Balance, Benchings & Big Decisions: How the Cowboys Finally Looked Like a Team | Three Wide

October 28, 2026

The Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night in a game that showcased offensive balance—212 passing yards and 204 rushing yards on just 27 passes—marking what hosts called a potential turning point toward a winnable identity. Beyond the victory, the coaching staff made notable personnel decisions, including reducing snaps for Jake Ferguson in favor of Breven Spanford at tight end, benching George Pickens in favor of Jonathan Mingo, and leaning on Shamar James and DeMarvian Overshaw as linebackers over Jason Barham, signaling a merit-based approach to playing time.

About this episode

Key takeaways

  • The Cowboys achieved rare offensive balance with 212 passing yards, 204 rushing yards, and only 27 pass attempts, the cleanest offensive game in years with no false starts, no offensive holds, and no turnovers
  • Philadelphia's defense, despite being coached by well-regarded Vic Fangio, allowed 38 points and generated no sacks—the most points and fewest quarterback pressures Fangio's Eagles defense has recorded in 41 games this season
  • Coaching staff made subtle but significant personnel adjustments: Breven Spanford over Jake Ferguson at tight end, Shamar James and DeMarvian Overshaw as primary linebackers over Jason Barham, and Elijah Clark over third-round pick Siobhan Raval at safety
  • Despite facing backup quarterback Tanner McKee throwing two particularly poor passes late in the first half, the Eagles squandered a chance to take a one-score lead into halftime, losing yards and timeouts on a possession that could have shifted momentum
  • The Cowboys remain one game behind the Baltimore Ravens in the NFC East at 3-4 and must prove the balanced offensive approach and personnel decisions can translate to wins against stronger opponents like San Francisco, Seattle, and the Rams

Q&A

What was the offensive balance the Cowboys achieved against Philadelphia?

The Cowboys had 212 passing yards on 27 passes and 204 rushing yards, with Jalen Williams recording 155 yards. This included no false starts, no offensive holds, and only one delay-of-game penalty, marking one of the cleanest offensive performances in recent memory.

What personnel changes did the Cowboys make for this game?

Breven Spanford replaced Jake Ferguson as the primary tight end, Shamar James and DeMarvian Overshaw became the primary linebackers over Jason Barham, Jonathan Mingo saw significantly more snaps with George Pickens benched, and Elijah Clark played more than Siobhan Raval at safety.

How did Vic Fangio's defensive approach compare to recent Cowboys opponents?

Fangio's Eagles allowed 38 points and generated no sacks—the most points and fewest quarterback pressures his Philly defense has recorded in 41 games this season. Unlike Green Bay and Tampa Bay, Philadelphia did not blitz aggressively despite the Cowboys establishing a strong running game.

Where do the Cowboys stand in the NFC East after this win?

The Cowboys improved to 3-4 and are one game behind the Baltimore Ravens. They need to maintain this winning approach against stronger opponents like San Francisco, Seattle, the Rams, Jacksonville, and the Giants to prove this was a genuine turning point.

Hello, everybody. I'm Norm Hitzges. Welcome again to Three Wide at Scout.

We are here every Tuesday. Come join us live at Scout. That's the sports bar inside the iconic Statler Hotel in Downtown Dallas.

1914 Commerce Street by the way. I know you think you've seen sports bars before. You haven't ever seen one like Scott with shuffleboard and hockey and Bowling.

Bowling and foosball. And there's something down there where you can hunt, actually. Oh, big buck hunter.

Yeah. Oh, yeah. Thank you very much.

By the way, that's Grubes. Hi. Michael Gruber.

This is Victor Vialba. Hello. The Spanish voice of the Dallas Cowboys and many other things.

And we're at Scout. And you should be here on Tuesdays. This...

Yes. There's loads of TVs. Yes.

There's drinks being served. All that. Yes.

Buckets of beer, by the way. Okay. They just added those.

Alright. Buckets. Domestic, light, Texas, or Mexican beers.

And Okay. I didn't mean to stare at you as I said that, Jacob. Well, I'm Colombian, so that's okay.

You know? But but my family, my late wife, it's all from Monterrey, Mexico City. Yeah.

And when people... When I meet people from South America or Central America, the accents are very different. So people would say, You speak like you're from Mexico.

So... Yeah. So Okay.

It works. What does Grubes speak like he's from? You know, I get a little Another planet?

I got a little tinge of Colorado there, like Oh. Like, sorta like Rocky Mountains and Yes. Only.

Hanging out and what's up? It... It's been a few years since I've didn't...

Done any of that. Okay. There you the personality for it.

Totally. Chill, baby. Yeah.

It can be Tuesdays. It can be any day. Come by, Scout in Downtown Dallas.

You will love this sports bar. And, there are TVs everywhere. And, yes, there's a World Series game tonight.

Somebody's gotta be playing tonight. College football's every day. Delaware's playing tonight, Delkus.

Any basketball? We got some hockey. The Blue Hens.

We, the Blue Hens. Yes. We're here to talk sports for the next hour and a half.

Most of it is gonna be consumed with the Cowboys and some other NFL stuff. And maybe the last fifteen minutes, Victor and Grubes and I will get into college football. And maybe one of the more confusing seasons in recent memory for me.

But right now, let's go to the Cowboys. It was a win in Philadelphia Monday night. That's the bottom line.

It was a win. Okay. You can talk about they struggle against this beaten up Eagles team.

The Cowboys desperately needed to win, and Victor was on the plane from Philadelphia on the way home. Relaxed? Totally.

Totally. Everybody was calm and there wasn't a pall over over the the place as far as, you know, feeling like, oh my gosh. Because if the cowboys would have not beaten the Philadelphia eagles Yeah.

That would have been a long trip home based on the fact that the cowboys were even favored in that game. Now the optics of it are are one where you say, oh, it's a rivalry game. You could throw the records out the window, this and that and the other.

But at the end of the day, you had two teams that forget about looking for answers. They were wondering what the questions were. Exactly.

Because they were both like, well, we don't really know what's gonna happen. Well But but the one thing I will say, Norm, is this. Is that on paper, the the least bad team based on what had occurred in the first six weeks of the season won.

The one that made less mistakes won that game, and it was not a battle of attrition, but it was a battle of two teams that really at the end of the day the Cowboys pulled away and good, but who expected Javonte Williams to have a 155 yards? I mean that was that was the peacemaker, if you will, of what the Cowboys needed. That was a shot of adrenaline that they needed to have Gervonta Williams run that way.

Well, Grubes, this team's still only three and four. But in the NFC East, that gets you clearly second place. It's a great division.

It's a great division. My question to you is, there seems to be a thinking that I get from cowboy fans and reading newspapers and listening talk shows that, oh, don't worry about the Giants. Don't worry.

