is so valuable, because if you think about it, you just said it about Jacksonville. Jacksonville has the quarterback that's accurate as a... He can throw that ball on a dime.
Then you have you have the Jalen Hertz. You have the the... We were just talking about Justin Herbert going to Kyler Murray's team because Kyler Murray's only five six, and he's not a great quarterback.
So the quarterback is too valuable of a position to let one of your own... Like, that's friendly fire. That's shooting in the dark when you when y'all all playing paintball, y'all just running a dark room together.
I'm not saying to bring that back. I'm just telling you that's a problem. Yeah.
But but my question is And there's and and there's no solutions to it. I was gonna say there's there's no real solution. No.
But I don't I don't think that... I think players, to your point about getting injured, believe a lot of players are getting injured because of the violence of the sport. Like, these defensive linemen It's not as violent as it used to be.
No. It's not. See these fools punching the ball out, and there's no flags for this when they miss.
When they miss and they punch somebody in the jaw, they do not get flagged for it. And I've seen it a couple of times. The ball in New York got knocked out.
I wanna ask you a question. Okay. Do you really think the game is more violent?
No. I don't think it's more violent. I don't think it's more violent, but I think it's Because you do, I'm gonna take these headsets off, and I'm gonna walk off.
No. That's fine. I don't think it's the most idiotic football take I've ever heard.
Think it's more violent, but I think it's faster. It is fast. It fast.
Is faster. No doubt. Think about this.
Right? So Charles Haley. Right?
Charles Haley was one of the greatest defensive linemen to ever put on pads. Right? Charles Haley is not nearly as fast as a Miles Garrett or hell...
Or or Hines Allen, from Jacksonville. They are... They...
These defensive linemen are three hundred pounds, six whatever, three hundred pounds running four second 40 yard dashes. You had at least two of them in the combine this year. Yeah.
We didn't have that. But in the nineties Graco's not saying he disagrees with you because the game is faster. Right.
Yeah. But It's not as violent because because back then It's not as violent because you could get away with more back then. Yeah.
Well, you could you could hit quarterbacks back then. Not facts. Yeah.
But I mean... And even still, you can hit quarterback. Listen.
No. You can't. Aaron Rogers Oh, he got...
He he... Aaron Rogers took one. Jordan love Jordan love the game in Atlanta.
Man, listen. Or the game versus Atlanta. Listen.
Hey. Hey. Let me tell you.
The shot you're talking about that Aaron Rodgers got hit. That's a hit. Hey.
Let me tell you. Every one of those refs were looking at each other. Were trying every which way in the world.
Yeah. It was a clean hit. But it was a clean hit.
It was a clean hit. They wanna throw a flag on it. Same thing with Josh Allen and them.
I'm telling you, in Troy Aikman's year in in '89, I've never seen a quarterback get that abused. They beat him to death. But that's what I'm...
But see, the problem is is that then you have the stories of Detroit Aikman story of where there is a full playoff game. He does not remember playing because he was that concussed. He doesn't remember a thing from that game.
That is... It is... It goes dark when he thinks about that game.
You can't have that because at the end of the day, this is still just a game. Right? So you don't want anybody to literally die from a game.
So, yes, I understand that it's not as violent as it used to be. But with the speed and the rules and the and the the the techniques because some of these players get through these offensive linemen. Like, there...
These are literal car crashes every time they hike the ball. You are taught... So my thing is But that's way it's always been.
But that's what I'm saying. There's no way to take that part of... There's no way to take violence out of the game.
And and my point to the quarterback part of it is that your quarterback is too important because it'll literally change the season. That goes out tomorrow. Well, the season's done.
I I don't think I don't think the discussion is that the game needs to be less violent. No. A tackle football.
A reason the Pro Bowl games fell on its face. Nobody wants to watch flag football. I don't wanna watch flag football in the Olympics.
There's no reason to bring back break dancing before you bring that battle. I'll bring back. You will.
Not. I'll bring break. I will.
