Drop cracks me up every time. I know. But it's been a hot minute since we have had you on. So how you been, man? Been doing fine. Been doing fine. Just wasting away. Wasting away. I must say you are looking great. I really appreciate that. This is good time to say this, you know, losing weight in the public eye is is funny because the mix of comments are fascinating. Some of them are really nice and some of them mean well. But I'll give you an example. A lot of people are like I'd say most are just like, well, you look great. Congratulations. Thank you. Appreciate it. Then there's there's a few that are like, you used to be so fat. You look great. Thank you. And some are like, man, you were just so fluffy. I'm so glad you lost the weight. I'm like Yeah. Don't have to adjust the aspect ratio on my screen anymore. A lot of left handed compliments. There's some weird ones and they're like, thank thing. And then there's the ones that are like I don't wanna hang out with the people that you're around. Well, is You need better friends. Comments on, oh, no. These aren't my no. No. These are just like Yeah. It's just like social media stuff. Don't wanna hang out I wouldn't wanna hang out with them either. So but I really appreciate it. It's Yeah. We love you, man. I love you. What do your friends say about it? Yeah. People that you are near and dear to you. The ones that are near and dear to me, man, you used to be so fat. I'm so glad you lost that weight. But they're all very supportive. I said, I'm not at the finish line yet, but I can see it. That's what I that's what I was saying earlier. Can see it. Yeah. Because your goal is ninety four pounds. My goal is to weigh ninety four pounds. So I'm almost You were on your way. I'm getting close. Your goal is to be a fifth grader. That's really the goal. Do you love me yet? Did you did you set a goal for this when you set out on it? Yeah, I started two years ago. It's been a long journey. So, you know, I'll save everybody all the details. The weight gain was not a luxurious, oh, I just decided to stop trying and just gain weight. That wasn't really how it worked out. It was some medically involved stuff. And then I got over that. And then two years ago, almost to the date, actually, I was like, I'm ready. And I started. The the thing is though, I I've I've likened it to being on top of Mount Everest, looking down and going, how did I get here? And how do I get down? Yeah. And it's one step at a time. Hell, yeah. And that's what we started doing. I started I broke up my long term goal into fourths, so every 25 felt like a huge victory and It is. Damn right. It is. So we're getting closer and closer. But, I've been trying for two years. Can we ask how much you're down now? Yes, you can ask. How much are you down now? Oh, okay. Thought you're were just asking permission. But yeah. I wanna make sure that it's okay. I'm not ashamed. I'm down a 130 pounds. Hell, yeah. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. That that is awesome. Yeah. That is just awesome. Damn. That's a lot of hard work. People ask yeah. People ask, you know, how did you do it? Did you do this, that, the other? And honestly, it's I've just done the one meal a day approach, the 1,500 to 1,800 calories a day, which is probably I should probably be eating a little bit more for weight loss, but I wanted to accelerate it just so I could feel some sort of victory. And it's kinda it's really the extent of it. High protein and count every single calorie. That's bottles of water? See, remember that water? Someone put up this is an average Yeah. Normal American sized water. His hands didn't get bigger. That's what it is. That's just a normal sized water bottle. Pretty sure. That's what's that supposed to mean over there? Hell. I don't know if I like that tone. I don't either. It's nice to see You're generally not gonna like her tone. You treat him like that. Yeah. Yes. Exactly. But I appreciate it. Well, you excited for the end of meteorological summer? It's been yes, I am actually. It's been I'm I'm a guy that likes the heat, but this back half of summer has been pretty rough. It's been pretty It feels like it's a little different than the past few summers too. Are. We are. What was it? Literally no rain so far? And I guess this entire month of August? I've got some stats that I wrote. I'm so Numbers. Numbers. Numbers. I spent some time digging through stats. Are you ready to be bored? Hell yeah. Never. Oh. So I'm a baseball guy. So yes, I am. I will have stats. I might have said this before, but I've I have said this to Mike Leslie. Sports guys are just as nerdy as weather guys. Yeah. Y'all love stats. Oh, no doubt. Yeah. So that's like, you know, you you would think it's like the nerds and jocks. Nope. Nope. Nerds and nerds. Different paths, but same nerd dom. Same nerd dom for sure. We're all a little broken. You wind up at the end of Nerd Road. That's right. Let's so you you said it's been not this is the ninth time on record that DFW has not had measurable rain in August. Which is impressive. It's the tenth longest dry streak. We've we're now forty seven days of this recording without measurable rain at DFW. Gross. It is gross. That's awful. We've had thirty seven days of triple digits. That's the thirteenth most in a year. It's the sixth hottest summer on record. The third hottest August on record. The twelfth hottest summer just based on highs, and interestingly, the second warmest summer based on our overnight lows. You all asleep? Do we where do we stand up to the summer of nineteen eighty? But you know, in some sense so the overnight lows have been much warmer than they were in 1980, and we certainly did not have as extreme heat for as long. But, you know, we're we're getting, I would say, into the territory. I you know, I know 1980 was obviously brutal. 