We'll reel them in for sure. Yeah. They got JJ McCarthy starting.

You know, what could they possibly do? Should we be so certain that a team coached by John Harbaugh is gonna collapse? No.

No. He's always got that possibility of making a comeback or just coming from nowhere really the way this season's gone. And you know, McCarthy looked solid Sunday.

Mhmm. He looked solid against a good defense. And he's gonna learn more and more of his teammates over the next couple of weeks too.

So the Cowboys are what amounts to a game and a half behind them right now. With the win over Philadelphia. But, guys, I wanna go a little deeper than a win with you.

I thought last night might be step one toward this team establishing an actual winnable offensive identity. You cannot win in the NFL throwing 50 passes a game, Victor. You're not gonna win.

No. You're not gonna beat good teams that way. No.

You're just not. And and last night, I can't remember after a cowboy game when there was such balance. 212 yards passing and 204 yards rushing.

27 passes. That's all. And it could have been less than that because the Cowboys were chewing it up on the ground last night.

And you know, Grubes, you can say the Eagles aren't much of a team, and they are so beaten up these days, but this is not a team that has been easy to run on this season. Absolutely. They...

They've been a good run defense team that the Cowboys chewed up. And that word balance is one we'll look for if the season goes on. But we saw balance last night, and we saw play calling that sought balance.

Mhmm. Because the Cowboys been been accused this season of deserting the run too early in games. Mhmm.

And last night, they began by running the football. That's who they wanted to be, and that's who they became last night. Now, will they be able to beat the 49ers that way?

The Rams, the Seahawks, Jacksonville, the giants that are all down the road. Who knows? But it was a step toward a winning type of identity.

Because in this league, Victor, if you're one dimensional, you won't beat good teams. Well, we wouldn't be here talking the way we're talking if they... If the the...

It would have been the alternative. If the Cowboys would have gone up there and done mistakes and lost the game and, you know, the Eagle fans were all like, we hate you Dallas. Go back home and this and then the other.

I mean, that, you know, in the realm of the Cowboys that we live in nowadays, it's very unpredictable to kinda decide this is what's gonna happen. I mean, when they're abandoning the run at any given moment, and, of course, I'm I'm here, like, when you go to the bull fights, I'm here on the side where I see the bulls down there and I'm way back up here. But the way I see it is, you know, the fact that you're abandoning the run and you're admittedly abandoning the run too early because you're behind in the score.

You know, it's like, well, wait a second. You know, we're not able to run the ball, so I have a... You know, I have my sedan that I drive, but then I have this Speedster that I can also drive.

So maybe I'll get in the Speedster. And there, what you're doing is you're saying, I got two of the best receivers in the league. I've got a tight end named Jake Ferguson that is sensational.

Although, I'm saying that in the ideal scenario because he has been anything but sensational. Right. And you have Brevin Spanford and, you know, and okay.

We we can't really run the ball, but let's throw the flat and let's try to throw deep. And they did that in several occasions. They got Cee Dee Lamb for two touchdowns.

They got that one pass to George Pickens in the corner that was, I mean, a thing of art. It was amazing, they Yeah. It was amazing.

But but the fact is is that there is a spirit within this Cowboys team to me that says, we can be a viper at any moment. We can bite you right now. We can throw a pass along.

Now they haven't been able to do it, but the fact that they were able to do it and stayed with the running game, because Dak said it. He said, hey, when he's getting those two, three, four yard runs, those turn into six, seven, eight later in the game once you're getting him going. So I mean, totally totally the the the balance that the Cowboys had was was enviable from the standpoint of where was that balance against Tampa?

You know, where was the balance, you know, against Green Bay? Well, guess what? It wasn't there because the defense wasn't doing their job.

Well, the offense the last couple of weeks has not looked like the cowboy offense at all. Not at all. You made a point about something, and and I think offensive coordinators have to scout themselves.

Some offensive coordinators, I believe in their heart, what a throw, throw, throw, throw, and they get bored calling runs. I honestly think that's true in this league. Is that Mouse Davis I hear around?

Well, but there is something to running the football and just dominating your opponent. That cowboy offensive line kicked butt and took names last night. And listen, Davis, the the kid Oy...

Moro Ojomo Ojomo. Carter. The eagles have some solid defensive linemen, and they got their butts kicked last night.

They did. That's... Eagles have a tremendous linebacker and ball.

They couldn't stop the Cowboys from running the ball ever. First quarter, second quarter, third quarter, fourth quarter. It may seem more boring to you watching a football game.

Pounding away. Just pounding away. But the greatest stretch of championships we've ever seen in this league was, with no offense to the patriots.

The packers were ridiculous in the sixties. They were just ridiculous. And they had good wide receivers.

But what did the packers do? They ran the football. Mhmm.

They ran the football. And remember those great dolphin teams, the ones that went undefeated? They had and kick and Morris.

They just... Now, Gruber was a fine quarterback. They had fine receivers, but their bread and butter was, I'm gonna defeat you at the line of scrimmage.

Mhmm. And there may be nothing more difficult if you're on the other side of that line of scrimmage than realizing they're running this ball straight down our throat, and we can't do anything about it. It...

It's a demoralizing thing if you're on the other side of the ball. It may not be the beautiful, wonderful, like you said, mouse Davis type teams or even in Detroit now where Dan Campbell's changing a little. He loves to run that football these days with Jimmy or Gibbs.

But the Cowboys, I don't think over the last year and a half, even though Williams had a good year last year, I've never gotten the feeling they love to run the football, Victor. No. That they ran it at times.

That was okay. But I've always thought that Schottenheimer in his heart... And let's...

Hey. They've they've got another offensive coordinator by name, but we know who runs the offense here. I think Schottenheimer's heart wants to throw the ball.

Well, I mean, he has two of the best receivers around right now. And, you know, it's kinda like you got a Learjet in your hangar, and you got a ticket to... With...

To get on a train to go to New York. I mean, what are you gonna use? You're get you're gonna get on the Learjet.

I mean, it's fancy. It's beautiful. You know?

You throw the ball, and you got these two spectacular wide receivers. You know? It's like, what...

I mean, if it was... If if the situation was the other way around, whereas the Cowboys had not abandoned the running game and maybe were squeaking out games and this and that, and maybe they won 24 to 21 and it was kinda one of these touch and go things where you're running the ball and you're establishing this and you wanna have the ability to move the chains at the end and the two minute warning and all that. Well, then somebody might kick the tires and say, hey, man.

We got these two great wide receivers. How come we're not throwing the ball? Exactly.

And yet if you'll take the ball, balance your attack, run a football, Commit to the run. Chew up clock. The real weak point of your team is not on the field then.