Oh, hey. That's it. It's fun.
It's fun to watch. Let me tell you. Let me tell you.
That's gonna change football forever. Ever. Yeah.
The Olympics... The the flag football Yes, sir. It's coming.
Because it's gonna be an event like the world's never seen. It... Well, it's gonna be here.
We're gonna put But it better be because flag football on television, if golf is is too fast for you They're gonna figure out a way to young people that are doing the the NFL flag program, I love watching those games because these are kids that are out there having fun and whatnot. I don't want it in the Olympics. I just don't.
I think you're a long enough. It's gonna be there, and it's gonna be wildly popular. I hope so.
And it's... That's where it's going. Yeah.
I mean, in another thirty or forty years, there will be no tackle football. There will be no tackle football. I don't know.
I... Because I mean, we've gotten rid of the Pro Bowl altogether. There will be no tackle football.
But you get... I I don't think so because rugby... Think about rugby.
Rugby has the least concussions of all the sports besides It's a it's a play different. It's a play... It's But that's play what I'm saying.
Like, it's a play... It's definitely oranges comparison because But it's not with just scrum and everybody just doesn't know what. Okay.
And what about hockey? What about those guys are wearing more Hockey. Pads than They don't have face masks.
They literally They have to now. They have to have... That's...
They're mandate to wear. Look screen. I'm talk...
They have visors. Yes. What I'm talking about, I'm...
The... Their teeth be out of there. Out of there.
There's no way. So my thing is is if you don't hear about all the concussions and all the craziness that goes on it with NFL, right, that you hear in hockey because one Ziggy, you can see it starting. No.
No. I'm not football. It is down 70%.
Yeah. Because tackling tackling that young is crazy. Go ahead.
I'm sorry. Okay. Alright.
The mothers in this country are not letting their kids play. And you you had a two a football team in high school that folded because they didn't have enough participants. Kids aren't playing tackle football anymore.
Now there's an illusion there is. You look at high school football and and they they draw 40,000. There's an illusion there is, but in youth football, it's not playing.
It... And it's going away. And they wanna make it an international sport, and they they can't do it if it's tackle.
But you can do it if it's flag. You can do it if it... You know what?
Those Belgians that that that they won't put on a helmet, but but you know what? They'll they'll grab a flag. I disagree.
Those French people aren't tough enough to play football, but they'll run out and try to grab a flag. I I disagree. And the reason I disagree is because, like, the youth football out there is...
It's out there because we wouldn't have as much high school and... It doesn't happen overnight.... For sure.
It doesn't happen overnight. It's not... Thirty, forty years, listen, I...
At that time, I don't I don't even know if I'll be enjoying football by that time. You know I don't know. You know what?
Forty years ago, there was no such thing as youth soccer. None. When I was growing up, there was no youth soccer.
None. Now it's more popular than Little League Baseball. We had it in my town, but where I live, it was a little bit different.
I I I... Yeah. I...
I'm '66. I graduated in '78. We had...
There was no such thing that... It it was football. It was tackle football.
And You had the NFL, though, in those days. Wasn't that the... With Pele and and The North American soccer league?
The NFL. Yeah. Yeah.
That that was that was the thing then. But you're right. It wasn't it wasn't what Major League Soccer That was an outlaw league.
That that was where a bunch of greedy businessmen got together, and they went and shot a bunch of outlaw Europeans that were basically felons to come over here. And I I I... God.
I wish I could remember some of the names of of the The New York Cosmos was who played That that was... He he played for that. But Philadelphia had a real good team, and and they were, like, just fanatics.
I mean, they'd fight. Yeah. I mean, this was a rough league.
I mean, it it was an out... It was a lot like arena football in the beginning. It was an outlaw league.
I miss arena football. Oh, the the best time I ever had in radio was the three years that I did The renegades? Desperado.
Desperado. That's who they were. Yeah.
Renegades is the is the XFL, USFL thing. I had so much fun. Coach Joe was the coach the first year, and they just turned me and George Dunham loose.
