rare. These are done win and only win. There is some sort of situation involving tragedy,
strife, chaos, angst, any or all of those things. But whenever there's something involving
those things to talk about, that's when we strike up an emergency session of the OG.
Now joining me for this emergency session is actually the man who called it. That is Grego.
Hi, Grego. Hey, Ryan. I don't know what to make of this as we dive right in. I really don't
because... Well, let's tell him what we're diving into first. Oh, yeah, I forgot. I don't know how
to lead shows. You know, you realize that, right? I don't know how to do that. Well, we can get into
it very quickly. There's a little bit of chaos on a cowboy's training camp today. Well, I am not
convinced entirely that this is real legitimate chaos as opposed to staged, manufactured chaos.
But nevertheless, we're taking it at face value. And there's been a thing going on
and revolving around the Micah Parsons contract. Every year at Cowboys training camp,
there's always a contract situation looming out there somewhere or in most years there is.
And the bigger the player is, the more significant the contract situation is. Well,
Micah Parsons is about as big as it gets. And today, he has bolted training camp.
He has left. He has said, Veracuneum. And I'm not coming back. Do you believe that, Grego?
I believe you left. But, you know, I'm with you. I've seen this story too many times and I know
how it ends. I mean, everybody, they name call. They threaten. They holler. They scream. And then they
come together in a press conference and think that if anybody asks any questions, they're stupid.
You know, everything's cool. And so, but this just has the sounds and the tone of something else.
Because I don't think Jerry Jones is the same guy he was five years ago.
You know, I don't know what, what it is, but he's just handling things in a different way.
In a much more personal way.
That's interesting. How do you think he's changed over the last five years?
I just don't, I used to think he was all about winning. And no matter what,
no matter what he did with pinching pennies or or cutting payroll or whatever. And the bottom
line, he was going to do whatever it took for the Cowboys to win a Super Bowl. I don't feel like
that anymore. Don't feel like that. What do you think he's about now, then? Building that brand,
Cowboys are worth $20 billion. Now, I don't know what's the difference between 20 billion and 10,
but that seems to matter to him right now. Well, and I just think is in his older age,
he's looking back at his legacy. And, you know, he's not going to let these players push him around.
And in the end, they get to push him around. And they need this guy to win. And I just came
very much so. You know, and if Jerry, you know, if he wants to play around with him, okay,
but not like this, because, you know, in the old days, you could play around like this with
your agents on the telephone. Now it's done in public. And everybody knows about it. And Jerry
looks bad. Jerry looks bad on this deal because he's been too late and paid too much too many times.
I'm trying to get up the statement, the Micah Parsons statement here. Yeah, I mean,
there are things in there that I want to want to go over. Yeah, he was talking about,
you know, the handshake deal back in in March where they said, hey, we're going to,
you know, we're going to deal with each other. Well, you know, the CBA, you can't deal directly
with a player. That's a violation of the CBA. You got to do the agent. Well, Jerry's not calling
the agent. That's according to Micah. Yeah. Well, and you know, if that's the case, then
then yeah, that probably is a violation of the CBA. And that means that things are not going to
get done here. But, you know, when you talk to the agent, you're talking to the player.
I mean, that's just how it works. It's worked that way since the agent was invented. Yeah,
I don't know what Jerry's trying to get around where he wants to talk to Micah. But yet, I do know,
he wants to confuse him with a bunch of numbers, a bunch of future contract numbers and
different things financially that Micah might not understand that an agent or a lawyer would.
All right, let's go through the statement here. Okay. And when you've got something that
Warren's commentary just feel free to jump in there. All right, this is the statement that Micah
Parsons put up on X, I believe. Is that where it was X on Twitter? Okay, yeah, it was on Twitter.
All right, it read this way or it reads this way. Yes, I wanted to be here. I did everything I
could to show that I wanted to be a cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in
front of the best fans in sports and make this America's team once again. The team my pops and I
grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here.
I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present.