It's standing on the sidelines watching. You have a way to protect your defense, and that's to not let their offense on the field. True.

And I I just hope this is a sign of things to come. I I really do. I would look at it this way.

I would look at it that, hey, they won last night. Great. They showed me last night.

Great. You know, it's like, okay, finally, they win a game that's supposed to win. Show me.

They need to show me again. Right, do it again. And start from the very beginning.

Okay, are they gonna run the ball? Are they gonna establish the run? Are they going to insist on it?

Are they are they are they are they they? There's so many are they. And if it doesn't know them until Sunday at noon.

And if it doesn't work early, will you keep working on it? They better. Because this club does tend to abandon.

But I'm gonna I'm gonna propose this to you. Victor, you've done games forever. Can't remember a game that was cleaner offensively.

Do you know there was not a single false start last night? No. Not a single offensive hold that the only offensive penalty the Cowboys took in the whole game was they accepted a delay of game to punt the ball away.

Right. That was the only penalty that occurred with the offense on the field. No turnovers, no sacks, one delay of game penalty.

Great balance. That may be the cleanest offensive game we have seen from the cowboys in literally years. But the numbers say that to you.

212 yards, 27 passes by Dak. You know, the running game, a 155 yards, and and Goodson had 40 yards. 204 for the team.

Yeah. Exactly. So, I mean, you know, you look at those numbers, all all you're really hoping is that the defense comes out with some sort of attitude and smacks some people around.

You know, what what we didn't see that at the end of the night, I made notes to myself. I get annoyed with the Cowboys. Here's why I get annoyed.

You got this supposedly really good offensive line. You have got a good running back. You have three good receivers.

The kid Flournoy is developing into a trusted kid for Dak. And yet games get mucked up by a little swing passes to running backs behind the line of scrimmage. Or you don't have to do that.

Yeah. Those plays those plays are great for the defense because they don't have to defend much on those plays. Those plays are not aimed at gaining much yardage or nor are they aimed at at getting any dominance established.

Last night, I don't think Jevon Williams caught a pass. Jevon T. Williams caught a pass.

We never saw the... Oh, let's throw it out to Hunter Lupke. They did.

We never saw that one. They did throw one pass to him. To who?

Who? Lupke. Lupke.

Towards the end of the game. Oh, okay. Yeah.

Okay. Face time? By that time, I was dozing off.

Like the Philadelphia fans, I was leaving. Oh, they left in hordes, man. But It was Sayonara goodbye.

But a cowboy team based on run a football and get the passes, not necessarily 50 yards, but get the passes downfield. You've got a downfield receiving court here. Run it, throw it downfield.

I thought that was the best called cowboy game of shotty's term here for sure. Hey. For sure.

Winning cures everything. Who said that? Well Hey, Bill Parcells.

I wanna I wanna bring up a moment in the game, though, that I think I think it's gone from what I've read of all the accounts, it's gone unnoticed. It was late in the first half, and Dallas led 17 to 14. And Philadelphia punted the Cowboys down to their two yard line.

Right. And Dallas understandably was a little careful with the ball down there. Mhmm.

You don't turn the ball over. And they punted it back to the Eagles. And after a penalty, the Eagles had the ball down three points.

A minute and thirty nine seconds to go. That's an eternity. Still one time out left at their own 41 yard line.

Okay. Quick questions. What do you think is gonna happen at the end...

The the last minute and thirty nine seconds? Gruber, what do you think is gonna happen there? I don't know.

You got one time out? Yeah. Right?

You got one time out. Well, you're probably gonna throw something to the side and Or you But you just got plenty of time. You got a minute thirty.

Yeah. You got you got ninety nine seconds. Yeah.

I think the object there for Philadelphia is this. Let's get into field goal range. If we don't get into field goal range, let's make sure the Cowboys have no more opportunity to score this half because we get the kickoff to start the second half.

Mhmm. First and 10, Darius Cooper runs a cross, a deep cross. He is so wide open, you'd think he had a social disease.

And Tanner McKee bounces the pass into him without pressure. He just bounces it. I believe Troy said that was the worst pass he's ever seen.

Unbelievably, There wasn't a cowboy within four or five yards of Darius Cooper. He catches the ball, and I think goes for a total gain of about 20 yards. That alone puts you in long field goal range for Jake, but it's incomplete.

On second down, what do they call? They call the rookie, MacKay Lemon, on a a quick slant. He's open.

He's running this way. McKee throws the ball here. MacKay Lemon contorts his body, tries to turn and reach backwards.

The pass is so hideous, it's incomplete. That would have been eight to 10 yards. On third down, what are you thinking?

Now we gotta make a first down. Now we've gotta make a first down. So what do they do?

They throw a ball that was completed three yards downfield to MacKay 11. And he gets tackled, and the Cowboys use one of their timeouts. In that possession, the Eagles ran twenty five seconds off the clock.

Twenty five seconds. They forced the Cowboys to use only one time out. They gained five yards.

And when the Cowboys get the ball back, they have a minute and fourteen to go, multiple timeouts, and, of course, they go down the field to kick a field goal. I thought that was... If the Eagles...

First of all, if McKee doesn't throw two of the most hideous passes you can imagine. But if the Eagles can even kick a field goal there, get the kickoff to start the second half, which they did, and move down the field and scored. They would have been up seven instead of one.

I thought that game... The the capsule of that game was right there because the eagles, as they're presently constituted, they cannot screw up good opportunities. And they had one right there.

You you called the game. The passes were hideous. If he completes those, this game could have been a very different story.

Well, if Jalen Hertz was playing, it would be a different story. If my if my aunt had wheels, she'd be a bicycle. I mean, you know, it's like, you know, you you cannot really expect much more from Tanner McKee from the standpoint that he is not a first line NFL quarterback.

He has the attributes that he's a tall kid. He's got a good arm. He's smart.

Stanford kid. You know, all that good stuff. And, you know, I'm sure he's he's a great neighbor and everything.

You know? He lives his life right. However however, he is not a franchise quarterback.

He can't get out of the way of a sloth. He He is slow. When he...

There were a couple times he rolled out, and I thought, oh, lord. With my bad leg, I'm faster than him. He was so slow getting to the sideline, and and the cowboys knew it.

They knew it. They'd scouted him well. Despite that, the kid moves them three long drives for touchdowns, which is, I think, pretty concerning, Grubes.

It's not ideal. No. Had that been Jalen Hurts, Victor?

Does Philadelphia score in the thirties? It would have been a totally different situation. I mean, what what has been kryptonite for the cowboys in the first six weeks?

Mobile quarterbacks, guys that can move around, guys that have a good arm, guys that are that are not only mobile, but they can throw on the run. And, you know, Tanner McKee, it gets an f on every single one of those characteristics, period. I...