They let us do I can imagine. They let us do whatever we want. We had everything.
Ever? We had the... Were they That was broadcast.
Oh, I'm like, oh. Where the bench was, we had it wired up. Oh.
We would take phone calls during the game. I... I've never had so much fun.
And and they were looking for publicity, but the Cowboys owned it. Yeah. And the Cowboys owned the desperado.
Well, they had... For some reason, they had their own dressing room at the stadium, like, when they don't play here. We had so much fun doing that and and got to go to great arenas.
At at the time, I got to go to to the Long Island Arena where the where the Islanders play. They played in New York team there and it was it was it was a lot. Yeah.
Nassau. Yeah. Nassau.
I couldn't remember that. But they played the games on Saturday nights. And so you'd have all the white trash and all the bikers and all the gamblers and everybody show up and that have fire and and that have motorcycles.
A team at one point. That's exactly what it was. Oh, wow.
And and everybody would... It was a party, and everybody drank and get drunk. It was the biggest party ever.
And then they tried to make the NFL out of the arena. And they moved it to Sunday afternoons, and they couldn't get a crowd. No.
Yeah. You can't do it. Not not on Sundays, man, especially especially in the nights with white trash.
Yeah. Woah. Man.
We played a game in in Orlando, and they had a fight in the stands, and they had to turn on the lights and stop the game. Damn. Oh, me and George were doing play by play on it.
It was tremendous. And I... If anybody has recordings of these, I I need this in my life.
No. That's okay. Oh, man.
It would... And we would we we would say some of the most outrageous. I can only imagine.
Yeah. You too. Right.
It was... Like I said, out of everything I've done in radio, that's the most fun I've ever had was doing color for... And I knew nothing about it.
I I I did see 21 points scored without any second... Any time going off the clock. What?
You could you could could feel the ball off the net so it never... The clock No. Here's how it Yeah.
The Desperados were down by 20. They scored a touchdown, cut it to 14. They kicked off.
It hit the pole. They recovered it for a touchdown. They kicked off again and did the same damn thing.
Yep. They scored 21 points with no time off. That was the arena league, But you know what?
They have a rule in the arena league that the NFL should run. You can't run out the clock. If you don't gain a yard, the clock stops.
So there's no new... There's no newing down. You know what?
It just the atmosphere. I remember I went to a game. And they were in Reunion Arena.
They did... But they did play in in the AAC because I saw them there. One year.
And between the third and fourth quarter, just to fire up the crowd, they played the... In its entirety, the Chris Farley, Patrick Swayze, Chippendale sketch, and it whipped the place into a frenzy. It was insane.
What? That... This was the atmosphere of arena football, bro.
First of all, I wanna know why does anybody rob Well, in Tampa Tampa and Orlando had one of the best rivalries in arena football. Oh, wow. Was in college.
You had the Tampa Bay storm. And Arizona Rattlers. And there...
Yeah. Arizona Rattlers. Danny Danny White, former cowboy quarterback, was the coach.
Yeah. Wow. It was They had a guy.
So much fun. They had a guy from Linden Kildare named Hunky Cooper. And all the sidelines name.
All... Remember the sidelines were just all pads. So you...
It was like watching hockey. Guys would just check other guys into the wall. And most of the players, they were bitter football players that didn't make it in the NFL, and they'd go out there and just destroy people.
You had to go both ways. Yep. You had to Wow.
Only Because it was only a 50 yard field. Only the quarterback could could could go one way. See the quarterback again.
We saw the quarterback. That's where Kurt Warder came from. The Iowa Barnstormers.
But he was a big in groceries though. He was but he was that's most of those guys had other jocks because he didn't pay. He wasn't even good enough for the...
He was arena too. Yeah. Wow.
The Iowa Barnstormers. Remember those helmets? The gold helmets with the with the Aviator glasses on.
See, Dan Snyder owned a team. Jeff Lurie owned a team in Philadelphia. The the, Morris, they own the...