I no longer want shots taken in me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the
organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the
media about me. I had purposely stayed quiet, quiet in hopes of getting something done. But since
there's confusion out there, then let me clear some things up. I had my agent reach out to the
cowboys last off season after my third year in hopes of getting a deal done early. Unfortunately,
the team did not want to start any negotiations at that point. I was okay with that, didn't complain
and focused on the 2024 season. After the season, I told my agent once again to let the team know
we were open to negotiate when they met at the combine. My agent informed me I should wait for
other deals to get done because the price would only go up. But I didn't care and I wanted to secure
myself as a cowboy long term. This was before any of the other past rushers deals got done that
off season. I knew I would be leaving money on the table, but again, I was okay with that. Again,
radio silence as far as my extension. In March, I met with Mr. Jones to talk about leadership.
Somehow, the conversation turned into him talking contract with me. Yes, I engaged in a back-and-forth
in regards to what I wanted from my contract, but at no point, did I believe this was supposed
to be a formal negotiation and I informed Mr. Jones afterward my agent would reach out,
thinking this would get things done. But when my agent reached out and spoke to Adam
Pacifica, he was told the deal was pretty much already done. My agent, of course, told him that
that wasn't the case and also reached out to Stephen Jones. Again, the team decided to go silent.
At that point, we decided we would allow the team to reach out to us whenever they decided they
wanted to talk, yet still not a call, email or text to my agent about starting a negotiation.
Up to today, the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract.
Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years or anything else.
Still, I stayed quiet, but again, after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives,
I've made a tough decision. I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally and of statement.
All right, that's a strong stand being taken.
And his words, his point of view, and it should be taken that way. But it should be respected
because he laid it out there and he said some tough stuff and there's a lot of stuff that,
you know, you look at it from 35,000 feet and you think, well, you can't come back from that.
But we see people in athletics pro athletes come back from this all the time.
Oh, and we've seen guys come back from a whole lot worse than this.
But, well, there's some cuts in their runs.
I mean, there's some, there's some, there's some, there's some strong stuff in there.
But, but again, this, I mean, it could be that this is just nothing but posturing on, on, on both sides.
And here's another thing. This has been a very, very docile,
storyless training camp.
And the Cowboys generally don't mind if shit gets stirred up in training camp.
But what are the stories been in training camp so far?
Fights.
Oh, a couple of fights, but, you know, a couple of fights, but they go, they're going to wear other than that,
the story has been shot.
It can't be just this.
It's all about him.
It can't be dismissed because once again, that plays into what I said about Jerry,
you know, building this brand, he's got to keep the eye on the Cowboys.
But I know, I know, the eyes are on the Cowboys now.
Believe me, and for a generational player demanding a trade and wanting out of here,
and sounding like he really wants to go.
Well, for that reason, I kind of think this might be staged by all parties.
This might be just nothing but acting on all fronts with the guarantee that
with the time comes, we're going to get this done.
But in the meanwhile, if this can create a little buzz about training camp,
then let's, let's ride that out for a few days.
And we've got to be signed before the season starts.
If Jerry can't make that commitment to do that, he better trade him right now.
Oh, I, I, I guarantee this is much ado about nothing.
He will be signed.
He's got the Cowboys control this guy for this year.
Then they've got two tags left on him.
And they can control his life for the next three years
and not make him very happy.
And he's going to see a lot of other guys get big deals.
The Cowboys can do that.
And he knows it.
And he doesn't want to get caught up in that.
And I don't blame him either.
He shouldn't want to get caught up in that.
Man, I hate to say this because normally I can see his side of the owner,
but I can't, I can't side one bit with Jerry Jones on this.
He's waited too long, you know, and nobody thought, you know,
past wrestlers were going to get to 40 million.
They got to 40 million with Miles Garrett.
And they said, wow, boy, this must be the seal.
And no, TJ White got him 41.
You know where the bidding for my comparison starts?
42, yeah.
And if he doesn't get it signed, it's going to be 45.
And I can see, you know, if one thing I can see Jerry's side,
how can you commit that much money into a quarterback, a wide receiver,
and a defensive end?
But that's the way the games play.