I'm gonna So if if... To answer your question, Norm, I mean, if, Jalen Hertz is in there, it's a completely different ballgame. I would say that the Eagles would even be favored, you know, as opposed to the Cowboys being favored.

You're right. They might have been. No.

They might have been. And you you... The Eagles are gonna look at that game film, and they're gonna see those open wide receivers at the end of the first half and a couple of other plays in that game and think, oh, jeez.

But that's what football is about, and that was a win. That... That's a win the Cowboys were desperate to have.

And by the way Yeah. Sunday against Arizona is another game they are gonna be desperate to win. And the week after against Indianapolis, desperate to win.

To get on that three game winning streak for sure. And Donald... But they've they've got ahead of them.

San Francisco, Seattle, the rams, Jacksonville, and a giant steam that's still pretty salty. And Philadelphia again. And then Philadelphia again.

We have no idea what shape they'll be in, but if Tanner McKee is still there, I'd anyway. That's a that's a Thanksgiving game. That could be a Cinderella story for Joe Milton.

Hey. Hey. We're writing a screenplay here, aren't we?

Here we go. Yeah. Listen.

Well, okay. In the in the screenplay, his his name isn't Joe Milton. His name is, you know, Billy Bob Jones or something.

You know? I'm sorry. I've seen Joe Milton, and you're not scaring me, Victor.

You're just not scaring me. But think about it. I mean Do they at least have more of a chance than McKee?

Well, he he has more of a chance of playing quarterback for the eagles than I do. Fair enough. Yeah.

So I There you go. So you're telling me there's a chance. I'm gonna go one in a million talk.

There you go. I'm gonna go in now. The Cowboys had ten days after getting, I think the correct word is embarrassed by Tampa Bay.

It was not good. Okay. During that time, and we'll get to this later, Shadi calls out George Pickens.

I'm I'm not sure there weren't five or six other vets who deserve to be called out more than George Pickens, but we'll get to that later. There's some subtle changes in personnel on this team, and not a lot was made of that in the game in the game analysis. First of all, picture you touched on earlier.

I think Jake Ferguson's losing the starting tight end job, Breven Spanford. Yeah. And they're not throwing the ball to Breven Spanford as much as they were throwing it to Jake Ferguson when Ferguson was in the acme of his of his moment because there was a moment when Jake Ferguson...

I mean, I'm just throwing it out there, but he was good for 60 catches a season, you know, 750 yards, six, seven touchdowns even. I mean, that has completely disappeared. I agree with you.

But now those passes are going to Lamb and Pickens and Flournoy. And Spann Spann is a power mower as a blocker. He is.

I mean, this is a two hundred and seventy pound tight end. Lord. And he he can catch the ball.

He made a really nice catch of a poor throw in the game. The one where he was like Yeah. Where he And then avoided the guy and then pushed three eagles three yards.

Okay. That's the tight end situation. Did anyone notice how little Luke Schoonmaker played last year?

Like two or three snaps, it seems like. Eight... Well, he wound up having 11.

Okay. But when you realize there's 68 offensive plays in the game, we were used to seeing him much more. I think the personnel at tight end is changing here.

Let's go to another position. Like a sea change. Yeah.

Like... Yes. Yeah.

I was also surprised to see Jonathan Mingle on the field for a lot more snaps last night. Special teams? Well...

But he played 23 offensive snaps. Yeah. Yeah.

That that maybe his total for the whole year for all I know. He's special teams. Yes.

Plays a lot of special teams. And by the way, interesting kick returner. But the one that got called back?

Oh, no. That was good. Goodson.

Yeah. It was goodson. But Mingo's presence on the field came because George Pickens was on the sidelines.

That's interesting. That's interesting with the way shotty called out Pickens during the week. And then Pickens did not play 27 plays last night.

Wow. And and those plays went to Jonathan Mingle. And I don't know if that was a shotty message.

I have no idea. Yeah. But it was interesting to me.

Mhmm. It was interesting to me that shot he made that decision. Let's go to the defense.

I had fun asking Victor this before. Okay. The veteran d winners who played a ton got hurt in the last game.

Okay. He's not there last time. But the overshown, the very athletic former University of Texas player who in his career just cannot stay healthy.

He was healthy. Going into the game, everybody seemed to think in what I wrote that Barham would be the the middle linebacker and to his side would be overshown. And the Cowboys would have these two really athletic linebackers because the Cowboys play up...

I I don't know. I do... Idea what they play.

They looked like they play a four three sometimes. Sometimes they look like they play a five two, and sometimes they look like they play a a four three four and other times a four two five. They change.

But those were the two linebackers. I was stunned. I'd mentioned this to you, Victor.

I was stunned that the linebacker who got the most plays in the game last night by a lot was Shamar James. Shamar James, who was a very, very late pick a couple of years ago. Oh, yeah.

He looked solid. He looked steady. And and overshown played the most next to it.

Barham, who's had a lot of buzz this year about it. The cowboys say tons of nice things about him. He only played 21 plays last night.

I found that really interesting. Really interesting. What's happening there, Victor?

Have they decided that Barham needs a lot more schooling at that position? Because he played tons of defensive end in college. Have the cowboys decided that the steady Shamar James and the athletic Demarvian Overshun are the best combination here?

It seems to me that Demariant Overshawn's reappearance has to do with the fact that Jason Barham didn't play as much as he did. And the reason I say that is you're not really sure what Demarvian is gonna give you after being out the number of times that he was... The number of games that he was.

So you're not really sure. Now you're pretty sure what Shamar James is going to give you, and you're willing to put him in because you're not really sure at this point that you... You wanna see Demarvian in there, but you don't necessarily feel that you have to have Shamar James on the bench and Jason Barham in here.

You rather see what Demarvian and Shamar James give you to then have Jason Barham when you need him to do other things. Now the... It begs the question, for example, where is Von Miller?

Where is... I say Raku? Where are these guys that were expected to be, you know, Malachi Lawrence?

Where are these guys within the scope of what's happening with the linebackers? Because obviously to me, if Demary and Overshawn hadn't played last night and wasn't available, they would have gone back to what they were doing. Where Shamar James is the linebacker on one side, and you have Jason Barham, I believe, as the guy with the with the green dot.

I agree. Now the quest... The question was posed, obviously, to to Brian Schottenheimer, and he said, no.

We were mixing it up. We were mixing it up where several guys... I don't think Justin Baron had it, but several guys from what I heard him say had the green dot on their helmet.

Well, he can say all the things about to me represented the move into this backup player for Jayshan Bar. Yeah. There's only one way to read last night's play chart.

That... And that's the only way I think. And I think that the Cowboys...