So they all Bon Jovi owned the the Philadelphia team at one time. Did an interview with John Bon Jovi. Me and George Dunham.
Because he owned... Was the Philadelphia Stars. Was it...
I think it was a spirit or something? I can't... I I should know that.
But John Bonjoe didn't like me because the first thing I said was, man, I didn't know you were so short. I've got a great bunch of girls. I looked over George Dunham and he was just he was just red, so embarrassed.
We are back three wide wide at live at scout at the Waldorf... At the Statler. Statler and Waldorf are the guys in the thing at The Muppet Show.
I always get those confused. But we are at The Statler Hotel, the historic The Statler Hotel. This place is amazing.
If you like sports, if you like hanging out, come on down because Ziggy's gonna be here for the duration because beer thirty sports o'clock is coming up shortly after we finish up here. Get here. Remember the password is football.
Hey. We'll get you get First round? Free drink.
Yeah. Or half a half and then half of... Yeah.
Yeah. Half parking. And half parking for valet.
Listen. Just get here. Okay?
Football, all you need to know, football talk, beer, and bowling. Damn it. Who don't like all those things?
Literally five bowling lanes in this place. And they got the basketball game in the back. Like, listen.
First time of the season, all 32 NHL teams are all playing tonight. Yes. I'm Rob.
That's Ziggy. That's Grego. Welcome back.
We are talking football. And, gentlemen, let's get into week six for the... We only have one game on the slate this weekend that's got double digit point spread on it.
Oh, I was like, what? What do mean? Well, that that is the Rams giving 12 and a half to Arizona, which Arizona great uni is terrible.
You know, it's... That team is rough. But let's talk about Thursday night, which I...
I'm looking forward to Thursday night this week. Seattle goes to Denver. After the battle they have with the Niners, now they've gotta go to play another very good team.
You're the champs until somebody tells you otherwise. Ziggy, have you tried PrimeVision yet? PrimeVision?
Yeah. Watch Greg, have you heard of this with the Thursday night game? I don't do that.
So they have... It's on Prime Video. I don't do that.
So... But they have a special way to watch the game where all the all the players have chips in their helmets. Mhmm.
And so you literally watch the play unfold and you watch the the division... The the... There's, like, mapping of the routes and stuff, I think it's fantastic.
I didn't know they called it prime vision. It's called prime vision. Okay.
Alright. So I have done that once or twice on accident. I had old man with the remote, on accident.
So... It's like that new progressive commercial. Play the football game.
Yeah. Play... Exactly.
Hey. Hey. Do what I say.
No. But... Yeah.
So I've I've only seen it, like, once or twice. But I... Listen.
I think prime with the sound off is better. I don't like Kirk Herbstreak doing college and NFL. Well, I don't either.
You know what mean? Like, he just... Don't I don't really like...
And and you know what? He's good at both. Well, he's he's not very good.
He's just good. I think I I think he's I think he's tremendous. College is really good.
Yes. College is really College is just meat potatoes. I I think he's really good at the NFL, but I can't take him serious.
Yeah. I just don't like it. Maybe maybe that's what it is.
Maybe I just can't take him serious. You know, if he were to say, I don't wanna do college anymore. I'm gonna do NFL.
I think he'd be pretty good. No. But he's gotta stick with college.
That's what he's I'm just using that as an example. If he said that, I think he'd be one of the top analysts. But I heard.
He's got too good of a deal going right now. What a great deal. So I've heard though his deal is actually crazy because his deal is he does it until they find somebody to replace him.
Really? Yeah. Like, has no guaranteed contract for for the for the commenting or for the games.
And it's... But who would you get to replace him? Like, I just, I mean, besides Romo right now who's a free agent, but I just...
I don't really see it. I don't know. I just...
Prime, I watch with the with the sound off. I'm not gonna lie. I watch with the...
Troy Aikman may be available. True. Yeah.