And you got to figure out the math.
Yeah, it's a way the games played.
And the Cowboys like it that way because that money is being committed to stars.
The guys who make big plays, guys who get the fans riled up.
Guys who the camera is always on.
And that's the way the Cowboys roll.
That's the way Jerry rolls.
That's what he wants.
Well, then why's he not doing it now?
Or, but, but, but you're under the little rise that you think he is.
You think it's just a game and it all get done as always.
Yeah, yeah.
That's what I think is going to happen.
And it wouldn't surprise me if, if underneath all this, it's all being played out.
It's all being scripted.
Somebody's on the phone with the agent and telling them, okay,
here's what we're going to say or is what we're going to do.
This is what we need from you.
And we'll only last a few days and then we'll get it done.
He'll get his money and we play on.
That's what I think is really in play here.
And you know what?
I mean, the smart money is bad on that.
But there's something about this that just bugs me.
Yeah, I don't know if it's, if he might be,
my comparison might be that one person on this planet that just gets under Jerry's skin.
Because they've never really seemed to get along.
I mean, think about it.
I mean, he's never had a Michael Irving relationship with him.
Or, or, or, you know, a Tony Romo.
And I'm not saying he needs to be buddy buddy with these guys.
But you know how Jerry was with his star players.
He's never been that way with Micah.
You know, as far as we know, he hasn't.
But I don't know if Micah is that kind of guy really.
I don't know. I mean, he's not like Michael Irving.
He's not like Tony Romo.
He's not a real front and center.
Hey, look at me guy.
Micah Parsons just goes out there and plays real hard and plays real well.
And does his job and does it real well?
And he really doesn't do a whole lot to call attention to himself beyond that.
You know, those other guys did.
Those other guys played number one, far more glamorous positions.
Because they were on the offensive side of the ball.
And they were, you know, far more visible, far more in the in the limelight
than Micah Parsons is.
Yeah, it might have been two bad examples.
But it's just there's just something there.
I don't know what it is.
I mean, it's kind of like, you know, Jerry, a week ago,
said Micah Parsons is the most talented player the Cowboys have ever had.
Really?
Well, I don't want that guy under contract immediately before something happened.
I think I would too.
And then the next day, you've got Frado, you know,
said, well, Micah's got a want to get paid.
What the heck does that mean?
That means he's got to play ball.
That means that means this is all going to be done on their terms and their way.
That's what that means.
And like I said, with this year under contract and then the tag for the next two years,
they can do it and they can make his, you know, life, you know, as miserable as they can,
which I don't know why I didn't want to do that.
I want this guy happy.
And yeah, I want him happy.
I would want him happy too.
You know, you screw around backup guards and safeties.
You don't screw around generational past rushers.
No, no, you don't.
And that's why this is all so baffling because it seems like something that
is a no brain or something that could be easily done.
But for whatever reason is not getting done.
And I think that for whatever reason is the fact that that they want to milk it.
There's some juice here.
And they want to get the juice out of it before they get it done.
Because a few things in this world are are so boring as a contract getting signed and done.
Because what happens then?
You know, I get that worth thinking.
But you know, once again, why does Jerry want to put the fans through that?
Because fans don't enjoy this.
I mean, there may be some out there that you know, fans don't enjoy it.
But you know what fans do?
They pay attention.
They pay attention.
They talk about it.
They read about it.
They declare emergency OGs.
Yes, that's right.
And emergency sessions of the OG.
Where's guilty is anybody?
Yeah, we are.
But it's good, you know, it's good to have something to talk about.
You know, yeah, I agree.
I agree.
Anything you want to talk about?
I don't know.
I just want to think I think I know where this is all going to end up.
And and make no mistake, this is this is some really big talk.
Because usually if something like this is going on,
you don't see guys leave training camp.
No, I mean, usually if they're in training camp,
they're in training camp and they're there to get ready for the season.
And if there's a contract thing going on, well, that gets done.
But that doesn't mean that they're not there for it.
This is different.
This is a little bit different.