Oh, I'll go to one more play, and then I'll give you my... I think with the Cowboys. Okay?

There's one more player I'd like to take a look at. The Cowboys drafted Malachi Lawrence late in the first round because he is an animal athlete. He can run and jump.

He can do everything. He's got this incredible athleticism, but it didn't result in any production. It hasn't resulted in any production.

The thought was that this kid with his athleticism would start to impact games. Last night, he played basically half the plays on defense. You did the game.

Did you ever call his name? Not once. In 30 plays in the game, Malachi Lawrence had one assisted tackle.

No quarterback hits, no sacks, no tackles for loss, no solo tackles. He was in the pile once is is what that stat sheet tells you. It's kinda like me on this show.

Hey, Gruves. Hey. How you doing, buddy?

There's my assistant, Tap... Tappel. By the way, we're at the Scout, the fabulous sports bar at the Statler in Downtown Dallas, 1914 Commerce.

You ever thought about sports bars? This place is so different. It's unbelievable.

Does your favorite sports bar have a couple of bowling alley lanes in it? I don't think so. It may have shuffleboard.

Does it have big buck hunter? Is that right? Yes.

Okay. It's got all these other games. They're sprinkled all over this place.

It's and of course, it's a sports bar. So like, there's a TV set right above our heads, which we hope is very well affixed to the wall. I assume that it is.

We're here every It looks pretty solid to me. Yeah. I'm not worried.

We're here every Tuesday from 05:30 to seven. And then Ziggy and Beer thirty Sports O'clock. Yes.

I've worked on getting that name straight. Ziggy will be here right after us for Beer thirty Sports O'clock. Is is that ticking over there?

Yeah. He's dressed up. He's wearing a Halloween outfit.

Is he Jason? Oh, believe so. Yeah.

This is the week of Halloween. It is. Oh.

I'm sorry, but I turned off my lid. Please see this place. Please see this place.

You... Scout's a wonderful place. They've got great drink specials, great food.

Okay. Back to the game. Well, really quick, though.

Yes. If you use the code word football at the valet, you can get a free drink or you can get half off valet. Get out.

I'm telling you. That works for me. Code word football.

There you go. Code word football. I think last night's game was the cowboy coaching staff having ten days to look at hideous game film and saying, wait a minute.

Reverend Span's been better than Jake Ferguson. Shamar James has been more solid in his plays than Jason Barrow. Malachi Lawrence has gotta start producing or his play totals are gonna shrink some more.

And that's the way the game should be played. People sit in a locker room and say, I'm better than him. But you know what?

If most of the rest of the team agrees with you, they don't understand why those guys are playing and this guy isn't. And I thought that was an interesting night for the Cowboy coaching staff last night. Their selection of players.

Their selection of players. Well, there's certain thing of called pedigree of how you arrived where you are and how long people are gonna wait to to the point where they say Right. You know what?

I've seen enough. You are not gonna start in the NFL. Victor, I'll give you another one.

The free agent safety of kid Clark. Elijah Clark. Elijah Clark played a lot last night.

He was everywhere. Last year's third round draft points... Draft pick, Siobhan Raval, hardly played at all.

He's been disappeared. He... He's just disappeared, and Kalen Carson is in bye bye land.

Yeah. He's been And released. And I think this coaching staff last night sent some not too subtle messages.

Hey. If you'll work your butt off and you're better than the guy in front of you, you'll replace him. Look at what we did here.

And I was... That was my second point of real intrigue about last night's game. I thought that was solid player management, Victor.

Yep. I think that's what a head coach and his staff should do. They should him more.

Seems pretty Full meritocracy. Seems pretty basic to me, but sometimes coaches won't do that. It's...

They don't wanna disrupt something or if if Jake Ferguson doesn't play If Barham doesn't start playing better and James is playing better, Even the use of Mingo last night, I found really interesting. The two wide receivers who were Flanoi. And Lamb.

Yeah. Not Pickens and Lamb. Flournoy.

I don't know if that's that big a knock on George Pickens, but Shadi did spend the off week calling him out. He did mention I see a little more of this, a little more of that. I don't I don't feel in my but it is a reaction to so much speculation from the standpoint of, you know, guys, we're we're sitting here looking for the questions are.

You know? And there that there, you fall into a situation where the option entail. And by saying entail, what tail does it have behind it?...

Two years ago and we're still waiting to see if this pick works out for us or are we reaching a point where you know what? You are on the x-ray machine and if it doesn't work, I don't care if you were picked in the first round, number one of the entire NFL, you're gone, period. Okay.

That that comes into play when you're talking about the shelf life of players vis a vis are they being productive or not. When we talk about Jake Ferguson, I mean, really, it's mystifying to see that Jake Ferguson is injury report. He's not questionable.

He's He has disappeared. Now is it because of the role that they have for him at this point where he is having to do things that really... And going back to what what basically what you're saying is that where do you draw the line?

I think, like Bill Parcells used to say, you treat every player differently based on who they are, where they are, and what they are, what they mean to you. And if you've got Shamar James and Elijah Clark and they're out playing the people in front of them, well, then they move in front of them. That's life in the NFL.

But it depends who they're moving in front of and how long that entail... That tail that they're carrying, how long that's gonna make them last while... Till till somebody says, you know what?

We made a mistake with this guy. Well, they didn't look like they made a mistake last night with either James or Clark. No.

But what about Bourbon's man. But what about Ezeiraku? What about him?

What about Malachi Lawrence? Well What about Von Miller? They are getting they are getting no pressure from anybody.

That's what I'm saying. Ezraka who got got one sack last night. At at last.

Best guy last night on the defense was Quinnin Williams at last. Quinn and Williams. He was terrific.

And I would like to also put a star on the forehead of Demary and Overshaw. Mostly because of the energy he injected You bet. Into the game itself.

His interception was was the byproduct of him being just ready to go at any moment. You know, there was enough... The interception we're talking about is Philadelphia tried to throw about a eight, 10 yard down and out to a very fine tight end named Dallas Goddard.

That Philadelphia in the draft years ago suspiciously jumped one spot ahead of the Cowboys to take Dallas Goddard. Anyway They like the name. Philadelphia likes to step one stop ahead of the Cowboys.

Anyway, Tanner McKee has one other real problem. Coming into the game last night, over his career, he'd thrown to his first option 83% of the time. In other words, I get it.

I look. I throw it. If you're on the defense and you understand that and you're overshown covering Goddard and you see Tanner McKee torn...

Turned to your area, that's not a look off. That's Tanner McKee saying I'm gonna throw the ball over there. And that's good scouting.

That's and honestly, I thought the combination of the very underutilized Shamar James and the very wonderfully athletic overshown. That looks like the starting linebackers to me. Mhmm.