His contract is coming up at this Very interesting. Oh, his contract's over. After the season, though.
Right? He's Yeah. He's over.
Saying. Yeah. And they haven't even contacted him.
Joe Buck is in front you every Joe Buck has signed up. Hey. One of these days, these networks are gonna figure out, you don't have to pay these guys $30,000,000 to call your games.
I mean, that is... Golly. Are you...
I mean, they're... Fox is paying Tom Brady $32,000,000 a year. Per year.
And I mean, but No. They wouldn't pay it if they couldn't afford it, but I'm just saying in the future, they're they're gonna start looking at that because Well, I've always said salaries aren't gonna go down. But I've been saying since the creation of the Sunday ticket that it's a double edged sword because on one hand, you get all the games, but on the other hand, you gotta have commentators for all the games.
So sometimes you wind up with the d, e, and f list announced team, and you either... Now what I do love is that on SiriusXM, you get the choice of either the home team or a weight team. Yep.
So what what, someone on a radio show that I listen to does, he mutes his television and then syncs up his SiriusXM with the team that he roots for. I do that on every Yeah. You don't do that on cowboy games?
I just... I I either... I'm usually on red zone, so I'm getting all the games at the same time.
I can't watch. I love red zone. Well, see, I'm a big red zone guy, but not during a cowboy game.
During a cowboy game, I gotta have I gotta have the full screen. Well, the other the other team in this state, I'm interested in this game Sunday morning because we now go to Wembley. Mhmm.
Houston plays Jacksonville. Jacksonville's already been there for a week. Houston better be there right now.
Well, here's my thing. To me, it seems kind of unfair because they... They're there for two weeks now, and Houston's got half that time.
They played game to play back to back? They played a game there, so it's not like they had two weeks of just shit. It's not like Houston couldn't have loaded up the plane anymore.
Right. As soon as they left. Right.
They... It's so they played on Sunday. You load up and head out Monday, and and everybody gets your break, whatever But if you're in Jacksonville When I played on Sunday, you go back and you chill.
You don't even have to get on the plane. You're still Not at the house. When the Cowboys played in Wembley, it was a preseason game.
Right. We were over there for a whole week. How how was Wembley for you?
This is the old one. The old Wembley. It was really cool because I spent the whole time doing nothing but, walking the halls, looking at rock and roll pictures.
Nice. Stadium. Nice.
Yeah. It was it was a... That was a fun game because the best part about it was that they played Detroit.
And they tied six to six with There goes that tie. A full quarter of overtime. So they played five.
So Preseason game. Five. That's good story.
Right? I I gotta be honest as I'm looking at the the slate of games for this Sunday. Nothing's really jazzing me.
Well, you got couple weeks. Yes. And that's...
We'll see. New England's given seven and a half. Well, that's...
The Jets have a good defense. So... New Orleans and the Giants.
Yikes. New Orleans is We have to find a way to balance the schedule. When I've got three mid afternoon games total.
Well, you have bi weeks. You gotta have... I mean, yes.
They need to balance that Yeah. Seven or eight early noon games. Buffalo at Vegas.
I... Are we finally starting to see the Raiders? No.
Well, they hadn't played anybody. When they did, they got destroyed. Well, yes.
But I feel like Drake May is finding his rhythm. Like, let's not... The Raiders lost to New England last week.
Yes. Am I am I am I remembering that correct? So Drake May looked bad the first two games of the season.
Right? But I do feel like Drake May was a Super Bowl playing quarterback. He didn't have a horrible season last season.
They didn't really play anybody. But, again, they're going on that same journey now. But When is your pocket of this is when I'm gonna place my bets?
So for Thursday night, either college or or NFL, it's it's Wednesday. Wednesday mid mid afternoon, football club goes across the country to play the niners. Ew.
And San Francisco at this point only given seven and a half. Hey. Listen.
The the... Again, the line moves so much card that had a chip in it, and you put the card in there. Right.
You could buy cards. Black market. You had to know No.