2011, 1980, even 2023. Mhmm. Those are like benchmarks. This one was certainly in the running for being a memorably hot summer, but not quite that bad. Not quite 1980. I remember 1980 because I was living in an upstairs duplex that had no AC. Oh my gosh. And in addition to that, I did not own at that time a pair of shorts. That is just insane. I didn't own a pair of shorts and I was long sleeve. I also wore a lot of long sleeve shirts. Now I would bow down to the weather by rolling up the sleeves a little bit And not wearing underwear. Me look like more of a tough guy, you know. Right. But quit trying to get everyone on that train. We're not gonna do it. Alright? He knows it's true. He went commando for most of that summer, I bet. I might have. See? I'm you know I'm right. Yeah. I went through a commando phase for a while. I was I could never do that. It's it's stupid. To this day, I I don't know why I did it. And honestly, I've never admitted that to anybody before until now, but I did. I'm honored. And I don't know why and I was that just shows what an idiot I was. But, yes, the summer of nineteen eighty is do that soon. Is quite memorable. No. It is. How many pairs of jeans did you have? And how often did they get washed? Probably every week. That's not bad. But I had like, I don't know, three, four, something like that. Okay. So you had a decent rotation. Yeah. I had a decent rotation. Alright. I'm just trying to get a feel for this and mister Commando. Commando in jeans? That sounds not good. Me and jeans. Yeah. Right? He had some sort of a weird chair. Like, was it made out of a just metal spool or I swear that's in my mind. Maybe I'm wrong on that. Or cinder block or something. Was it one of those big wooden spools that Oh, maybe. Yeah. But I mean, you use those for coffee tables. Coffee? Coffee. Yeah. Did you ever have a that when you were in your college dorm or anything? You know, I can't say that I did. I'm trying to think of the No. I don't think I was going commando. Was extremely weird. Hey. He's used to it. Oh, I'm very used to it. He signed up for this. So one thing I've been amused by is watching you and watching Pete have to tell basically the same story every day and figure out a different way to dress it up a little bit. Certainly hard, to be honest. Yeah. I'm sure it I'm sure it is. Especially when it's, you know, it's four minutes and I gotta talk about that for four minutes and Yeah. I'm sure these are not easy times for you guys. No. I will tell you though, I love it. Some people people like on social media are like, oh, you probably love when there's storms and when it no. Give me the drought. Just less stress. Less stress. But yeah, it it is hard. But that's where the stats come in. You tell that story, and that is kind of becoming the story is you've got the fire danger, we've had no rain, we've been so incredibly hot. And that's, you know, that's not necessarily sexy stuff, but It's what's happening. That's what's going on. You're just reporting the why news. The weather. You're there. Or just the messenger. Like until you have new news, do not speak a word and just telling us to like start praying about all of this and it's very funny. I think she actually used to be in radio around here. Oh. Broadway, whether it's indie rock, whatever their their vibe is, there are some seriously talented people that deserve some fame and I hope they get it. That's kind of been my thing lately is just going through Instagram and finding these random artists that people are just putting themselves out there and Used to do like a Jesse's jukebox type of thing. Well, we got Jesse so Yeah, that's right. There's a there's a band called All Get Out. Have you heard of them? They are sharp. All Get Out? All Get Out. I saw them I like the name. Yeah. They're great. I saw them in Middle of the Map Festival, which is in Kansas City. Middle of the Map. It was back in I want to say 2015. They opened up for, my favorite band, Manchester Orchestra. I remember watching them and thinking, these guys are awesome. And I hope they they played at three links a couple years ago. I think they're actually coming back by to AMFM. Have you heard of that venue? Yeah. Yeah. Just opened. Right? Yeah. It's by Rodeo Goat in the Design District. Yeah. They're playing there, I think, in November. November 4, I'm seeing? I'd like to go to that concert. Good crew. Alright. Yeah. I'm kinda feeling this. Can dig it. They they used to be Texas based. I