For the rest of the season. I... Well, let me just finish this thing.

It was great to see Quinn and Williams do what Quinn and Williams was supposed to do when the trade was made right about this time last year. But he was really good last night. Yeah.

Tell you what, why don't we take a break? We're gonna take a very short break to take, oh, maybe a little... A libation.

Maybe a chicken tender or two? Perhaps a chicken tender or two. Or a toddy.

Isn't that time already? It's possibly a toddy Really, Michael? Maybe.

Okay. Victor. And we'll be right back with you.

This is Three Wide at Scout at the iconic Statler Hotel in Downtown Dallas. Welcome back to Three Wide at Scout. It's the fabulous sports bar inside the iconic Statler Hotel in Downtown Dallas, 1914 Commerce.

The sports bar is remarkable. This whole hotel is remarkable. It's a giant combination of a hotel and residence apartments.

And between the residents and the hotel rooms, there's more than... 159 guest rooms on the first five floors, 219 apartments on the upper 11. Dang.

It's also got meeting facilities, rail... Retail and office space, four restaurants and a lounge, and a music venue. 11,500 square foot ballroom.

Well, and a 4,000 square foot sports bar. Mhmm. This is a gorgeous big place.

Come on down, and while you're here, say hello to Grubes as he's taking the elevator down from his apartment on the 41st Floor. Hey. For what it's worth, me and my wife did tour their apartments here a couple years ago.

Really? We didn't quite pull the trigger, but, dude, it is impressive up there. Nice.

And we also couldn't afford it. Well, which is which is rare. Yes.

That's Victor Vialba. Hello. He's the Spanish language voice of the Dallas Cowboys and lots of other things in this area.

Dallas Mavericks done Texas Rangers, PA announcing at AT And T Stadium, PA announcing for soccer games, The Dallas Burn, I was the very first PA announcer. Really? They liked me because I did the English and Spanish.

Oh. Oh, yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome.

I did that and then just, you know, put... Been in this market for quite some time. We're talking cowboy football.

And at the end of the segment, we're gonna spend some time on college football, which is... We're in the middle of a really interesting and unusual football season in college. We've talked to the Cowboys.

We've talked to the fact that defense may have been just a bit fortunate to face a very limited starting quarterback in Tanner McKee last night. I wanna go to the offense with you because I watched this game, and I'll be frank with you. I I didn't understand something.

And I didn't understand something for the entire length of the game. What was Green Bay's defensive weapon against the Cowboys? Blitz.

Come at them, baby. Throw the kitchen sink at them. Jonathan Gannon.

They... And Jonathan Gannon had... He must have dialed up 15 different blitzes during that game.

Oh, yeah. And and it worked. It worked.

The the constant pressure, I think, wore on Dak Prescott during that game. Well, Tampa's not stupid. They looked at that game film and said Blitz.

Let's blitz. And they threw everybody at Dak Prescott, and it wore on them. It worked.

The the Cowboys had two very limited offensive games those two weeks. I thought Vic Fangio, who is a defensive wizard coordinator, I thought lord knows where people are gonna be coming from. Now Victor, he's not a guy who loves the blitz in his coaching career.

But I sat there almost mouth open wondering, Vic, when are you gonna come after him? Were you stunned by that? Not really.

I mean, you know, Vic Fangio is is very well known in the circles, and the... His style is well known. What what surprised me more than anything, is when I looked at the numbers, you know, Philadelphia's defense wasn't really that good coming to the game.

They weren't really that good. They weren't good against the run. They weren't good against the total yards.

They they were just basically a team trying to survive games. So I I just felt that he he just doesn't have the personnel that he would like to have in in his system. And and and, really had was the detriment of the eagles because the balance that the cowboys had on defense and offense, the way they were able to move the ball, run the ball was the was the catharsis for, for Vic Vangel's defense.

You know, I'm I'm going to agree with you, Victor, that Philly has some limited defense this year. The the cornerback they thought who was gonna be really good, Rick Woollen, hasn't been very good for them. They're not a deep defensive team, and they haven't been terribly good through six games.

But that caused me to wonder even more. If you're not very good, you're an underdog in the game. You can't count on Tanner McKee to get into a 38, 35 game, your offense, your defense has gotta make something happen.

That was my thought. And it's like he sat back and said, go ahead. Punch me in the mouth again.

And it just it just stunned me that a guy who is that good, and he is good, suddenly didn't look at the Green Bay and Tampa films and say, you know, we got something to work with here. That he sat back and took it. That's what I couldn't figure out, Victor.

I agree with your assessment of their defense, but even more, I thought on this evening, in this situation, my defense can't simply sit back and say the Cowboys, hey, do anything you want to there because we have seen in the past. When Dak gets pressure, nothing gets Dak. Dak's a very good quarterback.

But when he feels pressure, he'll go into the flat to the runner or dump down a short pass the tight end. He'll do that a lot. But Philadelphia never forced him to do that last night.

He sat back clean as a whistle. Yeah. The whole game.

Was Dak Prescott knocked down last night? Maybe once. There was once on the sideline where he was a little slow, but Oh, yeah.

Like... Yeah. But that...

The guy hit him or something inadvertently with a knock. Like Green Bay when he was hit pretty hard Oh. And then he threw the interception.

Well, I I bring you this note only because I stumble on it. Don't think that Norm is this massive researcher, but you do read a bunch. Yeah.

You definitely don't do any research. No. No.

Not at all. Whatsoever. Vic Fangio has now coached 41 games with the eagles as their defensive coordinator.

Last night was the most points his defense has ever allowed in 41 games at Philly. Last night was the least number of quarterback pressures he has ever had in 41 games at Philly. And, of course, they had no sacks.

And I'm... I don't know. Maybe it's just me trying to be a defensive coordinator.

We all love to be coordinators of some kind. It's a dream. Yeah.

It's much more fun being an offensive coordinator. K. Figured out.

Anyway, that's why I couldn't figure out, Victor. When the Cowboys take the ball and go downfield and kick a field goal. The Cowboys take the ball and go downfield and score.

And the Cowboys take the ball and go downfield and score. That's why I couldn't figure out when Vic... McFinns, who at some point of that doesn't say, damn.

We gotta change what we're doing here. Yeah. But it goes back to the same thing.

I mean, the Cowboys, the... In the games that they have lost, there there has been a moment where the defense is not playing complementary football, period, and the offense suffers. And and the the eagles were under that that, thumb last night where their defense wasn't playing well, wasn't helping the offense, the offense wasn't helping the defense.

The whole the whole... This balance of, you know, the defense and the offense playing complementary football didn't exist for them. But let's just start from the very beginning.