You had to unlock everything. Right? Know somebody.
But I thought they were orange. Right? No.
Orange or yellow or something like that. Or or just white. Most of the time, he didn't see it.
Most of time, the guy came there and did his one time, and you didn't get to keep the car. Yeah. So He got you into the system.
New York, we did a little different. I had a buddy We had a little I had a buddy who got one for his DIRECTV. I'll never forget this.
He got it because he didn't wanna pay for the WWE Royal Rumble. And so we were all at his house, and we're watching the pay per view. And the rumble starts, and stone cold Steve Austin comes out.
And he gets on the turnbuckle, and as soon as he does his deal, they zapped it. Like, they waited for the exact right moment. Well, they would send what they call darts.
Uh-huh. And they... It would destroy.
See, that's why I thought you had to have the card. That's why I was like, you can't just do it like But see, then you gotta call your guy back Yeah. And give him another $100.
Yeah. Yeah. It's all about knowing guy.
Yeah. Know a guy who knows a guy. Yeah.
You saw the cable guy. You know how it works. No.
I... Well, a lot of... Go ahead, Greg.
During the early... I didn't have cable until, like, 1983. You and me both.
Because Fort Worth Jesus. The... It it was so political, and you couldn't get...
It was Cox cable, and you couldn't get it. We had tele cable. And so I I feel so young right now.
They had everything wired in. Everything. Uh-huh.
And I was working at WBAP at the time, and the engineer went out there and just ran me a cord ran me a cord from from from the pole Yeah. Through a window That's how it worked. In my apartment and just hooked it up right to the TV.
No box. And I got everything about six months before they flipped the cable on. Yeah.
And that's... Back then The early the early years of outlaw cable was so young. Oh, yeah.
I feel so young. For some reason, HBO was the only one that had, like, a little trap on it. And you knew that if you could get to the...
Because it looks like, you know, the the boxes that are in, like, in the in the alley by your house, you have that... Where the Internet runs in? Mhmm.
That's what... Where cable came from. So the the HBO trap was just like a little coax connection that if you knew somebody that would give you the piece that would connect it to, you had free HBO.
It took Allegedly. It took hackers about one year Oh, yeah. To figure out how to Oh, yeah.
Tap into all this stuff. Yeah. I mean And then and then when they started going digital, they thought they were ahead, and that just that just compounded it because it was e...
Made it easier. Yeah. And if you were really making money, you had the big dish in your yard, and you were getting stuff from around the world.
I I worked at a nightclub, and we and we first had those where we could where we could get MTV. That's back when I when I was bartending. And at night, man, we would we would try to look at those porn.
So this is back before bar? What... After it closed.
Oh, I'm like, damn. What kind of freaking dick you had for like? Don't know.
We now we would've if we'd have thought about it. Oh my god. But but, and it was all scrambled.
Mhmm. But, man, we would sit there on the bar just looking at it and go, there's a boob. There's a boob.
There it is. There's a boob. And the way you had to get your channels is you literally had to either write down or memorize exact coordinates for the satellite to go to to get the channels.
It wasn't like a... Just a remote channel two, three, four. It was...
There was a science to it, and the dish was as big as your house. And it cost $10,000. Yep.
You had to be buying. I never ever wanna be... I never wanna go Like, I know some people are like, I miss the old times.
I miss it back. I don't... I never knew what that was, and I don't wanna know.
That sounds horrible. K? If I wanna watch porn, I could just flip over my phone and and get off with it....
Couldn't do it. There was no such thing as porn. No.
I... No. Yeah.
I Hey. Back then. Can I can I take back the last ten minutes of my life?
Can I can I do that? Hey. There was things called 9 brought it up.
You're not wrong. Hey. Back then, there was a thing called 976 number.
Oh, okay. Now we're getting way off. We can talk about that off air.
Yeah. But Man, man. But I knew a guy that him and his girlfriend Oh, no.
Started a service in Fort Worth and got stinking rich. Yeah. He made, like, a $500,000 in, like, six months until they caught him.