And this might be a little bit different guy who
may not be quite so willing to tow the company line
that's been established and play this game the way it's always been played over the years.
So I guess that's that's that's what's going to be interesting to watch
to see if Mike Parsons is willing to walk it like he talks it.
I guess, but you know, I've never grown a company from 140 million dollars into 20 billion.
So, you know, maybe Jerry knows what's how to do this and you know, how to create drama
and drag it out.
I just think that's unfair to the fans, you know, he did it once.
Okay, then he did it to CD last year or the year before.
And then, you know, everybody did it.
It just gets old.
And I just don't want it here's the thing Greg out.
Here's the thing.
The fans seem to love it.
It may be unfair to the fans.
It may be.
Did everybody hates it?
It may be borderline cruel to the fans, but you know, once it gets done, it's all forgotten.
And they're really excited then.
They'll be twice as excited.
If there's a little bit of drama around this and it plays out a little bit longer,
when it gets done, they'll be twice as excited then as they were, as they would have been,
if it would have gotten done, you know, like now or tomorrow or something.
You know how predictable this is?
When they get this deal done, when they get this deal done,
you and I should come on and do an emergency OG before the press conference
and predict everything that they're going to say and do.
And we will be 85% correct.
Yeah.
Yeah, we've got about a, about a cool 850 on that.
I can't get up because we've seen it before.
Yeah.
I mean, everybody has seen, everybody has seen this play out before and exactly this way.
This is knocking you.
I mentioned Michael Irving a minute ago.
We saw it with him.
Remember him walking out of Valley Ranch with that smile on his face after he got that three million a year?
Yeah.
Yeah, I do.
I do.
Do you remember what he made Emmett sit out for two games?
Yeah.
So, I mean, I guess there's precedence there, but this just seems different.
I could be wrong, but it just seems different.
It does seem a little bit different, the script's a little bit different.
You know, it usually doesn't involve somebody walking away, although it did with him and when he
sat out two games, but you know, it doesn't involve somebody walking out from training camp.
Just taking his toys and going home and saying, look, when you're ready to give me what I want,
I'll be then call me.
You ever remember a cowboy walking out of camp?
I don't.
And I don't look I don't.
So, yeah, this is a little bit different, but in another sense, in the larger sense,
it's just all stuff we've seen before and it will end the same way.
This will get done.
He will be back in camp or maybe he won't be back in camp, but he'll be ready for the first week.
He will be ready for week one.
You know, because we're going to find out about Mike Parsons is one of those, you know,
football events.
He has to have football.
He has to have it.
He can't stay away from it.
That's why he showed up for camp, I think.
This could have been done before camp.
Yeah, I think it could have been number four camp.
I think he wanted to go to camp and thought he could get something done.
He can't stay away from football.
He's a football guy.
So, we'll see how that affects.
Maybe Jerry knows that psychological about him.
I don't know.
It's just another reason to like the guy.
The fact that he is a football guy.
Well, we'll keep tabs on it and see where this goes, although I think we all know
where it's going to go, where it's going to end up, how it's going to end up.
What we don't know is the how and the win,
but they will get to, they will get to that point.
We don't know how they'll get there.
We don't know when they'll get there, but they will get there.
You got anything further?
I don't, Brian.
I think we covered everything.
All right.
That is the, you know, they have traded Luke already this year.
And now, you know, Mike, I want to trade.
I want the Gromb and
Evolody to head on up to Montague County and hide out for a while.
I don't want that at all.
I want the Gromb and Evolody right where they are.
I don't want them traded.
I know that.
No, I don't want to trade it either.
Although Evolody is a free agent after this year, so
signing right now, before the game tonight, signing right now, because
and I love the Gromb, but Evolody is just a freaking warrior.
He's the best figure in baseball right now.
There's nobody better than him.
I love that guy.
Yep.
Yep.
I agree.
I agree.
All right.
That is the OG.
Thank you very much for watching.
Thank you very much for checking out all the stuff we do here at your dark companion.
And all across the stolen water media platforms.
I'm Mike Reiner.
Bye.