think they moved. Not sure where they are now. Yeah. They have a song called ATX. They I think they might have used to live in Austin. I'm not a 100% sure on that. There it is. When are we all gonna go to a concert together, I think is the question. Not soon enough, I'd say. That is a question. I think that'd be a blast. Hell yeah. Feel bad that we missed out on the last one. It was on our calendar at some point and then I think we all were like lazy. Yeah. Which one was oh, yeah. That's funny because we were looking at the tickets and everything. Yeah. Which concert was it? I think it was the Electric Cowboy? Yeah. Man, that was they sold out quickly here in Dallas. It was a packed house and it was it was one of those shoulder to shoulder sweaty on sweaty type of deals, but not sure that anyone's into it. Southside Ballroom, like, I like the venue, but as a short king, it's tough to see anything because it's all standing room only, basically. So I generally don't go to many concerts there because I just wind up looking at someone's butt. No room for the short king. Apparently not. No. Not at Southside. God. I guess the last concert I went to is the Speaker Wars. Right? Damn one good one to go to. Yeah. The Kessler. That young lady at closing bell or opening bell just two weeks ago. Who's that? Made out. Jay Joyce. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But I really want a concert per se, though, was it? Mean, the speaker wars was. To listen to public music. Yeah. Was she doing, like, spoken word? Or No. No. She was singing. Okay. Just maybe a little more intimate type of show? Really cool, very bluesy vibe rendition of the Springsteen song that you were, like, blown away by. It was crap. Oh, yeah. I I I remember seeing that now, and I can't think of what it was. I can't remember. She she was very good. She was really good. Yeah. Yeah. Otherwise, you have to always yeah. Wars. They were really good too. Yeah. Speaker Wars was with Stan Lynch, Tom Petty's original drummer. Yes. With the Heartbreakers. Yeah. It's his new thing now and he's got a couple of guys from here in our Fairburg doing it with him. Yeah. I think literally the whole band is DFW based. No way. Yeah. Way. Yeah. They actually produced it and put the album in Denton at a place. Yeah. Really nice studio out there, by the way. Really? We did the show from there with Stan and yeah, like they had just gotten done with a big rehearsal, getting ready for the show that they were gonna do at the Kessler and yeah, that was pretty magical. That's awesome. I highly recommend a rehearsal space if you can put one in your house. Man, I I've been wanting to start a band again. I've been wanting to do it for a while and Well, you got a drummer and a half ass guitar player over here. So I would be the I I would have We to be have two drummers. Do anything else but oh, then we're screwed. Yeah. I'm the drummer too. That'd be fun. That's what I'm saying. We can start a drum line There you go. For something. People watch eye and horn players. When I worked in Kansas City, our station was the home of the Chiefs. And fell in love with that organization while we were there. My wife and I, she was a reporter. She was always there at Arrowhead doing stuff in the morning show. And so we became, you know, intimately familiar with the Kansas City Chiefs. And that that's really kind of become our team. My wife's from Chicago, so she's still kind of a Bears fan. No. But your Chiefs all the way? I would say, yeah. I would say if I'm rooting for a team, it's the Chiefs. Well, I will tell you. If there is one team in the NFL that I really have a little bit of a spot far in here, it would be the chiefs because they were formerly the Dallas Texans. Oh, And I was a card carrying member of the Dallas Texans Huddle Club. Nice. By which, if you got your old man to take you out there, you could bring, I don't know, two friends and and they could all get in free with one paid adult or something like that. Woah. But, yeah, they started here and played here through 1962. And the greatest sports day of my young life up until then came in the nineteen sixty two AFL championship game when Tommy Brooker kicked a field goal in overtime to beat the Houston Oilers. And then about a month later, we found that the team was moving to Kansas City. Oops. It's a tough one, pal. Oh, painful. Yeah. Crushed. It still affects him to this day. It does. I mean, I think about it, and they're somewhere in that dusty old soul of mine, there's a little twinge of sadness over it Shoopy. Sorry. Do you do you need a Whopper junior? I think I do. That was one of the biggest single sports bummers that I've ever seen because those are good fans down there. And it was one of those things because of the stadium. Owner wanted a new stadium. They wouldn't give him one. So he took his toys and went to a much smaller market. Was that Tennessee? That's Tennessee. Look at me. That's really good, Jesse. I grew up in Houston. I kinda remember Oh, fair enough. They became eventually became the titans. Is that right? They did. And they still are too. They're crushing it. Yeah. And football has is a brown ball. Yeah. Like made out of pigs. Guys. Yeah. Kinda odd shaped. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. It's hard to throw and hard to catch Uh-huh. Compared to baseballs Mhmm. Basketballs. I I say this because I would be the most the most casual sports fan. Like I always admit, I'm never gonna pretend to be something I'm not. But I have come to this realization not terribly long ago, how incredibly important sports is. Are? I don't know. You're the Is talker. Sports is are. I start, you know, I don't know how I just ignored it. Maybe I was just being arrogant or something. So I don't like sports, whatever. It's not I don't not that I hated it or anything, but I see the unity it brings to communities, the excitement it builds in thousands and thousands of people and how deeply like you're saying, with teams, how deeply attached to some of these teams people get. I didn't realize it until that until super recently. So I love it. What made you realize it? I'm not really sure. I remember being in the studio one night and I think it was watching this couldn't have been it had to have been before this, but most recently reminded when the Knicks won. And I know people were super emotional about it and you see the amount of people it brought together. And I don't I don't know if there's really anything in this world right now that brings people together quite like sports. Politics? Yeah, that's really doing it. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, that's the big uniter. Right. Why it took me that way? Politics. Yeah, I don't know why it took me so long to see Yeah. Like, you know, weather's always kind of been your lane. And like you said, you kind of have your weather nerds and your sports nerds and they generally don't intertwine too much except for like Mark Falwell, but yeah. Mark's a huge have you met him at all? Is he ever. No. Mark. Dude, I've not met you yet. Why? I know you We need to work on that. Yeah. We gotta work on that. We we go back a ways with Mark. Him, especially. And That was his first sports anchor for the ticket. That's right. And when he was up there, I used to love it when we would have big weather. Oh, yeah. Because we would just throw it to Mark. Let him take over. And he was great at it. Doesn't he now have some sort of a meteorology, at least minor or something like that? I might have to check-in with him, but I swear, like, part of his reason for going back to college was, like, meteorology related. Really? He's dad in the weather. That's so cool. You know, now, now my daughter's in kindergarten, I was saying before before we started the podcast, how much more emotional that was than I thought it was going to be. Oh, yeah. I didn't expect it because she went to pre k. So I was like, yeah, it's the same. You know what the tough one for me was? What's that? First day of the first grade. Really? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Did it just feel real? That was a lot tougher than than, you know, kindergarten because it was just like, okay. We've crossed some sort of threshold here Mhmm. To where now she's going into this different situation. Mhmm. And we're not going to see her for a few hours. Yeah. You know? It's not gonna be go to kindergarten for an hour, an hour and a half, or whatever, then you come get them and go from there. Yeah. We're going to be without her. She's going to be under the control of somebody else. So Jordan had half day kindergarten, the shortened kindergarten? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. He did things. His daughter did. The boys didn't. The boys had full day kindergarten. Yeah, it shows. It does show. Got off to a slow start and it just stayed. Stayed in second gear. Half day first grade. Yeah. Three second. Just let yeah. Work release. But, yeah, first day of the first grade was a tough one for me. Yeah. You know? And now we've had all kinds of other stuff since. You know? Now she's got two kids, and she's Wow. You know? Yes. He gets On her way. Breakfast now. Yeah. Yeah. I I get to do pops things with her and everything. Oh, that's wonderful. With them. And that's all great and everything, but, you know, the that that first big marker, whatever it might be, man, for me, it was first day of the first grade for somebody else. Might be something different, but that big marker, you will know it when you hit it. And when you hit it it will affect you. You're so right. It will affect you. I it's like burned into my memory, man. Like, I looked at sat her down in the chair, we walked out of the classroom. The first day you can bring her bring her in and through the glass, was looking at us with tears in her eyes. Aw. And I was like, I'm not an I am not an emotional human being. I'm just not. Holy you know what? Oh, yeah. No way. You could cuss for me. Right? Shit. Holy shit. It it was I did I did not care for that. Oh. It hurt. Went and blasted some heavy metal in your car to get back. I'm not real emotional either, but that was a tough one for me the first day of the first grade. But you know what else has been tough? What's that? Seeing her with her own kids now. Really? Yeah.