Father, I prayed. But it was just him and it was just him and his girlfriend. Alright.
Back to back to football. He had all the gay he had all the gay stuff covered. He had all the strength of the We got Rob over here.
Bright red. I've never seen Rob so red in my life. I pray to god this is not the first time...
This is not the night that my mom decides to watch this show for the first time. So many of you know that we have a Fantasy Football League here at Sunset Lounge. Oh my god.
I'm gonna be the one that's gonna open this door too, dunk on it. Don't update the people on how our league is going. And this is a football show.
I mean... Grubes is absolutely destroying everybody by night. He beat me this week by 50 points.
Collusion. Collusion. Right.
I dropped. Grubes is not running that team. I dropped from Jeff Staubach running this Yeah.
I was about to say, Grubes is not running that team. He's got Jeff Staubach running who's in second place for the for the for the people? That would be you, sir.
You are a game back. Rhyner currently has the bronze medal. He's not running his either.
No. He's definitely not. Norm.
And 51 are tied for fourth. Now Norm is running his, and he's gotta be bitter. He's be fourth.
Norm emails me every day about his roster and make sure, like, hey. Can you double check to make this? And, you know, because I'm now the lead commissioner.
Shout out to Alex. And, like, yeah, he makes sure, like, hey, I wanna pick up this person. I wanna do this.
Can you make sure it was done right? Blah blah blah. Like, he literally makes sure...
He is tedious as hell. I can... I guarantee I will have an email in my inbox by the time we leave tonight.
Do you remember how much when we were doing three wide with him, the the stack of paper seats? Yeah. He does not do it.
Habitual... Like, was on he was on Ali Gordon before Ali Gordon got in the game. He was he was in a baseball fantasy league Oh, no.
That was an organization where you had to have a 40 man roster. What? Yes.
And you had... You ran it just like a major league team. It was so it was so intricate, and it had to have taken hours.
Oh, yeah. Of course, Norm wins it. Of course.
It's Norm. Because he's he's writing everything down and... Yeah.
And right now Statistician. Paul Varghese and I are tied. This thing with the meme drives me crazy.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. What meme? Because you get...
You can win your game, but you can still take a loss if your score is below the meme. First off I know why it happened. Alex has explained this to me.
I hate that. To Alex. Alex.
I didn't set that up, and you know that. I didn't set that up. I feel like it was, set up for us, and I I I feel like it was set up for a great time.
We had a great time with that draft at Dudley's. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Shout out to them. But right tonight, we're at scout, and things are gonna start to hop a little bit. Oh, yeah.
I mean, all 32 teams are playing in the NHL. Start playing tonight. To where somebody is having a game started at eleven?
I know that the Panthers played this morning at, like Yes. Or it's afternoon at, like, one, and they they played it, like, three, two weeks ago. Mhmm.
I thought I heard I heard Well, today is also a national holiday, so you probably had a bunch of people that were off because it was a bank holiday too. No. Not today.
Yesterday. Yesterday was. Yesterday.
Month There was a there was a there was a hockey game that went up against the NFL? Yesterday was, indigenous day. Now it's not Oh, no.
No. Today's Tuesday. Today's Tuesday.
I don't know. I don't know why I was thinking it was Monday. Yeah.
How about I today is Tuesday? Come on. Wait.
It all blurs. Hey. Hey.
You got him with that boy with that porn... That fuzzy porn. He all scrambled now.
He like, wait. What? I'm all over this place.
I'm all over it. Me like Rob's mother might have caught it. Yeah.
Caught you 9769. Will neither. I will neither confirm nor deny any any rumors that may or may not have existed that are in my autobiography.
My boy was hot and heavy on the phone. Yeah. That's so funny.
Aren't there universities in trouble for this kind of thing right now? Hey. Hey.
Hey. Hey. We're not touching that with a 10...
I'm just saying. Not touching I feel like I feel like I'm being bullied right now. No.