If you look at the game... I mean, there's so much... You know, we live we live in Dallas Fort Worth, and everyone's following the cowboys, and everyone's, like, hanging on every single word that everybody says.

You know, like, when mister Jones speaks after the game, how disappointing the Tampa game was, how disappointing the Green Bay game was, and we better get better. We better figure this thing out. You know?

And you're hearing all all these different all these different interpretations of what's happening. You you really don't know until you hit the field. However, before the game started against Philadelphia, there was this feeling that if the Cowboys allow themselves to lose to Philadelphia, it's going to be a long season.

I agree. A season in which the head coach might not keep his job. Well, you know, mister Jones has said he wouldn't do that again.

I mean, I I don't... I'm I'm I'm not paraphrasing or anything. I just feel that that's the last thing they would want to do to fire a head coach mid season.

Oh, I'm not saying No. This No. But I'm going there.

I'm going to the nerve. I'm going and pricking at it, saying, okay, are you willing to fire your head coach because the Philadelphia Eagles beat you in Monday Night Football forty one to ten? Okay, if that would have happened, that would have happened, this would be a completely different scenario.

You bet. No pun. There would be blood running on the streets.

I agree. Yes. But that didn't happen.

And why didn't it happen? Because the Cowboys finally faced a team that allowed them, if you will, to be able to have a balanced attack and a balanced defense. And and we should be careful about assuming that's gonna happen every Sunday.

Of course. Didn't we say that earlier? You bet.

You showed me. Now you gotta show me again. Show me again.

Yes. And it... I'll just wrap this up by saying, I sat there astounded that Philadelphia just decided, listen, just keep beating on us.

We're not gonna try anything. I I was just amazed. They sat there in a four, two, five, and that's not gonna stop the run.

If you start with your linebackers five yards behind the line of scrimmage and you've got four defensive linemen, wait a minute. The ball snap, the cowboys have five guys blocking four guys that... It just astounded me that Philadelphia...

Some other teams, it wouldn't surprise me. Some other teams, you realize aren't terribly well coached. But this one, I mean, I I consider Vic Fangio almost a god in defensive coordinators.

He has that reputation, And it just stunned me last night that he just decided to sit there and take it. Do you think that was a decision essentially, or is that a personnel thing? Like, why would this guy, Vic Fangio, who's very, very good, just seemingly give up?

I don't know, Gruber. I don't know. But you'll see a lot of teams jump into six men line or seven men line at the line of scrimmage.

They're they're trying to get guys are coming back and forth and back and forth. And Philadelphia, so many places just sat there. And maybe it's a personnel thing.

But if it's a personnel thing, it's like Fangio telling his defense, you're not very good. We're gonna get our butts kicked. I...

If I'm on the other side of the line, I want my defensive coordinator to say, you know what? They may not think we're very good, but we're gonna prove them wrong. Well...

We're gonna throw the kitchen sink at it. No. I think it's the I think it's the former, what you just said, Norm.

The fact that big fan Joe said, alright. We'll just do the best we can and... Because at the very end of the game, like, when there was, like, seven minutes left and everybody was leaving, that place was, like, empty towards the end of the game.

So was the Philadelphia defensive coordinator's booth. Well well, okay. Yeah.

Yeah. But the but the point is is that there was complete give up by the Eagles at the end of the game. Well, that's what...

But again, Victor, I'm not disagreeing at all. That's what stunned me about Vic Fangio. Vic Fangio's not a give up defensive coordinator.

It comes and goes. Vic Fangio has had 85 game plans in his life, and they range from sitting back and doing nothing to, oh my god. How many people are coming after me?

And I... Well, it's behind. But let me just say this.

When these teams meet on Thanksgiving, that better not be your defensive plan, coach, because you're gonna get run out of this building. Believe me. Mhmm.

Because the Cowboys, next time, may not commit some penalties on defense that allow two of your touchdown drives to continue. Yeah. Next time, you may be down 38 to nine in the fourth quarter with that plan.

Alright. I'm off my high horse. Are the Giants better than people wanna believe in this area?

Gruber? No. They aren't?

I don't know. Oh, you don't know? I really don't.

Picture. I don't think so. I don't think the Giants are any better than the Cowboys are at this point right now from the expectation of what's gonna happen on Sunday.

The bottom line is the Cowboys... I I think the thought the Cowboys could win a wild card is a long shot right now. Oh, yes.

So they're gonna have to win the division. Definitely. And Philadelphia Philadelphia looks to me like the setting sun.

The trade deadline's two weeks away, and I wouldn't be surprised at all of how he rose from ship two, three, four players away from this team. Could be. To get draft picks.

I think how he realizes I'm going nowhere this year. What am I gonna do about next year? Particularly with their franchise quarterback being out the rest of the year.

And quite honestly, do we know he's gonna be able to continue his career? Probably not. Yeah.

We don't know that. I agree. You don't know that.

And that could put Philadelphia in the first round quarterback market Wow. In this draft. And and Roseman, I I have to tell you, I know he's the Eagles general manager.

I really admire the guy. Because the guy will sit there and he is... Grubes has heard me say this a dozen times.

The general manager of a football team has to be the nastiest SOB realist in the entire franchise. He can't come into meetings where people thinking, oh, jeez, we're better now. We got that game.

Has to come in there thinking, oh, god. Thank god we didn't play somebody good last time. Any...

But Roseman is aggressive, Victor. He is aggressive. He's super aggressive.

And in free agency, he is not at all afraid to say, hey, we love you, man. We just can't afford you. And away goes that player, and he gets a complimentary pick in the draft.

It would not surprise me at all if Roseman tried to add three or four draft picks over the next two years in trading players. And by the way, there was a trade made today. Really?

Wow. A significant one. Wow.

Woah. I mean significant, and it affects the NFC. I don't know where in the top five guards in the NFL, Quentin Nelson is right now from Indianapolis.

Okay. But he's a dude, man. He's a dude.

He's got a string of first team all pros in his record, and Indianapolis decided they'd start the rebuilding project today. And they sent him to Seattle. Alright.

Oh, man. For a third round pick next year and a fifth round pick the year after. And the word is that Indianapolis may continue by treating Jonathan Taylor?

Yes. The quarterback? The runner.

I mean, the running back. The other. One of the three best runners in the league.

So is the owner or the lady that's walking around the bench making these decisions? She's she's not happy. She's she's not happy.

She said it was a make or break year. And right. And the defensive linemen, Indianapolis, they're probably gonna trade to Forrest Buckner.

And they're gonna try to do... But I think if you you look at your team and you're honest about it, you do stuff like this. You say, hey.

Quentin Nelson's contract is up after this year, and somebody will give me a three and a five? I'm grabbing that. Let's go.