Stop. Bullied? You brought it up.
No. That's not... You brought it up.
You brought up the director just talking about the hazing thing. No. Yeah.
No. I... And not talking about the other thing.
Oh, okay. Alright. Well...
Oh, lord. Back to this fantasy football. I just wanna reiterate that I'm second place.
And where is Grego? Grego is currently partnering the caboose. Tied with Don.
You don't even sign on to your team. It it aggravates the shit out of me. You just...
I tried to move and... Mac sits with...... It kicks me out.
He... I ought to kick you out of this damn league. You don't even set your roster.
No. My roster's set. I'm just not real good.
Because half the players on your starting lineup is injured, and you ain't even trying to adjust them. I know. Jesus.
It's a long season, Zig. Listen. It ain't that long.
Watch Greg go, like, rip off, like, eight in a row. Oh. And then we're here we're here at December, and Greg goes just, like What?
Killing everything. Mac? Mac.
Mac is another one that his name, he called himself Bi Week. Last year, it didn't matter. But this year, he brought he brought that to fruition for himself.
He's too late right now. Fucking Bi Week. Oh, destroyed him.
By the way, me and Gruber's, or Gruber's counterpart, we played we played this week. Is that... You got this week?
Yeah. I'm trying to look at the the whole... We got...
We we played this week. I'm I'm excited. But, yeah, this this coming week, I have...
I've... Paul and I are playing... Know that's signal fifty one's playing that.
Oh my god. Oh, we have to go to the next week. That's what's going on.
Yeah. Yeah. The way this thing works.
I don't know. I just work here. Mhmm.
But, I mean, we're having a good time. That's all that matters. Yeah.
And we want you to come down come down to Scout. Hey. Have we talked about Overeasy and their food, though?
You keep talking about it and I keep wanting to go over there. I'm a breakfast guy. Okay.
So I just want y'all to know that over easy is probably one of the low key underrated spots that you can get good coffee, good breakfast. Like, it's just... And it's so low key.
Like, it's just ducked off out of nowhere. And the... Like, the Statler has this theme for ducked off right now.
Like, the scouts kinda ducked off. You gotta walk in and actually go to the right and kinda do a little. And and they also have a speakeasy in the traditional sense, like, where you have to actually do something to get in the back.
Check out the phone booth. It's all I'm a say. But, yeah, like, it's it's it's such a vibe here at The Statler.
I'm not gonna lie. They have so many things going on between the waterproof, nightclub and and... Yeah.
Listen, man. The Statler, you know, if I can move in, I would move in here. You can.
They have apartments here, though. Do they? I thought they got rid of that No.
I was told they do. No. I thought they got it.
Well, and and unlike a lot of sports bars too, you can walk around. Yeah. It's not like you're you're, you know, you're testing your claustrophobia.
No. Yeah. Yeah.
It's great. Place like this. There's couches you can sit on.
They have live music on the weekends. You can go to sleep on these couches. You're not wrong.
The bar the bar service is great. Beer thirty Sports O'clock is gonna be here live in just a little while. Oh, but they've got bubble hockey here.
They've got foosball. They've got shuffleboard pool, five full bowling... And not the, like, the little bowling alley you see over at Shields.
They really have... That's a real honest to god, bona fide Yeah. AMF, PBA Oh.
Sanctions five lines of bowling over there. I thought you was gonna go down the list. Like, all the, like Those are the only two I could Oh, okay.
I was gonna say you got it. Got the big buck hunter over here. They've got a couple of the arcade one ups over here.
They've got... I mean, it's... There's something for everybody.
And the food's fantastic because good. You let me, partake in a little bit of the food with you on beer 30 with those lemon pepper wings. Lemon peppers.
Well, you better call somebody. Yeah. That's all I'm saying.
Yeah. So we are gonna wrap it up and take a break before the madness that is beer thirty sports o'clock hits the air. Wanna remind you, check out all the great shows right here at Sunset Lounge DFW.