Let's go. Let's start the rebuild. And my lord, what could they get for Jonathan Taylor?

Holy cow. But the trade deadline's coming up, and we do know how Jerry likes to talk about... I'm telling you, if they beat Arizona this week to get to four and four, and they beat Indianapolis on November 8 to get to five and four, And the trade deadline is two days away.

I'm telling you, he better have some kind of wonderful telephone plan in place at the at the Star to save money because Jerry will be burning up those phone lines about what he can add to this team. And you know what? Okay.

You won the NFC East. Big deal. Wait a minute.

You got in the tournament. That's the deal. Tell me we got a chance.

You got in the tournament at the end of the year. 18. 18 teams don't get in the tournament.

With an eight and nine record. With eight... But you know what?

Do you remember when the Giants were the number... Where where the Cowboys were the number one seed? And the Giants were the first...

As I recall, first number six seed to beat a number one seed in in playoff history. Mhmm. The object is just to get in.

And I don't I don't say this to get everybody up on their bench and say, oh, Norm's a cowboy lover. If you get in the tournament and your offense is healthy and your defense has made strides. Dallas is dangerous.

They're dangerous. Are they as good as Seattle, San Francisco? For all we know by then the Rams?

Minnesota. Minnesota. What Minnesota's defenses?

That's a tooth spitting group of human being right there. But you're right. But as you said, you've got a chance.

Yeah. You get in the tournament and you... That Giants team won the Super Bowl.

From nowhere, they won the Super Bowl. Is it gonna happen again? Someday.

Look at the baseball world series. How many people had Milwaukee versus Tampa in the world series this year? Nobody.

Nobody. Nobody on the face of God's green earth. In fact, even when the playoffs started, nobody had Milwaukee versus in World Series.

But that's why they play the games. Let's go to college football. Who's the best team in college football right now?

Oh. There's a holler of Miami from the crowd. They're certainly number one and they certainly have a brilliant quarterback that transfer kid Mensa.

He's a good player. But are they the best team in college football? Are they better than Georgia?

Wait a minute. Georgia lost to Auburn. They like this.

Are they better than Ohio State? I don't know. Notre Dame lost to BYU.

Might Notre Dame beat Miami? Is that coming up? No.

But they've... Notre Dame's got a fine quarterback of their own, the kid car. And Notre Dame's a solid football team.

But guys, I wanna point to the rankings. We are... Halloween ends October.

We are very much in the stretch run-in college football. Teams are about to play their eighth game of the season. And the top 10 in college football this week includes Utah, UCLA, BYU, and Kentucky.

Just like we all expected. Yeah. Exactly.

Victor had it written down on a napkin before the season. Totally. I find this football season fascinating, just fascinating.

Because who's left amongst the unbeatens? Miami, Utah, and UCLA. Wow.

How things have changed? How things have changed. Hardly anybody's talking about him, but I want to spend a minute by just mentioning to you guys a fellow named Jesse, Bob Jesse.

He now coaches UCLA. It's his first year there. He took a program that was blatantly mediocre.

I mean, blatantly mediocre. Bottom of the big 10 along with several other of the usual bottom of the big 10 types. He came from James Madison.

In James Madison's second year, this is James Madison. He had them in the national championship playoffs last year. In his first year?

His second year there. Oh, wow. He came from Holy Cross and Holy Cross can't recruit guys who can walk without a cane.

It it. He went forty four and twenty one there. Then he went to James Madison and went twenty one and six there.

Wow. And went to the national championships in year two. And now he's got UCLA seven and o and number seven in the country.

This dude can coach. This right now to me is the coach of the year in college football. But is it possible someone outside these top 10 wins the championship?

Oh, I think yes. Well, with the field, the way they're expanding it, I mean Well, that won't be the next year, though. No.

I know. I I realize that, but but yet the impetus of the expansion and everything sort of expands your mind as to the possibilities. There are more solid football teams in college football right now than usually.

Yeah. Because Nebraska's dangerous again, kids. They're dangerous.

Penn State stinks. I'm sorry, but they stink. What happened to Penn State?

Wait a minute. Nebraska? Illinois kicks Oregon's butt last weekend?

Wow. What's happened to Oregon? Oregon's falling out of place.

I'll give you a name. I don't know if you've seen them play. They didn't look like it three or four weeks ago, but I've seen the last two games LSU played.

I don't want any part of them in the playoffs. They have this transfer quarterback named Sam Levitt, came from Arizona State. Sounds right.

I get the Arizonas mixed up. Anyway, he came to LSU from there. This guy is starting to figure it out, guys.

His last two weeks, seven touchdown passes, no interceptions. He can run. LSU is dangerous, and they're not in the top 10.

Wow. And they're dangerous. And look who else is into the top 10 here.

Good programs. Hey. What if Texas refines their magic?

They're not in the top 10. I hope not. Wait a minute.

Ole Miss was number seven last week until they lose at Texas. Ole Miss is a good football team. A a solid football team.

Yeah. Come on, doctor. And you can go on and on.

Texas Tech dropped out of the top 10 because they got upset. Cincinnati kicked our butt. And Cincinnati gets a chance right back this week.

That's my alma mater, baby. Alright. Cincinnati or Texas is Tech.

Get your guns up. Pow. Last week victory.

No. It was Get your guns down. Yeah.

It was not good. It was not good. It was not good, but let's get it out of our system because I'm not saying we're going to win the championship, but we're going to scare some people.

Well, that that really helps make the point I was trying to make to you guys. Where's Texas Tech now? What are they?

The fifteenth best team in the say 15. I don't know. 18?

Wait a minute. If they're they're not quite as low as 18, but there's people down there who can now play in college football. Nobody ever used to look at number 16 or 18 and say, woah.

Look out for them. Careful. Never used to happen.

Those teams got invited to the car crash bowl at the end of the season. Car crash bowl. The tidy bowl.

Yeah. The the duke's mayo bowl. That's the best one.

And the Is that the one where they dumped the mayo? Disgusting. I mean, come on.

Awful. Hey. It's terrible.

But it's good to would you do that? That's just, like, wrong. Well, what?

There's also the Pop Tart bowl where they burn a Pop Tart alive? And Pop Tart. Really, but And then there's the Idaho famous potato bowl.

There you go. There you go. Thank heavens.

The pool and weed eater bowl no longer exists in Shreveport. But I think this is a fascinating college season because every week, you look at the top 10 and think, lost, lost, lost. Where's Oregon?

You know, every week there are things like this. Oregon is gone. Oregon has no chance to play in the playoffs.

Last year, Oregon was considered maybe the most dangerous team in college football. They're out of the picture now. And Kentucky is in the picture along with BYU and UCLA and Utah.
